Opis:
Coal is a strategic and essential resource that ensures quality of life, energy security and sustainable development. Being the cheapest source of energy, it is the second after oil that is used to generate 40% of the world's electricity. However, traditional and conventional coal fuel extraction can threaten human health bycontaminating air and water, harming land, and contributing to global warming. The environmental impacts associated with conventional methods of coal mining and consumption can affect all components of the environment, and these impacts may be beneficial or harmful, permanent or temporary, repairable or irreparable, and reversible or irreversible in nature. These effects require considering of changing the production and consumption of coalwithin a technological framework. Coal mining operationscan cause both quantitative and qualitative impacts on water systems in and around mining areas. This paper reviews the impacts of coal mining on water resource development. Land subsidence, disruption of hydrological channels, flooding, and contamination of water resources and depletion of water table are the major measurable impacts of mining activity on the hydrological environment.

Opis:
The current market environment is affected by several fundamental changes. A large number of these affect manufacturing companies the most. They are forced to continuously reduce their costs, improve the quality of service to their customers and adapt to a highly competitive environment. However, environmental requirements for production processes have become increasingly important in recent years. These are underpinned by legislative changes that put enormous pressure on manufacturers. Often, environmental requirements can also determine the economic success of a manufacturer. The areas that have a significant environmental impact include metallurgical technologies. These are currently predominantly based on the use of coke, which is produced from high-quality hard coal. The mining of raw materials also has significant environmental impacts. The article deals with analysing downstream production processes regarding their environmental impact. These are the areas of mining, ore processing and iron and steel production. These areas can be seen as downstream production stages. Iron ore processing and iron and steel production often occur within a single production organisation. Therefore, a possible overall optimisation in handling environmental impacts and treating pollutants can be assumed. The secondary objective of the paper is to analytically assess the potential reuse of the produced waste in production processes. The article is based on the research results carried out in a selected metallurgical enterprise in the Czech Republic.

Planning and spatial management are very often associated with the best providing human needs that require adjustment to environmental conditions. Thus interpreted, the rational spatial management brings many benefits to the local community, often the price of it is the degradation of the environment. System solutions reduce the negative effects of the investment on the environment and society. As a part of that, an investment in the implementation of apply optimal solutions in terms of environmental and social protection are procedures for environmental impact assessments (EIA). The aim of this study was to determine the operations to minimize negative environmental impacts and methods of environmental compensation in EIA procedures in the planning and implementation of the linear investments in Poland on A2 highway from Stryków I to Konotopa section ‚E' case study. To determine the most effective mitigation methods the negative impact of the highway and activities in terms of environmental protection, simplified EIA was carried out. The most threatened elements of the natural and social environment were identified: groundwater, soil, human health, acoustic climate.

Opis:
This paper discusses logistics models of e-commerce implemented by Polish clothing companies. The author has conducted research on Polish clothing companies and logistics operators serving e-commerce branches, and here presents and compares these models. There are various logistics models of e-commerce, which differ from each other in organisation of deliveries, level of outsourcing, location for keeping stocks, level of logistics in customer service, and organisation of returns (goods returned by customers). The impact of the different e-commerce models on ecological, economic, and social priorities is then discussed.

Opis:
Climate change a phenomenon mainly caused by the high level of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission into the atmosphere of the Earth - makes human ecosystems vulnerable and is predicted to affect our everyday life in the near future. The increased intensity of storms, cyclones, drought and flooding; the greater magnitude and frequency of heat and cold waves and the continuous rise of the sea-level are likely to generate more geopolitical conflicts, especially in the most vulnerable regions of the planet. The three main categories of climate change impacts are classified as environmental, economic and social effects. The economic and social consequences of climate change are expected to significantly reduce the resilience of rural tourism regions and their capability to successfully respond to other possible critical events. Due to the impacts of natural disasters and extreme climatic events, global climate change affects European rural regions, too. The development of sustainable rural tourism requires the in-depth understanding of the ongoing processes and the development of tools that will serve the interest of tourism and local people alike.

Sustainable development refers to the development of a business in such a way that future generations will be able to satisfy the same needs. This article describes how sustainable development can be measured by economic performance and a positive impact on the natural environment. A general indicator of a company’s environmental impact is presented in the article. It can be determined, on the one hand, by a company’s environmental impact, and on the other hand, by savings in the use of natural resources, which is associated with savings in a financial sense. Therefore, it can be used to analyze the progress of sustainability in terms of environmental and economic performance. The case study provides an example of how emissions and energy factors can be analyzed to form a synthetic indicator and create a general indicator.

Opis:
W pracy wykorzystano model J2000-S udostępniony dzięki współpracy polsko-niemieckiej w ramach projektu SaLMaR. Modelowano zmiany strukturalne zlewni górnego Dunajca w trzech wariantach scenariusza użytkowania powierzchni terenu. Koncepcja scenariuszy powstała w wyniku analizy stanowisk interesariuszy wyrażonych w trakcie ankietyzacji wykonanej zgodnie z koncepcją DPSIR (ang. Driving forces, Pressures, States, Impacts, Responses), a także w następstwie własnych analiz trendów zmian zagospodarowania przestrzennego. Analizy te uwzględniały założenia gminne i powiatowe w odniesieniu do dokumentacji planistycznych.
The model J2000-S, used for the study purposes, was obtained within the framework of Polish German cooperation through the project SaLMaR (Sustainable Land and Water Management of Reservoir Catchments). Structural changes of upper Dunajec River basin were modeled based on three land use scenarios. The concept of scenarios is a consequence of analysis of stakeholders’ opinions expressed in questionnaires constructed pursuant to DPSIR concept (Driving forces, Pressures, States, Impacts, Responses); it is also a result of analysis on the trends in spatial development. Assumptions related to planning documents at commune and district level were also taken into account. The model J2000-S was calibrated and validated under the close supervision of German authors. Its use allowed to conclude that factors determining the quantity and quality state of surface water of basin are – next to forests and grasslands – urban areas and related infrastructure conditions. It was stated that the management of researched basin area is considered optimal at current level of economic development. The planned further expansion of urban areas will be disadvantageous, as it is revealed especially under extreme water level conditions. Hence, there should be reconsidered decisions applicable to emerging built-up areas, especially in regard to broadly defined hotel and tourist services.
