Opis:
The paper describes the possibility of using of the Preactor Express software as a visualisation and manipulation platform for custom scheduling algorithms. The implementation of a custom scheduling algorithm for a real-world application is often far less time consuming than developing a practical and comfortable user interface for the application. It is the reason why many of scheduling algorithms remain only academic ideas. Preactor Express provides many ways of accessing scheduling data, e.g.: an interactive Gantt chart, resource calendars, a report generator. Preactor Express is free of charge software. Rules of connecting external algorithms to the Preactor Express are presented and a simple example of the connection with a custom algorithm is given in the paper. The purpose of the solution is to provide a bridge between custom innovative scheduling algorithms and a professional graphical user interface characteristic of real-world applications. It can be valuable for prototype projects for industry as well as for researchers that develop scheduling algorithms.

Opis:
Organizational socialization research has been criticized for being too focused on socialization as an adaptation process. Furthermore, critics contend that socialization approaches tend to be micro-biased; they lose sight of broader societal implications. This study tackles both critiques by combining an identity-based understanding of socialization with the communicative con cept of the polyphonic organization. It is not only individuals who engage in multiple identity work; business organizations also do so when exposed to contextual voices at the macro-level of society. Qualitative interviews and focus groups with corporate communication professionals, alumni, and students reveal that there are multiple voices shaping organizational socialization. However, one societal reference has proved to be hegemonic, namely the instrumental reasoning of the economic system: newcomers are expected to adapt to the ‘real world’ of ‘budgets.’

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the capability of the Total Human Model for Safety (THUMS) – pedestrian model in predicting pedestrian injuries, and to investigate pedestrian injury mechanisms in minivan collisions via numerical reconstruction of a real world minivan-to-pedestrian impact case. Methods: A typical minivan-to-pedestrian collision case was selected from the In-depth Investigation of car Accidents in Changsha (IVAC) database. The THUMS middle-size adult male FE model and a minivan front FE model were then employed to represent the case participants and injuries to the pedestrian’s lower limb, thorax and head were reconstructed. Finally, the capability of the THUMS model in predicting pedestrian injuries and pedestrian injury mechanisms in minivan collisions were analyzed through comparisons between predictions and the accident data. Results: The results show that the THUMS has a good capability in predicting pedestrian thorax injuries, but a lower prediction of leg bending moment and brain strain. The extra bull bar concentrates crash load to pedestrian’s leg and raises tibia/fibula fracture risk, thorax injuries in the struck side are mainly from direct contact at the lower chest level, lung injury in the non-struck side could be caused by inertia force from the heart. Rotational acceleration shows good match with brain strain and could be the key mechanism for concussion. Conclusions: The results suggest that further improvement in biofidelity of the THUMS model is still needed. The findings also offer basic understanding on pedestrian injury mechanisms in minivan collisions.

Opis:
The paper presents an analysis of energy consumption in a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) used in actual road conditions. Therefore, the paper features a comparison of the consumption of energy obtained from fuel and from energy taken from the vehicle’s batteries for each travel with a total distance of 5000 km. The instantaneous energy consumption per travelling kilometre in actual operating conditions for a combustion engine mode are within the range of 233 to 1170 Wh/km and for an electric motor mode are within the range of 135 to 420 Wh/km. The average values amount to 894 Wh/km for the combustion engine and 208 Wh/km for the electric motor. The experimental data was used to develop curves for the total energy consumption per 100km of road section travelled divided into particular engine types (combustion/electric), demonstrating a close correlation to actual operating conditions. These values were referred to the tested passenger vehicle’s approval data in a WLTP test, with the average values of 303 Wh/km and CO2 emission of 23 g/km.

This research investigates the intricacies of X.509 certificates within a comprehensive corporate infrastructure. Spanning over two decades, the examined enterprise has heavily depended on its internal certificate authority and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to uphold its data and systems security. With the broad application of these certificates, from personal identification on smart cards to device and workstation authentication via Trusted Platform Modules (TPM), our study seeks to address a pertinent question on how prevalent are weak RSA keys within such a vast internal certificate repository. Previous research focused primarily on key sets publicly accessible from TLS and SSH servers or PGP key repositories. On the contrary, our investigation provides insights into the private domain of an enterprise, introducing new dimensions to this problem. Among our considerations are the trustworthiness of hardware and software solutions in generating keys and the consequential implications of identified vulnerabilities on organizational risk management. The obtained results can contribute to enhancing security strategies in enterprises.

Background: Recurrent upper respiratory infections (RURI) constitute a social problem for both their pharmaco-economic impact and the burden for the family. Bacteriotherapy could be an interesting preventive option. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the preventive effects of RURI in children. Design: The study was designed as spontaneous and was conducted in real-life setting. Globally, 80 children (40 males, mean age 5.26 (2.52) years) with RURI were enrolled. Children were treated with Streptococcus salivarius 24SMB and Streptococcus oralis 89a: nasal spray 2 puffs per nostril twice/day for a week for 3 monthly courses. Number of URI, and school and work absences were evaluated and compared with the past year. Results: Bacteriotherapy significantly halved the mean number of URI episodes being 5.98 (2.30) in the past year and 2.75 (2.43) after the treatment (p<0.0001). Bacteriotherapy also induced an over 35% reduction both in the number of school days and in the number of working days missed per month from 4.50 (2.81) to 2.80 (3.42) and from 2.33 (2.36) to 1.48 (2.16), respectively (p<0.0001). Conclusions: This real-life study provides the first evidence that Streptococcus salivarius 24SMB and Streptococcus oralis 89a nasal spray could be effective in preventing RURI in children.

In this paper, we investigate the statistical features of the weighted international-trade network. By finding the maximum weight spanning trees for this network we make the extraction of the truly relevant connections forming the network's backbone. We discuss the role of large-sized countries (strongest economies) in the tree. Finally, we compare the topological properties of this backbone to the maximum weight spanning trees obtained from the gravity model of trade. We show that the model correctly reproduces the backbone of the real-world economy.

Sustainability has become of paramount importance in the biofuel industry. Accordingly, various sustainability assessment schemes such as emergy analysis, techno-economic analysis, life cycle assessment, energy accounting, and exergy analysis and its extensions (exergoeconomic, exergoenvironmental, and exergoeconoenvironmental analyses) are being employed increasingly for decision-making on biofuel production and consumption systems. In this opinion paper, after classifying and describing biofuel generations, the developed sustainability assessment tools are critically explained, and their pros and cons are discussed. Overall, among the various sustainability assessment approaches introduced so far, exergy-based methods appear to be the most promising tools for developing sustainable biofuel systems. This can be attributed to the fact that the exergy concept is deeply rooted in the well-defined principles of thermodynamics.

Opis:
This paper presents the problem of public transport planning in terms of the optimal use of the available fleet of vehicles and reductions in operational costs and environmental impact. The research takes into account the large fleet of vehicles of various types that are typically found in large cities, including the increasingly widely used electric buses, many depots, and numerous limitations of urban public transport. The mathematical multi-criteria mathematical model formulated in this work considers many important criteria, including technical, economic, and environmental criteria. The preliminary results of the Mixed Integer Linear Programming solver for the proposed model on both theoretical data and real data from urban public transport show the possibility of the practical application of this solver to the transport problems of medium-sized cities with up to two depots, a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles, and up to about 1500 daily timetable trips. Further research directions have been formulated with regard to larger transport systems and new dedicated heuristic algorithms.

Nowadays, the Tunisian hospital environment is a complex organization in which the safety of the patient is of primary concern to the authorities. In our study we focus on the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of CHU of Sfax. It should be noted that no risk management study dealt with the hospital logistic chain in this institution. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to develop a strategy targeting the control of risks related to the patient care activities. The proposed approach consists of two phases. First, a qualitative survey, based on 20 semi-structured interviews, is carried out to identify the problems related to care and logistic activities of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department in CHU Sfax. Second, the assessment of the identified risks in the hospital context is a multicriteria decision problem. To perform the evaluation of the 12 objectives depending on the identified risks, we have chosen the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) for its simplicity and flexibility. The results of this study revealed a complexity of coordination between basic and peripheral services due to several factors. Moreover, the interviewees highlighted the importance of developing a risk management strategy in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Sfax. Finally, we proposed to apply our research in other services of the hospital to control other kinds of risk.

Introduction. Obesity is a significant health and economic problem, both for the patient and the health care system. An essential element in the prevention and treatment of each disease is the engagement of all groups of healthcare professionals. In our study, we performed an analysis of the real world data, obtained from a survey of the medical and socioeconomic problems associated with overweight and obesity. We aimed to identify the pharmacist’s role in the management of overweight and obese patients, including their individualized education in an outpatient setting. Material and methods. The study material consisted of responses obtained from a specially designed questionnaire. Our findings indicate that the study patients had easy access to a pharmacist’s professional knowledge, relevant to comprehensive treatment of obesity. In addition, our data indicates a lack of patient knowledge of a healthy lifestyle and an inability to implement such knowledge in practice. Results. The community pharmacist should actively provide support to patients with obesity (including the primary obesity and those who want to lose excessive body mass for health-related and also for aesthetic reasons) and the management of their weight. The results of our study should be considered as an introduction to further research to facilitate the understanding of problems and expectations of patients and to prepare pharmacists to perform pharmaceutical care (PC) in this regard. Conclusion. One of the potential options to protect society against the obesity epidemic is an education about the risks inherent to obesity and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
