    The article above attempts to clarify relation between notions of sovereignty and reason of state. Both notions refer to the same matter – state. Author explicates an argument according to which state sovereignty in international relations depends on its amount of power while reason of state is a demand of permanent enlargement of state’s power. Implementation of reason of state leads to increase and enhancement of state sovereignty.

    From icon to punk portrait: The iconicity of the ruler image in the context of the transformation of the idea of the Serbian stateThe article describes transformation in the iconographic forms of power representations in Serbian culture as determinants of the evolution of the idea of the State and Serbian political culture. In visual terms, the key stages of their development correspond to the genealogical dynastic image of the religious character (loza) in the middle ages, and the “disenchanted” historical and representative portrait of a ruler that was subordinated to the national idea on the threshold of modernity. These forms not only participate in the establishment of political leadership and the creation of the field of power, but they also stimulate their change. The author examines these issues from the perspective of visual studies, which problematize the phenomenon of the performativity of the image. A particular variation of the performativity of the image is iconicity, understood as drafting and making present reality using esthetic and visual values. The aim of the analysis is to show how the local, namely Serbian, pattern of culture of power models the universal mechanisms of forming and legitimizing the authority of the State. Od ikony do punk portretu. Ikoniczność wizerunku władcy w kontekście przemian idei państwa serbskiegoArtykuł dotyczy przeobrażeń ikonograficznych form reprezentacji władzy w kulturze serbskiej jako wyznaczników ewolucji idei państwa oraz kultury politycznej Serbów. W wymiarze wizualnym kluczowym etapom ich rozwoju odpowiadają: w średniowieczu genealogiczny wizerunek dynastyczny o charakterze religijnym (loza), a u progu nowożytności „odczarowany” portret historyczny i reprezentacyjny władcy, podporządkowany idei narodowej. Formy te uczestniczą w stanowieniu przywództwa politycznego i wytwarzaniu pola władzy oraz stymulują ich zmianę. Autorka rozpatruje te zagadnienia z perspektywy visual studies, które problematyzują zjawisko performatywności obrazu. Jej szczególną odmianą jest ikoniczność, rozumiana jako stanowienie i uobecnianie rzeczywistości za pomocą wartości estetycznych, wizualnych. Celem analizy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób lokalny, tj. serbski wzór kultury władzy modeluje uniwersalne mechanizmy formowania i legitymizacji autorytetu państwa.

    This article establishes how ordinary people understand classical categories of political thought. By interpreting qualitative data, we show how contemporary Polish society conceives such fundamental concepts of political philosophy as ‘the individual,’ ‘society,’ and ‘the state.’ Finally, we point out the implications of our findings for political science and political sociology, especially in regard to popular political culture.

    Artykuł dotyczy globalnych stosunków sił w latach 1992-2016. Został oparty na raportach potęgo metrycznych publikowanych od kilku lat w Polsce. Na wstępie autor wyjaśnia pojęcie i istotę międzynarodowego układu sił, odróżniając go od systemu międzynarodowego i polityczno-terytorialnego status quo. Następnie przedstawiana jest potęgo metryczna analiza międzynarodowego układu sił po „zimnej wojnie”. Analizowane są stosunki sił pomiędzy państwami w zakresie potęgi ogólnej, wojskowej i geopolitycznej. Na przykładzie różnych wskaźników pomiarowych przedstawiane są stosunki sił we współczesnym świecie. Na ich podstawie sygnalizowane są zasadnicze tendencje w stosunkach międzynarodowych. Autor podkreśla przydatność metod empirycznych w badaniach międzynarodowego układu sił. Wskazuje na ich znaczenie w polityce i strategii bezpieczeństwa narodowego.
    The article concerns global relations of forces in the years 1992-2016. It was based on the power metrics reports published for several years in Poland. At the outset, the author explains the concept and essence of the international alignment of forces, distinguishing it from the international system and political status quo. Then, there is presented an empirical analysis of the international alignment of forces after the „cold war”. There are analyzed the relations of forces between states in the field of general, military and geopolitical power. The relations of forces in the contemporary world are presented on the example of various measurement indicators. On their basis, there are signaled the basic tendencies in international relations. The author emphasizes the usefulness of empirical methods in the study of the international alignment of forces. He points out their importance in national security policy and strategy.

    Persuasion of theorists of Ukrainian political opinion of Western Ukraine, publicism and position papers of socialistic aspiration parties for the purpose the analysis of forms and institutional bases of the state are investigated. Payment of the Ukrainian thinkers-socialists in the range of problems of classification of the political regimes, determination of their signs are analysed. The scientific contribution of theorists of Ukrainian political opinion of socialistic aspiration out to research of forms state government, principle of distribution of power and system of inhibitions and counterbalances between its branches, state-political institutes of country’s, parliament and government, problem of rights and freedoms of person, electoral process, local self-government leader are foundout. Political priorities of scientists and ideologists of Ukrainian organized socialism are investigated, their constructions of process are exposed.
    W artykule zaprezentowano badania dotyczące poglądów teoretyków myśli politycznej na Ukrainie Zachodniej, zaprezentowanych w publicystyce i dokumentach programowych socjalistycznych partii politycznych w celu analizy instytucjonalnych form państwa. Przeanalizowano wkład ukraińskich socjalistycznych myślicieli do sklasyfikowania problematyki reżimów politycznych i określenia ich zasadności. Zaakcentowano naukowy wniosek teoretyków ukraińskiej myśli politycznej o socjalistycznej orientacji w badanie form ustroju politycznego, podziału władzy, kontroli i równowagi między organamiwładzy, państwowych i politycznych instytucji prezydenta, parlamentu i rządu, kwestie praw człowieka, procesu wyborczego, samorządu terytorialnego.

    The article is devoted to the issue of the relationship between the secular power of the State and the spiritual power of the Church in the thought of two eminent scholars of the late medieval period – St. Thomas Aquinas and Marsilius of Padua. The author analyzes these generally opposite theories, paying special attention to the concept of grace and its relation to nature as the basis of the political thought of these thinkers, as well as the significant influence of Aristotle's ideas on both Aquinas and Marsilius.

    Opis:
    Artykuł poświęcono problemom terminologii, stosowanej dla określenia władcy i państwa w okresie rządów Mendoga. Podkreśla się w nim złożoność problemu oraz potrzebę interdyscyplinarnych badań nad nim. Przeanalizowana została terminologia, występująca w źródłach narracyjnych dla określenia Mendoga i jego państwa. Przeprowadzono także syntezę sformułowań odnoszący się do władzy i państwa oraz ukazano luki w terminologii wykorzystywanej dla charakterystyki monarchy w Wielkim Księstwie Litewskim na początkowym etapie jego istnienia.
