Opis:
Our aim is to adapt Fletcher's filter approach to solve optimal control problems for systems described by nonlinear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) with state constraints. To this end, we propose a number of modifications of the filter approach, which are well suited for our purposes. Then, we discuss possible ways of cooperation between the filter method and a PDE solver, and one of them is selected and tested.

Opis:
In this paper we consider a class of distributed parameter systems (partial differential equations) determined by strongly nonlinear operator valued measures in the setting of the Gelfand triple V ↪ H ↪ V* with continuous and dense embeddings where H is a separable Hilbert space and V is a reflexive Banach space with dual V*. The system is given by
dx + A(dt,x) = f(t,x)γ(dt) + B(t)u(dt), x(0) = ξ, t ∈ I ≡ [0,T]
where A is a strongly nonlinear operator valued measure mapping Σ × V to V* with Σ denoting the sigma algebra of subsets of the set I and f is a nonlinear operator mapping I × H to H, γ is a countably additive bounded positive measure and the control u is a suitable vector measure. We present existence, uniqueness and regularity properties of weak solutions and then prove the existence of optimal controls (vector valued measures) for a class of control problems.

Opis:
The problem of cooperation of Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms with steady-state economic optimisation is investigated in this paper. It is particularly important when the dynamics of disturbances is comparable with the dynamics of the process, since in such a case the classical hierarchical multilayer structure is likely to be not efficient and give the economic yield smaller than expected. This is because the economic nonlinear optimisation problem cannot be then solved on-line to update the optimal operating point as frequently as needed. On the other hand, simple target set-point optimisation based on linear models can be also insufficiently accurate. This paper introduces approximate formulations of the target set-point optimisation problem which tightly cooperates with the MPC and is solved as frequently as the MPC controller executes. Linear, linear-quadratic and piecewise-linear formulations are discussed, tuning guidelines are also given.

Opis:
In this paper, model reference output feedback tracking control of an aircraft subject to additive, uncertain, nonlinear disturbances is considered. In order to present the design steps in a clear fashion: first, the aircraft dynamics is temporarily assumed as known with all the states of the system available. Then a feedback linearizing controller minimizing a performance index while only requiring the output measurements of the system is proposed. As the aircraft dynamics is uncertain and only the output is available, the proposed controller makes use of a novel uncertainty estimator. The stability of the closed loop system and global asymptotic tracking of the proposed method are ensured via Lyapunov based arguments, asymptotic convergence of the controller to an optimal controller is also established. Numerical simulations are presented in order to demonstrate the feasibility and performance of the proposed control strategy.

Opis:
W artykule zaprezentowano adaptacyjny układ sterowania kątem kursowym i prędkością statku opisanego nieliniowym modelem dynamicznym MIMO (ang. Multi-input, Multi-Output) o czterech stopniach swobody ruchu (ang. Four-Degrees-of-Freedom, 4-DoF).
In the paper an adaptive control system for the nonlinear 4-DoF model of a container vessel is presented. The considered model of the ship includes input signals saturations and dynamics of actuators. Main goal of the presented control system is control of the course angle and speed of the ship relative to water. The system synthesis is carried out by means of LQ-optimal control method. Sets of controller parameters are designed using linearization of the considered model in the nominal steady-state operating points of the ship. The final part of the paper includes simulation results of control system operation with full nonlinear MIMO model of the container vessel.

Opis:
This work aims to improve and simplify the procedure used in the Control Adjoining Cell Mapping with Reinforcement Learning (CACM-RL) technique, for the tuning process of an optimal contro ller during the pre-learning stage (controller design), making easier the transition from a simulation environment to the real world. Common problems, encountered when working with CACM-RL, are the adjustment of the cell size and the long-term evolution error. In this sense, the main goal of the new approach, developed for CACM-RL that is proposed in this work (CACMRL*), is to give a response to both problems for helping engineers in defining of the control solution with accuracy and stability criteria instead of cell sizes. The new approach improves the mathematical analysis techniques and reduces the engineering effort during the design phase. In order to demonstrate the behaviour of CACM-RL*, three examples are described to show its application to real problems. In All the examples, CACM-RL* improves with respect to the considered alternatives. In some cases, CACM- RL* improves the average controllability by up to 100%.

Opis:
A controller architecture for nonlinear systems described by Gaussian RBF neural networks is proposed. The controller is a stabilising solution to a class of nonlinear optimal state tracking problems and consists of a combination of a state feedback stabilising regulator and a feedforward neuro-controller. The state feedback stabilising regulator is computed online by transforming the tracking problem into a more manageable regulation one, which is solved within the framework of a nonlinear predictive control strategy with guaranteed stability. The feedforward neuro-controller has been designed using the concept of inverse mapping. The proposed control scheme is demonstrated on a simulated single-link robotic manipulator.

Opis:
Designing variable structure control with sliding mode (VSC-SM) control schemes needs a switching function or a sliding surface which guarantees the global stability of the closed-loop system. Despite the fact that a wide range of design approaches has been proposed for solving this mathematical problem, the number of proposed methodologies for nonlinear systems is not very extensive, especially for discrete time nonlinear MIMO systems, and most of them require some coordinate system transformation. Therefore, it is not an easy task to find a design scheme that can be applied to discrete time nonlinear MIMO systems. The proposed methodology introduces a mathematical tool: a switching surface equation for a class of MIMO nonlinear systems through an explicit equation without any coordinate transformation. This equation makes use of an implicit linearizing process via the Taylor expansion that allows the use of linear procedures for the design of switching surfaces and the forward Euler method to obtain a discrete time dynamics representation. An illustrative example is included to show the advantages of the proposed design methodology.

We consider an opitmal control problem for systems defined by nonlinear hyperbolic partial differential equations with state constraints. Since no convexity assumptions are made on the data, we also consider the control problem in relaxed form. We discretize both the classical and the relaxed problenms by using a finite element method in space and a finite difference scheme in time, the controls being approximated by piecevise constant ones. We develop the existence theory and the necessary conditions for optimality, for the continous and the discrete problems. Finally, we study the behaviour in the limit of discrete optimality, admissibility and extremality properties.

Opis:
This paper presents a concept of designing fault tolerant control systems with the use of suboptimal methods. We assume that a given (nonlinear) dynamical process is described in a state space. The method consists in searching (at the off-line stage) for a trajectory of operational points of the system state space. The sought trajectory can be constrained by certain conditions, which can express faults or failures already detected. Within this approach, we are able to use the autonomous dynamics of the process in order to minimize a control cost index (a sub-optimality property). The search itself is based on finding a cheapest path in a graph structure, which represents the system’s dynamics described in the state space. Such a cheapest path (if it exists) represents the sought trajectory. Another (on-line) design stage consists in tracking this trajectory by an executive controller.
