Opis:
In the years 2000 and 2001 field experiments were conducted at two locations, using the levels of seeding rate (maximum - used in the practice, optimum 420 plants m⁻² and minimum - 210 plants m⁻²) in two cultivars of Lolium perenne L. having extreme thousand seed weight. The influence of seeding rate on plant installation (plant density and tillering) in the year of sowing and vegetative and generative shoots production in the year of seed yielding were studied. There was also studied the influence of analysed traits on seed yield. For this analyses the additional parameters: field emergence, plant installation and multiplication index were used. It was found, that actual plant density differed widely from germination capacity determined in laboratory and amounted even 50% of the field emergence. It was dependent on seeding rate and thousand seed weight of cultivar. Field emergence successfully increased when seeding rate decreased and was higher in cultivar with higher thousand seed weight. Seminally plant tillering was considerable better at lower plant density. In general, plant installation in the field conditions was in the year of sowing twice higher at minimum seeding rate. Vegetative shoot density per area unit, in autumn, did not closely correspond with seeding rate, however correlation was positive. To the lesser degree it was related to the number of vegetative shoots grown in the spring, which producted ca. 15-30% of generative shoots. Generative shoot density number depended directly on vegetative shoot number and influenced greatly seed yield (correlation coefficient 0.777). As the sowing rate decreased, the plants were a little higher and substantial increase of the thousand seed weight was recorded. Approximately the triple decrease, at the lack of statistically proved yield decrease, caused respectively the triple increase of seed multiplication coefficient, which value in one of conducted experiments, exceeded an unusual as far value - 300.

Opis:
As a fuel, biomass differs in its properties from fossil fuels and acquisition thereof for energy purposes is limited; hence, the ongoing search for new bioenergetically useful plants. The article presents the results of physical and chemical analyses of seven species of perennial grasses: tall wheatgrass, tall wheatgrass ‘Bamar’, brome grass, tall fescue ecotype, reed canary grass, giant miscanthus, and sorghum. The research involved technical and elemental analysis as well as analysis of the ash composition performed in order to determine their potential use for combustion process. The measurement results were compared with those obtained for hard coal and agricultural biomass, which is widely used in the energy industry. The results suggest that perennial grasses can successfully be combusted with similar performance to coal if burned in appropriate combustion installations.
