Opis:
Aim of the study: To evaluate the effects of two different modes of improvement on the level of perceived pain, spinal mobility, lumbar spinal motion control and limitations in activities of daily living in women aged 51–62 with lumbar spine pain. Material and methods: The study included a group of 31 women between the ages of 51 and 62. The subjects were divided into 2 groups. Group I (FK) received physical therapy treatments and general gymnastics, while group II (FS) received physical therapy treatments and exercises using a PBU stabilizer. The project covered a period of 10 treatment days excluding Saturdays and Sundays. Before and immediately after the rehabilitation, tests of flexion and extension control in the L-spine, active knee joint flexion test, Schober test were performed, and the NRS scale was used scale and QBPDS scale. Results: After the applied rehabilitation, a significant reduction in the level of perceived pain and improvement in spinal mobility in the direction of flexion were observed in both groups. In the FS group, there was also a significant improvement in lumbar flexion control and better lumbar spine control during the active knee flexion test. In addition, a reduction in disability as measured by the QBPDS scale was noted. Conclusions: The use of comprehensive rehabilitation brings significant improvements in terms of pain reduction and improvement in lumbar spine mobility in the flexion direction. A two-week exercise program using a stabilizer appears to yield significantly better results in terms of lumbar flexion control as well as better lumbar control during the active flexion test of both knee joints. And this, in turn, may affect the results obtained using the QBPDS scale among FS subjects.

Disorders related to labyrinth irritation (kinetosis) constitute a significant problem in sea travel, especially in sea service. A team of military researchers conducted research on a very large group (over 200 people) regarding the possibility of preventing seasickness through physical training. An original set of exercises was developed and performed by the study group. Then, the sensitivity of the test group and the control group to rocking was checked in laboratory and real conditions (sea cruise). The method has been shown to be over 50% effective in preventing and alleviating the symptoms of seasickness. The use of selected physical exercises may be an effective training against the risk of kinetosis.

Opis:
The word dysphagia has its origins in the Greek language. In Greek, the prefix dys- implies difficulty, and –phagia applies to eating, swallowing. Impairment in swallowing can affect both adults and children. The therapy of this disorder is conducted by neuro speech therapists, mainly. The therapist chooses particular treatment methods for particular patients according to the causes and symptoms that are observed in the patient. Therapists can choose from two types of exercises: therapeutic and compensatory ones. The aim of therapeutic exercises is to improve the effectiveness of swallowing by modifying the mechanism of swallowing. Neuro speech therapist can teach special manoeuvres to the patient or perform the exercises that stimulate the swallowing reflex with the patient. Direct exercises comprise two categories: indirect and direct exercises. Indirect exercises are also known as the exercises that strengthen the muscles that take part in the act of swallowing. Neither food, nor drinks are used when performing this kind of exercises. Direct exercises, i.e. exercises in which food and drinks are used, affect the strength of the muscles of the oral cavity and the pharynx. The main aim of this method is to improve the act of swallowing. Compensatory exercises form the second type of exercises. They are aimed to teach the patient to compensate for the deficits that accompany dysphagia. They do not lead to a change in the act of swallowing. Neuro speech therapist gives some hints to the patients and also teaches them some special manoeuvres that utilise, i.e. a change in the position of the head while swallowing. The principle of this method is to reduce the risk of aspiration. The therapy of children with swallowing disorders is a great challenge for neuro speech therapists. The therapist trains the basic movements of the tongue and the position of the organs within the oral cavity that take part in swallowing. Afterwards, he teaches the patient how to make use of these skills while swallowing saliva, eating or drinking. The effectiveness of dysphagia therapy relies on good cooperation between the therapist and the patient, as well as the patient’s autonomy and the amount of exercise performed by the patient between therapy sessions.

Opis:
Objective: to evaluate the efficacy of a 32-week school physical education programme on low-back pain in elementary and secondary schoolchildren. Material and methods: Forty-one elementary school children (fifth-grade, mean age of 10.27 ± 0.31 years) and 43 secondary school adolescents (twograde, mean age of 13.46 ± 0.68 years) were assigned to the control (n = 40) or intervention group (n = 44). The intervention subjects were involved in an organised physical education programme including hamstrings stretching, endurance strength of the abdominal and lumbar muscles, and pelvic tilt during the two-weekly school physical education classes over 32 weeks. The control group was not subjected to the organized programme. Low back pain was registered and pain intensity was recorded using the Visual Analogue Scale. Results: The experimental group showed a statistically significant decrease of low back pain frequency while the control group evidenced an increase. For pain intensity no significant differences were found. Conclusion: The children and adolescents who were subjected to the school physical education programme showed a reduction of low back pain frequency, while a tendency toward the rising frequency of low back pain was detected for the control subjects.

The aim of the research was to find the changes of exercises in the organism of the men specialized in middle distance running. Physical working capacity and simultaneous registration of the functions of vegetative systems of organism were investigated. As well biochemical tests (determination of the content of lactate of red cells, haemoglobin, glucose in blood) were done. 10 men (two Masters of Sport, two First - Class Sportsmen and six Second - Class Sportsmen ) aged 17 - 24 specialized in the middle distance ru nning took part in the experiment. The sportsmen's level of health was within the physiological standard. The examination of the men's adaptive body responses to the offered burdens made by us indicates that their functional body capacity increases in the first, second, third and fifth microcycles and decreases in the fourth one. It can be connected with the decrease of haemoglobin content in the blood, especially in the Masters' of Sport blood and in the blood of First - Class Sportsmen , it leads to the decr ease of their working capacity, respectively.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to draw the teacher’s attention to the importance of the text-based, non-routine problem-solving tasks presented in some early-school mathematics textbooks. Non-routine math text exercises are deliberately of the wrong-wording and misleading-task type. The purpose of this is to engage and develop the student’s logical thinking and also problem solving skills, as they will have to analyze every aspect of its structure and apply the right correction in order to solve it. Unfortunately, today not every textbook offers an insight into or examples of non-routine tasks. Sadly, in some textbooks series these non-routine math text exercises are completely absent, meaning that very often only a limited number of students will ever come across them during their education years.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of training on body surface temperature over the joints in racehorses, measured by infrared thermography. The study involved monitoring of 14 Thoroughbred racehorses in 6 imaging sessions over a period of 3 months. Temperature measurements of the forelimb and hindlimb joints were made before and just after training. Joint temperature of limbs increased significantly after training. Environmental temperature had a statistically significant influence on surface temperature over the joints. The lowest surface temperatures were recorded over the metacarpophalangeal and metatarsophalangeal joint and the highest temperatures in the shoulder, elbow, hip and stifle joint. The metacarpophalangeal and metatarsophalangeal joints warmed the least during training, but were influenced the most by differences in environmental temperature. The surface temperature difference before and after training is an important indicator of the thermoregulatory response to exercise in racing horses. Understanding surface temperature changes in response to regular training is necessary for future studies on diagnosing injuries of joints.
