    The focus of the sustainable development concept is on working out action plans as sustainable development cannot be realised without the readiness of people to change. This requires changing the attitudes, the philosophy of life and the education concepts. In 2005 and 2008 the German Commission for UNESCO published National Action Plans. Their authors promote them as „comprehensive plans for the modernisation of life and economy in the 21st century”, demanding new skills in education on the first place. The article presents an outline of the history and the institutionalisation process of the Decade in Germany together with three successful projects which can serve as examples of „good practices and the success criteria as well as indication of potential barriers” for the future years of the Decade.

    W badaniach polowych określano wpływ środków powierzchniowo czynnych, dodawanych do cieczy użytkowej zawierającej herbicydy Hector 53,6 WG lub Hector Max 66,5 WG, na skuteczność zwalczania komosy białej w uprawie kukurydzy. Oceniano ponadto wpływ rozpylaczy o identycznej intensywności wypływu cieczy (w dm3·min-1), lecz wytwarzających krople o zróżnicowanej wielkości (jakość rozpylenia cieczy), na efektywność chwastobójczą. W zmiennych warunkach meteorologicznych panujących przed zabiegami ochronnymi i w trakcie ich wykonywania, dobór adiuwantów i rozpylaczy wpływał na skuteczność działania herbicydów. W warunkach stabilnych najlepsze efekty zniszczenia komosy białej (gatunek trudno zwilżalny) uzyskano po wykonaniu opryskiwania za pomocą rozpylaczy dwustrumieniowych TwinJet TJ60 11002 VS, wytwarzających krople drobne i bardzo drobne, natomiast w warunkach zmiennych i stresu wodnego – lepszym rozwiązaniem było użycie do zabiegu rozpylaczy grubokroplistych (AVI 11002), gdy do herbicydów dodawano adiuwanty o cechach poprawiających retencję oraz wnikanie substancji czynnych przez warstwę woskową liści. Najbardziej efektywnym dodatkiem okazał się adiuwant olejowy Olstick 90 EC.
    The droplet size used for spraying operations and spray liquid properties modified with adjuvants have a significant impact on the coverage of the leaf surface of weeds and protected plants. In the study the effect of nozzle types with the same output but with different spray qualities (droplet size) was tested. Also was evaluated the influence of surface active agents (adjuvants) added to herbicide in tank mixture against Chenopodium album L. control in maize. Depending on weather conditions prevailing during the period of protective treatments (variable structure of weed leaf surface), the impact of spraying techniques and adjuvants on herbicidal effectiveness were mixed. The results showed that the most effective weed control was achieved after treatment with a fine nozzles TwinJet TJ60 11002 VS, especially when the adjuvants were added to herbicides to increase retention and penetration of active ingredients through a wax layer on the Ch. album leaves. In variable weather conditions the most useful was an adjuvant oil Olstick 90 EC.

    Fe/Nb/Fe trilayers were prepared at room temperature using UHV magnetron sputtering. The interlayer exchange coupling energy was determined from a shift of the minor hysteresis loop from the origin. Results showed clear antiferromagnetic (AF) coupling maxima near ım6 and 9 monolayers of Nb spacer. Calculations of the interlayer exchange coupling energy were carried out using ab-initio method with localized spin density approximations of exchange-correlation potential. The experimental results were in good agreement with ab-initio calculations. Furthermore, the position of the AF peaks and coupling energy values could be modified using hydrogen.

    Oxidation process of Fe films under atmospheric conditions is depth limited such that an oxide covering layer with a well-defined thickness is formed by which the underlying metal is prevented from further oxidation. Iron thin film with an initial thickness d_{i}=4 nm was deposited onto 1.6 nm - V(110) buffer layer using UHV magnetron sputtering. The planar growth of Fe oxides was revealed by atomic force microscopy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies performed after 250 days of oxidation revealed formation of a hematite (α-Fe₂O₃) ultrathin film on the metallic rest of iron. Furthermore, low temperature magnetic measurements of the oxidised Fe ultrathin film revealed an exchange anisotropy which is imposed to the metallic rest. As a result, we have observed at low temperatures a shift and broadening of the hysteresis loops due to the exchange interaction at the metal-oxide interface.

    We have studied oxidation kinetics of Fe thin film under atmospheric conditions using the fact that metallic iron is a ferromagnet but ultrathin natural iron oxides are approximately nonmagnetic at room temperature. As a consequence, oxidation is associated with a loss in total Fe magnetic moment. Results show that the sample with an initial Fe thickness equal to 10 nm oxidize relatively fast (time constant τ=0.05 day), whereby a constant amount of 2.5 nm of metal is transformed into oxides. For lower iron initial thickness (d_{i}=4 nm) the time constant for oxidation significantly increases reaching a value of 2 days. Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies performed after 144 days of oxidation revealed formation of hematite (α-Fe₂O₃) thin film on the metallic rest of iron.
