Opis:
The research on the topic of the dissertation was carried out within the coastal (southern) part of the Azov oblique dissected accumulative-denudated plain and the coastal strip of the coast of the Sea of Azov, as well as the valleys of the lower reaches of the Don and Kalmius rivers. The research area covered the modern territory of Taganrog and Rostov-on-Don cities and a suburban area up to 15-20 km away from the borders of these cities. According to the materials of the USSR soil map, as well as modern schemes of soil zoning in Russia, the study area covers the distribution area of ordinary chernozems and partially southern low-humus chernozems on loess rocks. The main zonal soil studied was ordinary chernozem. Ordinary warm chernozems with a short freezing period, belonging to the Azov-Ciscaucasian province of powerful and super-powerful chernozems, predominate in the soil cover of the Azov inclined plain, extending from the Donets Ridge to the shores of the Sea of Azov and the lower Don River.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to assess the effects of different doses of sewage sludge compost mixed with wheat straw on heavy metal content in Italian ryegrass and in soil. A two year experiment with the Italian ryegrass was set up in autumn 2012. The experimental design consisted of a control plot, a plot with NPK fertiliser and three plots with three different doses of municipal sewage sludge compost (5, 10 and 15 Mg of fresh matter·ha-1). Those different compost doses contained the amounts of Nitrogen equivalent to 60, 120 and 180 kg·N.ha-1. The two lower doses of compost were supplemented with nitrogen fertiliser so that the amount of this chemical element introduced to the soil of all plots with compost stood at 180 kg·ha-1. During 2013 and 2014 seasons the grass was cut three times a year after about a 30-day growing period. After dry mineralisation, the content of Zn, Cu, Ni, Pb and Cd in the plant samples was measured with the ICP-AES method. The fertilisers applied significantly diversified the content of chemical elements in the grass and in the soil. The highest dose of compost resulted in the highest concentration of Zn, Cu and Cd in the grass while the highest concentration of Ni and Pb was in the soil and the grass from the plot where the mid dose of compost had been applied. Cadmium concentration in the soil was the highest in the plot where the mid dose was applied. The experiment proved that compost made with sewage sludge and wheat straw is beneficial for plants.

Opis:
Contamination of soil and water by various heavy metals such as Cd, Pb, Ni, Cu, and Fe is increasing day by day as a result of different activities, such as industrialization and urbanization. Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), and Nickel (Ni) are examples of potential heavy metals that are neither essential elements nor have any role in the process of cell metabolism, but are easily absorbed and accumulated in different parts of a plant and living beings. This study was to investigate the translocation and bioaccumulation of heavy metals such as Pb, Ni, Cd, Cu, and Fe in Urtica dionica L and soil samples from 2 sites (uncontaminated – Koliq and contaminated – Kishnica in the Republic of Kosovo). The results revealed that in the contaminated site, the mean level of all the metals in soil and different parts (root, stalk, and leaf) of the plant were found to be significantly (p < 0.01) higher than the uncontaminated site. Multivariate analysis was used to determine the distribution of metals within the study area. The trace metal contents from different parts of these plants were determined by the use of AAS. The results revealed that Urtica dionica L. translocated high amounts of metals to its organs, especially to leaves, so that translocation factors were much higher than one (> 1). However, these concentrations of heavy metals in the soil and Urtica dionica L were higher than levels specified according to the standards in UK and Germany.

Opis:
This research aimed to determine the physicochemical characteristics and heavy metal concentrations of agricultural soils used for grape and wheat production in Morocco in the Mohammedia Benslimane area. The organic matter (OM) content ranged from 0.6% to 2.93%. The degree of total nitrogen was higher in the wheat plots than in the vine plots in the Mohammedia and Benslimane regions. Total nitrogen average rates ranged from 0.04 to 0.5% and from 0.07 to 0.8% in the vine and wheat plots. These results imply that the soil was silty clay and clay texture, neutral to slightly acidic at all stations. The P2O5 concentrations were 11.15 ppm and 68.14 ppm under the vine and the wheat plots, respectively, while the potassium concentration ranged from 33.1 to 287.9 ppm and from 26.9 to 184.75 ppm under the vine and the wheat plots, respectively. Furthermore, the concentrations of Cd at a few stations exceeded the standard value (2 ppm), reaching 10.375 ppm. The Pb and Zn concentrations were higher in vineyard plots than in wheat plots. The Pb and Zn concentrations were 20.22 ppm and 148.60 ppm, respectively. This study reports updated information on the states of eight stations in Mohammedia and Benslimane. However, further research is necessary to determine the pollution factors in local practice crops and naturally growing plants at these stations to assess their impact on livestock and humans.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of research on the use of sewage sludge from the municipal sewage treatment plant in Białystok for fertilization of urban lawns. To fertilize the ground two types of deposits were used: stabilized sludge after the dewatering process in the press and granular sludge after drying in the sludge dryer. Two doses of sludge were used – 5 and 10 kg/m2. Effective microorganisms (EM) were added to the test plots. Both doses of the applied sewage sludge contributed significantly to the growth of grass biomass. Aboveground biomass of the plants was significantly correlated with the concentration of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in the surface layer of the soil. The addition of EM to soil containing the dewatered sludge from the press reduced significantly the content of heavy metals in the soil, as opposed to the sludge in a form of granules with addition of EM, which contributed to the increase of their concentration in the soil.

The objective of this study was to analyze the content of heavy metals and arsenic in soil and cereal grains as well as to evaluate the possible human risk in the central region of Peru. The soil samples of corn and barley grains were collected from seven agricultural zones and the concentrations of Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn and As were determined with the method of atomic absorption flame spectrophotometry. PERMANOVA showed that the effect of the type of crop and the sampling zone significantly influence the concentrations of heavy metals and As in soil and corn and barley grains (p < 0.05). PCA for heavy metals and As in soil and grain samples of the cereals studied showed that the first two main components represented 81.03% and 94.77% of the total variance, respectively. Hazard Quotient (HQ) for ingestion was the most significant. The HQ values of Pb and As in crop soils indicated that detrimental health effects are unlikely (HQ < 1). The soil hazard index (HI) values of both crops did not exceed the threshold value of 1 (HI < 1). The carcinogenic risk level (CR) of As from ingestion of corn and barley crop soils contaminated by As was higher in children than in farmers and adults. The bioconcentration factor (BCF) of As was higher in barley grains than in corn grains. The THQ of As exceeded the target value of 1 in 100% of the barley and corn sampling sites. The RC of As in grains exceeded the acceptable risk level of 10–6 in all sampling zones.

The total forms of cadmium were determined in dry matter of perennial ryegrass with the use of ASA method. The contents of these elements were higher in the fertilized variants as compared to the control. No significant differences were found among the contents of investigated elements compared in plants treated with different multicomponent fertilizers. The increasing rates of nitrogen decreased soil pH and, thereby, enhanced the availability and concentration of heavy metals in perennial ryegrass.

Contamination generated by dumps is an environmental problem because the soils around the dumps are used for the cultivation of agricultural products and pastures, and could constitute a threat to human health. The contamination index and ecological risk potential for heavy metals in agricultural soils surrounding the solid waste dumps in Agua de las Vírgenes (AV) and El Eden (ED) in Huancayo were evaluated. The concentration of heavy metals in the soils was measured using an inductively coupled optical emission spectrophotometer. The average concentration of As, Cd, Cr, Pb, Cu, Fe and Zn in the soils was 25.77, 1.03, 6.09, 112.07, 48.52, 53733.33 and 349.10 mg/kg in AV and 14.35, 0.28, 2.85, 123.01, 57.47, 36137.50 and 414.31 mg/kg in ED respectively. The mean values of the contamination factor for As determined a very high soil contamination status at both sites. The order of mean Igeo values was As> Cd> Pb> Zn> Cu> Fe> Cr. The soils are strongly enriched with As and Cd. The highest risk index was for Cd, with a higher contribution to the overall potential risk index. The principal component analysis explained that 71% of the data set and the identified sources of heavy metals are the varied composition of wastes in general and crop irrigation with wastewater. In general, agricultural soils are characterized for a level of ecological risk that varies from high to very high. Among the measured heavy metals As, Cd and Pb pose significant health risks. Continuous monitoring of the level of contamination of soils affected by dump leachate and wastewater irrigation is suggested.

The aim of the article was to determine the content of heavy metals (lead) in soils and plants in areas heavily degraded by mining and processing industries. The study was conducted in the area of the municipality of Trzebinia, in the western part of the Małopolska province. Altogether 83 research areas were designated (one area of 25 m2 ) from which the plant material and soil samples were taken from the levels of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm. The analysis of soil material was based on the determination of granulometric composition of the soil with the use of the Casagrande method modified by Prószyński [according to the industry standard (BN-78/9180-11), soil reaction in 1M KCl and in water with the use of the potentiometric method, electrolytic conductivity of the soil with the use of the conductometric method, content of organic matter in soil by its annealing using the modified Tiurin method, the total Pb content in the soil using the FAA method. The analysis of plant material was based on the determination of the total content of Pb in plants using the atomic absorption spectrometry. It was found that the mean lead content in the soil for the municipality exceeded the permissible concentrations, stated in national regulations (Journal of Laws 2002), of this element for farmlands. The research conducted on fallows of Trzebinia indicated a positive direction of the relationship between the lead content in the soil layer of 0-20cm and the content of the metal in plants present there. The results of the lead content in the plant material did not exceed the permissible content of the element in animal feed proposed by IUNG (Kabata-Pendias et al. 1993).

The paper presents the results of lead, zinc, chromium and iron contents in potato tubers and in soil in the municipality Trzebinia. An analysis of suitability for consumption of potatoes cultivated in the site was done. The analysis included the potato peel and flesh. Sample plants were collected during their consumption maturity in August 2008. The standard s of the European Communities Committee for the lead has been exceeded. Peeled potato tubers according to the norms JUNG were not suitable for consumption because of the high content of zinc and lead. The zinc content also did not allow its industrial and feeding use. The flesh of potatoes by the standards JUNG may be, in terms of Pb and Zn content, used for consumption, feeding and for industrial applications. There was no relationship between the content of heavy meta is in soil and in potato tuber. The content of iron in the tested flesh reflected the physiological content.

This paper presents a voltammetric analysis of soil. It shows that the voltammetry is a useful method for the assessment of soil contaminated with heavy metal ions. There are two major problems with voltammetry analysis: the diffusion coefficient and the measurement system. Suggestions of the solution of these problems and the results obtained by the author are also presented.
Artykuł przedstawia możliwości zastosowania metody woltampero-metrycznej do badania stopnia zanieczyszczenia gleb metalami ciężkimi. W niniejszym artykule zostało przedstawione zarówno krótkie studium literaturowe, propozycja rozwiązania problemów występujących podczas pomiarów, jak i własne wyniki badań autorki.

The paper verified the hypothesis of the existence of the correlation between the content of zinc in soils and plants in the municipality of Trzebinia that is in the area which is highly degraded as a result of long term activity of mining and processing of local raw materials. In order to achieve the above, the total metal content in plant and soil material as well as the selected physicochemical properties of soil such as pH, electrolytic conductivity, organic matter content and granulometric composition were determined. 664 soil material samples and 332 plant material samples were collected in years 2010-2012 from 83 research plots located in fallow lands of the town of Trzebinia and in 10 village councils of the municipality. The results obtained of zinc content do not confirm the correlation between soil and plant. The disclosed concentration of the element is in line with indications of permitted levels of metal content in plants proposed by IUNG, which allows the use of plant material as animal feed. The mean content of zinc in the soils of the municipality is higher than the permitted level of national regulations. The claim that the soil of the municipality is contaminated with the element is eligible.
