In this article I compare Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics and Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction. I try to demonstrate the similarities (focus on language and history), but moreover the differences between them. The core issue is the problem of the other, which appears in the works of both authors. Two perspectives are applied: concerning the notion of text (or tradition), and referring to the field of the political. Gadamer strives to communicate with the other (text) in the mutual understanding, although he has no hope in finding a final sensus communis. Derrida emphasizes the difference underlying every thought, as well as situations of understanding as such. As a result, their visions of democracy differ – subtly, but essentially.

Opis:
The aim of the text taken in this text is to present the construct of sexual education as other in the educational discourse. I found interesting here the areas of constructing and categorizing this field of education at school in the context of other activities carried out in it, as well as the pedagogical consequences of this state of affairs. Giving birthmarks of otherness concerns not so much the subject that represents this field of education, but the actions affecting its specific constitution in the school's program. You can indicate here: involvement in the creation of a program of representatives of the two ministries, the possibility of negotiating the scope of content carried out on these classes by parents and adult students and the possible refusal to participate in them. As specific, one may further consider the construction of a name for an object in which the determinant: sexual does not appear. The practical exclusion of this subject from the group of those that are subject to evaluation seems to serve to avoid negative social reactions.
Celem podjętych w tym tekście rozważań stanie się ukazanie konstruktu wychowania seksualnego jako innego w dyskursie edukacyjnym. Za interesujące uznałam tu obszary konstruowania  i kategoryzowania tej dziedziny wychowania w szkole na tle innych realizowanych w niej zajęć,  a także pedagogiczne konsekwencje tego stanu rzeczy. Nadanie znamion inności dotyczy nie tyle samego przedmiotu reprezentującego tę dziedzinę wychowania, ile zabiegów oddziałujących na jego określoną konstytucję w programie szkoły. Można tu wskazać na zaangażowanie w tworzenie dlań programu reprezentantów dwóch resortów, możliwość negocjowania zakresu treści realizowanych na tych zajęciach przez rodziców oraz pełnoletnich uczniów i ewentualnej odmowy w nich udziału. Za specyficzne można dalej uznać skonstruowanie nazwy dla przedmiotu, w której nie pojawia się określnik: seksualny. Uniknięciu niekorzystnych reakcji społecznych wydaje się służyć również praktyczne wyłączenie tego przedmiotu z grupy tych, które podlegają ewaluacji.

This article is a comparative analysis between Charles Taylor's and Martin Heidegger's philosophy focusing on three main terms: mine-ness, other and world.  It is a search for similarities and differences between these terms.In the view of results, mine-ness appears to be the most similar aspect of these two philosophies.  It is a core term used for describing both Dasein and self. Close similarities have been marked for the "world" as well. These parallels are based on philosophers understanding of this word, of what it means to "self" and how this includes "others". The article is divided into three parts, each dedicated to one of the main themes of this work.Concluding, although there are some similarities and differences between Taylor's and Heidegger's philosophies and that there is a significant time gap between the main works concerning discussed in this article issues, what makes them most alike is how still up-to-date these philosophies are.

The starting point for consideration is to put the Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophy into question whether the status of “absolute Otherness” may also belong to the Other other than man. On the basis of the thought of Levinas it receives a negative responseand it is because of his involvement in the so-called anthropological machine (which he shares with Martin Heidegger and some other critics of metaphysics). But it is, however, possible to open the (broadly defined) phenomenological ethical thought drew on the achievements of Levinas to the question of the animal. This attempt might be centered around the proposals of Jacques Derrida, the author of the essay The Animal That Therefore I Am (More To Follow), where he spoke about the singularity of each animal, the problematic status of border between man and animal,and the being-with animals as a full-fledged modality of being. This is a provocative thought which asks us about our attitude to such issues as “responsibility” and “responsiveness”, “carno-phallogocentrism”, or the status of non-human animals. Derrida’s thought is here very close to some kind of phenomenological language, but it is rather the phenomenology of the otherness than the phenomenology of intentional subject. The same phenomenology that we find in Bernhard Waldenfels’s or John D. Caputo’s writing.

Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu przygotowanie badacza literaturoznawcy do prowadzenia dociekań imagologicznych. Tekst ma więc z jednej strony charakter wprowadzający i instrukcyjny, z drugiej zaś przeglądowy i syntetyczny. Składają się nań cztery części: 1) wyjaśnienie trzech podstawowych pojęć imagologicznych: innego/obcego, obrazu oraz etnotypu; 2) omówienie sposobu doboru materiału źródłowego do badań imagologicznych; 3) charakterystyka możliwych sposobów opracowania wyselekcjonowanego materiału tekstowego, a zatem możliwych profili badań imagologicznych; 4) prezentacja kilku najważniejszych ustaleń imagologii i wskazanie związanych z nimi momentów analizy imagologicznej, w których badacz winien zachować szczególną ostrożność.
The aim of this study is to prepare the literary researcher to conduct imagological research. The text is therefore introductory and instructional on the one hand and reviewing and synthetic on the other. It consists of four parts: (1) an explanation of three basic imagological concepts: other / alien, image, and ethnotype; (2) a discussion of the way in which source material for imagological research is collected; (3) the characteristics of the possible ways of developing the selected text material and therefore possible profiles of imagological research; (4) a presentation of some of the most important findings of imagology and an indication of the related moments of imagological analysis, in which the scholar should exercise particular caution.

Tekst podejmuje zagadnienie inności, które stało się w ostatnich latach zajmujące, ale i kłopotliwe. Na co dzień doświadczamy bowiem różnych przejawów dyskryminacji, podejrzliwości, wykluczenia, które powodują nieporozumienia, podziały, konflikty. Wszystkie te okoliczności sprawiają, że inność jest traktowana przez współczesnych myślicieli, także teologów, jako palący problem. Myśl teologiczna, nawiązując do bogatej tradycji chrześcijańskiej wiary, w której głównym innym jest transcendentny Bóg, próbuje na nowo przemyśleć znaczenie tej prawdy we współczesnym kontekście. Może zaoferować w ten sposób rozumienie inności, które wypływa z refleksji nad Trójcą Świętą, w której trzy Osoby stoją w stosunku inności, gdzie ich nieredukowalne rozróżnienie staje się warunkiem możliwości ich relacji. Model ten stanowi propozycję dalszych poszukiwań sensu inności, zwłaszcza w obszarach: antropologii, socjologii, etyki, edukacji. W tekście ukazane są także niektóre stanowiska współczesnych myślicieli, którzy czerpiąc inspirację z tradycji chrześcijańskiej, rozwijają hermeneutykę inności.
This text is an attempt to question of otherness, which has become in recent years involved, but also troublesome. Every day we experience various forms of discrimination, suspicion, exclusion, that cause misunderstandings divisions, conflicts. These circumstances make the difference (otherness) is treated by contemporary thinkers, including theologians, as an urgent problem. Theological thought, referring to the rich tradition of the Christian faith, in which the main Other is the transcendent God, trying to rethink the importance of this truth in the modern context. This thought can offer in the way of understanding otherness, that comes from reflection on the Trinity, in which three Persons stand in respect of otherness, where the irreducible distinction becomes a condition for the possibility of their relationship. This model is a proposal for further exploration sense of otherness, especially in the areas: anthropology, sociology, ethics, education. In the text are shown the position of some modern thinkers, who are drawing inspiration from the Christian tradition, develop hermeneutics otherness.

The article presents the results of the research on the definitional view of the Other/Other, the sources of knowledge and personal experiences of the respondents relating to people different from them. In the first part of the article, the definitions of Otherness/Alien according to different authors are cited and the difference of these two conceptual categories is shown. In the next part of the paper, the negative reactions of society to otherness/ foreignness are presented, with particular emphasis on racist and xenophobic attitudes. Research showing the scale of pejorative behavior toward Otherness/ foreignness in Polish society is presented. The third part of the study presents the results of the author’s research on the relations of students of the University of Rzeszow and the State Higher School of Technology and Economics in Jaroslaw with Others/Aliens, who are part of their immediate environment, including students. The analysis of the research results is an attempt to answer the question “Who is the Other/Other in the perception of students?”.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące definicyjnego ujęcia Innego/Obcego, źródeł wiedzy oraz osobistych doświadczeń badanych, odnoszących się do osób od nich odmiennych. W pierwszej części artykułu zostały przytoczone definicje Innego/Obcego w ujęciu różnych autorów oraz ukazano różnicę tych dwóch kategorii pojęciowych. W dalszej części opracowania przedstawione zostały negatywne reakcje społeczeństwa na inność/obcość ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem postaw rasistowskich i ksenofobicznych. Zaprezentowane zostały wyniki dotychczasowych badań ukazujących skalę pejoratywnych zachowań wobec Innych/Obcych w społeczeństwie polskim. W trzeciej części opracowania przedstawiono wyniki autorskich badań dotyczące relacji studentów Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego i Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Techniczno-Ekonomicznej w Jarosławiu z Innymi/Obcymi, będących częścią ich najbliższego otoczenia, w tym studenckiego. Analiza wyników badań stanowi próbę udzielenia odpowiedzi na pytanie: „Kim jest Inny/Obcy w percepcji studentów?” oraz „Jakie są relacje badanych z Innymi/Obcymi?”.

This paper aims at the presentation of ethical and political grounds of the pedagogy of asylum, which, in its assumptions, refers to concepts of such thinkers as Emmanuel Levinas, Erich Fromm, George Steiner, Hannah Arendt, Michael Walzer, Avishai Margalit, Jacques Derrida and Janusz Korczak. Utopia of hospitality, presented in its basic assumptions, constitutes a look at the social life, life of individuals and communities, as concentrated in asylums, while its author thinks that it forms an answer to modern challenges to Western democracies, education and politics in the “Age of Migration”.

SummaryIn this contribution I try to show how E. Stein, E. Levinas and P. Ricoeurexpress their disagreement with Heideggerian conception of being-towards-death and propose their vision of eternity and its experience. The three main images are commented:the death as a discontinuity and condition of a new life, suspension of the time to the resurrection by the other, the intensification of the experience of time.

Otherness is encountered, noticed and, as the case may be, analyzed in a relation, because it is in a relation that the identity of I and the identity of You is revealed, and our identity is basically rooted in the individual constitution of a specific I and a specific You. The aim of the present study is to probe the phenomenon of otherness (alterity), and through it the fundamental question of who is the other we encounter, and next to show the main ways of experiencing the encounter with the other, whichalways occurs in the sphere of good and evil. In Józef Tischner’s view the experience of the other is a fundamental one, in that it reveals much of our own self-experience. My encounter with the other also throws into relief myself as the other and the fact that his otherness is different from mine. In the beginning of this discovery of otherness, the gap between I and You appears to be unbridgeable. But Tischner believes that the sensation of separateness and even of “being alien” assumes a kind of similarity,with the proviso that the latter occurs on the plane of our mutual being foreach other. Tischner stresses otherness in similarity and similarity in otherness, both constituted and coexistent in the relation between I and You. Tischner’s idea involves a paradox: to open oneself to the alterity of the other, we have in a way to “bear” our own otherness and thereby to come to be “for the other”.

CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest odtworzenie obrazu cudzoziemców będących bohaterami współczesnego podręcznika do nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego i kultury polskiej Po polsku po Polsce w aspekcie ich przeżywania spotkania z polską kulturą i rozpoznania w niej swojej sytuacji w kategoriach obcy/ inny – swój. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Za podstawę rozpoznania sytuacji cudzoziemca w świecie polskiej kultury rozumianej w kategoriach obcy/ inny – swój przyjęto pojęcie dystansu do niej. Metodą badawczą jest analiza wypowiedzi bohaterów, które zawierają informacje o nich i przekazują ich sądy, a w rezultacie pozwalają wnioskować o istniejącym dystansie kulturowym. PROCES WYWODU: Wywód podporządkowany jest przedstawieniu poszczególnych aspektów wizerunku bohaterów. Kolejno analizowane są: obyczaje żywieniowe, sposób spędzania wolnego czasu, stosunek do własnej tożsamości etnicznej, do języka polskiego, historii i kultury polskiej. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Cudzoziemscy bohaterowie podręcznika przedstawieni są w sposób, który niemal niweluje ich wyjściową odległość od kultury polskiej. Odnoszą się oni do niej bardzo pozytywnie lub entuzjastycznie, identyfikują się z nią, odnajdując się w niej jako swoi. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Kreowanie cudzoziemskiego bohatera podręcznika do języka obcego jako osoby od początku odnajdującej się w nowej kulturze jako swój nie wspiera studenta w odnajdywaniu własnego miejsca w jej przestrzeni, nie wspomaga też nauczyciela w kształceniu wrażliwości interkulturowej studentów. Warto na ten aspekt zwrócić uwagę przyszłych autorów podręczników.  
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The article aims at recreating the images of foreigners who appear as protagonists in a contemporary textbook for teaching Polish as a foreign language Po polsku po Polsce. The images are highlighted in the aspect of the protagonists’ experiencing an encounter with Polish culture and recognizing their situation in it in terms of the stranger / the other – ours. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The concept of a cultural gap is adopted as a crite- rion for recognizing the foreigners’ situation understood in terms of the stranger/ the other – ours. The research method is an analysis of the heroes’ statements, which contain information and convey their judgements and, as a result, make it possible to conclude about the occurrence of cultural distance. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The process of argumentation is subordinated to the presentation of particular aspects of the characters’ image. Subsequently, the following are analyzed: eating habits, ways of spending free time, attitudes towards one’s own ethnic identity, to- wards the Polish language, Polish history and culture. RESEARCH RESULTS: Foreigners are presented in the textbook in a way that minimizes their initial distance from Polish culture to the possible extreme. They relate to it very positively or even enthusiastically, they identify with it and find themselves in it as ours. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Creating a foreign protagonist appearing in a textbook for teaching a foreign language as a person who from the very beginning adapts flawlessly to a new culture does not support students’ efforts to find their own space in it, nor does it support a teacher in developing students’ intercultural sensitivity. The future textbook authors should pay attention to this aspect.

W niniejszym artykule poruszony został problem integracji w kulturze europejskiej. Proces integracyjny stanowi ważny element każdej kultury. W kulturze europejskiej pojawił się on na samym początku, gdy kultura ta powstawała, i trwa przez cały czas jej rozwoju, choć przybiera różne formy w zależności od sytuacji społeczno-politycznej. Współczesna integracja nawiązuje do XVIII-wiecznego kształtowania się państw narodowych i konfrontacji z uniwersalnymi wartościami. Stosunek do innych kultur i tożsamość europejska odsyłają do takich wartości, jak wspólne dobro, wolność czy odpowiedzialność. Jak pokazuje filozofia XX-wieku, ważnym elementem stała się relacja między ja i innym, drugim. Wartości kształtują się między nami. Przez ten pryzmat możemy dostrzec problem migracji, której podstawą jest walka o prawa człowieka. Wokół tej walki powstaje tożsamość europejska. Relacje międzyludzkie ukazują znaczenie i sens migracji, która inspiruje Europę do pogłębionej integracji.
In this article is presented the problem of integration in European culture. The integration process is an important element of European culture. It appears at the beginning when this culture arose as a result of taking over some elements of other cultures in its development. Contemporary integration refers to the eighteenth-century formation of nation-states and confrontation with universal values. Attitude towards other cultures and European identity refers to such values as common good, freedom or responsibility. As the philosophy of the twentieth century shows, an important element has become the relationship between me and another, the interlocutor. The experiences of values constitute between us. Through this lens, we can observe the problem of migration, which is based on the fight for human rights. It is around her that European identity is created. These interpersonal relationships reveal the meaning and sense of migration, which for Europe are inspirations for deeper integration.

CEL NAUKOWY: Ukazanie problematyki oswajania obcości przez wprowadzenie do narracji społeczno-wychowawczej kategorii Innego jako implikacji dla edukacji międzykulturowej. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Postrzeganie obcości w kontekście źródłowego doświadczenia Innego. W badaniu zastosowano metodę analizy danych zastanych (desk research) oraz krytyczną interdyscyplinarną analizę źródeł, dokonano metaanalizy pojęć i kategorii stanowiących tytułowy problem badawczy. PROCES WYWODU: Jako drogę do zrozumienia i oswojenia obcości proponuje się budowanie dialogicznych relacji w przestrzeni spotkania. Służą one rozwijaniu twórczych orientacji życiowych niezbędnych w kształtowania postawy otwartości, twórczego rozumienia i akceptacji Innego. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Pojęcie Obcego i obcości zostało ukazane w ujęciu różnych analiz źródłowych. Kategorię Innego zaproponowano jako łącznik między obcością i swojskością. Stanowi ona zasadniczą propozycję metodyczną jako działanie wpisujące się w rozwijanie twórczych orientacji życiowych. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Analizy teoretyczne wskazanych kategorii prowadzą do implikacji pedagogicznych i edukacyjnych w kontekście kształtowania przestrzeni spotkania, rozwijania postawy dialogicznej i twórczego rozumienia odmienności w edukacji międzykulturowej.
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: Showing the issue of taming strangeness by introducing the category of the Other into the socio-educational narrative as an implication for intercultural education. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: Perceiving strangeness in the context of the source experience of the Other. The study used the method of desk research and critical interdisciplinary analysis of sources, meta-analysis of concepts and categories constituting the title research problem. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Building dialogic relations in the meeting space is proposed as a way to understand and tame strangeness. They serve to develop creative life orientations necessary in shaping the attitude of openness, creative understanding and acceptance of the Other. RESEARCH RESULTS: The concept of the Stranger and strangeness has been presented in terms of various source analyses. The category of the Other was proposed as a link between strangeness and familiarity. It is a fundamental methodological proposal as an activity that is part of the development of creative life orientations. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Theoretical analysis of the indicated categories lead to pedagogical and educational implications in the context of shaping the meeting space, developing a dialogical attitude and creative understanding of differences in intercultural education.

CEL NAUKOWY: Celem artykułu jest próba rekonstrukcji utrwalonych w językowym obrazie świata studentów wyobrażeń o innym, obcym i wrogu. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Problem badawczy jest głosem w dyskusji na temat znaczeń kulturowych zawartych w pojęciach: inny, obcy, wróg. Zakres semantyczny tych leksemów jest warunkowany kontekstem pojawiających się pod jego wpływem emocji oraz wynikających z nich opisów wartościujących.  PROCES WYWODU: Wywód rozpoczęto od uzasadnienia wyboru problematyki badawczej ze wskazaniem założeń badawczych językowego obrazu świata jako teoretyczno-metodologicznego podejścia do analiz pojęcia inności/obcości/wrogości w kontekście pojęcia tożsamości. W drugiej kolejności omówiona została wykorzystana metodologia badawcza i zastosowane kryteria klasyfikacji i opisu materiału empirycznego. Trzecią część opracowania stanowi analiza wyników badań i wynikające z niej wnioski. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Przeprowadzone badanie wykazuje, że pojęcia innego, obcego i wroga zawierają treści dostrzegane i podzielane przez większość badanych. Z perspektywy analiz językoznawczych szczególnie interesująca jest dwoistość pól semantycznych budowanych wokół wskazanych wyżej leksemów. Pierwsze z nich – denotacyjne – jest dostępne i opisane z określonej liczby perspektyw w słownikach języka polskiego. Natomiast drugie – konotacyjne – w związku z tym, że jest warunkowane indywidualnymi regułami percepcji i subiektywną oceną, już nie tak jednoznacznie określa wzajemne relacje między znakami opisującymi fakty i symbole z życia wspólnoty a wyobrażeniami o nich, które utrwaliły się w świadomości językowej respondentów. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Percepcja świata według reguł podziału na swoje – inne/obce/wrogie jest właściwością człowieka. Z pewnością z tego powodu figury innego/obcego/ wroga wykorzystywane są w celach propagandowych. Stanowiąc podstawę dla prezentacji i identyfikacji zagrożeń wewnętrznych lub zewnętrznych, mogą one z taką samą siłą utrwalać stereotypy i uprzedzenia zakorzenione od dawna, jak i aktywizować nowe, które będąc podstawą proce- sów społecznej dyskryminacji i stygmatyzacji jednostek lub grup, prowadzą do ich wykluczenia.  
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of article is an attempt at reconstructing the images of other, foreign and enemy, fixed in the linguistic picture of the world of students. THE PROBLEM AND RESEARCH METHODS: The research problem is placed in the context of the discussion on the cultural meanings contained in the terms: other, foreign, enemy.  THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The argumentation began with the justification of selecting the research issues with an indication of the research assumptions of imagology as a theoretical and methodological approach to the analysis of the concept of otherness/strangeness/hostility in the context of the concept of identity. Secondly, both the research methodology applied and the criteria for classifying and describing the empirical material were discussed. The third part of the study is the analysis of the research results and the conclusions. RESEARCH RESULTS: On the basis of the analysis, it can be claimed that the terms other, alien and enemy hide many meanings and universal contents. From the perspective of linguistic analyses, the dual nature of the concepts discussed is particularly interesting. The denotative nature, multifaceted grounded is described in the dictionaries of the Polish language, it is a concrete reference to reality. The connotative one results from the fact that the features of the analysed objects are transferred to a wide range of facts from social life, and therefore, the symbolic relationship between the objects of the external world and the ideas about them functioning in the minds of the respondents ceases to be unambiguous. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS: Perceiving and experiencing the world according to the dichotomy of one’s own – other/foreigner/enemy is typical for each of us. More and more frequently, however, the concepts of the other/foreigner/enemy are used for propaganda purposes.

The purpose of this article is to present ethical and social thoughts of two eminent philosophers of the 20th century, E. Lévinas and K. Wojtyła in reference to the coherence of their thoughts and their mutual complementarity. Both had similar intentions of creating the preconditions that ensure peace and social order. Both lived through totalitarian regimes, witnessed the deaths of many people, experienced the decline of mankind and therefore raised very important questions about the causes of these twentieth-century moral disasters. However, there are important differences between the two thinkers, concerning the understanding of subjectivity, their positions on the whole heritage of Western philosophy, ontology, as well as opposing attitudes. Where Wojtyła searches for participation, Lévinas proposes separation. It seems that the philosophy of Lévinas shows some kind of inability to rise above the history of one’s own nation.
Celem artykułu jest zbadanie możliwości zbudowania etyki społecznej na podstawie koncepcji etycznych dwóch wybitnych filozofów XX wieku E. Lévinasa i K. Wojtyły. Pierwszy z nich opiera swoją etykę na pojęciu „Inności”, drugi na pojęciu „Bliźni”. Koncepcje te są przeanalizowane i zestawione w poszukiwaniu różnic i podobieństw między nimi. Wydaje się, że do zbudowania spójnej etyki społecznej bardziej nadaje się koncepcja etyczna Karola Wojtyły, nie można bowiem zbudować etyki społecznej bez właściwej koncepcji podmiotowości. W koncepcji Lévinasa rola „Ja” jest pomniejszona, liczy się natomiast „Drugi”. Lévinas wprowadza jeszcze figurę „Trzeciego”, która ma umożliwić zbudowanie etyki społecznej, także w jej wymiarze instytucjonalnym, jest to jednak nieprzekonywujące i niespójne z innymi założeniami francuskiego filozofa.
