Opis:
The scope of the present article is to reflect upon the question of the environment within the context of the discussion concerning the use of dialect in the poetry of Pier Paolo Pasolini, Andrea Zanzotto, Nino De Vita and other poets from Sicily. Commencing from the concept of ‘diversity’, as intended by Pasolini as the disappearance of the rural world, which occurs in step with the eclipses of dialectal variety, the essay will demonstrate how the environment – the crucial focus of the poetry of the above mentioned poets – converges concepts of dialects, territoriality and animality. The ecocritical method, which is applied in this study, enables one to signal the urgency to reflect upon the situation of contemporary poetry, in particular of Sicilian poetry, which has its roots in Nino De Vita’s poetic works, inextricably tied to the place, the natural and the cultural context of the island. The new Sicilian poetry does not cancel ‘diversity’, which on the contrary is capable of confronting environmental issues – at times also beyond the island’s borders – and it feeds from the lymph, from the root of the dialect.

To save the unsavable. The poetry of Nino De Vita: Translation and Self-Translation – The article reflects upon the argument of translation and self-translation referring to the Sicilian poet Nino De Vita, who translates his own texts from the Marsala dialect into Italian. Moreover, the article aims to compare two translation solutions of De Vita’s texts, wherein besides respecting the sense of otherness and exoticism of the original version, one of the most distinctive traits of the Sicilian dialect emerges: the vowel sound ‘u’.

Opis:
The article focuses on three Italian Novecento poetical voices of Lucio Piccolo, Eugenio Montale and Maria Luisa Spaziani and presents their experience of writing which gesture originates from listening to each other’s voices and from the constant weave with life that nourishes each poetic inspiration and each possible story. Firstly, the authors consider the Sicilian voice of baron Piccolo from Calanovella who was completely excluded from the circle of Italian poets in the XX century, in spite of the promising debut that took place thanks to Eugenio Montale who was convinced of Piccolo’s originality and maturity. Secondly, the analysis of biographical events involving baron Piccolo and his cousin Tomasi di Lampedusa, the epistolary story of 9 lyrics written by the Sicilian aristocrat and his friendship with Maria Luisa Spaziani, should help unravel the mechanisms which generate, inspire and extinguish every act of writing. In its concluding part, the paper explores the conception of «resistance» and «act of creation», as interpreted by Giorgio Agamben.
