Opis:
This article aims to show the possibility of an academic approach to teaching the Catholic religion at school to the liturgical rites of the Catholic Church from a cultural perspective. Liturgical rites consist of numerous signs and symbols that refer to the human dimension, which seeks what is beautiful, true, and good. At all levels, one of the main objectives of Italian and European schools is to teach, educate, and raise responsible and upright citizens. Therefore, while contributing to the general formation of the human being at school, the teaching of Catholic religion also draws students closer, in cultural terms, to the great code, i.e., the liturgy of the Catholic Church. It is certainly a form of public and social communication. It is education in action. In this sense, for example, it could be a considerable and systematic cultural opportunity for Ukrainian students residing in Poland, a chance to learn the symbolic language of the Catholic liturgy in the perspective of reaching human maturity without fear of proselytism from the Catholic Church. This article in no way intends to diminish the intrinsic value of the liturgy in the life of the Church, understood as a celebration, proclamation, commemoration, promise, and moral call whose purpose is to transform or transfigure the person so that he/she is oriented toward the highest good, i.e., God, and able to live a life of mutual love

Ignacy Dziadek był synem rolnika potrafiącego czytać i pisać, którego wybrano na sołtysa i sędziego ludowego. Ignacy jako samouk posługiwał się językami łacińskim i niemieckim, z którego przetłumaczył i wydał wiele książek religijnych, głównie modlitewników. Kapłanami zostali jego dwaj synowie i wnuk – Albert Willimsky, którego uznano męczennikiem II wojny światowej. Z jego bogatej biblioteki korzystali młodzimieszkańcy Mionowa, a szczególnie Johannes Chrząszcz, późniejszy kapłan i historyk Śląska. Ignacy Dziadek był również posłem do Pruskiego Zgromadzenia Narodowego. W artykule scharakteryzowano jego spuściznę literacką, a także przedstawiono jego osobę w oparciu o zachowane rodzinne przekazy.
Ignacy Dziadek was a son of a farmer who could read and write and who was appointed as village leader and folk judge. Being self-taught, Ignacy spoke Latin and German, from which he translated and published many religious books, mainly confessionals. Two of his sons became priests, as well as his grandson Albert Willimsky, who was considered a martyr of World War II. People who used his extensive book collection were young residents of Mionow, in particular Johannes Chrząszcz, who was later to become a priest and historian of Silesia. Ignacy Dziadek was a member of parliament for the National Assembly of Prussia. The article describes his literary legacy and presents him based on surviving family accounts.

The focus of this paper is the perceived relation of language (Polish) and religion (Catholicism) to the Polish identity and whether and how these dimensions of identity are employed in interpreting processes of social integration and mobility in Lithuanian society by research participants at schools where Polish is the language of instruction. This paper argues that the native language (Polish) is seen as an important dimension of ethnic (Polish) identity while both majority (Lithuanian) and minority languages are seen as helpful instruments in the process of social inclusion and social mobility since they are perceived as dependent on the social context. Polish-language schools reaffirm the interrelation of the Catholic religion and the Polish identity in discursive and practical ways (via various cultural means). Nevertheless, religion, an essential dimension of Polish identity, does not come to the forefront when discussing social integration or mobility.

Contemporary culture – as already noted – is becoming more and more visual. Contemporary catechesis, referring to its rich, centuries-long experience, should also use different types of images. The first part of this article presents the visual principle as one of basic educating principles, and the second part presents the correlation between the teaching of Catholic religion, and art education in Polish schools. One specific example of using religious painting are in textbooks.Masterpieces of painting, created during centuries and expressing particular desires of their creators, still remain an important inspiration, among others, to the religious search. Faith, though strongly anchored in words, needs representations, specific references, which allow receiving, understanding, and experiencing it. Paintings give this possibility, and even – taking into consideration the contemporary civilization – impose the necessity to use them, in order to effectively reach the contemporary receiver.Using images in education is not only the achievement of specific objectives in catechesis, but also gives an opportunity to creatively engage students and shape their aesthetic sensibility. Working with the image creates the possibility of discovering the beauty, to see it in reality and “keeping the heart”, that is the enrichment of the beauty of one’s humanity.

Opis:
Catholic religion presents an ambivalent attitude towards the body: it adores the tormented and resurrected body of Christ, but rejects human physicality, regarding it as a cause and consequence of sin. Such conviction led to imposing numerous restrictions  on almost  all life spheres of priests, nuns and monks. They cannot  get around, get dressed  or decide about  their activities and relationships freely. They subject  their bodies  to mortification, vowing  celibacy and sexual abstinence. However, a desire to marginalise the physical sphere of human life, which was rooted in the Church, has produced the opposite result. As a consequence, the body became the centre of interest not only for clergymen and believers, but also writers, poets and artists from different countries and periods. The paper focuses on the literature of Spanish‑speaking countries, searching for references to the methods of bodily discipline among clergymen and consecrated people. The abundance and variety of presented examples point to the fact that this topic is worth of interest and a deeper analysis.

In this article, I present the results of my sociological research on the perception and assessment of the role of religion by Polish youth in the sense of life and people’s happiness. I realized out my own research in 2008 among 456 school youth in Kalisz and in 2011 among 426 students of the College of Communications and Management in Poznan. The results of my research are confronted here with the results of research of other sociologists with they realized (implemented) in the past (XX) century among high school youth and students on the subject of existential role. A comparative analysis of the results of both research showed significant changes in the assessment of today’s (contemporary) Polish youth, which the of religion in giving meaning to life and a sense of happiness for people. Today’s youth (from the 21st century) in Poland is more critical of the existential role of religion and more often questions the necessity of this role in people’s lives than the youth of the past century. At the same time, the indicator of today’s youth has decreased, which accepts fully or conditionally (partially) the role of religion in life and in the feeling of happiness by people. Indicator of positive of the existential role of religion among Polish youth were much greater in the past century.

CEL NAUKOWY: Artykuł przedstawia wyrok Trybunału Sprawiedliwości Unii Europejskiej ze stycznia 2022 roku w sprawie dotyczącej nauczycieli religii we Włoszech. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Celem artykułu jest zasada zatrudniania nauczycieli religii tylko na podstawie długotrwałych, terminowych umów o pracę, zawieranych wyłącznie na czas określony. Główną metodą badawczą wykorzystaną w artykule jest metoda dogmatyczna. Autor analizuje stanowiska stron sporu: nauczycieli religii, centralnych władz szkolnych we Włoszech zatrudniających nauczycieli religii, diariusza diecezji oraz stanowisko sądu pracy w Neapolu, występującego w sprawie toczącej się przed Trybunałem Sprawiedliwości UE. W szerokim zakresie wykorzystuje metodę analizy orzecznictwa. PROCES WYWODU: Artykuł podzielony został na pięć części, których celem jest przybliżenie czytelnikowi omawianej problematyki poprzedzonej wprowadzeniem oraz merytoryczne rozważania zakończone uwagami umożliwiającymi rozstrzygnięcie sporu prawnego. WYNIKI ANLIZY NAUKOWEJ: Republika Włoska nie wprowadziła środków ograniczających maksymalny okres zatrudnienia nauczycieli religii lub liczby odnowień terminowych umów o pracę w rozumieniu przepisów unijnego prawa pracy. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Przepisy prawa UE sprzeciwiają się uregulowaniu krajowemu państwa członkowskiego UE, wykluczającemu nauczycieli religii w szkołach publicznych do ubiegania się o tę pracę w ramach umów na czas nieokreślony. Posiadanie dokumentu poświadczającego zdolność nauczania religii nie stanowi obiektywnego powodu do nauczania religii wyłącznie na podstawie umów na czas określony. Żadne środki prawne stosowane w systemach krajowego prawa pracy nie powinny naruszać zasady równego traktowania nauczycieli religii, nauczających tego przedmiotu w państwach członkowskich UE.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The article presents the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union of January 2022 in a case concerning religious teachers in Italy. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM and METHODS: The aim of the article is to employ a religion teacher only on the basis of long-term, fixed-term employment contracts, concluded only for a specified period. The main research method used in the article is the dogmatic method. The author analyzes the positions of the parties to the dispute: religious teachers, central public authorities in Italy employing religious teachers, diocesan diocese and the position of the labor court in Naples in the case pending before the Court of Justice of the EU. The method of jurisprudence analysis is widely used. THE PROCESS of ARGUMENTATION: The article has been divided into five parts, the purpose of which is to familiarize the reader with the issues discussed, preceded by the introduction, as well as substantive considerations concluded with comments enabling the resolution of a legal dispute. RESEARCH RESULTS: The Italian Republic has not introduced measures limiting the maximum duration of employment for religious teachers or the number of renewals of fixed-term employment contracts within the meaning of EU labor law. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, and RECOMMENDATIONS: EU law goes against the national regulation of an EU Member State, which excludes teachers of religion in public schools from applying for this job under open-ended contracts. The possession of a document certifying the ability to teach religion is not an objective reason to teach religion solely on the basis of fixed-term contracts. Any legal measures applied in national labor law systems should be without prejudice to the principle of equal treatment of religious teachers teaching this subject in the EU Member States.

Opis:
A striking feature of Muriel Spark’s fiction is its insistence on the reality of the supernatural, which occasionally breaks into the naturalistic level, defying and challenging habitual modes of perception. The fact of Spark being a religious convert is well known, but her faith is manifested in ways different from what is normally assumed to be religious writing. Spark’s novels are never overtly didactic or moralistic; the impact of her faith is manifest in the notion of reality as conveyed by her fiction. Spark’s vision of reality, underlain by her Catholicism, is based on her conviction that empirical reality coexists with the supernatural world; therefore, interactions with the supernatural, however strange they may seem, are presented in her fiction as compellingly plausible. It is argued in the article that Spark’s ontology of fiction is rooted in a tradition going back to Chesterton, who insisted on the paradoxical conjunction of nonsense and faith, both capable of invoking a sense of spiritual wonder at the world we normally take for granted. Memento Mori, Reality and Dreams as well as selected short stories are referenced to illustrate the peculiar combination of the empirical and the supernatural in Spark’s fiction. The article asserts the paradox, central to Spark’s vision of reality, that the supernatural should be accepted as a natural part of profane experience.

The teaching of the Roman Catholic religion at school involves a variety of didactic, educational and evangelizing measures. Among them special care is taken to support students in developing motivation for Christian action. The scope of this catechetical activity has been clearly defined in curriculum documents for religious education, referred to in the core curriculum of catechesis and the religious education syllabus.The paper analyzes the teaching of the Roman Catholic religion at school as a means conducive to motivating young people to Christian action. First, the nature of the teaching of the Roman Catholic religion in middle school and high schools is indicated. In this context, attention is drawn to the core curriculum in the aspect of motivating young people to Christian action. The following factors are presented in a sequence: goals, objectives and content of religious education as well as guidance how to achieve the objectives of the curriculum related to the above-mentioned are of work of the religion teacher. A brief concluding section includes, besides a synthesis of the discussed points, indications concerning empirical research.

W myśl kan. 1366 Kodeksu Prawa Kanonicznego z 1983 roku rodzice katoliccy oraz ci, którzy prawnie ich zastępują, którzy oddają dzieci do chrztu lub na wychowanie w religii niekatolickiej, powinni zostać ukarani cenzurą lub inną sprawiedliwą karą. Taka dyspozycja prawodawcy kodeksowego wynika niewątpliwie z ochrony dobra wiary i prawa dzieci ochrzczonych w Kościele katolickim do wychowania w religii katolickiej. Nakłada również na rodziców (lub prawnych opiekunów) obowiązek zapewnienia swemu potomstwu wychowania zgodnego z obowiązującą nauką Kościoła katolickiego.
Under Can. 1366 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, Catholic parents, or those who take their place, who hand over their children to be baptised or educated in a non Catholic religion are to be punished with a censure or other just penalty. Undoubtedly, the reason for this provision is to protect the good of faith and the right of children who were baptised in the Catholic Church to be raised as Catholics. It also imposes on parents (or legal guardians) the obligation to raise their children in accordance with the Catholic Church teaching.

The article presents the most important values criminally protected in the Catholic Church by CIC/1983 and CCEO/1990. They are: the religion, the unity, the church authorities and the freedom of the Church. About their prime position in the hierarchy of goods legally protected by the provisions of penal canon law testifies that the crimes against them are put in the first and in the second title of CIC/1983, also the threat of severe penal sanctions. These sanctions result from the exceptional social harmfulness of the crimes. In the degree of ailment they are analogical in the canon law of the Latin rite and in the common law of Eastern Catholic Churches.

Opis:
The academic debate on “LGBT Christians” focuses on the issue of conflict between religion and homosexuality and on the ways of solving it. The source of this conflict is usually located within religious traditions which have created and maintained the negative image of homosexuality. In this context, particular believers are presented as individualized actors who activate a huge agency, while harmonizing their religiosity with sexuality. However, the author’s research conducted in Poland, especially among members of Faith and Rainbow, which is a group of “LGBT Christians”, calls for shifting the focus of the analysis from the individual agency into the social structure and locating experiences of the members of this community within various discursive and social interdependencies. The proposed interpretation takes into account the individuals’ entanglement in religious, medical and emancipatory discourses, as well as in the interplay between them. It also highlights the differences in the ways of integrating religion with sexual non-normativity at the personal level, which are conditioned by the individuals’ age and gender, as well as their social and denominational background.

The paper adresses the question of how sex/gender is understood within the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church and to what extend it recognizes the category of gender. The objects of the analysis are the teaching of the Roman Curia as well as the documents of the local Church in Poland and statements of Polish bishops from 2013 - 2014. The results of qualitative research conducted among diocesan priests of the Archdiocese of Krakow in 2007 are treated as complementary data. The Church uses the notion of sex that is naturalistic, essentialist, binary and based on the complementarity of sexes. Although the Church does not reduce the notion of sex to the biological aspects, nevertheless the interpretation of gender as social construction is limited. The category of gender has been frequently criticized as ideological by the local Church in Poland and by the Roman Curia. The ahistorical category of sex, present in the discourse of the Roman Catholic Church and in the perceptions of its representatives - priests, petrifies the present gender contract.
