In Poland, since 1985 when the matura exam in mathematics was no longer compulsory, low-level of math skills and poor learning results have been constantly talked about. The academic community warned that young people were massively avoiding the technical, mathematical fields of study and fields with mathematics as a compulsory subject. We are seeing a constantly decreasing level of mathematical knowledge of first-year students, and sometimes even their ignorance of the elementary issues, basic concepts or an awkwardness in performing calculations. The situation would radically change after the reintroduction of the compulsory matura exam in mathematics in 2010. This article presents the results of the evaluation of the mathematical competence of students (who were obliged to pass the matura exam in mathematics). The evaluation was carried out every year at the beginning of the first year of the economic undergraduate studies during 2012-2014. We have analyzed the level of mathematical competence in the area of knowledge and skills over the subsequent years as well as the knowledge of selected content from the core curriculum of mathematics taught in upper-secondary schools.

Opis:
The main aim of the paper is to find out the impact of financial literacy on the acceptance of insurance fraud on the sample of 363 respondents in the Slovak republic. This study shows the results of the questionnaire monitoring of the level of financial literacy of respondents, acceptance rate of insurance fraud models and their mutual influence. The results of the theses indicates that the financial literacy is not the main factor influencing the acceptance of insurance fraud.

The result of the study is generally neutral position of the client to the insurance sector in the Slovak Republic.

The present paper attempts to establish the motives behind baby‑naming trends and parents’ choices in the recent years (2018–2021). It also aims to present the repertoire of the names of children aged 0–2 collected by means of a questionnaire created for the purposes of this research study. The repertoires of female and male children’s names were compared with those of their parents’, which allowed for determining differences and presenting the changes in naming trends over the two generations. The questionnaire created at the platform https://www.interankiety.pl was widespread in Facebook groups focusing on pregnancy, labour and maternity. It was active from the 18th November to the 6th December 2020. A semantic and quantitative analysis showed that the collected material reflects the current fashion in naming: the most popular onyms in the repertoire of names from the parents’ generation, Łukasz and Anna, do not occur in that of children’s names. Conversely, the most popular children’s names, Jan and Zuzanna, were not recorded in the collection of parents’ names. The materialattests to the growing popularity of multiple names and an increasing variety of onyms, which is corroborated by a large number of individual names in the analysed corpus. Parents’ responses concerning naming motivations show that subjectively interpreted aesthetic considerations dominate (65%), followed by the combination of first names and the last name (34%). The third most popular factor was the possibility of shortening names and creating diminutives (31%). Other responses to the closed questions and many extensive answers to the open questions prove that baby‑naming is very important to the modern parent. Parents’ motivations are complex and multifaceted, significantly different from the Old Polish naming practices, as shown by the analysed data.

Approaches investigating cancer patients’ quality of life have been conducted intensely but most approaches either focusing on the quality of life analysis of patients living in the same country or suffering from the same cancer type. The aim of this study was to compare cancer patients’ quality of life in Hungary and Germany. A self - developed questionnaire was distributed in 26 community pharmacies and 4 hospitals in Hungary and Germany from August 2013 to October 2014. As quality of life is a subjective parameter, the patients were asked to make a cross on a scale of 1 to 100. Patients were screened by hospital and pharmacy staff by application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The non-parametric Mann–Whitney and Wilcoxon W-test methods were used to analyze differences in the mean of estimated quality of life between Hungary and Germany. A difference (p = 0.043) in the quality of life mean between Hungarian (65.92 ± 19.25) and German (57.35 ± 23.45) cancer patients was observed. The evaluated median of estimated quality of life differed in Hungary (70) and Germany (60). The interquartile ranges of both compared groups were 30. The result is not in accordance with the general quality of life index of the whole population in Hungary and Germany. There seem to be determining factors which influence the quality of life assessment of cancer patients, such as social relationships, the relation to individual standards and varying illness perceptions in different countries.

The paper reflects the real needs and priorities within foreign language teaching at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CULS), which include the reduction of the lecturer´s direct teaching load and the use of modern ICT technologies within e-learning courses offered to students of all forms of studies. For the purposes of the research, the e-learning Business English course was developed. The objective of the research was to find out students´ opinion on e-learning based on the frequencies of their responses and on their qualitative signs. The research was conducted in accordance with the long-term aim of the CULS Prague, as well as in accordance with the language policy of the European Union, with the national policy of language education and with the long-term aims of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.

Wstęp Wraz z większą popularnością i dostępnością szkoleń symulatorowych wykorzystywanych do treningu pilotów zaobserwowano pojawianie się licznych efektów ubocznych tej technologii. Objawy choroby symulatorowej są zbliżone do dolegliwości związanych z chorobą lokomocyjną – m.in. zawroty głowy, wymioty, a także dezorientacja przestrzenna oraz ograniczenie zdolności koncentracji. Zależą one jednak od indywidualnych predyspozycji użytkowników symulatorów. Materiał i metody Celem pracy była ocena prawdopodobieństwa wystąpienia choroby symulatorowej podczas ćwiczeń w wirtualnej rzeczywistości oraz jej wpływu na efektywność szkolenia. Próba badawcza liczyła 32 wojskowych i 16 cywilnych pilotów różnych typów statków powietrznych. W celu subiektywnej oceny stanu psychofizycznego pilotów wykorzystano ankietę wzorowaną na Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ). Wyniki Wyodrębniono 4 główne czynniki wpływające na możliwość wystąpienia choroby symulatorowej: wiek badanej osoby, zróżnicowanie misji, rodzaj statku powietrznego i podatność na chorobę lokomocyjną. Wnioski W związku z indywidualnymi predyspozycjami badanych pilotów określenie ryzyka wystąpienia choroby symulatorowej wydaje się trudne. Istnieją jednak czynniki, które zwiększają prawdopodobieństwo zachorowania – przeziębienie, spożywane leki, niedobór snu i ogólne zmęczenie. Niepokojący jest brak wiedzy na temat choroby symulatorowej wśród pilotów. Warto zatem zastanowić się nad możliwościami edukacji tej grupy zawodowej w tym zakresie, przede wszystkim w celu uzyskiwania lepszych wyników w sesjach symulatorowych, w sytuacji łatwego dostępu do wirtualnej rzeczywistości. Background With the rise in popularity and availability of simulators for the aircraft training of pilots, numerous side effects of that technology have been noted among their users. The symptoms of simulator sickness are similar to the symptoms of motion sickness. Dizziness, nausea, as well as spatial disorientation and a limited capacity for concentration may be observed. However, those symptoms depend on individual user’s predispositions. Material and Methods The aim of the research was to assess the probability of occurrence of simulator sickness during exercises in virtual reality, and its impact on the effectiveness of training. Thirty two military and 16 civilian pilots of various types of aircraft took part in the research. For the subjective assessment of the psychophysical condition of the pilots, a questionnaire based on Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) was used. Results Four main factors that are associated with the prevalence of simulator sickness have been identified, i.e., age, a variety of missions, a type of aircraft and susceptibility to motion sickness. Conclusions Due to the individual characteristics of each person, determining the risk of occurrence of simulator sickness seems to be difficult. However, there are some factors that increase the probability of getting sick, including cold, medications, lack of sleep and general fatigue. The lack of knowledge about simulator sickness among aircraft pilots appears rather alarming. When access to virtual reality is so wide, the possible ways of expanding the knowledge in this area should be considered, especially in order to obtain better results in simulator sessions. The article presents identification of problems during the implementation of Lean concept in small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland. Although the Lean methodology is recognized all over the world as one of the best and most effective ways to improve the functioning of enterprises, in Polish conditions exist serious problems with its implementation. Development of small and medium-sized enterprises is regarded as one of the measures of economic growth and a sign of healthy competition. The needs of the economy and the limited resources characterizing this enterprise sector imply the need to adjust its capacities to the requirements of the turbulent environment. In the analysis of problems there were used the results of questionnaire surveys conducted among representatives of the companies participating in the largest Lean conference in Central Europe.

ObjectivesThe article presents the results of selected pilot studies conducted in medical ambulances. Their aim was to determine the working conditions and identify troublesome factors accompanying the performance of basic medical procedures by rescue teams.Material and MethodsThe study of working conditions was carried out in Mercedes-Benz ambulances, type S and P. Fifty-one paramedics of the Emergency Medical Rescue Service in Siedlce took part in the research. The questionnaire expert survey method and the direct observation method were used.ResultsAs a result of the applied research methods, knowledge was gained on the irregularities and difficulties that occur at the workplace of a paramedic, i.e., in an ambulance, including the lack of access to essential elements of medical equipment and their different location inside the vehicle, and the diversity of solutions for the spatial structure of ambulances, which all cause difficulties at work. Research has shown that paramedics take, on average, 33 min to familiarize themselves with the location of equipment in an ambulance other than the one in which they are usually on duty. There was no correlation between the lifeguard’s length of service and the time necessary for getting acquainted with the equipment, which was studied using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. In the study, rescuers also pointed to musculoskeletal ailments, mainly spinal pains resulting from taking forced positions during medical activities in an ambulance.ConclusionsThe results obtained constitute the basis for the author’s methodology of complex research aimed at defining the ergonomic recommendations necessary in the modification process of the operated medical fleet. The next step will be to formulate uniform guidelines for the construction of medical compartments of ambulances, the application of which will lead to the unification of their spatial structure regardless of the vehicle brand.

This paper addresses the nature of Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), considered as one of the most important concepts to ensure effective functioning in a modern society. It comprises a set of continually developing methods and procedures providing the geospatial base supporting a country’s governmental, environmental, economic, and social activities. In general, the SDI framework consists of the integration of various elements including standards, policies, networks, data, and end users and application areas. The transformation of previously paper-based map data into a digital format, the emergence of GIS, and the Internet and a host of online applications (e.g., environmental impact analysis, navigation, applications of VGI data, governmental efficiency drives) have led to huge leaps forward in SDI development. However, SDI progress can be held back by numerous challenges, both technical and non-technical. The paper outlines these challenges from the perspective of the country of Iraq, where there is an absence of a clear direction towards efficient SDI operation and a lack of knowledge for establishing and managing effective SDI. These challenges could be met by considering and resolving generic issues, identified by the experiences of other nations, by researchers, and by organisations. These issues are investigated and assessed by means of a questionnaire survey and interviews, directed towards important participants in the field of SDI development in the country. The results present the SDI issues in order of relevance to assist developers and users in solving potential SDI and data integration problems within Iraq.

This paper presents the concept of organisational culture, with a particular emphasis on Norwegian organisational culture. It explains why organisational culture plays an important role in an organisation’s success and features the main determinants of Norwegian organisational culture which distinguish it from other organisational cultures and support the coherent functioning of the organisation. The assessment of Norwegian organisational culture showed that Norwegian organisations are dominated by a clan-like culture, also showing the features of female culture, and thus based on trust, cooperation and compliance of goals. The research carried out for the purposes of this study showed the compliance of the cultural profile of the studied enterprise with the profile of Norwegian organisational culture – the responses of the employees of the Beta Hotel allow us to draw conclusions that the company is also dominated by the clan culture and features of female organisational culture. The results of the study show that employees of an organisation identify with their internal system of values, which may translate into the effectiveness of their work and social relations, and, as a result, the success of the organisation.

The article focuses on the subjective assessment of human thermal sensations expressed by them in the questionnaires. The tests were performed in the lecture room of Kielce University of Technology, where 69 students answered the questions about their thermal sensations. The results show that the majority of students felt satisfied and were not interested in changing the conditions. The impact of Body Mass Index revealed itself and was quite obvious.
Artykuł koncentruje się na zagadnieniu subiektywnej oceny wrażeń cieplnych ludzi wyrażonych przez nich w kwestionariuszach. Badania prowadzono w dużej sali wykładowej Politechniki Świętokrzyskiej, gdzie 69 studentów odpowiadało na pytania dotyczące ich odczuć termicznych. Wyniki pomiarów pokazują, że większość studentów była usatysfakcjonowana i nie chcieli zmieniać warunków swojego otoczenia. W pracy wyraźnie uwidocznił się również wpływ indeksu BMI respondentów.

The attitudes of the numerous Bulgarian emigrants, scattered across the continents, to our language and to his use abroad are of particular importance for the Bulgarian state and language policy regarding emigration. The two questionnaires were conducted among the Bulgarian emigrant community in Sydney, Australia on one side and worldwide (where the answers came from) on the other side. In this report are commented the results of both questionnaires. Only those answers that reflect the attitudes of today’s emigrants to the use of their native Bulgarian language in daily communication and their willingness to participate in Bulgarian education abroad of their children are analyzed here. The characteristics of the attitudes of Bulgarian emigrants to their native language and Bulgarian education abroad are valuable in terms of the future work of Bulgarian linguistics and Bulgarian governmental institutions. Their main priority should be the delay of the process of forgetting the Bulgarian language from the generations.

The issue of sustainability, or corporate social responsibility (CSR), has become a widely discussed topic in all industrial production sectors. The article focuses on the automobile industrial sector because it is not only the most dynamically developing industrial area but also because it is one of the driving forces of local economies in many European countries. This paper aims to reveal possible differences and diversity of understanding of priorities in the CSR activities provided by automotive suppliers in European countries. Based on the meta-analysis, 73 actions were listed, and a questionnaire survey was performed. Cluster analysis and Fisher’s exact test were applied to find out whether the attitude towards sustainability differs dependent on the position in the supply chain or on the company size.

Opis:
The deterioration of the general investment climate, the economic recession, and changes in consumption patterns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have forced various foreign investors to restrict or suspend investments. One of the possible reactions by investors to the coronavirus crisis is divestment. This article aimed at detecting and analysing the regularities between the risk of foreign divestment in various industry branches and the destinations of FDIs at the level of NUTS 1 macroregions of the Visegrad Group countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, using correspondence analysis. The results of the assessment of the risk of foreign divestment in NUTS 1 macroregions of the Visegrad Group countries are characterised by diversity in terms of territorial and sectoral layout, depending on the analysed scenario of the COVID-19 pandemic development. It is hard to clearly indicate a macroregion which, irrespective of the scale of the spread of the disease, could be perceived by foreign investors as invariably highly risky or characterised by a constantly low risk of divestment.
