Opis:
A study was conducted at the Department of Horticulture, KNUST, Kumasi from June to November, 2015 with the objectives to (i) determine the rate of ATONIK plant growth regulator (PGR) suitable for high yield of two varieties of hybrid rice (ii) determine the combined effects of PGR rates and varieties on the growth and yield performance of hybrid rice. A 2 x 5 factorial arrangement in randomized complete block design with three replications was used. The factors were varieties at two levels: Agra Rice and Jasmine 85 and PGR at five levels: ATONIK at 450 ml/ha, ATONIK at 500 ml/ha, ATONIK at 550 ml/ha, ATONIK at 0 ml/ha and GA3 at 60 ml/ha. Comparing the ATONIK rates with the GA3, ATONIK at 450 ml/ha resulted in a 14.3 % increase in the number of rice panicles. Application of ATONIK at 450 ml/ha, 500 ml/ha and 550 ml/ha resulted in 14.4%, 10.7% and 4.4% higher percentage of productive tillers, respectively, than that produced by GA3 at 60 ml/ha. ATONIK at 450 ml/ha application led to a 17.8 % increase in grain yield. For the harvest index, application of ATONIK at 450 ml/ha resulted in the highest harvest index of 45 %, significantly greater than the other PGR treatments. In conclusion, the study clearly demonstrated that ATONIK PGR was superior to GA3 in the vegetative and productive performance of rice. The most suitable rate of ATONIK for increased rice productivity was 450 ml/ha.

A field experiment was carried out during 2017–2018 in the Horticulture Research Station farm in El Kanater El Khayreia, El Kalubeia Governorate, Egypt, to find out the response of foliar application of melatonin, GA3 and NAA on vegetative and fruit attributes of ‘Canino’ apricot. Different plant growth regulators influenced all variable parameters related to vegetative growth and fruit. Results revealed that between all growth regulators, the foliar application of melatonin following by GA3 there was the highest vegetative growth as compared to other treatments, while GA3 gave the highest yield following by melatonin as compared to other treatments. Treatment with NAA improved vegetative growth, yield and fruit quality to a lesser extent as compared to the control.

Plants of ‘Catawbiense Boursault’ and ‘Eskimo’ rhododendrons or ‘Cannon’s Double’ and ‘Kilian’ azalea grown in 4 l containers were treated twice with chlormequat (2000, 4000 and 8000 mg · dm-3), trinexapac-ethyl (50, 100, 200, 400 mg · dm-3), daminozide (2500, 5000, 7500 mg · dm-3), proxeadione calcium (75, 150, 300 mg · dm-1) and once with paclobutrazol (50, 100, 200, 400 mg · dm-3). Shoot length of the subsequent growth flush following the treatments decreased with increasing rates of the growth retardants. The number of flower buds per plant increased with increasing rates of pacloburazol, chlormequat and daminozide. Prohexadione calcium was less effective in flower bud initiation and the worst results were obtained with trinexapac-ethyl.

Opis:
It is assumed that progress in cultivar breeding corresponds to over 50% of the increase in cereal yields. Among possible ways of improving the success of fertilisation and, consequently, increasing yields and enhancing the mineral balance in crops is the application of growth regulators. The purpose of this study has been to assess the effect of growth regulators and their doses on the mineral balance in spring triticale. The research was based on a two-factor pot experiment, completed in four replicates. The experiment was carried out in Kick- Brauckmann pots filled with light soil of slightly acidic reaction and highly abundant in available forms of P, moderately abundant in K and poor in Mg. Mineral fertilisation per pot consisted of 1.5 g N, 2.0 g K and 0.25 g Mg. Nitrogen and potassium were applied in two rates – half the complete dose before sowing and the remaining amount as top dressing during the stem elongation phase. All the rate of magnesium was introduced to soil before sowing. Prior to sowing the tested cereal, grain of cv. Migo spring triticale was soaked for 24 hours in water (control) or in aqueous solutions of growth regulators: IBA (indole butyric acid), NAA (α-naphthaleneacetic acid), BAP (benzyl adenine): 5, 10, 20 mg dm–3; GA3 (gibberellin acid): 20, 40, 80 mg dm–3 and Tria (triacontanol): 0.1, 0.2, 0.2 mg dm–3. Spring triticale was harvested in the full maturity stage. An increase in the total nitrogen concentration in grain ranged from 6% following an application of GA3 to 15% after using NAA. Owing to its increased concentration and higher yield of triticale, the accumulation of nitrogen in grain increased by about 20% in plants treated with NAA and by 15-17% when the seed material was dressed with Tria, BAP or GA3. IBA produced the weakest effect, increasing the accumulation of this nutrient in grain by just 8%. This effect was obtained mainly by improved remobilisation and transport of N from vegetative parts to grain. The contribution of grain to nitrogen accumulation varied from 63% (control) to 71-73% after an application of the tested growth regulators. Under the influence of IBA, the concentration of potassium (by 14%) and the share of straw in potassium accumulation increased. In respect of the other macronutrients, the influence of growth regulators was less evident.
Azot i potas zastosowano w 2 dawkach – połowę przedsiewnie, a resztę pogłównie w fazie strzelania w źdźbło, natomiast magnez w całości przedsiewnie.

Opis:
The aim of the study has been to determine the effect of mineral fertilization and growth regulators on the content of mineral components in plants of two pea cultivars. The research was based on a two-factor pot trial. Two cultivars of pea were gown: cv. Poker (sugar pea with traditional foliage) and cv. Wenus (a general use, narrow-leaf cultivar). The effect of traditional fertilization with single NPK fertilizers was compared to that with multi-component fertilizers: Polifoska 6 and Amofoska 3 (alone or with the growth regulators: auxins IBA and NAA, triacontanol, L-tryptophan, adenine and cyokinin BA). Seeds of sugar pea cultivar Poker contained more phosphorus, potassium and calcium than those of universal cv. Wenus. Higher concentration of potassium in vegetative organs was found in cv. Wenus. Fertilization with Polifoska 6 increased the content of phosphorus in seeds and vegetative organs whereas Amofoska 3 stimulated mainly the accumulation of potassium. The growth stimulators tended to depress the content of phosphorus, potassium and magnesium in seeds but raised their levels in vegetative organs. Cultivar Poker, a traditional pea variety, was characterised by a more desirable distribution of phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium than narrow-leaf cv. Wenus. Mineral fertilization, compared to the control, stimulated more strongly the uptake of phosphorus than that of calcium and consequently lead to the narrowing of the mol calcium to phosphorus ratio. In contrast, the growth regulators improved that ratio owing to the increased transfer of calcium to seeds. Cv. Wenus was characterised by a broader K : (Ca + Mg) ratio in all examined aerial organs than cv. Poker. Mineral fertilization considerably increased these values.

Opis:
Effects of prohexadione-calcium (ProCa, 125 and 250 mgL–1) and ProCa + ammonium sulfate (AMS, 500 mgL–1) treatments on vegetative characteristics (shoot growth, branch diameter, trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA), canopy volume, number of flower per cm2, number of fruits per cm2) and quality parameters (fruit size, flesh firmness, color, titratable acidity and soluble solids content (SSC)) of ‘0900 Ziraat’ sweet cherry were investigated in this study. Solutions were sprayed when the shoots were just 10 cm long in 2014 and 2015. As compared to control, in 2015, TCSA decreased only with ProCa treatments (125 and 250 mgL–1) and canopy volume and shoot length decreased with all treatments. On the other hand, number of flower and fruit per cm2 significantly increased with all treatments. While there were not significant differences in fruit size, flesh firmness, color, SSC and titratable acidity values were significantly lower in 250 mgL–1 ProCa and 250 mgL–1 ProCa + AMS treatments. It was concluded that ProCa treatments could be used as an efficient tool for suppression of shoot growth and to increase the number of flower and fruits per cm2 in ‘0900 Ziraat’ sweet cherry cultivar.
