Opis:
The article presents a method for 3D point cloud segmentation. The point cloud comes from a FARO LS scanner - the device creates a dense point cloud, where 3D points are organized in the 2D table. The input data set consists of millions of 3D points - it makes widely known RANSAC algorithms unusable. We add some modifications to use RANSAC for such big data sets
Artykuł prezentuje metodę segmentacji chmury punktów 3D. Segmentacja znajduje w chmurze (kracie) punktów kwadryki. Przedstawione rozwiązanie uwzględnia ten problem wywołując czasochłonny algorytm RANSAC jedynie dla wycinków analizowanej sceny, a następnie wykorzystuje uzyskane rezultaty do dalszej analizy. W artykule zaprezentowano szczegółowo algorytm RANSAC i zasady analizy wycinków skanu.

Mobile laser scanning is dynamically developing measurement technology, which is becoming increasingly widespread in acquiring three-dimensional spatial information. Continuous technical progress based on the use of new tools, technology development, and thus the use of existing resources in a better way, reveals new horizons of extensive use of MLS technology. Mobile laser scanning system is usually used for mapping linear objects, and in particular the inventory of roads, railways, bridges, shorelines, shafts, tunnels, and even geometrically complex urban spaces. The measurement is done from the perspective of use of the object, however, does not interfere with the possibilities of movement and work. This paper presents the initial results of the segmentation data acquired by the MLS. The data used in this work was obtained as part of an inventory measurement infrastructure railway line. Measurement of point clouds was carried out using a profile scanners installed on the railway platform. To process the data, the tools of ‘open source' Point Cloud Library was used. These tools allow to use templates of programming libraries. PCL is an open, independent project, operating on a large scale for processing 2D/3D image and point clouds. Software PCL is released under the terms of the BSD license (Berkeley Software Distribution License), which means it is a free for commercial and research use. The article presents a number of issues related to the use of this software and its capabilities. Segmentation data is based on applying the templates library pcl_segmentation, which contains the segmentation algorithms to separate clusters. These algorithms are best suited to the processing point clouds, consisting of a number of spatially isolated regions. Template library performs the extraction of the cluster based on the fit of the model by the consensus method samples for various parametric models (planes, cylinders, spheres, lines, etc.). Most of the mathematical operation is carried out on the basis of Eigen library, a set of templates for linear algebra.

The paper describes a solution of reverse engineering tasks using the equipment of the laboratory of the Technical University in Zvolen. The first task was linked to evaluation of a wear rate of the tool used to for mulching and elimination of unwanted wood or weed vegetation. The obtained data will be used as a base line for determination of the time interval for the tool replacement. We developed a prototype of components and their drawing documentation for a single-purpose machine for cutting barley. We created the 3D model using the method of photogrammetry. The finished drawing documentation and prototypes were handed over to the company KRUP. Finally, we identified the most suitable procedures for creating a model of a part with a complex shape. We tested the techniques of editing the point cloud processing, as well as of smoothing the surfaces and automating the creation of partial geometric elements of the model. Based on the properties of the component, which is the starting point of the entire reverse engineering process and from the achieved results, we set recommendations for the selection of appropriate procedures.

Wykazano, iż stosowanie filtracji, a w szczególności tworzenie siatki trójkątów znacząco poprawia wygląd chmury. Jest to natomiast wyłącznie wizualizacja, która dodatkowo negatywnie wpływa na dokładność wyznaczenia wymiaru.
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of point cloud processing on the accuracy of determination of dimension. The experiment was conducted on an example of the data from a measurement of the element of small diameter and simple geometry – a ceramic ball. The data was obtained from the optical measuring method - laser triangulation. When measuring, the noise caused by properties of the measured surface or environmental conditions is generated. It should be filtered in order not to adversely affect the measurement result. Point clouds were processed in different ways: creating a mesh of triangles, and filtering with a median filter, and an average filter. The parameter taken into account in the analysis was the sphere radius and the sphericity error. Optical measuring methods are used mainly for large elements since they provide a large number of measuring points in a short period of time. This paper presents the problem which appears when small parts of simple geometry are for example a part of large free surfaces. It was shown that the use of filtration, in particular creation of the mesh of triangles, improved the appearance of clouds significantly in the case of a small element for which the ratio of noise to the measurement points is higher. However, it is only the visualization, which additionally affects the accuracy of dimension determination.

Opis:
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) allow relatively cheap and fast acquisition of high-resolution data for small areas, making it possible to produce not only an orthophoto, understood as a two-dimensional product, but also a three-dimensional point cloud, which is the basis for obtaining a digital terrain model (DTM). The use of high-resolution image and elevation data may allow accurate shoreline delineation in areas where such measurement is not possible with other methods and further use of these data, e.g. for the production of electronic navigation charts. The accuracy of the final product, the DTM, is significantly affected by the photogrammetric classification process of the point cloud and the correct separation of the ground class. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the algorithms used to classify ground in photogrammetric point clouds and obtain correct DTMs. Three algorithms were tested: Adaptive Triangulated Irregular Network, Progressive Triangulated Irregular Network, and Multiscale Curvature Classification. The study involved two test areas covering natural shorelines. Images acquired with a UAV on the X8 system and a Sony alpha camera with a mounted 15 mm wide-angle lens were used as data for the research experiment. Accuracy analysis of the developed models was performed using check points acquired by the GNSS-RTK method.

Opis:
Scanning real 3D objects face many technical challenges. Stationary solutions allow for accurate scanning. However, they usually require special and expensive equipment. Competitive mobile solutions (handheld scanners, LiDARs on vehicles, etc.) do not allow for an accurate and fast mapping of the surface of the scanned object. The article proposes an end-to-end automated solution that enables the use of widely available mobile and stationary scanners. The related system generates a full 3D model of the object based on multiple depth sensors. For this purpose, the scanned object is marked with markers. Markers type and positions are automatically detected and mapped to a template mesh. The reference template is automatically selected for the scanned object, which is then transformed according to the data from the scanners with non-rigid transformation. The solution allows for the fast scanning of complex and varied size objects, constituting a set of training data for segmentation and classification systems of 3D scenes. The main advantage of the proposed solution is its efficiency, which enables real-time scanning and the ability to generate a mesh with a regular structure. It is critical for training data for machine learning algorithms. The source code is available at https://github.com/SATOffice/improved_scanner3D.

In this paper we propose a novel software, named ForestTaxator, supporting terrestrial laser scanning data processing, which for dendrometric tree analysis can be divided into two main processes: tree detection in the point cloud and development of three-dimensional models of individual trees. The usage of genetic algorithms to solve the problem of tree detection in 3D point cloud and its cross-sectional area approximation with ellipse-based model is also presented. The detection and approximation algorithms are proposed and tested using various variants of genetic algorithms. The work proves that the genetic algorithms work very well: the obtained results are consistent with the reference data to a large extent, and the time of genetic calculations is very short. The attractiveness of the presented software is due to the fact that it provides all necessary functionalities used in the forest inventory field. The software is written in C# and runs on the .NET Core platform, which ensures its full portability between Windows, MacOS and Linux. It provides a number of interfaces thus ensuring a high level of modularity. The software and its code are made freely available.

This paper presents an approach to the recognition of static hand gestures based on data acquired from 3D cameras and point cloud descriptors: Ensemble of Shape Functions and Global Radius-based Surface Descriptor. We describe a recognition algorithm consisting of hand segmentation, noise removal and downsampling of point clouds, dividing point cloud bounding boxes to cells, feature extraction and normalization, and gesture classification. Modifications to the descriptors are proposed in order to increase the hand posture recognition rates while decreasing the quantity of used features as well as the computational cost of the algorithm. Experiments performed on four challenging datasets using cross-validation tests prove the usefulness of our approach.

The technology of hydroacoustic scanning offers an efficient and widely-used source of geospatial information regarding underwater environments, providing measurement data which usually have the structure of irregular groups of points known as point clouds. Since this data model has known disadvantages, a different form of representation based on representing surfaces with simple geometric structures, such as edges and facets, is preferred for data featuring seabed surface relief and various underwater objects. In this paper, the authors propose a multiple-step approach to three-dimensional surface reconstruction from multibeam sonar measurements, relying on the proper application of various algorithms for noise reduction, data rasterization and classification. The results obtained by combining several different surface reconstruction algorithms with the proposed data processing technique were tested, and the strengths and weaknesses of each method were highlighted.

The technologies of sonar and laser scanning are an efficient and widely used source of spatial information with regards to underwater and over ground environment respectively. The measurement data are usually available in the form of groups of separate points located irregularly in three-dimensional space, known as point clouds. This data model has known disadvantages, therefore in many applications a different form of representation, i.e. 3D surfaces composed of edges and facets, is preferred with respect to the terrain or seabed surface relief as well as various objects shape. In the paper, the authors propose a new approach to 3D shape reconstruction from both multibeam and LiDAR measurements. It is based on a multiple-step and to some extent adaptive process, in which the chosen set and sequence of particular stages may depend on a current type and characteristic features of the processed data. The processing scheme includes: 1) pre-processing which may include noise reduction, rasterization and pre-classification, 2) detection and separation of objects for dedicated processing (e.g. steep walls, masts), and 3) surface reconstruction in 3D by point cloud triangulation and with the aid of several dedicated procedures. The benefits of using the proposed methods, including algorithms for detecting various features and improving the regularity of the data structure, are presented and discussed. Several different shape reconstruction algorithms were tested in combination with the proposed data processing methods and the strengths and weaknesses of each algorithm were highlighted.

This paper describes the process of creating a digital model of spiroid gears used in the defense industry. This is where the precise measurement of the parts with the highest requirements for accuracy is of great importance. The construction of a computational model of a physical object was carried out using an optical three-dimensional scanner. Based on the cloud of points obtained in the process of scanning, a spatial digital model reflecting the geometry of an existing element was developed. Polygonization and mesh reconstruction allowed to create a finite element method model that enabled the precise reproduction of the scanned object. The created model was subsequently used to conduct appropriate analysis and simulation to verify the correctness and possible modification of the construction of both elements of spiroid gears: worm thread and face gear

This paper concerns a classification problem of 3D shapes being in motion. The goal is to develop the system with real-time capabilities to distinguish basic shapes (corners, planes, cones, spheres etc.) that are moving in front of RGB-D sensor. It is introduced an improvement of SoA algorithms (normal vector computation using PCA Principal Component Analysis and SVD Singular Value Decomposition, PFH – Point Feature Histogram) based on GPGPU (General Purpose Graphic Processor Unit) computation. This approach guarantee on-line computation of normal vectors, unfortunately computation time of the PFH for each normal vector is still a challenge to obtain on-line capabilities, therefore in this paper it is shown how to find a region of movement and to perform the classification process assuming the decreased amount of data. Proposed approach can be a starting point for further developments of the systems able to recognize the objects in the dynamic environments.

Point cloud dataset is the transitional data model used in several marine and land remote-sensing applications. During further steps of processing, the transformation of point cloud spatial data to more complex models containing higher order geometric structures like edges and facets may be possible, if an appropriate quality level of input data is provided. Point cloud datasets usually contain a considerable amount of undesirable irregularities, such as strong variability of local point density, missing data, overlapping points and noise caused by scattering characteristics of the environment. For these reasons, processing such data can be quite problematic, especially in the field of object detection and threedimensional surface reconstruction. This paper is focused on applying the proposed methods for reducing the mentioned irregularities from several datasets containing 3D point clouds acquired by multibeam sonars and LiDAR scanners. The article also presents the results obtained by each method, and discusses their advantages.

Opis:
Our work involves hand posture recognition based on 3D data acquired by the KinectTM sensor in the form of point clouds. We combine a descriptor built on the basis of the Viewpoint Feature Histogram (VFH) with additional feature describing the number of extended fingers. First, we extract a region corresponding to the hand and then a histogram of the edge distances from the palm center is built. Based on quantized version of the histogram we calculate the number of extended fingers. This information is used as a first feature describing the hand which, together with VFH-based features, form the feature vector. Before calculating VFH we rotate the hand making our method invariant to hand rotations around the axis perpendicular to the camera lens. Finally, we apply nearest neighbor technique for the posture classification. We present results of crossvalidation tests performed on a representative dataset consisting of 10 different postures, each shown 10 times by 10 subjects. The comparison of recognition rate and mean computation time with other works performed on this dataset confirms the usefulness of our approach.
