    Artykuł opisuje próbę przeprowadzenia eksperymentalnego tłumaczenia autotematycznych utworów lirycznych z zamianą podmiotowego “Ja, które pisze” na podmiotowe “Ja, które tłumaczy”. Przytoczone zostają liczne przekłady trzech wierszy (autorstwa Roberta Lowella, Franka O’Hary oraz Jane Kenyon): zostają zinterpretowane one i porównane z dziełami oryginalnymi oraz opatrzone komentarzem, sytuującym je w szerszym kontekście translatologicznym i teoretycznoliterackim. Tłumaczenia dokonały studentki specjalności przekładowej na Wydziale Filologii Polskiej i Klasycznej Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu.
    The article describes an attempt to conduct an experimental translation of a self-referential poems with the conversion of the subjective “I who write” into the subjective “I who translate”. It contains numerous translations of three poems (written by Robert Lowell, Frank O’Hara and Jane Kenyon). They are interpreted and compared with the original works and provided with commentary, which situates them in a broader translatological and theoretical context. The translations were made by the students of the translation speciality (Wydział Filologii Polskiej i Klasycznej, Adam Mickieiwcz Univeristy in Poznań).

    The work analyses translation difficulties linked to literary allusions and compares the translation techniques applied in two English editions of Andrzej Bursa’s poems: one by Kevin Christianson and Halina Abłamowicz, the other by Wiesiek Powaga. First, the peculiarities of translating intertextuality are presented. Then, specific techniques of translating such allusions are analysed, compared and discussed. Finally, the strategies adopted by the translators were summed up and assessed.

    The paper discusses the connection between Olga Tokarczuk’s novel Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead and the poetry of William Blake. Blake’s ideology was to show how mankind had come to the end because of its misdeeds, using the animal imagery, which links him to the topic presented by Tokarczuk, criticizing the cruelty of the authorities towards animals. She quoted Blake at the beginning of every chapter and created a character skilled in translating Blake. Since not much of Blake’s oeuvre has been translated in Macedonian, the translator of this novel had to deal with translating Blake too. Consequently, this text also focuses on the translation problems which she had to solve.

    Though ideally a translator should have a sound knowledge not only of the language of the source text but of the literary culture from which it has arisen, examples can readily be found of satisfactory poetic translations made by translators with little or no knowledge of the original language. Examples also abound of cases where an inadequate knowledge of the source language has led a translator into errors of interpretation, which may or may not be counterbalanced by felicities of expression in the target-language text. The author’s Scots translations of poems in Polish, a language of which he has only a rudimentary knowledge, are presented and examined as case-studies of the practical and ethical problems of translating from an imperfectly-known language.

    W artykule przeanalizowane zostały trudności tłumaczeniowe związane z aluzjamiliterackimi, porównano też techniki tłumaczeniowe zastosowane w dwóch anglojęzycznychwydaniach wierszy Andrzeja Bursy: w przekładzie Kevina Christiansona i HalinyAbłamowicz oraz Wieśka Powagi. Najpierw przedstawiono problem przekładu odniesieńintertekstualnych. Następnie zbadane, porównane i omówione zostały poszczególne technikitłumaczeniowe. Artykuł kończą podsumowanie i próba oceny strategii tłumaczy.

    The article is a short presentation of a translation concept created by an American cognitivist and physicist Douglas Hofstadter included in his book Le Ton beau de Marot. The principles of the concept are presented by means of a metaphor. Translation is a game of, only partially conscious, participation in an infinite loop: words evoke images and images – words. The contact with the original text creates images in the translator’s mind that he or she translates by means of language structures into sentences/verses of the target language. This cognitive intuition is paired with a structural category of Stanisław Barańczak’s semantic dominant. This methodological, structural-cognitive pair is a starting point for the analysis of Barańczak’s translation of Ogden Nash’s The Dog. The stylistic and formal solutions (especially rhymes) used by the translator are analysed, but the main goal of the text is to capture the elusive, i.e. the analysis of the interlinguistic and‘inter-mental’ translation of the absurd sense of humour.

    Intersemiotyczny model przekładu jawi się jako dialog między różnymi gatunkami i mediami, który charakteryzuje się wzajemnym efektem odbicia lustrzanego. Średniowieczna narracja zostaje przetłumaczona na narrację filmową dzięki galerii obrazów – znaków niewerbalnych. Ten rodzaj przekładu ujawnia semiotyczną złożoność podobną do tej właściwiej oryginałowi. Twórca filmu – fidus interpres – naśladuje sztukę średniowiecznego barda czy minstrela i pozostaje wierny duchowi mitu. Celem artykułu jest prześledzenie metamorfozy mitu od średniowiecznej poezji do filmowej narracji. Argumentacja autorek przebiega dwutorowo: 1) rozważania na temat heroicznego monomitu – jego fabuły, tematów, motywów umocowanych w horyzontalnym/narracyjnym następstwie ujęć; 2) ujawnienie interakcji między formuliczną strukturą planszy z napisami a tradycją poezji epickiej.
    The intersemiotic model of translation exhibits itself as a dialogue between various genres and media, which is marked by the reciprocal looking glass effect. A medieval narrative is translated into a cinematic narrative by a gallery of images – non-verbal signs. This kind of translation reveals similar semiotic complexity as that of the original. The film producer – the fidus interpres – imitates the art of the oral epic singer and remains faithful to the spirit of myth. The aim of this paper is to contemplate the metamorphosis of myth from the medieval poetic to the cinematic narrative. The argument of the authors proceeds in the following way: (1) to consider the heroic monomyth – its plot, theme, and motifs – as embedded in the horizontal/narrative successions of shots; (2) to reveal the interaction between the formulaic structure of the intertitles and oral epic poetry.

    The article considers the translation by Wiktor Woroszylski of various types of intertextual elements included by Iosif Brodski in his poem Два часа в резервуаре (In English – Two hours in the tank). Regardless of the different translation decisions and noticeable associative shifts that concern specific intertextual elements, the translation as a whole should be considered successful. Nevertheless, in the course of the analysis, the author comes to the conclusion that in the case of an intertextualized text (one that is saturated with intertextual elements), the preservation in the translation of the associative chains that make up the network of intertextual associations is more important than the adequacy of the specific elements of the text.
