Opis:
In this paper the results of neat polyamide 6 (PA6), processed matrix and polyamide 6 reinforced with montmorillonite 3 wt% (PA6/MMT), surface examination are presented. Examination of surface of the samples was performed using optical profilometry, which allows to measure their physical properties in non-invasive method. Based on the analysis of the radiation intensity of the reflected light from the surface the Fourier Transform was performed, to allow the analysis of images obtained in the frequency domain.

Opis:
Not all kinds of polymeric composites which are not traditional GRPs deserve to be called nanocomposites. In this paper, among others, this question is discussed, based on the structure of the most popular nanofiller called montmorillonite, which is extracted from a certain kind of clay. It is shown what factors determine obtaining a material which can be regarded as a nanocomposite and when it is only a microcomposite. The basic terminology (packets, gallery etc.) concerning the raw montmorillonite is thoroughly explained as well as the behaviour of this filler when building up a nanocomposite. Also the methods of changing the mode of the nanofiller from hydrophilic to organophilic, as a result of high cation exchange capacity (CEC), are shown. The conditions of the delamination and intercalation phenomena being the result of polymer-nanofiller interaction are discussed as well as the method of small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) which enables to determine which of the above phenomena (if any) has taken place.
W pracy przedstawiono klasyfikację kompozytów o osnowie polimerowej GRP ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem grupy nanokompozytów. Przeprowadzono dyskusję tego zagadnienia. Przyjęto do analizy popularny nanonapełniacz – montmorylonit, wytwarzany z pewnego rodzaju gliny. Określono warunki delaminacji i interkalacji – rezultat wzajemnego oddziaływania polimer – nanonapełniacz. Omówiono również metodę małokątowego rozpraszania promieni rentgenowskich (SAXS) stosowaną do charakterystyki przedstawionych zjawisk.

Opis:
This paper deals with mechanical buckling of polyethylene/clay nanocomposite beams of functionally graded and uniformly distributed of nanoclay subjected to axial compressive load with simply supported conditions at both ends. The Young moduli of functionally graded and uniformly distributed nanocomposites are calculated using a genetic algorithm procedure and then compared with experimental results. The formulation is modified to include the effect of nanoparticles weight fractions in the calculation of the Young modulus for uniform distribution. Also, it is modified to take into account the Young modulus as a function of the thickness coordinate. The displacement field of the beam is assumed based on the Engesser-Timoshenko beam theory. Applying the Hamilton principle, governing equations are derived. The influence of nanoparticles on the buckling load of the beam is presented. To investigate the accuracy of the present analysis, a compression study with the experimental results is carried out.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the not activated (unmodified) montmorillonite (MMT) filler on the antibacterial properties of polymer nanocomposites with a biodegradable polylactide (PLA) matrix. The subject of research was selected to verify the reports on the lack of antibacterial properties of unmodified montmorillonite in nanocomposites and to investigate the potential condition of their manufacturing which are decisive for the resulting properties. Evaluation of antibacterial and mechanical properties of both the starting materials and the obtained nanocomposites filled with layered silicates, as well as the wettability of the materials measured by a sitting drop method, was made on samples in the form of a film. The results show that the surface wettability of the polymer nanocomposites did not exhibit significant change compared to the film of neat PLA. However, a significant improvement in the mechanical and antimicrobial properties of the nanocomposite films obtained in a specific solvent casting process of the nanocomposite preceded by exfoliation of the film in an ultrasonic homogenizer was demonstrated. The antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis was also observed, and moreover, the montmorillonite-containing films revealed a zone of inhibition of bacterial growth when tested against the lactose-positive bacteria of the Enterobacteriaceae family, which are present in the waste water. The advantageous properties of the obtained PLA/MMT nanocomposites suggest, that the unmodified montmorillonite may be potentially used as filler for polymer films in the packaging industry.

Opis:
This work deals with the development of a method for obtaining polyamide and montmorillonite based nanocomposite, which was modified with polyvinylpyrrolidone by mixing in a formic acid solution. The structure and thermophysical properties of the obtained nanocomposites were investigated by means of the X-ray, differentialthermal, thermogravimetric and IR spectroscopic analyses. It was found that nanomodified polycaproamide has a higher crystallinity and higher thermal stability than the original PA-6, and is characterized by considerably higher melt fluidity. The presence of polyvinylpyrrolidone and exfoliated montmorillonite in the nanocomposite structure was confirmed experimentally.

Opis:
The effect of small polyamide additives modified with polyvinylpyrrolidone and montmorillonite on polypropylene technological properties and heat resistance has been researched in the work. It has been determined that the melt flow index of the obtained composites increases by more than 2 times in comparing with pure PP. It has been shown that adding a small amount of polyamide modified by montmorillonite-polyvinylprolidone mixture to polypropylene significantly increases heat resistance of the material. The displacement of the beginning of thermal-oxidation destruction and burning samples into the range of higher temperatures on 114-123oC, dependently on the modified polyamide content has been observed.
