Intersex newborns cannot be qualified as male or female at the level of their biological traits. People with nonbinary gender identity are those who do not identify as a man or a woman (at the level of gender identity). In most countries both groups, intersex people and nonbinary people, are in legal limbo. The existence of congenital eunuchs/ hermaphrodites is confirmed in the Bible. Recently, a process has begun to introduce third sex/gender options in documents. I discuss the legal recognition in Germany, where since 2019 there have been used three sex/gender categories: male, female, and diverse (divers). Finally, I present a nonbinary and multilayered conceptualization of sex/gender that goes beyond the system of male/female categorization. It includes a third category in addition to male/female and allows us to describe the clash of layers.

The created world of Ada Palmer’s Terra Ignota series depicts a future society where gender identity has undergone a process of uniformisation, resulting in the erasure of gendered language. The novels take the form of a confessional (a recounting of the events of the past) which are published in the future society without the express consent of the other characters taking part in the depicted course of events. The narrator, in a motivated show of re bellion against their society’s current ideology (discussed both at the beginning of the series and as they progress with the narration), reinscribes gendered pronouns onto the unknowing characters; however, this is done on an arbitrary basis, which the narrator does not always discuss. The present paper aims to emphasize the growing number of LGBT+ novels published and the impossibility of transposing them into Romanian due to the lack of a gender-neutral pronoun that does not default to the masculine. The paper analyses Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer in order to specify the various nuances that would be lost in the cultural adaptation and translation of the novel into Romanian, a translation which has yet to occur, given the complexity and constraints of the novel and the depicted ideology behind it.

Opis:
This paper aims to reconstruct the biographical work (Corbin and Strauss) undertaken by parents of non-normative people. The initiating event of biographical work is the disclosure of a non-normative sexual orientation and/or gender identity by the child. For many parents, this is an event that causes a breakdown of previous schemes of action, a gradual loss of control, and suffering. The empirical data consist of autobiographical narratives of parents of people with non-normative sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The study involved mothers and fathers residing throughout Poland, who were selected according to the snowball procedure. The data were collected through the narrative interview technique and compiled according to the analytical procedure proposed by Fritz Schütze, which is part of the interpretative research paradigm. In the course of four parallel biographical processes (contextualizing, coming to terms, reconstituting identity, and recasting biography), the new experience is integrated into the biography, its consequences are understood and accepted, a coherent identity is reconstituted and a new course for one’s life are charted. The analysis of the narrators’ biographical work has made it possible to identify three categories that organize the course of the parents’ lives and identities—stigma, normalization, and activism.

Psychic sex consists of gender identity (self-estimation), gender role (objective estimation of the behavior) and psycho-sexual orientation (hetero-, bi- or homosexual). It was believed that gender identification depends on the socio-environmental influences such as rearing, learning and individual choice. It has become recently evident that endogenous hormones more than socio-environmental factors may create sexually dimorphic gender identification and role. Experiments revealed that transient action of sex steroids (testosterone or estradiol) during perinatal life is crucial for the development of male sexual behavior in adulthood. In human male testosterone, produced perinatally in adult-type amounts, may play a role in the masculinisation of the brain i.e. creation of physiological and behavioral differences versus the female brain. In patients with disturbances of sexual differentiation of external genitalia (intersexuality) gender identity is also affected. Female gender identity is associated with the presence of ovaries or the lack of gonads (agenesis/dysgenesis), i.e. lack of sex steroids in fetal life. Male gender identity appears in the presence of testicular tissue (presence of testosterone in fetal life) irrespective of karyotype and phenotype of the body. In genetic men with the absence of male genitalia due to aberrant function of the androgen receptor (46,XY women), gender identity depends on the severity of the disorder: female - in the complete form and female, male or ambivalent - in the partial. These indicate that androgens are involved in the creation of male gender identity, whereas a female identity develops in the absence of androgen action during sexual differentiation.

Opis:
Femininity and masculinity associated with human identity is genetically determined from the beginning of the individual human being. The diverse genetic material with the appropriate software epigenetic characteristic of a particular gender is introduced at the moment of conception due to sperm penetrating to the egg. It is then that the process of molecular changes that differentiate sex of cells and thus the whole organism of the human person is initiated. Different genes and regulators are involved in shaping the characteristics of the female or male human body and forms of their behavior. They reveal their activity depending on the developmental age of the body and the functions of individual tissues and organs forming a related system known as sexome. Regulatory mechanisms of the genome software called the epigenome responding well to environmental influences belong to the elements performing in a network of links. Therefore, the genetically and epigenetically determined sexual dimorphism of human beings is a natural way of their social and cultural development.

Psychology, particularly developmental psychology, has shown that a child is born as a sexual person, and his/her sexuality develops in stages associated with general child development and the tasks related to development. The stages of sexual development (psychosexual development according to Sigmund Freud) were presented in detail in order to clarify the need for an early start sex education and to demonstrate that specific content/information, skills and attitudes are passed on in connection with the development of the child. The optimal situation is when the individual issues are introduced before the child reaches the appropriate stage of development, so as to prepare them for the changes that will soon have to occur (for example, girls should know about menstruation occurs before menarche).

Podstawową intencją niniejszego artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na iluzoryczną kondycję rodziny współczesnej. Paradoksalny tryb jej aktualnego funkcjonowania osadzono w perspektywie symbolicznego przejścia do późnej nowoczesności, a kategorią rozsadzającą zwarty monolit kierowanych wobec niej roszczeń uczyniono tożsamość rodzaju. Jej ponowoczesna konceptualizacja okazała się narzędziem bardzo sprawnie demistyfikującym bezradność modernistycznych metanarracji, eksponujących bezużyteczność natury, nauki oraz całego kompleksu znaczeń przypisywanych rodzinie w procesie ustanawiania obowiązującej definicji płci. Całość zaprezentowanych rozważań znajduje się zatem w stanie dość osobliwego „zawieszenia” pomiędzy w dalszym ciągu aktywnym dyktatem tradycji a coraz trudniejszą do przewidzenia logiką dnia doczesnego.

Opis:
The present article aims to analyse the depictions of male protagonists in the oeuvre of Marek Hłasko. The post-World War Two crisis of hegemonic masculinity resulted in transformations of male and female gender identities in the 1950s. What seems to reflect the said reconfiguration of masculinity model are the changes occurring between the main protagonists of the particular pieces of Hłasko’s prose. In the 1954 short story entitled Baza Sokołowska, the men’s identities are, in the natural way, embedded in biology. In order to join the male community of drivers and gain their respect, it is enough to go through an initiation ritual. In the prose written by Hłasko after 1955, however, more and more often appear the male characters who humiliate the young and thwart them on their way to join masculine community, yet simultaneously some characters are presented who contest forms of patriarchal culture and refuse to participate in it. Hłasko’s Israeli novels, in turn, feature a series of male protagonists for whom gender (or even sexual) identity is merely a social construct. The narrator/protagonist of Drugie zabicie psa (Killing the Second Dog) would even consciously “perform” his masculinity to obtain an affluent female tourist’s trust and, as a result, to cozen her out of her money, which he needs to pay back his debts. The analysis of Marek Hłasko’s selected prose writings focused on the representation of various masculinity models leads the author of the article to a conclusion that male gender identity is consistently shifting towards constructivist concepts.

The promotion, protection and the guaranteeing of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the individual, including the LGBT person’s rights, must have the same attention and consideration, irrespective of the fact that the individual is being part of a social minor group, or part of the majority of the society. The community of the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender (LGBT) in Albania, based on the legislation in force, should enjoy equal rights and freedoms like all other members of the society. The Constitution of the Republic of Albania, the Albanian labour legislation and the legislation generally, are inspired in accordance with the non-discrimination principles, objectives and definitions of international acts, promoting and expressing protection of human rights and freedoms in general, and in particular in the field of employment and vocational training. This paper will analyze, if the sexual orientation, is one of the causes of discrimination for employment and vocational training, in Albanian legislation, especially how it is expressed this issue on the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, the Albanian Labour Code, the Albanian law “On the protection against discrimination” ect.

Opis:
The author delivers a polemic with the paper published in 2007 by an unofficial international group of experts. The group’s aim is to send a message to all countries indicating extensive consequences of general guarantees provided by international human rights law, especially for the purpose of individual’s protection against sexual and gender discrimination. The author does not deny an individual right to define his/her private life without interference from the state or private parties. However he criticizes the group for its demand – made in a spirit of a modern interpretation of traditional human rights – for affirmation and the so called equality of individual’s decisions regarding sexuality in the areas where the state is obliged to guarantee „institutional space” or „institutional infrastructure” for privacy and the right to procreate. For instance, this relates to legal definition of a family. The author claims that definitions of „sexual orientation” and „gender identity” are not commonly recognized and understood in the same way. This thesis relates to the attributes of a private life which are impossible, or hardly possible, to be measured on the basis of external indications or declarations, the ones which individuals should be entitled not to disclose to the state or anyone else. Repeating the phrase „regardless of sexual orientation or gender identification” in the text of the paper implies public and political importance of these attributes. Whereas the author wonders whether the Yogyakarta Principles amount to a form of discrimination and improper political campaign using the individual's private life details without their consent.

This article presents the results of biographical research involving women and men over 60, with a focus on the issue of gender identity and how it changes during aging. The study provided answers to three main research questions: Are there distinguishable patterns of forming one’s own gender identity that are specific to senior age, and if so, which ones? Do the patterns change during the ageing process, and if so, how? What determines how a person experiences the transformation of their gender identity in senior age? The article also discusses the ways elderly men and women define their own femininity or masculinity and the significance in this regard of such biographical experiences as losing a spouse, retirement, and bodily aging. There is also an attempt at a typology of senior femininities and senior masculinities.

Background. Some studies on the decision of patients to choose their primary healthcare physician demonstrate that the ability to choose their physician is associated with increased patient satisfaction, confidence in the doctor and quality healthcare. Objectives. The study was aimed at evaluating factors effecting the decision to change the family physician. Material and methods. In the study, a questionnaire was used to examine the socio-demographic characteristics of the individuals, and the EUROPEP scale was used to measure the satisfaction with primary health services. Moreover, the Individual Innovativeness Scale was used in order to evaluate the innovativeness of individuals. Results. In people who apply to change their family physician, satisfaction with the previous family physician was found to be 69%. Distance (52.7%), education (25.8%) and gender (16%) were declared as the most important reasons to change the family physician. An individual’s innovation seeking behavior did not affect on their decisions to change the physician. Conclusions. In the present study, patient satisfaction was lower than the results reported in previous studies. Distance, education and gender are at the forefront in family physician preference. Patients prioritize receiving service from trained family physicians. These issues should be taken into account while planning the future of family practice.
