    Opis:
    W artykule będącym pierwszą częścią cyklu przedstawiono charakterystykę ogólną wykorzystywanych obecnie w Polsce maszyn wielooperacyjnych stosowanych w procesie pozyskiwania drewna, zwanych powszechnie harwesterami. Zostały one opisane na przykładzie modeli kilku wybranych, najpopularniejszych w naszym kraju firm, tj.: John Deere, Ponsse, Valmet. Omówiono różne konstrukcje nośników tych maszyn, ich wady i zalety, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do polskich warunków pozyskiwania drewna.
    This article, which is the first part of the cycle, presents the general description of multifunctional machines currently used in Poland in the process of wood logging commonly called harvesters They have been described on the example of a few chosen models of the most popular firms in our country, i.e. John Deere, Ponsse, Valmet. The article discusses various constructions of these machines' carriers, their advantages and disadvantages, especially with reference to Polish circumstances of wood logging.

    Opis:
    High unit costs of mechanized timber harvesting are a major obstacle for the development of this process in Poland. Apart from that, other important factors include forests structure, work organization and principles of the forest utilisation in the State Forests. Fragmentation and dispersal in the superintendence economic tasks related to the acquisition of wood affect the reduction of the degree of use of the machine during the working day. In this study, we paid particular attention to the harvester runs between successive tasks and between tasks and bases of the night stopover. The above−mentioned organizational factors can substantially affect the performance of the machine and their potential reduction could improve the economic efficiency of the use of harvesting machines in the Polish forests. The simulation calculations assumed fixed total area covered by the work of logging and fixed total amount of acquisitions. The parameters of the variables in the calculation was the number of tasks performed and the number of bases of the night stopover. Change in the previous parameter was clear with the volume of a single task and the distance between them. The paper discusses the results of research on the impact of these parameters on the multioperational machine operating efficiency. Reducing the number of jobs (increasing their size) causes significant increase in harvester efficiency. In extreme cases, it may be up to about 20%. The article also points to the possibility of better organization of work and thereby the economic effects of the use of harvesting machines in selected forest areas. Deciding on the organization of work in a specific forest district one should however also take into consideration principles of the forest utilisation.

    Opis:
    Sympozja Formec obejmujące tematykę rozwoju nowych technologii w leśnictwie zostały zapoczątkowane w Zwoleniu (ówczesnej Czechosłowacji) w 1966 roku. Spotkania zostały zainicjowane potrzebą wymiany informacji pomiędzy naukowcami z podzielonej wówczas Europy na blok zachodni i wschodni. Obecnie Formec stanowi główną platformę wymiany wiedzy i doświadczenia pomiędzy naukowcami i praktykami. Nowości z zakresu mechanizacji prac leśnych zostały omówione podczas dorocznego sympozjum w 2011 roku, w Graz, Austria. Tematem wiodącym była problematyka pozyskiwania drewna w warunkach górskich. Jednocześnie szeroko omawianym wątkiem była bioenergia pochodząca z surowca drzewnego. Odbywające się w tym samym czasie targi leśne Austrofoma pozwalały na skonfrontowanie rozważań konferencyjnych z pozyskiwaniem drewna w lesie, zarówno okrągłego, jak i rozdrobnionego.
    Formec symposia started in 1966 in Zvolen, former Czechoslovakia. Scientific meetings were initiated by the need for knowledge exchange between scientists from Eastern and Western Europe. Currently Formec is a platform for exchange of knowledge and experience between scientists and practitioners. At the last Formec symposium in 2011 in Graz, Austria, new forest technologies were discussed. The main issues were related to forest operations in mountain areas; however, significant attention was also given to generation of bioenergy from forest biomass. Formec was followed by the International Trade Fair Austrofoma, which focused on the presentation of technology for the forestry sector, especially forest operations concerning round wood and wood chips.

    W Polsce oraz czynniki determinujące ich występowanie. Sylwan 160 (10): 795−804. In recent years, rapid changes related to forest operations have been observed in the forestry sector in Poland. A growing number of harvesters, an increased volume of harvested timber and a larger proportion of broadleaved species are considered the most important. The objective of this paper was to recognise the dynamics of harvester fleet change in Poland. In particular, there was an emphasis on finding out: 1) the total number of harvesters currently used in Poland (with respect to regions), 2) where and what type of machines were bought, and 3) which main factors influence the occurrence of these machines. In January 2014, a survey was sent to all forest districts. Questions related to harvesters and relevant for this paper included information about: 1) the number of harvesters in use, 2) the serial number of each harvester, 3) place of purchase (within the country or abroad), 4) status of the machine when bought (new or used), and 5) the forest district, in which an open tender was won for 2014. To avoid double counting the same harvester working in two or more forest districts, the serial number of each machine was used for identification. There were 368 harvesters reported in the survey in early 2014, although at the end of 2015 this number rose to 530 machines. The Central−West, North−West and North of Poland had the highest number of harvesters. Most of the harvesters were bought as used, though there may be a growing trend towards the purchase of new machines. A strong correlation was observed between the number of machines used in a region and the total area of lowland coniferous sites and forests, as well as the volume of harvested merchantable softwood. Currently, private forests and broadleaved species are the main factors limiting the application of harvesters in Poland.
