The article introduces scientific considerations concerning the energetic nature and origin of rhythm subliminal potential in a spoken text as well as the mechanisms of its impact on the recipient. The paper advances the idea that rhythm energetics and its subliminal potential is based on such postulates: (1) rhythm is generated in the speaker’s psyche at the levels of his/her unconscious (or existential being) and subconscious (or mental and transcendental beings) spheres; (2) the text rhythmic system has a definite emotional and pragmatic potentials that realize a latent manipulative and subliminal influence; (3) generation of the spoken text tempo-rhythm is carried out by means of integrating micro-rhythms of all levels of the speaker’s inner speech into the internal macro-rhythm, which is materialized in the form of an outer tempo-rhythm as a complex means of achieving a subliminal effect of speech. The article also outlines the prospects of studying a subliminal nature of rhythm.

The aim of the present article is to provide a review and a critical assessment of current approaches to linguistic rhythm. At the perceptual level, languages are perceived to fall into three rhythmic groups: stress-timed, syllable-timed, and mora-timed. In stress-timed languages, stressed syllables are thought to occur at regular intervals of time, whereas in syllable-timed and mora-timed languages, syllables and moras are isochronous. Though numerous phonetic studies failed to confirm the objective existence of isochrony, there is ample evidence that rhythm plays a central role in language processing and that different languages have different underlying rhythmic structure. We argue that phonetically-based models which treat rhythm as an emergent property are insufficient to account for cross-linguistic variation and that the intuitive notion of rhythm should be explicitly modelled by drawing upon the concepts of a phonological theory.

In a sample of 27 speakers of Scottish Standard English two notoriously variable consonantal features are investigated: the contrast of /m/ and /w/ and non-prevocalic /r/, the latter both in terms of its presence or absence and the phonetic form it takes, if present. The pattern of realisation of non-prevocalic /r/ largely confirms previously reported findings. But there are a number of surprising results regarding the merger of /m/ and /w/ and the loss of non-prevocalic /r/: While the former is more likely to happen in younger speakers and females, the latter seems more likely in older speakers and males. This is suggestive of change in progress leading to a loss of the /m/ - /w/ contrast, while the variation found in non-prevocalic /r/ follows an almost inverse sociolinguistic pattern that does not suggest any such change and is additionally largely explicable in language-internal terms. One phenomenon requiring further investigation is the curious effect direct contact with Southern English accents seems to have on non-prevocalic /r/: innovation on the structural level (i.e. loss) and conservatism on the realisational level (i.e. increased incidence of [r] and [r]) appear to be conditioned by the same sociolinguistic factors.

Artykuł Marka Hendrykowskiego zawiera analizę i interpretację poetyki jednego z wczesnych filmów Zbigniewa Rybczyńskiego Święto (1976). Posługując się metodą close reading, autor przeprowadza rekonstrukcję związków między sferą formy a sferą treści tego utworu, wskazując na doniosłą funkcję jego nadorganizacji estetycznej i znaczenie jej poszczególnych elementów, zwłaszcza scenografii, muzyki, światła, barwy i rytmu. W zakończeniu Hendrykowski pisze: Uderzającą cechą „Święta” (…) jest dążenie do tego, by w sposób możliwie kompleksowy i pełny opisać wartości takie jak przestrzeń i czas, przy próbie zdefiniowania własnego miejsca w świecie. Właściwym obiektem artystycznej fascynacji Rybczyńskiego nie jest jakikolwiek pojedynczy przedmiot-znak czy ich dowolnie rozbudowany na ekranie zestaw (zbiór), lecz właśnie struktura bycia człowieka w świecie.
Marek Hendrykowski’s article contains an analysis and interpretation of the poetics of one of the early films by Zbigniew Rybczyński - Holiday (Święto 1976). Using the close reading method, the author carries out the reconstruction of the relationships between the sphere of form and the sphere of the content of this work, pointing to the important function of its aesthetic over-organization and the significance of its particular elements, especially set design, music, light, colour and rhythm. In conclusion, Hendrykowski writes: The striking feature of the “Holiday” (...) is director’s striving for a complex and complete, as far as possible, description of the values such as time and space, whilst trying to define one’s own place in the world. The proper object of Rybczyński’s artistic fascination is not any single object-sign or their freely developed set (collection) on the screen, but the structure of being human in the world.

The text is a synthetic description of Edward Pasewicz’s poetic work, which is included within the “plan for a somatic criticism.” The key operational concept used to describe this poetry is rhythm, which spreads out on all the levels of expression like a theme in a story and makes the texts of every poet unique and original. The rhythm is closely linked with the process of listening and with the body itself, which generates it. Following Charlers Berstein, the author performs an act of Close Listening, attempting to point out the relations between rhythm, the sphere of sound in Pasewicz’s poetic texts, and a speaking subject.

The subject of this article is musicality in selected reportages and one poem by Ryszard Kapuściński. In the introduction there are few words about history of coexistence between music and literature. I stick to the point of view represented by Michał Głowiński, based on his article: „Literary music – musicality of literature”. Then I do a detailed analysis of selected works, where the musicality is clearly visible. The first of these reportages – Wymarsz piątej kolumny – treats about two German women looking for their home after war. Kapuściński presents them with accompaniment of unpleasant, war music, which is the main substance in his reportage. Lumumba is a text about the African leader Patrice Lumumba. He became famous, because he fought with the Belgian regime. In this reportage the musicality is visible in a description of a reconstruction of the recording, in which the politician gives a speech. I also describe a poem about Louis Armstrong trumpet. This poem tells about Kapuściński’s impressions after the Armstrong concert in Chartum in 1960. At the end of my article, I sum up my interpretations.

The paper presents the author’s personal approach towards selected aspects of manifestation of one of the coordination abilities, namely rhythmization. Rhythm creates, orders and shapes spatial and temporal relationships. In motor action its impulse concentrates energy and adjusts it to the form of the movement. It is manifested in the form of timing. Timing controls rhythm, and rhythm develops timing. Rhythm maintains energy expenditure in a given direction and includes pulsating elements of imbalance of this state into it, thus creating cohesion of movement. Rhythm is the key to coordination functions. Also a well selected rhythm finally leads to coherent formation of fluent balance of movement. Besides, harmony serves cohesion and not the other way round. Cohesion. Comprehensive sense of rhythm leads to showing cohesion through orientation and as a result through diversifying integration. The concept of rhythm must be an individual scaffolding of the form of movement, thus becoming an anatomy of a motor action. Eventually, motor action is formed when it is possible to integrate the function and structure in the form of the technique of movement in such a manner that the form of movement presented constitutes a solution to the problem. Energy administered in time and space. Timing, the key competence of rhythmic formation of movement, determines its precision. Proper energy in time and point in space translates into economic control and fully dosed velocity of movement. Measure and tempo. To achieve free formation of motor activity through rhythm of stillness and movement, tempo sets an impulse as a drive to be used in determination of measure, and subsequently its maintenance. Thanks to the measure and pace, “learning through the rhythm” becomes a sensible principle in acquisition and use of movement as such, and not only formation of the movement with music. Fascination with balance in form. Fascination with balance in an alternating game between variants of the form and permanence of the essence is through openness (freedom) and limitation (safety) of the space still arranged again. The measurable nature (or not) of balance (or not) between safety (orientation) and freedom (formation) increases or decreases the intensity of their attractiveness. Rhythm as a personality. In the type of links and the manner of connecting the elements of fluidity a specific peculiarity of the fascinating rhythm is crystallized as a motor peculiarity. And finally: The importance of rhythm convinces [us] first through unanimity in orientation marked with function, subsequently by diversification in an organized combination of structure and finally also through creative integration to the task accentuated by situations and adjusting the technical form to its solution.

The article examines one of the formal parameters of the primary speech genres. The material of the study were Russian spoken dialogues. The author shows the importance of brief reactive statements as a signal of certain communicative actions of the speaker. Brief responses correct interaction of the communicants, indicating the actual com- munication line and ensuring mutual adaptation of the communicants to changing communication conditions. The rhythmical parameter of spoken dialogue is perceived directly and is a way to design a strategy of communication coordination.

My point in the present article is to come back once again to the question that seems to me fundamental both for the theoretical reflection and for the interpretative practice of literary discourses. This is certainly the case in my studies and articles. As the title of my article announces, in the present article I intend to discuss the confrontation between a traditional approach, proposed at the end of the nineteenth century by Maksymilian Kawczyński, and the modern approach of Henri Meschonnic’s theory of the rhythm-sense-subject.

Dalekie, archaiczne cywilizacje mają swoją symboliczną moc. W hinduskiej sztuce stanu Kerala zachwyca bogactwo drewnianej, tradycyjnej architektury powstałej na tle niezwykłego nadmorskiego krajobrazu. Tam przez wieki rozwinęło się wielokulturowe społeczeństwo Indian, tworząc mozaikę kulturową o  nigdzie niespotykanym bogactwie. Poniższa próba syntezy naturalnych i kulturowych zasobów architektonicznych i krajobrazowych oparta została na dwu pojęciach: rytmu i symetrii. Rytm w sztuce Kerali łączy tak pozornie dalekie: taniec i zdobnictwo, codzienną pracę i następstwo świąt, zdobienie ciała i podziały ogrodzenia. Z kolei symetria osi kompozycyjnych dominuje w architekturze budynków, sprowadza się do równowagi planu i sylwet. Ponad tym rytm boskich i ludzkich postaci. Tak więc studiując poniższe rozważania, na chwilę zapamiętajmy się w porządku, który od tysiąca lat cechuje Indie.
The power of distant, ancient civilizations is often expressed symbolically. In the art of Kerala, the state in South India, the variety of wooden architecture and the landscape is enchanting. Against this background was developed the multicultural Indian society. There are two terms which describe in synthetic way the nature and kulture of Kerala. The rhythm is what joins the dance and ornamentation, everyday life and hardships, but also feasts, decoration of the neck and the fence of the building. The symmetry of composition in architecture is visible in the form of god or human in Indian art. So let us become absorbed in order which is typical for India since ages.

The perennial question as to how perceived otherness in speech projects into listener assessment of one’s personality has been systematically investigated within the field of foreign accentedness, vocal communication of affective states and vocal stereotyping. In the present study, we aimed at exploring non-native listeners’ capacity to respond to differences in natural and modified native speech, particularly whether the manipulation of temporal structure in both stressed and unstressed syllables gives rise to any changes in the perception of the speaker’s personality. The respondents’ intuitive judgements were captured in the domain of the ‘nervousness category’ taken from the five-factor model of personality. Our results indicate an effect of temporal modifications on the listeners’ judgements. Analysis of variance for repeated measures confirmed a highly significant shift of personality evaluations towards the undesired traits (e.g., nervousness, anxiety, querulousness). Several interesting interactions with the semantic contents of the utterances and with the intrinsic qualities of the speakers’ voices were also found. We argue that the effects of accented speech go beyond conscious willingness to accept “otherness” and suggest a method for studying them.

The purpose of this study was to determine how global effort affects the rhythm of multi-joint coordination in the global task. We wanted to examine how this specific kind of fatigue impacts sense of rhythm. Methods: In this study, fourteen non-professsional runners performed two effort trials of different intensity, where speed was set individually according to the speed of running when participants reached lactate threshold. Before and after each effort trial they had to perform the rhythm test. Results: Two-way analysis of variance ANOVA did not reveal significant differences among the variables of pre- and post-effort rhythm test. It is suggested that these results are supported by the application of different movement strategies to compensate for fatigue, and possible motor learning effect of simple timing performance. Conclusions: In our opinion the training workout routine should include cyclic technical exercises after fatigue. Not only to develop and improve energetics of movement, but also to learn and perfect different movement patterns and develop novel movement strategies.

The article presents the linguistic games in selected poems by Małgorzata Strzałkowska. The subject of the research were 300 works from ten volumes that have been published over the last twenty-five years. The text examines these verbal games, which are mainly based on the sound layer of the utterance, i.e. sounds / sounds, onomatopoeia, rhymes, and rhythm. It was found that Strzałkowska’s poems can be ready-made lesson plans that can be used in Polish lessons, in phonetics, in voice emission as well as during speech diagnosis or therapy.

Wprowadzenie. Przedmiotem opracowania jest aktywność ruchowa dziecka w szeroko pojętej przestrzeni edukacji muzycznej. Aktywność, o której mowa, jest wywoływana poprzez percepcję muzyki, w tym przede wszystkim – rytmu muzycznego. Wobec postulatów formułowanych przez pedagogów powszechnej edukacji muzycznej autorka pragnie wyrazić własną opinię w debacie prowadzonej od wielu lat na temat marginalizacji muzyki w polskim systemie oświaty. Autorka identyfikuje się z przekonaniem wyrażonym przez Małgorzatę Suświłło, że „powierzchowna kosmetyka dokonująca się” co jakiś czas w szkolnictwie polskim, zwłaszcza w kolejnych reformach programowych, „nie gwarantuje pełni sukcesu w tym zakresie. Jedną z przyczyn jest […] brak powiązania zmian programowych, szczególnie na początkowym etapie edukacyjnym, z wynikami badań nad edukacją i rozwojem dziecka” ( Suświłło 2009, ss. 106-107). Cel. Celem opracowania jest zwrócenie uwagi na szczególną wartość edukacyjną elementów rytmiki w rozwoju dziecka. Metody: Autorka dokonała analizy jakościowej źródeł, literatury przedmiotu oraz doświadczeń osobistych wynikających z ponaddwudziestoletniej współpracy z poznańskimi placówkami oświatowymi i opiekuńczymi. Wyniki: Wskazano walory zastosowania elementów ruchu z muzyką dla wspierania rozwoju dziecka i przedstawiono powody, dla których rytmika jawi się jako naturalna forma aktywności człowieka. Wnioski: Propozycje przemodelowania sposobu postrzegania edukacji z zastosowaniem elementów ruchu z muzyką w polskim systemie kształcenia.
Introduction. The subject of the study is the child’s physical activity in the space of music education. The activity in question is triggered by the perception of music, especially the perception of musical rhythm. Following the postulates of educators of music education, the author wishes to express her own voice in the long-held debate on the marginalization of music in the Polish education system, because she identifi es with the belief expressed by Małgorzata Suświłło that „in Polish education”, especially in the area of subsequent curriculum reforms, „ does not guarantee full success in this respect. One of the reasons is [...] the lack of correlation between program changes, especially at the initial stage of education, with the results of research on the education and development of a child”. Aim. The aim of the study is to draw attention to the special value of educating the elements of rhythm in the process of supporting the child’s development. Methods. The author has made a qualitative analysis of the sources, literature on the subject, and personal experiences resulting from over twenty years of cooperation with educational and care institutions in Poznań. Results. The advantages of using elements of movement with music in the process of supporting a child’s development were indicated, and the reasons why rhythmics appear as a natural form of human activity are presented. Conclusion. The conclusions refer to the proposal to remodel the perception of education with the use of elements of movement with music in the Polish education system.
