Opis:
The preparation of a proper zoning plan or landscape-ecological plan requires taking into account recognition of the natural values of an area covered by the plan and evaluating its abiotic and biotic diversities. The aim of the paper is to present the new approach to the procedure of geodiversity and biodiversity assessment. This procedure is used to characterise abiotic and biotic heterogeneity of the postglacial landscape modified by a man, tested on Dębnica River catchment (Western Pomerania, Poland). This catchment is a representative example illustrating the landscape of Central European Plain. The analytical algorithm of the geodiversity assessment is based on appropriate selection of the evaluation criteria: lithological, relative heights, landform fragmentation, hydrographical elements and mesoclimatic conditions. Biodiversity was assessed on the basis of real vegetation, potential natural vegetation and the degree of anthropisation of the natural vegetation with respect to syngenesis of plant associations. Seven factor maps were obtained: five for the diversity of abiotic elements, and two for the diversity of biotic elements, which became the basis for the creation of total geodiversity and biodiversity maps. Maps produced in accordance with given methodology may find a wide range of applications.

Opis:
Understanding the relationship between tree species diversity and above-ground carbon (AGC) storage in tropical forests is essential for a sustainable flow of ecosystem goods and services. Although tropical forests of Vietnam are of particular interest due to their high biodiversity and carbon density, few studies have evaluated the relative importance of species composition, tree species diversity and forest structure on AGC storage by forest vegetation type. In this study, we tested for the influence of taxonomic diversity, forest structure and species composition on AGC storage in evergreen broad-leaved and deciduous forests of Southeast Vietnam. Data was collected within 137 rectangular plots (25 m × 20 m), randomly selected across a deciduous forest (DF) and four evergreen broad-leaved forest (EB) categories, with different standing volumes levels: very poor (EBG), poor (EBP), medium (EBM) and rich (EBR). In total, we identified 3687 individuals from 110 tree species belonging to 46 families in 6.85 hectares of sampled area. AGC storage significantly differed among forest categories, ranging from 14.81 Mg ha−1 in EBG to 146.74 Mg ha−1 in EBR. There was higher AGC in the medium diameter class (20-40 cm), except for EBR where there was higher AGC within individuals of 40-60 cm in diameter. Taxonomic diversity was weakly correlated with AGC while stand structure (stem density and maximum diameter) were strongly correlated. Our results suggest that maintaining the abundance distributions of remnant tree species, particularly that of large trees, is one important method to enhance AGC storage in the tropical ecosytems of southern Vietnam.

Opis:
Populus nigra L. is one of the rarest and most endangered tree species in Western and Central Europe. Its genetic diversity is of great importance in enabling a native riparian population to survive and reproduce under changing environmental conditions. The aim of this research was assessment of P. nigra viability in one of the best preserved riparian ecosystems in Europe, Special Nature Reserve “Gornje Podunavlje” (Upper Danube), Serbia. Additionally, the analysis of the genetic diversity was made to support the effective conservation in the future. During our study, we have mapped 931 P. nigra trees, which were used for the assessment of present native population. Furthermore, we used 14 microsatellite markers to assess the genetic structure of this this population. Viability assessment showed considerable occurrence of P. nigra in the research area, even though the results show fragmentation. P. nigra occurs mostly individually or in small groups of trees, and has a non-sustainable age structure due to insufficient or lacking regeneration. Despite the limited size of the studied population, the apparent overall genetic diversity was high (He = 0.759) and comparable to other known native populations of P. nigra along the Danube basin. However, the results also confirmed existence of recent bottleneck effect. Significantly positive and quite high Fis value (0.147) was noted, which may be ascribed to the “Wahlund effect” because of the population substructure that was revealed by the STRUCTURE analysis (K=2). Although results say that coverage of native stands is not so promising, most of selected trees within our research assessed showed good viability with potential for natural reproduction However, the problem is that suitable areas for natural seedling establishment are scarce and with that gene flow is probably limited. The fragmentation of the area must be reduced and isolated stands must be interlinked as there is need to create larger non-fragmented areas.

Opis:
This paper presents an analysis of changes in functional diversity of weeds in spring barley grown in the period 1990- 2004 in crop rotation after potato with a 25% share of this cereal (potato – spring barley – field pea – winter triticale) as well as in crop rotation with its 75% share (potato – spring barley – spring barley – spring barley) in which barley was grown once and twice after the same barley crop. No weed control was used in the present experiment. Every year in the spring (at full emergence of barley) and before harvest, the species composition and numbers of individual weed species were determined, as well as their weed biomass before harvest. On this basis, the selected functional diversity indices were calculated. Multidimensional techniques were used for dividing weeds into functional groups and for the determination of some of the indices. Potato/barley crop rotation with a 25% share of barley and growing spring barley once and twice after the same barley crop did not differentiate weed functional biodiversity. The weed functional diversity indices showed different variations over time. Higher variation was usually observed for the indices calculated for the summer communities compared to the spring ones. The strength and significance of the positive correlation between weed functional diversity and precipitation in the growing season and of the negative correlation with mean temperature for the period from April to August were dependent on the measure of diversity. The functional diversity indices showed high convergence. The FD and FAD indices proved to be interchangeable.

Opis:
The subject of the study was a population of Sorbus torminalis resulting from spontaneous regeneration from seeds in northern Poland at the north-eastern limit of the species distribution. The population, occupying a fenced plot of 1.72 ha in the Forest District of Jamy, amounted to 579 individuals of variable age classes up to about 19 years old. Six polymorphic gene loci: MDH-B, ME-A, 6PGD-B, ADH-B, PGM-A, PGM-B were studied in 532 individuals recruited post-fencing and 21 potentially parental, adult trees. The analysis showed similarly high levels of genetic diversity within both subsets of individuals but there was also a noticeable change in genetic structure between them. Detailed genetic analysis of the post-fencing recruits revealed lack of significant differences between different age groups based on DBH within the fenced plot.

Insects are depends upon autotrophs and they attract by the flowers colour and shape as pollinator. This is a mutual relationship between flowers and insects. The present study aims to determine flower visiting insect diversity as pollinators in two parks as biomonitoring of automobile air pollution exposure, landscape changes and/or human interactions. The study areas were selected as per heavily-populated neighborhoods, nearby office buildings, nearby roads and continuous vehicular movements, human interactions as visitors, where fences and high levels of human disturbance are common. The study was carried out at 2 sampling stations viz (i) Elliot park and (ii) Agri-Horticulture Society. The flower species were selected viz. Helianthus annuus, Petunia sp. and Buganvilia spectabilis planting above mentioned areas because these species are more common among other species. In each flower, diversity of visiting insects were studied by qualitative and quantitative assessment. Indices were Species richness, Index of Dominance, Relative abundance, Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index and Evenness Index for insects for all selected sites were calculated using the statistical formulae. The present results clearly indicate that the flower visiting insects are very less in numbers on three flowering species and index values were decreased. This study is a preliminary assessment of flower visiting insects diversity but further researches are needed in relation to pollination efficiencies of flower visiting insects and biochemical and genetic damage study of flowers as well as air pollution load by using instruments. It was concluded that three flowering species viz. sunflower, petunia and bougainvillea are very common both the parks but insect visitors are common but present less in number, which may be due to the vehicular pollution and/or human interference and/or landscape changes due to nearby neighborhood blocks, office and residential buildings etc.

This study is a preliminary assessment of bird diversity but further researches are needed in relation to biochemical and genetic damage study as well as air pollution load by using instruments. In the present study it was concluded that the less numbers of birds and their different diversity indices were found a decreasing trends, though there no attempt has been made on physico-chemical properties of present air pollutants. The less number of varieties of bird species are as tolerant bioindicators, which may be due to the vehicular pollution and/or human interference and/or landscape changes due to nearby neighborhood blocks, office and residential buildings, continuous movement of vehicles etc.

Opis:
This thesis presents the research results on fruit tree alleys located in the area of Stare Czarnowo commune and their influence on the regional landscape diversity. Fruit tree alleys serve as a perfect landscape arranging component which orders the space and performs many natural functions. After the II World War trees were sparsely planted along the road sides and for over 60 years alleys they created have been thoughtlessly devastated. Few of them remained until today, mainly in the West Pomeranian district. In the territory of Stare Czarnowo there were 8 fruit alleys of a different habitat to select and take stock of. Among them: woodlots, roadside shrubs and the avenue created in the area of Dendrological Garden in Glinna. Specimen considered for the research had to be at least 30 cm in the trunk circumference. Among 374 of stock taken plants 4 were identified as fruit trees. There were 125 specimen of the size qualifying them to be regarded as the nature monuments. Fruit trees alleys have a huge impact on diversity of natural habitat. Due to its historical grounds they should be more often and widely used in shaping the rural landscape.
Nieliczne z nich utrzymały się do dzisiaj, m.in. w województwie zachodniopomorskim.
