Opis:
Rewards and punishments are an integral element of upbringing in a family. They shape attitudes educatively desirable and limit those undesirable. The presented article shows what kind of role rewards and punishments play in upbringing gifted children. On the basis of the narrative of parents recognizing their children as gifted, an analysis of parents’ educational strategies related to rewarding and punishment has been made. The results of the research have shown that parents of gifted children most often use rewards and punishments in domestic situations when they want to shape a specific attitude, achieve a specific effect in action or appreciate the efforts and achievements of children. It has turned out that parents do not use punishments to strengthen the development of children’s abilities. Rewards, especially praise and approval, are used when a parent feels proud of the effort or successes of his/her child.

Introduction. The reactions of the father and the mother to a child’s speech disfluency arelikely to differ. The question also arises as to what factors form their reactions. Aim. The aim of the study was the comparison of the mothers’ and the fathers’ reactions to a child’s speech impediment, the assessment of emotional intelligence presented by the parents of children who stutter, as well as establishing the relationship between the emotional intelligence of the parents and their reaction to a child’s speech impediment. Material and method. The research involved 30 mothers and 30 fathers of 3-6-year-old stutterers (comprising 22 boys and 8 girls). Results. Reactions of the mothers and fathers to a child’s speech disfluency are similar, whereas the intensity of emotional reactions towards sons was statistically significantly higher (p<0.05) in the mothers than in the fathers. Both the overall level of emotional intelligence and the levels for individual scales were statistically significantly higher in the mothers (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). A positive relationship of medium strength was found between the capacity for empathy and the cognitive scale as well as between the ability to control their own emotions and the behavioural scale in the mothers. In the fathers researched in this study, a positive relationship of medium strength between the ability to empathize and the emotional scale was observed. Conclusion. The level of emotional intelligence appears to be a factor which shapes parents’ reactions to children’s speech disfluency.

The aim of the research was to characterize the situation of intellectually disabled individuals and their families, with special stress on parents’ doubts and dilemmas which grow as their disabled children mature and enter adulthood. The subject of the study was to analyze the processual character of transformations related to bringing up children with intellectual disabilities that take place in generational families, in particular, those which are related to transformations on the level of parents’ perceptions, role, and identity. These notions were reconstructed on the basis of the personal experiences of parents of disabled children. The theoretical basis of the research was the concept of a trajectory of suffering, and the applied methodology was the grounded theory methodology.

Opis:
Numerous studies have found an association of educational aspirations of parents and children with their school achievement. The study verifies these relationships for about 5,000 people, a representative sample of parents and their children-primary school students. Three aspects of aspirations were taken into account: the maximum (desired), the feasible (expected) and the lowest acceptable. Expected aspirations of parents are mostly related to the achievements of children; students’ achievements are associated with both their feasible and maximum aspirations. There was a significant relationship between aspirations of parents and children and a strong correlation between parental aspirations and their level of education.

Opis:
Recent social, cultural and economic changes affect the lifecycle of both families and individuals, having considerable impact on scientifically defined stages, the time dedicated to them, and developmental tasks they are associated with. One of such stages is the move of an adult child out of the family home, which is more and more often put off at the time being. The phenomenon of delaying the moment of separating yourself from your parents is referred to as nesting. Sociological and demographic studies conducted so far show that living with custodians in spite of becoming mature is getting more and more popular among young adults in Poland. In-depth analyses show that even though financial factors (low income, low purchasing power of adult children and no employment) are a significant determinant of nesting in Poland, such decisions are triggered by other motives as well. Nesting, in spite of being an individual attitude, is always a shared experience and the outcome of forces and vectors with the family ecosystem. Nesters are not the only actors of the crowded nest arrangement. Custodians and sometimes also sibling play a significant role there too. This leads to another conclusion, i.e. that nesters are not the only beneficiaries of nesting, while parents are not the only ones who bear the consequences of this co-residency.

Opis:
The article presents the results of research focused on temperament of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The aim of the research was to estimate the way parents and teachers assess individual components of temperament of children with ADHD. Studies were also conducted in order to answer the question in what kind of environment (school or family) the temperamental incompatibility that leads to disturbances in the functioning of children with ADHD appears. The study was based on the concept of behavioural genetics by Arnold Buss and Robert Plomin. The authors of this concept have identified three basic features of temperament: emotionality, activity and sociability. In our research, we used the EAS Questionnaire created by Buss and Plomin. The research was carried out in a group composed of 30 children aged from 6 to 14. Studies have shown that teachers and parents evaluate children with ADHD in a different manner. Referring individual elements to criterial features of ADHD, particular attention was paid to activity and emotionality. Both features are demonstrated to a greater degree at school than in a family environment. It is worth emphasizing that activity, as well as emotionality, are genetically determined. This implies that ADHD is a problem that concerns not only the early years of life.

Even though the anicient Israel was a nation which all areas of life were adjusted by religion, that marriage was not connected with no cult institution. Even so, in the feeling of each Israelite, it had saint character. It resulted from the God created first humans as a man and woman as equal each other and meant to common and social life. They were differed for the sake of their gender. That gender difference was simultaneously a task for spouses. They should have known each other not only sexually and physically, but also emotionally and personally. It that way it came into existence the community which was indissoluble. This conviction follows from utterance of the Old Testament. Exceeding these rules violated the sanctity of mariage as a social institution and acted deep cranny not only in the mariage but in all national community. The elementary aim of Israeli marriage was having offspring and then sons had more privileges than daughters. Marriage in Israel could be dissolved when the man gave his wife so called note of divorce.

Today one cannot understand the communication, interaction of people, and their professional development without the use of smartphones, iPads, laptops, etc. New parents are facing personal challenges in using technology. At the same time, they are confused about parenting in the digital age, while children are in their infancy for the development of digital competence. The purpose of this qualitative research is to shed light on how parents of different social backgrounds use technology for themselves and in what ways their children are exposed to technology and given the opportunity to use it themselves. The study sample was 29 Albanian parents, who had children aged 5-6 years. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which were processed based on thematic analysis as well as labelling and coding techniques. It was noted that the duration of use of Media Technology by children and the purpose of use vary depending on the age, educational level of parents, their professions, how parents themselves use technology, but also the number of children in the family. The findings of this study guide targeted interventions for media technology education for parents, but at the same time can be used by the policymakers and pedagogical staff to find new strategies to be able to use the paradigm of media pedagogy more effectively, in order to improve the experience and the outcomes of digital learning for preschool children.

Ample research has been done on rumination and mental health. However, minimum effort has been exerted to investigate these variables among parents of differently-abled children. The presented study investigates the relationship between rumination and mental health among parents of differently-abled children. The study also aimed to revisit the psychometric characteristics of the rumination scale. Two hundred parents were selected from different rehabilitation schools of the Kashmir Valley. The mean age and standard deviation of the respondents were 40.04 and 5.31, respectively. Results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated that model fit for the rumination scale was poor (c2 /df = 2.33; CFI =.65; AGFI;.76; RMSEA;.08; TLI;.61), whereas the model fit of the mental health was excellent. A negative relationship was found between rumination and mental health on the composite score as well as on their dimensions.

The aim of the paper was to assess the growing interest – among both the general public and academia – in the phenomenon of picturebook apps, i.e. products for children dedicated to mobile devices with touchscreens. As the object of interest 4 picturebook apps were chosen, which in different ways present topics connected with social issues (exclusion, sexuality, “otherness”). A selected sample of pre-school children parents were presented with the apps and then interviewed (qualitative research) in order to collect their opinions regarding both the apps and the topics raised in their content. The acquired data documents different attitudes towards the apps – ranging from very open to close minded.

Purpose: We assessed the quality of life of children with motor disabilities in comparison with healthy children, as evaluated by their parents, using the CHQ-PF28 questionnaire (Child Health Questionnaire—Parent Form). Materials and methods: In a prospective study, we evaluated the quality of life of 105 children with motor disabilities. Results: Our research showed lower quality of life in the group of children with motor disabilities compared with controls, both in terms of physical and psychosocial health. Significant correlations between independent walking and physical functioning, general behavior, and mental health of children suffering from motor disabilities were found. According to the average indices of quality of life of children suffering from motor disabilities, depending on sex, the greatest differences occurred in behavior and change of health status, while the smallest differences in self-esteem and parental involvement, compared with controls. In the case of healthy children, the largest differences appeared in the perception of pain, behavior, and self-esteem; whereas, the smallest variations occurred in the change of health status and physical activity. Conclusion: Children suffering from motor disabilities demonstrate lower quality of life compared with healthy children.
