Opis:
This research has been inspired by security concerns due to the recent increase in the terrorist threat to gas and crude oil transportation around the world, especially in regions that are of significant value for the energy supplies. Computational mechanics methods will be used in this research to apply shock wave analysis for possible damage assessment of the affected pipelines. These methods may be also used for pipelines at power plants (especially nuclear), which are usually placed high on the homeland security priority list. The main goal of this research is focused on establishing effective simulation methodology to study the influence of shock waves (caused by explosion) on pipeline systems (buried, on surface, or underwater) to ensure their security. This study is primarily focused on the behaviour of a pipeline subjected to the shock wave produced by the detonation of highly explosive (HE) materials. The results of this study will primarily allow for analysis of the blast wave propagation and the resulting damage inflicted by the pipeline. Outcomes of this research are important in preventing damage progression of pipelines under the blast loading. This data will also be used to develop improved design guidelines for safer and less vulnerable pipelines. The study allows for determining a type of structure of the high energy absorbing protective system.

Opis:
Complex simulation systems are often used in order to enhance the safety level on newly designed navigation areas and to facilitate their verification process. The application of these systems supersedes older methods based on manoeuvring basins, wherein models minified in particular scales were used. Modern methods are definitely cheaper and require less work. The paper presents the method of assessment of the compatibility of a ship simulation model with its real counterpart. Access to the simulator’s components responsible for creating and editing bodies of water as well as ship models gives the possibility of their verification. Using cutting-edge navigation systems such as inertial systems, weather stations and GPS gives the possibility of obtaining indispensable information about ship’s behaviour under certain hydro-meteorological conditions.

Opis:
Computer simulation, as a powerful scientific and engineering tool, is increasingly used to solve a wide range of issues within the enterprise logistics processes. This trend is mainly due to the fact that the computer simulation method offers a whole range of benefits for enterprise logistics e.g. saving time, space and finance. The use of computer simulation in logistics, however, still has certain limitations that handicap it and do not allow it to be more operationally exploited. The main reason is that the creation of models of different logistics processes is exacting on the skills and knowledge in this area. The factors as the difficulty of creating new and modifying existing models or repeating simulation experiments complicate the more frequent application of computer simulation models in logistics. For this reason, it is necessary to look for a way to simplify and make the issue available to a larger circle of users.

Opis:
As proved in the conducted analyses, one of the factors, which, to a large degree, exerts a negative influence on flight safety, is a potential possibility of a collision of an aircraft with birds, in particular at an airfield or in its vicinity [12, 16]. Various parts of an aircraft are subjected to damage. It appears that damage to the engine as well as penetration of the windshield is extremely dangerous. The consequence of a bird falling into the engine can be engine shutting down [6, 21], whereas penetrating the canopy can cause a serious injury to the pilot, making him unable to continue piloting an aircraft. The analysis of the literature of the object of study [7] shows that the most damage of the windshield occurs in the category of aircraft and small helicopters, whose certification requirements were not specified in this case [1, 19]. It should be remembered that apart from the compulsory experimental strength tests, conducted in laboratory conditions in order to meet certification requirements, there exist various theoretical methods, which are realized based on proper mathematical modelling of the strike event [5, 10]. Therefore, due to lack of certification requirements for the category of normal aeroplanes and small helicopters and a high degree of damage, especially to the cockpit canopy, it seems justified to conduct simulation of the strike impact by means of proper software. In order to perform the modelling in question, it is necessary to select a proper bird model and a suitable simulation method, including appropriate software. Based on the available literature devoted to the subject, there are several methods of modelling a bird shape. Investigations exploit various geometrical figures in order to model the bird shape, the most common one being a cylinder, an ellipsoid and a cylinder with hexagonal endings [10]. The aim of this article is to analyse the selected methods in order to choose one of them for further research connected with the simulation of bird-strike events into a cockpit windshield of selected aircraft.

Opis:
Due to the increasing requirements of 5-axis machined products, collision simulation is not enough to ensure final quality. Hence, machining simulation models have been developed and commercialized in the last years. Mechanistic (semiempirical) models give approximate estimations of cutting forces during a whole tool path and, even not being very accurate, they are very useful to detect critical tool path steps, adapt cutting parameters and avoid machine overload. The main problem of most of these models is the fact that they work isolated from CAM programs and so, all the required information must be manually imported and refreshed. This paper presents the integration of an open programmed mechanistic model into commercial CAM software. CAM simulates material removal process, while the model calculates and plots cutting efforts, and power. The whole simulation is performed into CAM environment and any kind of change in the process (tool, material, tool path, cutting speed, etc.) is automatically transferred to the mechanistic model. In the end, the user gets a CNC code that ensures not only collision avoidance, but also adequate process conditions.

Opis:
The intended aim of studies on the modelling of a bullet interacting with a barrel is to generale a virtual, computer-based model, experimentally verified for some selected mating conditions, and to become able to predict -with strong probability - processes and phenomena that take place within a system with imperfections. In the case under consideration the problem of contact between the barrel and the bullet has been described with the calculation method based on the penalty function. Calculations were made using the so-called direct-integration procedurę, colloquially called the ,,explicit integration ". Preliminary analysis has been carried out on the effect of the shift of the centre ofmass of the bullet moving in the barrel. Simulation included the bullet displacement along the barrel's axis, with the assumed positions of the centre ofmass -5% and +5% as measured from the bottom and referred to the initial model (0%). Results ofnumerical calculations suggest the effect of shift of the bullet's centre of mass, which -when exposed to complex states of loading - experiences oscillating movements of the bottom and the tip. Additionally, this analysis proves that there is a complex state of stress due to compression, torsion, and bending of the bullet while interacting with the inner part of the barrel. Numerical solutions may support the analytically approached solving of such mechanical system. They may also offer more precise determination of, e.g. initial and boundary conditions for the bullet 's free flight, which is of great significance to the accuracy of fire, and therefore, to the weapons effectiveness.

The article presents an analysis of stresses in the current tool system of the die during the implementation of the third forging operation of the screw M12 class 10.9 with cylinder head and hexagonal socket. It was assumed that the level of negative cracking due to stress can be reduced by using a mounting interference between the die and the tube blank. Due to the design of the tool system value of the die, the interference value cannot be too large. Therefore, an analysis of the influence of the interference between the die and the tube blank in a die tool system on the value and distribution of stresses in the individual components. An analysis of the assembly stresses and the stresses occurring during the process of deformation of the shaped head of the screw was done. The calculations were performed using a commercial software package MARC / Mentat.

In order to increase the efficiency of jet engines hard to machine nickel-based and titanium-based alloys are in common use for aero engine components such as blades and blade integrated disks (BLISK). Electrochemical Machining (ECM) provides an economical and effective method for machining high strength and heat-resistant materials into complex shapes with high material removal rate without tool wear and without inducing residual stress. This article presents the physical and mathematical models of electrochemical shaping used in the manufacture of turbine engine parts. The modelling is based on the assumption that the multi-phase mixture filling the gap is treated as two-phase quasi-homogenous medium. The model describes the workpiece shape evolution in time, distribution the local gap size, flow parameters such as the static pressure and the velocity, temperature and void fraction as result of gas generation. The major features of the numerical computer program are briefly described with a selected example of machining a typical turbine blade. The results of computer simulation of effects of setting parameters ECM on accuracy-machined profile are discussed. The improvement of accuracy has been reached by using described sequence of ECM and Pulse ECM processes.

Modelling is a technique that can be used in the development and sizing of networks. It involves building a mathematical representation of a physical system and is often computer based, allowing system behaviour to be investigated based on the variation of key parameters. This pa- per will describe some applicable tools for network modelling and consider a range of applications. Whilst modelling and simulation tools are used extensively to design and size ICT solutions, each tool tends to be targeted at a specific range of applications and a specific user community. It is shown that different tools expect different levels of expertise from their user communities. The benefits of using such tools are described, as are some of their limitations. Modelling and simulation provide a cheaper and faster approach to trying new ideas than building prototypes or test networks. They provide a valuable guide to designing networks and can predict operational outcomes.

Critical Infrastructure (CI) Preparedness and Resilience modelling, simulation & analysis (MS&A) is a major issue in CI protection (CIP) and crisis management. This is due to the rapid growth of the inference of the smart complex systems in the modern society activities. The concept of resilience in CIP is not yet clearly defined. However, “resilience” is often used as a measure of the system good behaviour facing a given threat. Under a given threat, a CI may evolve within a set of well-defined operating phases. Subsequently, the failure of the CI to provide the expected service will depend not only on the threat nature but also on the operating phase. A tentative probabilistic model is proposed describing the robustness and the resilience of a well-defined infrastructure facing a given threat.
