Opis:
The characteristics of communities found in unploughed stubble fields of the Mazowiecki Landscape Park and its agricultural buffer zone are presented in the paper. The association Echinochloo-Setarietum divided into a typical variant, the variant with Galinsoga parviflora, and the variant with Bidens tripartite, was the most frequently noted and floristically differentiated association. Patches of Digitarietum ischaemi were also frequently observed in stubble fields on the poorest habitats. Rarely, on fertile soils, small patches of floristically rich communities with Veronica agrestis were recorded. Periodically, excessively wet habitats were seldom occupied by the speciesrichest phytocoenoses of Centunculo-Anthoceretum punctati. Single patches of the community with Setaria pumila, the form with Aphanes arvensis, were observed only in the south-eastern part of the Park.

Opis:
In this paper I use the different measures of species mobility to describe the fine small-scale dynamics of calcareous grassland built mainly by perennial species and developed in the highly heterogeneous habitat of calcareous rocks. The community showed the low dynamics on a plot-scale (100 m2) and a high one on the scale of 1 m2. However, the studied species differed greatly in calculated indices: turnover rate, (T; 6-64), residence time (RT; 0.5-21.8 y) and carousel time (CT; 4-420 y) as well as the observed tendency to persistence on the spots (PERSIST) and their re-colonisation (AGAIN). This allowed to distinguish the three groups of species: (1) "core species" characterized by high frequency and low T and high CT and RT values, which determine the low dynamics of a community on the plot scale, (2) species with intermediate mobility rate and (3) the group with high mobility rate. The observed cumulative frequencies of all the studied species (CFobs) were much lower than expected under the random re-assignation model (CFRR). Moreover, they were also lower than those predicted by random immigration model (CFRI). The results showed that the "complex carousel" model rather than "single carousel" one explained better the small-scale dynamics of calcareous grasslands.

Opis:
This present paper, focused on root crop communities of light soils, is a part of the wide range characteristics of segetal communities of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu (Podlasie Bug River Gorge) mesoregion. On the basis of 160 phytosociological relevés made according to the Braun-Blanquet method, phytocenoses representing the Panico-Setarion alliance were distinguished. Most often, patches of the association Echinochloo-Setarietum were recorded in the study area. Heterogeneous habitat conditions affect its floristic diversity. Two subassociations of the phytocenosis, divided according to the species composition into 9 lower syntaxa, were identified on light soils. The following subassociations were distinguished: Echinochloo-Setarietum setarietosum glaucae in a typical variant and a variant with Juncus bufonius, both with subvariants with Digitaria ischaemum, as well as a typical variant of Echinochloo-Setarietum typicum, a variant with Juncus bufonius and a subvariant with Oxalis stricta in the typical and wet variant. Another association found in root crops on light soils of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu mesoregion is Digitarietum ischaemi. Its patches were observed in cultivations on light, acidic, poor soils. The characteristic feature of this community is the occurrence of numerous acidophilous species. In habitat conditions typical for the Podlaski Przełom Bugu mesoregion, Digitarietum ischaemi is differentiated into the typical and wet variant. Quite frequent patches of the Setaria pumila-Setaria viridis community were noted in intermediate habitat conditions, between those characteristic for Digitarietum ischaemi and Echinochloo-Setarietum.

Open and species-poor stands with a dominance of Alisma lanceolatum were recorded in periodically flooded habitats of the southern part of central Slovakia (Ipel' River catchment area) during the summer of 2013. Phytosociological relevés correspond to the association Eleocharito palustris-Alismatetum lanceolati (alliance Eleocharito palustris-Sagittarion sagittifoliae), which is reported and documented here for the first time from the territory of Slovakia. It inhabits predominantly temporarily flooded depressions on agricultural land - wet arable fields and extensively used pastures. Detrended correspondence analysis showed that the variability in species composition was most significantly influenced by water depth, the presence of arable fields in the contact area and water conductivity. Special attention was paid to a detailed description of the floristic composition, habitat requirements, distribution patterns and nomenclature of the community.

In the light of climate change, it is important to acquire the information on the diversity of flora in order to ensure rational use of steppe rangelands. The present study aimed at diagnosing the botanical and the taxonomic diversity of the arid steppe plant communities in South East of Algeria. A total of 216 phytoecological sampling, were collected in three sites and one sample for each month during 2017 and 2018. The vegetation was analyzed using various species diversity parameters (abundance, species richness, life forms, alpha and beta diversity indices and disturbance index). Results show that 985 plant individuals were classified into 27 species, 27 genera and 14 families, with predominance of Chenopodiaceae and Asteraceae in the arid steppe of El-Haouch, and remarkable dominance of Chamaephytic and Therophytic plants in different phytoecological groups. The state of vegetation degradation in a susceptible environment on Algeria’s rangeland in the South East which is confirmed by the low values of Shannon, Jaccard indices and the values of disturbance index ranged between 50 and 85.71%. The alpha diversity parameters of the different phytoecological groups have low values, which reflect a more fragile homogeneous ecosystem, unfavorable life conditions and the absence of certain species of high pastoral value.

This paper presents an analysis of changes in functional diversity of weeds in spring barley grown in the period 1990- 2004 in crop rotation after potato with a 25% share of this cereal (potato – spring barley – field pea – winter triticale) as well as in crop rotation with its 75% share (potato – spring barley – spring barley – spring barley) in which barley was grown once and twice after the same barley crop. No weed control was used in the present experiment. Every year in the spring (at full emergence of barley) and before harvest, the species composition and numbers of individual weed species were determined, as well as their weed biomass before harvest. On this basis, the selected functional diversity indices were calculated. Multidimensional techniques were used for dividing weeds into functional groups and for the determination of some of the indices. Potato/barley crop rotation with a 25% share of barley and growing spring barley once and twice after the same barley crop did not differentiate weed functional biodiversity. The weed functional diversity indices showed different variations over time. Higher variation was usually observed for the indices calculated for the summer communities compared to the spring ones. The strength and significance of the positive correlation between weed functional diversity and precipitation in the growing season and of the negative correlation with mean temperature for the period from April to August were dependent on the measure of diversity. The functional diversity indices showed high convergence. The FD and FAD indices proved to be interchangeable.

In 1998-2000, in the area of Olsztyn Lake District, 33 plant communities on seminatural grasslands with a high percentage of Achillea millefolium L. were analyzed. The analyzed objects were located on very light, light, medium and heavy mineral soils. The species composition was evaluated with Braun-Blanquet method. Soil samples were collected for chemicals analyses. In dry matter of Achillea millefolium L. the content of crude protein, crude fibre, crude ash and macroelements was determined. Meadow-pasture communities with high percentage of Achillea millefolium L. in sward are floristically very valuable, particularly those located on light and medium soils. Irrespective of soil type, Achillea millefolium L. was accompanied by Poa pratensis, Dactylis glomerata, Festuca rubra, Trifolium repens, Vicia cracca, Heracleum sibiricum and Taraxacum officinale. The heavy soils had a higher content of P, K, Mg, Ca and Na, whereas very light soils contained more humus. Achillea millefolium L. contained 110-121 g⋅kg-1 crude protein, 249- -309 g⋅kg-1 crude fibre and 97-123 g⋅kg-1crude ash, much P, K and Ca irrespective of soil type and much Mg (3.1 g⋅kg-1) on very light soils.

The purpose of this paper was to assess the impact of grazing methods on the indicators of vegetation and soil cover of pastures located in the semi-desert zone in the West of Kazakhstan. The experiment was carried out on 3 pastures with different grazing methods, and a reference plot with no grazing served as a control variant. Transects measuring 100*50 m were laid on pastures, where all regime observations of herbage indicators were carried out. Soil samples were taken in layers of 0–10, 10–20, and 20–30 cm with 3-fold repetition. The lowest indicators of yield (0.38 t/ha), projective coverage (45%), species composition (12 pieces), and herbage height (22 cm) were established on pastures with intensive grazing. Intensive grazing also reduced the quality of the soil, where a low content (0.83 percent) and reserves of humus (34.19 t/ha) and phosphorus (0.65 mg/100g) were found, and the soil compacted to 1.38 g/cm3, its structure decreased to 53.15%, the soil degraded to the 3rd degree and became moderately solonetzic. High values of vegetation and soil cover indicators were obtained on pastures with rotational grazing. In the rotational grazing variant, the yield difference compared to the control variant amounted to 0.41 t/ha, and the yield of feed units (0.07 t/ha), digestible protein (0.011 t/ha), and exchange energy (1.08 GJ/ha) had increased. A higher content of available phosphorus (0.95 mg/100g of soil), agronomically valuable structural aggregates (67.55%), a looser density (1.24 g/cm3), and weak salinity were found in the soil cover of rotational grazing pastures.

Opis:
The paper presents a community of water plants that is new to Poland, Veronico beccabungae-Callitrichetum stagnalis (Oberd. 1957) Müller 1962. This community belongs to the class Potametea. It was discovered in the village of Odrowąż near the town of Krapkowice in Silesia (SW Poland). Veronico beccabungae-Callitrichetum stagnalis in Poland occurs within an irregularly shaped shallow underwater spring, located in the distal part of the Oder River’s flood terrace. This plant community covered 0.2 ha in 2008. Callitriche stagnalis predominated in this community. Species such as Callitriche hamulata and Callitriche verna occurred less frequently. An average of five species were counted in a relevé. Alkaline sediments (pH 8.03) occur in the substratum, but sediments with a lower pH value (7.73) occur in the spring’s outflow zone towards the Odra River. Water in the spring, where Veronico beccabungae-Callitrichetum stagnalis occurred, has a medium mineralisation but is rich in dissolved compounds. The condition of this community within the studied habitat could be evidence for highly adaptive abilities and this community's good adjustment to the natural conditions. Veronico beccabungae-Callitrichetum stagnalis is a rare and endangered plant community in Central Europe. The locality of this plant community in Poland should be given species protection.

Opis:
The present study showed the ecological differentiation of phytocoenoses dominated either by Myriophyllum alterniflorum or by Littorella uniflora, which in Poland are classified within the Myriophylletum alterniflori or Myriophyllo-Littorelletum association. The properties which best differentiated the waters of the above types of phytocoenoses were calcium and factors associated with the carbonate complex (pH, electrolytic conductivity, total and carbonate hardness), and pH in the case of substrates. The most distinct differences in the habitats were found between the phytocoenoses dominated by L. uniflora from the Pomeranian Lobelia lakes and those dominated by M. alterniflorum from the Łęczna-Włodawa Lake District, in which other species from the Littorelletea uniflorae class were absent. The L. uniflora phytocoenoses are associated with soft waters poor in Ca2+ and with the lowest values of pH, electrolytic conductivity, dissolved organic matter (COD-KMnO4) and dissolved SiO2. The substrates they inhabit are mineral and more acidic. By contrast, the values of the above-mentioned properties are considerably higher in the case of the phytocoenoses from the Łęczna-Włodawa Lake District. The habitats of the M. alterniflorum phytocoenoses from the Pomeranian Lobelia lakes occupy an intermediate position and are more similar to those of M. alterniflorum from the Łęczna-Włodawa Lake District. The results obtained in this study suggest that the phytocoenoses of L. uniflora and M. alterniflorum should not be included in the same association. Further studies are, therefore, necessary to resolve this problem. The comparative analysis of the present ecological findings and data obtained from other regions of Europe show that in Poland the phytocoenoses dominated either by L. uniflora or by M. alterniflorum, in which the contribution of Littorelletea uniflorae species is appreciable, are clearly associated with soft waters and their habitats are representative of the Littorelletea uniflorae class. The massive development of the phytocoenoses with both L. uniflora and M. alterniflorum in the Lobelia lakes is not always indicative of the increase in water hardness and euthrophication of waters typical of the communities of the Littorelletea uniflorae class. The M. alterniflorum dominated phytocoenoses without other Littorelletea species could be good indicators of the above processes taking place in such water ecosystems.

The aim of this study was to characterise the flora and plant communities in the Moryńskie Hills, Poland. A total of 45 transects and 23 phytosociological relevés were established. Plant communities were identified based on the description of the test patch of the vegetation cover. The paper presents floristic analyses of vascular plants, which includes the taxonomic affiliation of species, their life forms according to Raunkiaer, and the species share in the geographical and historical groups. The results have been compiled and presented in tables and graphs, with a brief discussion. The non-forest communities occupy the largest area: xerothermic swards, meadows and pastures and to a lesser extent, scrub communities. Forests are represented by a riparian slope elm-ash wood Violo odoratae-Ulmetum minoris.

Opis:
Floristic research on segetal communities was carried out in 2000 on arable fields in the Skierbieszów Landscape Park and its protected zone. Three communities of segetal weeds in cereal crops, and two communities of segetal weeds in root crops were separated in the arable fields of the Skierbieszów Landscape Park. The community Vicietum tetraspermae typicum commonly occurred in cereal crops on brown soils developed from loess soils. The community Echinochloo-Setarietum, which belongs to root crops, was noted in the same habitat. The greatest richness of species was found in Consolido-Brometum and Lamio Veronicetum politae, with the average of 25 species in one record. Both communities were abundant in rare segetal species which are considered to be endangered in our country: Adonis aestivalis, Euphorbia exigua, Lathyrus tuberosus, Muscari comosum, Thlaspi perfoliatum, Veronica polita, Agrostemma githago.

Opis:
The available phytosociological data and original observations were used for preparing a list of plant communities with Sorbus torminalis on its natural sites in Poland. The community context of its sites showed a wide range: from pine-oak forests (alliance Dicrano-Pinion) and oak forests (Quercetalia robori-petraeae, Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae) to oak-hornbeam forests (Carpinion) and beech forests (Fagion). Oak-hornbeam forests (Carpinion) are the most frequent communities with S. torminalis in Poland. Despite this, oak forests (especially the open thermophilous forests of Quercetalia pubescenti-petraeae) seem to be the most suitable sites for growth and reproduction of this light-demanding tree species. Some remarks on S. torminalis conservation in the community context were also presented as its passive protection in some forest reserves has proved to be ineffective or even harmful.

Opis:
The results of phytosociological studies on the diversity of alder-ash and willow communities in the Pogórze Strzyżowskie foothills are presented. These communities, especially Carici remotae-Fraxinetum are increasingly rare in the landscape of the Carpathians. The paper supports new data allowing better understanding of the diversity of the Carici remotae-Fraxinetum in the southern Poland. On the basis of 59 phytosociological releves two sub-associations were identified: C.r.-F. chrysosplenietosum and C. r.-F. equisetetosum maximii and the form with Alnus incana. The association Carici remotae-Fraxinetum belongs to submontane regional form and to East Carpathian variant. The significance of Caltha palustris-Chaerophyllum hirsutum community is also presented, along with the role of Carex pendula and Matteucia struthiopteris. The paper provides also documentary data on sporadic occurrence of Salicetum triandro-viminalis and Salicetum albo-fragilis communities.
