Opis:
The magnetic and elastic properties of epitaxially grown Mo/Co/Au trilayer systems were investigated by the Brillouin light scattering and a ferromagnetic resonance. Using both experimental methods the perpendicular uniaxial anisotropy and the effective in-plane twofold anisotropy contributions were determined as the function of the cobalt thicknesses. Acoustic phonons analysis shows that the elastic constants are decreased with increasing cobalt layer thicknesses.

Opis:
Ni polycrystalline nanowires with diameters of 50, 80, and 100 nm were electrodeposited in cylindrical pores of track-etched polycarbonate membranes. Their magnetic properties were determined as a function of temperature using ferromagnetic resonance and magnetization measurements. At room temperature, the uniaxial anisotropy is equal to the shape anisotropy whereas an additional contribution is evidenced at low temperature. This additional contribution is attributed to magnetoelastic effects induced in the nanowires due to the different thermal expansion constants of Ni and polycarbonate. The analysis of magnetization processes in Ni nanowire arrays evidenced strong dipolar interactions inside the wires due to the domain structure. The coercive field of the nanowires was shown to be nearly a linear function of the temperature and could be accounted for temperature dependence of the uniaxial anisotropy.

The paper presents a novel method of measurements of tensile stress dependence of the magnetic characteristics of ring-shaped cores made of soft amorphous alloys. In the presented method, the uniform tensile stress was applied perpendicularly to the magnetizing field direction. Magnetoelastic core with closed magnetic circuit was fixed on the non-magnetic backings enabling the conversion of compressive force into tensile stresses as well as it enables the core to be winded by magnetizing and sensing windings. Magnetoelastic characteristics measured under tensile stress, for $Fe_{25}Ni_{55}Si_{10}B_{10}$ alloy annealed in temperature 350°C for 1 h, are presented in this paper. The presented results indicate high tensile stress sensitivity of $Fe_{25}Ni_{55}Si_{10}B_{10}$ alloy. Moreover, together with magnetoelastic characteristics for compressive stresses (presented previously in the literature), the describes results create possibility of further development of models of the magnetoelastic effects in amorphous alloys.

Paper presents the results of investigations of the influence of the tensile stresses on magnetic characteristics of $Fe_{80}B_{11}Si_{9}$ amorphous alloy in as quenched and annealed state. For the tests, a special methodology of application of uniform tensile stresses to the ring shaped sample was developed. Due to special non-magnetic pads, the magnetizing and sensing coils can be wound around the core. Experimental results indicate high stress sensitivity of $Fe_{80}B_{11}Si_{9}$ alloy in both as-quenched and annealed state. Permeability of the core decreases over 64% and 58% for as-quenched and annealed core respectively, especially for lower values of the amplitude of magnetizing field.

Amorphous bilayers consisting of Fe-Si-B and Co-Si-B layers have been prepared by planar flow casting from a single crucible using a double-nozzle technique. Temperature dependencies of magnetization and hysteresis loops have been investigated in a wide temperature range. At room temperature, the effects of interlayer stresses, induced in material due to different thermal expansion coefficients of two mechanically interconnected soft magnetic layers, resulted in rounded hysteresis loops with flattened central part, indicating a dominant role of magnetization rotational processes. With an increase of measurement temperature, the interlayer stresses are relieved and the hysteresis loops became more squared.

In this work the influence of surface roughness on magnetostrictive nano-actuator parameters has been analyzed theoretically. A mechanical and magnetoelastic behavior of investigated cantilever bimorphic system has been described in the frame of the simple analytical model. Realistic material parameters have been incorporated into the model for high-magnetostrictive galfenol (Fe-Ga) thin films on silicon substrate. It has been shown that for 5 nm thick galfenol film a flat surface magnetostrictive effects modify the cantilever deflection and force only by 3%, whereas in the case of rough surface this influence increases to about 15%, when dimensions of roughness steps are comparable to the distances between them.

We investigated the effect of large compressive stress on magnetic shape memory effect in modulated 10M martensite of Ni-Mn-Ga Heusler alloy. The single crystalline sample deformed approximately elastically up to highest load 540 MPa. Structural and microstructural changes of a single crystal were analysed by X-ray diffraction 2D scan mapping in 2θ and ω. Although the crystal structure, lattice cell parameters, and twinned microstructure (a/b and modulation twinning) exhibited only small changes after the loading, the volume of the sample undergoing the magnetically induced reorientation decreased sharply while magnetic field necessary for the reorientation gradually increased. The extrapolation suggested that no magnetically induced reorientation might occur after compression of about 1 GPa.

We present the theoretical analysis of a possibility of the magnetic anisotropy control using various components of the strain tensor in III-V magnetic semiconductor. We used the Kane model of the valence bands for the numerical simulations of the influence of strain on the Mn doped GaAs valence band structure. Calculating numerically the energy structure of deformed GaMnAs magnetic semiconductor, we also found the total energy of electron system as a function of orientation of the average magnetization vector. Our calculations show how the direction of the magnetization easy axis can be effectively rotated by using different types of deformation.

Opis:
Information about magnetoelastic properties of newly developed amorphous magnetic alloys is very important from practical point of view, especially in the case of high permeability materials such as the Fe₆₁Co₁₉Si₅B₁₅ amorphous alloy. In the case of such materials, effect connected with the influence of external stresses on the magnetic properties of the alloy should be tested. This paper presents experimental results of the magnetoelastic properties investigation of the Fe₆₁Co₁₉Si₅B₁₅ amorphous alloy, annealed without magnetic field as well as in the magnetic field. Such thermo-magnetic treatment generated anisotropy has significant influence on the total free energy of magnetic material. In the magnetoelastic investigation, the compressive stress was applied to the ring shaped core, perpendicularly to the magnetizing field direction. Due to the fact, that cores with closed magnetic circuits were used, demagnetization did not change the balance of total free energy in the material.

The paper presents results of research on the effects of mechanical stresses on the magnetostrictive properties of 13CrMo4-5 steel. Measurements of stress dependence of magnetostriction fill the gap in the state of the art enabling description of relationships between stresses applied to the samples and its magnetoelastic and magnetostrictive properties. Performed studies represent the starting point for development of unified model of both Villari (magnetoelastic) and Joule (magnetostrictive) effects under stresses in steels. The formulated model will be the basis for the development of generalized methods of interpreting the results of non-destructive testing of the state of the internal stresses in steels based on these phenomena.

The following paper presents original results of study on the magnetoelastic properties of Ni-Zn (nickel-zinc) ferrite material under low magnetizing fields, corresponding to the so-called Rayleigh region. The investigated $Ni_{0.36}Zn_{0.64}Fe_2O_4$ material was formed into frame-shape sample allowing to obtain uniform stress distribution. Special digitally controlled measurement system was utilized to perform investigation. Obtained results are presented in the paper. On the basis of them mathematical description of magnetoelastic effect in investigated material was developed as an extend of the Rayleigh model of magnetic hysteresis. Comparison of the experimental and modeling results indicates that the developed model is correct.
