    Artykuł pt. „Rys historyczny aktów terroru kryminalnego i incydentów noszących znamiona czynu o charakterze terrorystycznym w Polsce oraz przeciwko obywatelom RP” składa się z wprowadzenia, trzech części oraz podsumowania. W pierwszej części artykułu zidentyfikowane zostały incydenty, w których posługiwano się metodami terrorystycznymi jako narzędziem do osiągnięcia własnych celów i potrzeb, mające miejsce na terenie państwa polskiego do lat 90. XX wieku. Następnie szczegółowo omówione zostały wybrane przykłady aktów terroru kryminalnego oraz noszące znamiona czynu o charakterze terrorystycznym w Polsce na przełomie XX i XXI wieku. Ponadto w artykule odniesiono się również do zamachów skierowanych przeciwko obywatelom RP będących wynikiem działalności grup terrorystycznych operujących w różnych częściach świata. W podsumowaniu ujęte zostały natomiast generalne wnioski dotyczące dotychczasowej działalności terrorystycznej na terytorium RP.
    The article titled „Historical background of criminal terrorist acts and incidents, which appear to constitute a terrorist act in Poland and against Polish citizens” consists of an Introduction, three parts and a summary. The first part of this article identifies incidents taking place on the Polish territory since the nineties of the twentieth century, where terrorism methods were used by the perpetrators as a tool to achieve their own goals and needs. The second part presents selected examples of criminal terrorism and terrorism acts constituting an terrorism offence, which took place in Poland at the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first century. The third part addresses attacks against Polish citizens, resulting from the activities of terrorist groups operating in different parts of the world. The summary contains general conclusions with regard to terrorist activities, which took place so far on the territory of Poland.

    W artykule analizuje się terroryzm jako niebezpieczne zjawisko dla ludzkości stojące w jednym szeregu zagrożeń światowych obok jądrowego i ekologicznego. Międzynarodowy terroryzm staje się najbardziej rozpowszechnionym środkiem decyzji konfliktów w różnych regionach. W warunkach zaostrzenia kryzysu obejmującego polityczne, gospodarcze i społeczne życie na Ukrainie, można określić czynniki sprzyjające rozwojowy terroryzmu : kryminalizacja społeczeństwa, korupcja, niski poziom gospodarczy kraju, niezadowolenie z istniejących stosunków społecznych, wzrastający poziom przestępczości.
    Modern international community always faces problems and terrorism is ranked as a number one of these challenges. It can be traced back to ancient times. The foundation for terrorism emergence and development was in property and social inequalities, transformation of the well-established way of life, differences in the mentality, the objective need for changing the trajectory of the development, the growing gap between the rich and the poor inside the country and at the international level, rapid technical and technological progress, the commercialization of life and resulting moral decay.

    The article refers to selected aspects of knowledge about terrorism and its typology. The introduction explains the etymology of this concept and highlights the problem of diversity in the definition of terrorism. The next part cites several definitions of terrorism, which, in the author’s opinion, reflect the essence of this phenomenon. The difference between terrorism and terror, which are two terms that should not be used interchangeably, is also explained. The next part of the article illustrates the source of the problem which makes it impossible to agree on a commonly accepted definition of terrorism by giving an example of the wording of the Arab Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism. Then, the inherent feature of terrorism is explained, which is its asymmetry. The last part of the article concerns a typology of terrorism. It presents in a synthetic way various categories of terrorism, distinguished according to such criteria as: actors, motives, strategic (final) goals, close (closer) goals, type of actions, nature of the object of attacks, international implications, and means and methods used by terrorists. The article ends with a concise summary of the considerations on the theoretical aspects of terrorism undertaken in it.

    Currently, the concept of terrorism, which in recent years has intensified so much, it is still difficult to define, there are huge inconsistencies in both its defining and application. For many years, terrorism was linked with geographically and culturally distant countries, but the 20th and 21st centuries changed the face of this phenomenon, which did not resist globalization and has become one of the major problems that befits to face the modern world. The issue of terrorism, although investigated by many eminent scientists, and even though there are a great many scientific achievements in this subject, it is still a difficult problem and raises a lot of confusion of a legal-dogmatic nature, which the Author tried to highlight herein. The article presents the analysis of the concept of terrorism and illustrates the problems associated with the broad catalogue of definitions of this term. The main problems preventing continued unification of definition are presented. Furthermore, the text assumes the analysis of the legal state instrumental for combating terrorism, with particular focus on terrorist crime contained in the Polish Penal Code.

    Terrorism has become a global issue since the beginnings of the 21st century and it was to have been solved by countries which, at that time, had no experience in dealing with such criminal activity. There has been a very real sense of threat in many countries and, consequently, terrorism has become one of the most important problems for today’s world. It could be seen on many occasions that terrorism is an effective and ruthless way of causing physical damage and non-physical harm. Spreading fear among the general public has become one of the main objectives of terrorists and recent occurrences have clearly demonstrated that this is effective indeed. Taking such circumstances into account, it is hardly surprising that counter-terrorist activities are drawing more and more attention. Undoubtedly, continuous cooperation between countries on an international level for handling both global and regional threats is the most effective way of combating terrorism. As far as this is concerned, creating the relevant institutions over the course of many years is essential. The EU has long been trying to ensure conformity of the legal systems of its member states in order to make it possible to engage in efficient cooperation and to create a zone of safety and stability. However, it should be emphasized that there is still much to be done.

    The public discourse in Israel regarding events such as the Holocaust, war, or terror attacks mostly failed to embrace the trauma caused by such events, and to integrate their effects in the collective memory. According to trauma theoreticians, the location of trauma in the discourse is related to the character of trauma as a non-narratable memory, since personal trauma exist in the void, thus marking a missing memory. This paper explores the notion of trauma in contemporary Israeli cinema as it was reconstructed during and after the Second Intifada (2000–2008). The paper focuses on feature films reflecting on experiences of terrorist violence, among them Avanim (2004), Distortion (2004), Frozen Days (2006), The Bubble (2006), 7 Minutes in Heaven (2009). These films embrace parallel elements structuring a worldview, in the private as well as the collective sphere, thus shaping the surroundings as a mirror of the self and the subjective traumatic experience as a reflection of a complex social reality.A particular focus of our analysis will also be on aesthetic strategies that cinematically express rupture and distortion of terrorist violence and trauma, especially moments of suddenness and disruption in contrast to duration and circular repetition, elements of a specific temporality of trauma that also shaped the narration and style of recent Israeli war films, such as Waltz with Bashir (2008) or Beaufort (2007).

    The article considers terrorism as a socio-political and psychological phenomenon. In this context, the fundamental differences of terror and terrorism are revealed and the key parameters of a terrorist’s psychomental complex are schematized. Schismogenesis is considered a psychological mechanism for conflict generation.

    This article addresses the problems related to characteristics of contemporary terrorist organizations and the rules of their operation. The views presented here are based on an analysis of the differences and similarities of terrorist attacks carried out so far, taking into account their purpose and the tools used, and, above all, the traits of terrorist activities, such as surprise, dynamism, purposefulness and maneuverability. This allows the author to present the characteristics of methods applied by terrorists. At the same time, it provides the foundations for reflection in that respect. Finally, it presents the issues related to the impact of terrorist organizations on the local, regional and global scale as well as discussing the possible ways of counteracting this phenomenon.

    Tekst jest próbą prześledzenia dialektyki pojęcia przemocy w kontekście tzw. „wojny z terroryzmem”. Autor, wychodząc od krytycznej analizy koncepcji zderzenia cywilizacji, stara się nakreślić bardziej złożony obraz historycznych i politycznych tendencji, składających się na obecną sytuację geopolityczną Bliskiego Wschodu. Dzięki temu możliwe staje się odrzucenie moralizatorskiej retoryki dotyczącej „wojny z terroryzmem”. Spojrzenie na główne cechy współczesnych konfliktów zbrojnych bez moralnych uprzedzeń pozwala podważyć założenie, zgodnie z którym istnieje zasadnicza różnica pomiędzy współczesną wojną, prowadzoną przez armie (posiadające państwową legitymizację), a terroryzmem. Rozróżnienie to leży u podstaw dominującego w zachodnich mediach obrazu „wojny z terroryzmem”, przedstawianej jako prosta i moralnie uzasadniona reakcja na barbarzyńską przemoc, która ma swoje źródła w islamie. Opowieść o zderzeniu barbarzyństwa i cywilizacji stanowi jedną z historycznych narracji służących uzasadnieniu przemocy, która wpisana jest w dzieje relacji Zachodu ze światem niezachodnim.
    The author makes an attempt to trace the dialectics of violence in the context of the so-called War on Terror. The text starts with a critical analysis of the “Clash of Civilizations” idea in order to draw a more complex image of the historical and political tendencies that determine the conditions of the contemporary problems in the area called the Middle East. Critical insight into the Western media narrative portraying the “War on Terror” as a direct reaction to the violence originating in Islam suggests a need to focus on the idea of the clash between the civilized and barbaric world. The opposition between civilization and barbarism is not only inscribed in the dominant narratives on the War on Terror but is also one of the main historical narratives applied by the West to its relation with the non-West.

    W artykule poruszono problematykę zwalczania terroryzmu na płaszczyźnie zinstytucjonalizowanej Europy. Znakomitym obszarem badawczym w tym zakresie, z racji zarówno realnych zagrożeń, jak i aktywizowania obszaru przeciwdziałania, jest kontynent europejski. Początek powojennej europejskiej współpracy w dziedzinie zwalczania terroryzmu datuje się na lata 70. ubiegłego wieku. Czynnikiem inicjującym była nowa twarz europejskiego terroryzmu. Ówczesny terroryzm zyskał na sile, a z narodowego przeobraził się w ponadnarodowy. Przeobrażenia te trwale zapisały się w środowisku bezpieczeństwa współczesnej Europy, w której wiele instytucji międzynarodowych podejmuje działania związane z przeciwdziałaniem terroryzmowi oraz reagowaniem na akty przemocy ze strony organizacji międzynarodowych.
    The article discusses the issue of combating terrorism at the level of institutionalized Europe. An excellent research area in this field, due to both the real threats and the activation of the counteraction area, is the European continent. The beginning of the post-war European cooperation in the field of combating terrorism dates back to the 1970s. The initiating factor was the new face of European terrorism. The terrorism of that time grew stronger and transformed from a national one into a supranational one. These transformations have permanently enshrined in the security environment of modern Europe, in which many international institutions respond to counteract terrorism and react to acts of violence on the part of international organizations.

    Opis:
    The present article analyses Use phenomena of the Islamic State, since its coming into being until now. Undoubtedly, it makes, up a significant factor disturbing safety and order both in the regional and global scale. Moreover, the methods of operation of the Islamists and passive reaction of the West, which is limited to bombing and providing military aid, have been analysed. The key players in the conflict under question are the West countries, the special military forces thereof are operating in the territories occupied by the Islamists, whereas in the region of Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran, each of the concerned country, due to different, reasons, acts in an entanglement of circumstances being supported by the conflict. The Islamic State will not survive because it is embraced and fight off by all, none is going to recognize it as a state in accordance with the international law; nevertheless, it may by „transferred” to the grounds of the so called failed states. This in turn will cause successive waves of emigration, humanitarian disasters and return to Europe the volunteers originating from those continents. They can engage in terroristic and subversive activity being at the same time difficult to detect.
