The article is an invitation to discuss the role and tasks of the psychologist in the modern school. It advances the thesis that the primary role of the psychologist is to co-create the school environment and the educational process. Being a co-creator is the essence of the presented model of the psychologist’s work in the school system. The model covers psychological activities defined as monitoring promotion prevention, and intervention. It identifies the need to continually expand the possibilities of psychological influences and to create an autonomous vision of their realization. Adopting and performing this role in the way described in the model seems to be crucial to building the professional identity of the educational psychologist—and a well-defined and clarified professional identity is the basic regulator of a person’s functioning in his/her professional role.

The paper presents research findings concerning desired parental activities for peer violence prevention. An instrument was created for the purpose of this research, and study sample comprised 480 participants, including 170 parents, 94 teachers and 206 students. Activities perceived as more important were open communication and greater control of children’s behavior, while parents’ participation in school was assessed as less important. The “School without violence” program was recognized as a significant resource for empowering family activities in peer violence prevention. This implies that it is important to implement family support programs and to develop parents’ skills.

Despite the fact that the legislation of the Slovak Republic enables social pedagogues to perform activities in schools, at present the socio-pedagogical work in school is performed to a minimum extent. This contribution aims to highlight its benefit not only in the local but also in the society-wide scale. It specifies in more detail possibilities for activities of a social pedagogue in preventing and dealing with socio-pathological phenomena in the school environment. Its aim is to point out to the necessity of establishing the profession of the social pedagogue in schools as a significant element of professionalisation of prevention of various forms of pupils’ deviant behaviour.

Poland’s Ministry of National Education1 issued in August 2017 a document titled Safe School –the threats and recommended preventive measures for [protection of] physical and digital safety of students2. A program started in September 2017 as a set of safety recommendations and guidelines for school heads and school authorities. In its particular components and general outlook, the document focuses on school safety problems, with propositions for their resolve. The whole document consists of two separate parts. The first chapter –Prevention of physical hazards and ensuring physical safety at school – discusses such material factors as the description of a typical school building, its equipment and its surroundings (areas adjacent to school buildings), entry/exit procedure, alarm system, escape routes, and recommendations for school activities in relation to its material factors. It also underlines duties of the school headmaster, teachers and other school staff, based and in relation to the Teacher’s Charter. The second chapter – Cyber threats prevention and digital security at school – is a significant novelty. The Ministry of National Educationdocument provides for all the actors present within school surroundings, and at the same time in the digital space, six separate preventive recommendations, and also a strategic recommendation (action plan) in general. The aim of the article is a presentation of the main premises and contextual analysis of the safety issues presented in it.

The profession of social pedagogue is classified as a helping profession. Social pedagogues can prove their worth in various sectors and work with various target groups. The study analyses legislative possibilities and actual activities of social pedagogues in schools in Slovakia. Social pedagogues working in Slovak elementary and secondary schools carry out primary and secondary prevention, deal with pupils’ problem behaviour, screen for threatened pupils, provide counselling, actively work with pupils from socially disadvantaged environments, co-operate with pupils’ parents and with specialists. The author also briefly elucidates school preventive socio-educational work of social pedagogues in the other V4 countries comparable geographically, historically and culturally.

In the thesis the authors present complex results of the epidemiological study of oral health of the 6 - 12-year old schoolchildren attending elementary schools in Prešov (Slovakia) who participated in the Healthy Smile Prevention Project. The participants of the Project were represented by the pre-school children and schoolchildren from the age of 4 years attending the pre-school facilities and elementary schools and the project was performed by the dental hygienist, dental disease prevention officer, and school dental care assistant under supervision of a dental practitioner. The oral health of the abovementioned project participants was compared with the oral health of the group of children not participating in the prevention project. The project was supported by the Swiss company GABA.

Objectives Music educators are subjected to many physical and psychological stresses encountered in the workplace. These stresses could be counteracted by certain work-related behavior and experience patterns as personal resources to reduce the negative consequences of stress. The aim of the study was to determine the existing work-related behavioral and experiential patterns and the characteristics of the Work-Related Behavior and Experience Patterns (Arbeitsbezogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster – AVEM) questionnaire dimensions in the professional group of music educators according to age group. Material and Methods A total of 205 music educators (66.3% female) from various music schools in Germany participated in the online survey. The subjects were divided into 3 age groups (AG): AG I: ≤35 years, AG II: 36–45 years, AG III: ≥46 years. In addition to sociodemographic and occupational data, the standardized AVEM questionnaire was used according to Schaarschmidt and Fischer. The age and occupation-related data were evaluated in a correlation analysis with the expression of AVEM dimensions. Results A total of 71.4% of the music educators were ≥46 years old group. Another 12.8% belonged to AG II, and 15.8% belonged to AG III. The sex distribution in the 3 age groups was comparable (p = 0.261). The expression of all AVEM dimensions was within the reference range. The most pronounced dimension, with a stanine value of M±SD 5.2±2.15, was the willingness to spend. There was also no significant difference in the assignment to the 4 patterns in the 3 age groups (p = 0.669). Age showed a negative correlation with the experience of social support (ρ = –0.354). Conclusions The age-independent and high intervention-requiring expressions of the AVEM risk patterns A and B led to the recommendation of workplace prevention and health promotion measures. Therefore, it seems reasonable to promote appropriate stress management measures and resilience during studies.

Problem cyberbullyingu jest zjawiskiem stale rozpowszechniającym się, co niewątpliwie skłania do nieustannych eksploracji naukowych, dotyczących zarówno skali samego problemu, jego uwarunkowań, jak również skutecznych działań profilaktycznych i interwencyjnych. Artykuł stanowi próbę usystematyzowania opinii nauczycieli na temat zjawiska cyberbullyingu jako wciąż aktualnego wyzwania dla współczesnej szkoły. Wiodącym celem prowadzonych badań wśród grupy 273 nauczycieli było poznanie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy szkoły i pracujący w nich nauczyciele są przygotowani do rozwiązywania problemów związanych z cyberbullyingiem, a w rezultacie jaka jest ich wiedza w zakresie tego zjawiska i prowadzonych w jego ramach działań zapobiegawczych. Wyniki unaoczniły, że zarówno wiedza nauczycieli na temat cyberbullyingu, jak również ich kompetencje w zakresie działań profilaktycznych są zdecydowanie zbyt niskie i nieadekwatne do istniejących potrzeb. Nauczyciele zauważają jednak niedostatki „luki pokoleniowej” pomiędzy własnymi kompetencjami cyfrowymi a sprawnością poruszania się uczniów po wirtualnym świecie i są gotowi do podejmowania trudu niwelowania jej. Istnieje zatem pilna potrzeba dokształcania nauczycieli w zakresie problematyki sieciowych zagrożeń, w tym zwłaszcza cyberbullyingu, w szczególności z uwzględnieniem praktycznych rozwiązań profilaktycznych i interwencyjnych.
The problem of cyberbullying is a constantly spreading phenomenon, which undoubtedly leads to constant scientific exploration regarding both the scale of the problem itself, its determinants, as well as effective preventive and intervention actions. The article is an attempt to systematize teachers' opinions on cyberbullying as an ongoing challenge for the modern school. The main aim of the research conducted among a group of 273 teachers was to find out the answer to the question whether schools and teachers are prepared to solve problems related to cyberbullying, and as a result, what is their knowledge in the field of the phenomenon and preventive actions carried out in this area. The results showed that both teachers' knowledge of cyberbullying and their competences in the field of preventive actions are definitely too low and inadequate in relation to the existing needs. Teachers, however, notice the shortcomings of the "generation gap" between their own digital competences and the ability of students to move around the virtual world and are ready to try to eliminate it. Therefore, there is an urgent need to train teachers in the field of cyber threats, especially cyberbullying, in particular regarding practical preventive and intervention solutions.

W działalności wychowawczej, którą Kościół podejmuje wśród młodzieży, ważne miejsce zajmują rekolekcje szkolne. To dlatego katechetycy i pastoraliści coraz częściej zwracają uwagę nie tylko na tradycyjne formy organizacji rekolekcji szkolnych, ale także na innowacje pedagogiczne. Słusznie za istotne uznają nawiązanie do doświadczeń młodzieży. Współcześnie każdy uczestnik rekolekcji szkolnych potrzebuje wsparcia w rozpoznawaniu, rozumieniu i rozwiązywaniu aktualnych problemów. Jednym z nich jest „hejt internetowy”. Młodzież bezpośrednio lub pośrednio styka się z tym zjawiskiem. Zgodnie z zasadą wierności Bogu i człowiekowi dobrze przeprowadzone rekolekcje szkolne są okazją do podejmowania różnych zagadnień związanych z hejtowaniem w Internecie. Pozwalają podejmować to zagadnienie w kontekście przykazania miłości Boga i bliźniego oraz wartości chrześcijańskich. Mogą motywować uczestników do zmiany myślenia i postępowania w kwestiach związanych z hejtem. Wymagają jednak – obok dobrze przepowiadanego słowa Bożego i jego aktualizacji – innowacyjnych inicjatyw wychowawczych, które służą zapobieganiu hejtowi internetowemu wśród młodzieży. W czasie rekolekcji szkolnych warto zorganizować m.in. spotkanie z psychologiem i policjantem oraz z osobami, które są dla młodych autorytetem. To właśnie osoba znacząca może zachęcić młodzież do akceptacji zasad życia chrześcijańskiego i ich respektowania w codziennym życiu, m.in. w przestrzeni wirtualnej.
An important role in the educational activity of the Church for youth is played by school retreats. That is why catechism and pastoral scholars and practitioners are paying increasing attention not only to traditional forms of organisation of school retreats but also to educational innovations. They justifiably consider referring to young people’s experiences to be of significance. Nowadays, each participant in school retreats needs help to identify, understand, and solve topical problems; one of them is online hate. Young people face this phenomenon directly and indirectly. According to the principle of faithfulness in God and man, well-organised school retreats are an opportunity to tackle various issues related to online hate. They allow to discuss the problem in question in the context of Christian values as well as the commandment to love God and one’s neighbour. They can motivate participants to change the way of thinking and acting when it comes to hate. However, in addition to voicing the word of God and keeping it up to date, innovative educational initiatives are required to prevent online hate among the youth. During school retreats, it is worth organising sessions with, inter alia, psychologists, police officers or people who are role models for youth. For it is a role model who can encourage young people to embrace the rules of Christian life and follow them both in everyday life and on the internet.

The article deals with issues related to preventive competences. In the introduction, an attempt was made to define preventive competences, and then the methodological assumptions of the tests, The theoretical and cognitive goal of the presented research was to diagnose the preventive competences of teaching faculty students in Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. The practical and implementation goal was to develop practical recommendations for educating preventive teachers in Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. The main problem for which answers were sought was contained in the question: What are the competences of pedagogy students in teaching faculties? Specific problems: 1. What knowledge do students have about preventive measures? 2. What skills in preventive interventions do students have? 3. What experience do students have in the field of preventive measures? The research used the diagnostic survey method. The Preventive Competence Questionnaire (PCQ) was used, prepared by Sławomir Śliwa. Data analysis was developed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 19 statistical program. The research group consisted of 144 students from Poland (students of the Academy of Management and Administration in Opole) and 207 students from Slovakia (students of the University of Prešov in Prešov) and 39 students from Ukraine (students from the State Pedagogical University in Berdyansk). The research results show what level of knowledge and what level of skills in the field of preventive competences future teachers have. The article indicates areas of knowledge and skills that were rated the lowest and the highest. Finally, practical tips on educating future preventive teachers are included.
Artykuł dotyczy zagadnień związanych z kompetencjami prewencyjnymi. We wstępie podjęto próbę zdefiniowania kompetencji profilaktycznych, a następnie przedstawiono założenia metodologiczne badań, wyniki i wnioski z badań. Celem teoretyczno-poznawczym prezentowanych badań była diagnoza kompetencji profilaktycznych studentów kierunków pedagogicznych w Polsce, Słowacji i Ukrainie. Celem praktyczno-wdrożeniowym było opracowanie praktycznych rekomendacji dla kształcenia nauczycieli profilaktyków w Polsce, w Słowacji i Ukrainie. Główny problem, na który poszukiwano odpowiedzi, zawierał się w pytaniu: Jakie są kompetencje studentów pedagogiki na kierunkach nauczycielskich? Problemy szczegółowe: 1. Jaką wiedzę mają studenci na temat działań profilaktycznych? 2. Jakie umiejętności w zakresie interwencji profilaktycznych posiadają studenci? 3. Jakie doświadczenie mają studenci w zakresie działań profilaktycznych? W badaniu wykorzystano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego – Kwestionariusz Kompetencji Profilaktycznych (PCQ), opracowany przez Sławomira Śliwę. Do analizy danych wykorzystano program statystyczny IBM SPSS Statistics 19. Grupę badawczą stanowiło 144 studentów z Polski (studenci Wyższej Szkoły Zarządzania i Administracji w Opolu) i 207 studentów ze Słowacji (studenci Uniwersytetu Preszowskiego w Preszowie) oraz 39 studentów z Ukrainy (studenci Państwowego Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Berdiańsku). Wyniki badań pokazują, jaki poziom wiedzy i umiejętności w zakresie kompetencji profilaktycznych mają przyszli nauczyciele. Opis:
Work of the guidance counsellor focuses on care, education and preven-tion. The guidance counsellor supports students in the integral development. It helps them to overcome educational problems and co-works with parents. Usu-ally the activity is accompanied by his/her involvement in combating violence not only in school but also in the family. This article focuses on the basic operation of the guidance counsellor in executing “the Blue Card” procedure. The guidance counsellor’s participation in the work of interdisciplinary teams that have been appointed by the mayor or president of the city to take action to prevent domestic violence is described. Attention is drawn to possibilities governed by law to support a child from a family affected by the violence as well as to the need for professional devel-opment of teachers in the field of “the Blue Card” procedure. Only a qualified guidance counsellor, able to work in an interdisciplinary team or a workgroup can give appropriate assistance to child victims.
