Opis:
Various diagnostic methods were used to evaluate the effect of fungicide protection on the prevalence of pathogenic fungi in wheat grain. Winter wheat cv. Nutka and Zyta was grown during a field experiment established in the Production and Experimental Station in Bałcyny in 2006–2007. The experimental factor was chemical crop protection: epoxiconazole, kresoxim-methyl and fenpropimorph applied at growth stages BBCH 33–35 as well as dimoxystrobin and epoxiconazole applied at BBCH 51–53. In this experiment, microscopic observations and conventional PCR assays were used as complementary methods. The quantification of Fusarium poae DNA by qPCR demonstrated the effectiveness of chemical protection against the analyzed fungal species. Lower monthly precipitation levels and higher daily temperatures intensified grain infections, in particular those caused by F. poae. A significant correlation was determined between the number of F. poae cultures isolated from winter wheat grain and the quantity of pathogenic DNA in grain identified by qPCR. Grain infections caused by F. poae lowered yield and thousand seed weight.

Opis:
The possibility of using chemicals in European forestry is extremely limited due to the binding legal regulations and specific conditions concerning the market of plant protection products. This is reflected in the limited availability of active fungicides in forestry. Due to this limitation, practitioners using fungicides in forest nurseries and forest cultivation must have substantial knowledge of the biology of pathogens to ensure satisfactorily effective protection. The work presented here provides an overview of the currently recommended fungicides in Polish forestry as well as the mechanisms of interaction between the active substances and the pathogen, the plant and mycorrhizal fungi. In this paper we also discuss the risk of fungicide resistance, which has been insufficiently explored in the context of forest pathogens.

Achieving high quality propagative material is difficult today due to the limited number of pesticides recommended for use. Simultaneously, EU regulations on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in forest nurseries came into a force, requiring a search for alternative plant protection methods that are safe for humans, animals and the environment. In this paper, we present the possibilities of using bio-fungicides against diseases in forest nurseries, their mechanisms of action, as well as the direction of their development (according to IPM rules). We reviewed the results achieved by different research teams presenting the possibilities and trends in combatting Oomycetes and Fusarium spp. pathogens currently having the most important economic impact.

Opis:
A controlled field experiment was carried out in 2011-2014 in order to determine yields and chemical composition of selected genotypes of leguminous plants and spring wheat, as well as their value as a preceding crop (crop volume, mineral composition of seeds) for winter oilseed rape grown in Northern Poland. Chemical analysis of the content of macronutrients and micronutrients in seeds and grain was conducted using standard methods after mineralisation in H2SO4 with H2O2 as an oxidant (macronutrients), or in a mixture of the acids HNO3+HCl+HClO4 (micronutrients). It was proven that among the examined species and seasonal types of legumes, the highest total seed and protein yield volume was obtained from both field bean forms, traditional and determinate one. The lowest yield was achieved from blue lupine. The yield of winter wheat grain oscillated around 5.6 t ha-1. Blue lupine seeds were characterised by the highest total protein content. Seeds of both field bean forms were distinguished by the highest content of potassium, phosphorus, copper and zinc, while blue lupine seeds had the highest content of calcium, magnesium and manganese. The research showed a clear tendency towards a higher winter oilseed rape yield in a field after determinate field bean and seed pea. Spring wheat proved to be the worst previous crop for winter oilseed rape. The tendency for greater accumulation of nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, copper, iron and zinc in winter oilseed rape seeds was observed in a field after determinate field bean. The lowest content of macronutrients and micronutrients was characteristic for seeds of winter oilseed rape grown after spring wheat. Winter oilseed rape seeds in a field after determinate field bean and blue lupine were rich in manganese. The research proved a positive relationship between the total nitrogen content in soil after harvest of pre-crop plants and winter oilseed rape seeds yield (r = 0.864).

Opis:
A pot experiment on different methods of EM 1 application was conducted in the period 2002–2004. The study was carried out under controlled growth conditions. The experimental factor was the method of EM1 application. Before application, the biological preparation EM1 was propagated as recommended by the manufacturer (Greenland). The health status of the aboveground parts of ‘Ramrod’ pea plants was estimated at the flowering stage. The assessment of pea leaf gas exchange parameters (An, E, Gs, and Ci) was made using a LI-Cor 6400 Portable Photosynthesis System. Soil application of EM1 combined with chemical control contributed to inhibiting Fusarium wilt of pea. Foliar application of EM1 combined with chemical control increased all gas exchange rates of pea leaves. Fusarium wilt of pea insignificantly decreased all gas exchange rates of pea leaves and the number of seeds per pod. The best method of EM1 application was soil treatment combined with chemical control, which increased all yield-related morphometric parameters of pea.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to determine the influence of nitrogen fertilization and the preceding crop on the yield and chemical composition of winter oilseed rape. The yield of winter oilseed rape increased significantly in response to a fertilizer dose of 180 kg N ha-1. In our study, significant interactions were observed between the preceding crop and dose of nitrogen fertilizer. The optimal N fertilizer dose for winter oilseed rape grown after peas, narrow-leaved lupine and traditional (indeterminate) faba beans is 120 kg N ha-1. The recommended N fertilizer dose for winter oilseed rape is 60 kg N∙ha-1 after determinate faba beans and 180 kg N ha-1 after spring wheat. Winter oilseed rape was characterized by the highest seed yield when grown after determinate faba beans, and its yield was slightly lower after peas and narrow-leaved lupine. The lowest seed yield was noted when spring wheat was the preceding crop. The micronutrient content (Mn, Zn, Cu and Fe) of winter oilseed rape increased significantly in response to an increase in nitrogen fertilization doses. The seeds of winter oilseed rape were characterized by the highest phosphorus and magnesium content when grown after peas, the highest potassium content was achieved after determinate faba beans, and the highest calcium content occurrd in oilseed ape when grown after spring wheat. A linear regression analysis revealed a significant relationship between total nitrogen concentrations in the seeds of winter oilseed rape growth after spring wheat and nitrogen fertilization dose. An increase in fertilization levels enhanced nitrogen accumulation in seeds. A similar trend was noted when winter oilseed rape was grown after indeterminate faba beans and peas.

Opis:
Seeds of the Andean lupine are characterised by high nutritional value, and the plant could become an important crop in the production of food and forage. This legume continues to attract growing interest around the world. A field experiment was carried out in in Lower Silesia, Poland, in 2011-2012. Two Andean lupine morphotypes (indeterminate and determinate) were analysed. Andean lupine was grown in treatments characterised by different sowing dates and plant density per m2. Seed yield, macronutrient content, protein content and health were evaluated at harvest. Seed yield was determined by the interaction of all experimental factors. The indeterminate form produced a significantly higher yield than the determinate form, regardless of the sowing date. The factors had little influence on the mineral content of seeds and total protein content. Andean lupine seeds were colonised mostly by saprotrophic fungi of the genera Alternaria, Cladosporium, Epicoccum and Rhizopus and pathogenic fungi of the genera Botrytis, Colletotrichum and Fusarium. Delayed sowing contributed to seed colonisation by fungi of the genus Colletotrichum. The determinate form was more susceptible to infection than the indeterminate form. Molecular analysis showed that the Colletotrichum isolates found in the study belong to the Colletotrichum acutatum species complex. The pathogen causing lupine anthracnose, isolated from the seeds of Andean lupine in the present study, was identified as Colletotrichum lupini (within C. acutatum complex) in a molecular analysis, and its DNA sequence was compared with those of the isolates deposited in the GenBank.

Opis:
The rate of photosynthesis and transpiration, intercellular CO2 concentration, and stomatal conductance of two cultivars of winter wheat were determined in the study. The severity of fungal infection of the grain was also estimated. It was found that water deficit decreased the values of gas exchange parameters, biometric characters and grain weight. In the first year the number of fungal isolates in wheat grain of both cultivars was lower under water stress conditions. However, in the next year the findings were ambiguous.
