Opis:
„The network Tribes” – Internet as a social and intercultural mediumThe Internet communication, including so-called cross-cultural communication, is undoubtedly technologically determined, but also shaped by the “premodern” social relations which were characterized by the dominance of individualism, referring to a sense of collective responsibility not to traditional reference groups (such as the state, the nation, the family and the Church), but to other, more precursory units of an unspecified nature (so-called “new tribes”, human communities of informal nature, the existence of which maintains a network of emotional dependence, comp. Michel Maffesoli (1988). The Time of the Tribes: The Decline of Individualism in Mass Society). However, it remains just as diverse as “offline” communication: it depends primarily on the social, cultural and psychological circumstances of its participants. The contemporary Internet promotes the technological development of cross-cultural social relations, allows for the formation of new social ties, but has no significant effect on their shape and their content.

Opis:
This article is an attempt to reinterpret the imagery characteristic of network media based on different forms of wireless connectivity. Images circulating in these media are the effect of an intensive processing of data, and their ecology is different from the traditional forms of audiovisual culture: they are situated much closer to the environment within which they are produced (the examples come from artistic practices such as the art of climate, but they can also include participation mapping), as a result of a series of exchanges between human and non-human actors. Drawing on the theoretical propositions of James Gibson, especially to the theory of affordances considered within the context of his overall proposal related to ecological optics, Nacher suggests a departure from the representational model. Within this proposed approach the described types of images appear to be not individual units of representation, but a form of exchange of energy with the surroundings.

Opis:
The article describes that network mass media which appeared as a new type of discourse in the Russian-speaking sector of the internet - runet — morę than ten years ago are active- ly forming in the socio-cultural space of Russia. It mentions both generał features for the network and traditional mass media and specific ones characteristic only for network edi- tions, conditioned at first by technical possibilities of the internet (hypertextuality, inte- ractivity, multimediability, etc). The major content of the publication is connected with the display of speech epatage as the style dominant of the texts in network mass media. It is shown, for example, that the first phrase of the text (its peculiar headline-“hook”) is devoted arousing maximum inte- rest of the reader, to “hook” him and thus it is epatageous by its naturę, destination. Such a phrase tums out often to be units having both linguistic and cultural meaning, called lo- goepisystems or logoepisystemoids (transformed logoepisystems). The main idea of the article is that the traditional publicistic pathos of mass media has changed on the internet to the tonality of total irony and language gamę, resulting in the fact that the text is perceived as an enigma to be not only read, but rather unriddled.

This paper focuses on the social network sites (SNSs), especially on Facebook, and their role in people’s daily life. It focuses on people who are statistically not at risk of the digital exclusion (young and still educating). Here are presented conclusions of the author's own research focusing on the role of Facebook in daily life of a group of its users. Research was done as an experiment. The purpose of the study was to find out if students, who use Facebook, could stop to do it temporarily.  Facebook is here regarded as a main source of various kinds of information, both private and public. In this article the author tries to prove that Facebook is one of the primary channels of information flow.

Opis:
Political life in western democracies, even beyond the periods of subsequent elections, resembles permanent electoral campaign. All the actions of politicians and public relations of professionals are calculated to maintain supporters, attract hesitant citizens and persuade opponents. There is a common perception of media as a channel serving politicians, supported by spin doctors, to submit messages, aiming at achievement of political success. Analysis of changes in terms of communication and political marketing requires redefinition of classical categories operated by political marketing and communication, namely the notions of sender, message and receiver. While reformulating these categories, it is necessary to also analyze new tools and devices used by domains mentioned above. Presentation and explanation of their new content, definitions and relations between them leads to the conclusions concerning new role of media in the world dominated by high technologies.

Media marketing should not be regarded as a way of reaching out through the media to the client – it is the component of the management and marketing. This media marketing, not marketing products or services by the media. The article pointed out some of the tools, techniques and modern marketing communication channels used by media companies. The purpose of this publication is to analyze the aspect of marketing communication which is organization of „Action plebiscite” in the network. New communication technologies mean that a significant part of human activities are beginning to take on a digital dimension, including religious activities. Instagram is the social medium that changes the approach to virtual communication. The presence of every social group in it creates a challenge for the Catholic Church, for which the main task is evangelization. The analysis of the most popular accounts of Polish priests on Instagram, the only active bishop’s profile, a review of selected profiles of other priests and male religious congregation shows that Instagram is becoming the new pulpit from which the Gospel is proclaimed.

The work explores the portrayal of the sixth president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Russian and Ukrainian media sources during the pre-electoral campaign in 2019. The study used network analysis, n-grams’ generation, and LDA-based topic modeling. The study reveals that Russia’s media focused on Zelensky as a media personality, while Ukrainian sources paid attention to the portrayal of a novel popular politician. The target audience of the candidate’s campaign was the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine. Media in Ukraine’s native language were more inclined to mention elections, the role of the other candidate Petro Poroshenko and the nationalist mood, while defining Zelensky as just an ordinary candidate in an electoral race. The article is based on academic resources concerning the history of the development of political and media contexts in Ukraine, paying particular attention to agenda-setting, framing and priming techniques, and the personality of Volodymyr Zelensky.

This paper is a trial of capturing of a relation between traditional public sphere atrophy and the augmentation of a network public sphere. A thesis is advanced that the traditional public sphere is subject of the atrophy, however, the entire network public sphere is subject of the augmentation process. Such a formulated thesis forces a choice between two following issues. The first of them regards a relation between factors, which stimulate the atrophy and the augmentation. The second issue regards a role played by social media in the network public sphere. Considerations included in the paper are based on the public sphere theory of J. Habermas and on the M. Castells’ network society theory.

In this essay case studies pointing to problems related to the use of AI in shaping the virtual world are discussed. AI algorithms helps to shape and control the conventional web behaviour and speech of today’s media users, mostly teenagers and adults. Considering the development of software, social media may constitute a separate virtual world in the future. AI also shapes the image of this world and human relationships. The essay begins with an analysis of the future of social media against the background of truth; later, case studies show problems caused by AI to media users and the community. The authors attempt to answer questions such as: What kind of attitudes and abilities will be shaped in social media? What network ethics does AI dictate? What kind of attitudes and thinking will be promoted in the social media of the future?

Human rights are “basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled”. Proponents of the concept usually assert that all humans are endowed with certain entitlements merely by reason of being human. Human rights are thus conceived in a universalist and egalitarian fashion. Such entitlements can exist as shared norms of actual human moralities, as justifi ed moral norms or natural rights supported by strong reasons, or as legal rights either at a national level or within international law. However, there is no consensus as to the precise nature of what in particular should or should not be regarded as a human right in any of the preceding senses, and the abstract concept of human rights has been a subject of intense philosophical debate and criticism. As the new millennium emerges, trends in global human rights are changing. Human rights issues are crossing sovereign boundaries and are no longer just issues of the state. As more and more non-governmental organizations are growing, and the Internet expands and facilitates a quicker spread of information, there are more and more people raising concerns about human rights related issues. Some of these come from the increasingly larger and infl uential commercial sector including large, multinational companies, while the others are raised by ordinary people, being parts of different networks. The aim of this article is to examine the way social networks influence and change the methods of raising the awareness concerning human rights on one hand, but, on the other hand, to analyse how new media contribute to deepening global inequalities.

For public relations officers the last years were momentous. Changes in the surrounding life dictated also changes in the public relations (PR) practice. The birth of a so-called network society was signifi cant not only for different information technology and computer-related professions, but also for communication science, including public relations, from a larger perspective. Talking about public relations we are mostly talking about managing communication and about relations born as a result of the managed communication flow. From a historical perspective communication and relations management means quite often a kind of use of power. At this point the existential question today is — how to manage communication and relations in the new situation — in the society which is guided by social networks where power is not always at the “top” of hierarchy anymore, but is “down” in the networks. Who has power, and who and how will control communication processes in the society of “mass self-communicators” (Castells, 2007), which is designed and created by authors who are writing and expressing their ideas through social media, using their right of speech more than ever and which is no longer easily controlled and managed by others — authorities, press officers, public relations managers, censors, etc.

The paper offers a look at Facebook social service from the point of view of information management in an information society. The article presents a description and comparison of two sets of focus group research. The study was carried out among students in an academic center in a small city (population of 120 thousand), and in an academic center in a big city (population exceeding 750 thousand). The research was aimed at exploring issues related to using Facebook, in particular including the issue of motives related to creating a profile on the service and using it in everyday life. The research has revealed three categories related to Facebook use: a need for security in the scope of access to information, a need to possess a tool facilitating management of information-communication processes, as well as respondent’s dislike for Facebook. In the final part, the paper presents conclusions, but also limitations of the described research.

W 2010 r. użytkownicy serwisu Facebook.com co 20 minut publikowali średnio milion linków, tworząc w ten sposób wielki ekosystem wymiany informacji. System ten spełnia ważną funkcję społeczną: dzięki możliwości wchodzenia użytkowników w interakcje służy budowaniu i potwierdzaniu pozycji społecznej jednostek zaangażowanych w jego funkcjonowanie.
In 2010 Facebook’s users shared, on average, one million links every 20 minutes. This ecosystem of information sharing plays an important social role: it builds and reaffirms social position of engaged individuals. The aim of this article is to study which factors contribute to the amount of feedback received by a particular user. An analysis of 1063 user profiles who shared the same link with their friends is performed (the link pointed at a hit music video). The study shows that older users, women, users with smaller number of friends, less active ones, the ones with smaller “cultural competencies”, users less prone to add a comment to a link, and – most of all – the ones who have received less feedback in the past are predestined to receive less social response to their actions.

Social media are not only a space for making contacts and strengthening social ties, but also an increasingly important source of information. This fact is very crucial in the context of political communication. On the one hand, social networks have created a new platform of interaction between politicians and citizens,in particular during the electoral campaign, but on the other, due to its structure based on the rapid and direct flow of information, they proved to be an effective tool for spreading false content, so-called fake news and misinformation. This negative trend, most visible during the presidential elections in the United States in 2016, has become an impulse to undertake extensive measures to combat this practice. Among many entities engaging in campaigns against fake news, there were primarily enterprises from the ICT industry, but also governments, media publishers and international organizations. The main aim of the article is to indicate the most important actions taken (by the end of January 2018) in order to fight disinformation on the Internet. The text will also focus on the analysis of this activity in the context of potential danger of increasing control over the flow of information on the Internet and introduction of censorship on a mass scale.
