Opis:
Microstructures and mechanical properties of as-cast Al-6.5Mg-1.5Zn-0.5Fe alloys newly alloy-designed for the parts of automobile were investigated in detail. The aluminum (Al) sheets of 4 mm thickness, 30 mm width and 100 mm length were reduced to a thickness of 1 mm by multi-pass rolling at ambient temperature and subsequently annealed for 1h at 200~500°C. The as-cast Al sheet was deformed without a formation of so large cracks even at huge rolling reduction of 75%. The recrystallization begun to occur at 250°C, it finished at 350°C. The as-rolled material showed tensile strength of 430 MPa and tensile elongation of 4.7%, however the specimen after annealing at 500°C showed the strength of 305 MPa and the elongation of 32%. The fraction of high angle grain boundaries above 15 degree increased greatly after annealing at high temperatures. These characteristics of the specimens after annealing were discussed in detail.

Opis:
The AZ91 magnesium alloy was processed up to 87.5% of total thickness reduction in several thermodynamic routes, consisted of hot rolling and intermediate annealing. The hot-rolling process was performed at a high strain rate equal to 1.6 s−1 and at a temperature of 430°C. The intermediate annealing was performed at 430°C for 15 minutes after each route. It was found that, during hot rolling, the hardness of the material increased from 32 HV to 40 HV, and the structure investigations showed a huge amount of twins formed inside the grains (which were not observed after annealing). Tensile tests have shown strong anisotropy in mechanical properties of the “as-rolled” samples dependent onthe orientation between tension direction (TD) and rolling direction (RD). The samples with TD perpendicular to RD provedhigher ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and (on the other hand) worse plastic properties as compared to the samples with TD parallel to RD. The annealing has an effect on the reduction of mechanical properties anisotropy. X-ray investigations have shown texture changes from the basal type with the additional (0001) <1120> component for “as-rolled” samples to the texture with the main (0001) <1010> component for annealed samples. The texture changes had a great impact on the anisotropy of mechanical properties of the investigated AZ91 magnesium alloy.

Opis:
This paper presents the influence of annealing time 30, 60 and 120 min at 1000 C for quenching CuAl7Fe5Ni5W2Si2 bronze in 10% water solution of NaCl, on the microstructure and mechanical properties. The presented results concern the species newly developed aluminum-iron-nickel bronze, with additions W and Si. In order to determine changes in the microstructure of the hardened bronze metallographic studies were performed on cylindrical samples of diameter 10 mm, on the metallographic microscope with digital image analysis, X-ray phase analysis, EDX point with the digital recording on the computer. Specified percentage of the microstructure of martensite and bainite, participation of proeutectoid \alfa phase in the microstructure, grain size of former \beta phase, the amount of dissolved \kappa phase. It was found that in the microstructure of bronze in the cast state, there are a number of intermetallic phases of \kappa type. At interphase boundaries of primary intermetallic faceted precipitates, especially rich in tungsten (IM_W), nucleate and grow dendritic primary intermetallic [...] phases, with chemical composition similar to the type of Fe3Si iron silicide. Dissolved, during the heating, in the \beta phase are all the intermediate phase included in the microstructure, with the exception of primary intermetallic phases of tungsten and [...]. Prolongation of the isothermal annealing causes coagulation and coalescence of primary phases. In microstructure of the bronze after quenching obtained the \alfa phase precipitation on the grain boundary of secondary \beta phase, coarse bainite and martensite, for all annealing times. With the change of annealing time are changed the relative proportions of individual phases or their systems, in the microstructure. In the microstructure of bronze, hold at temperature of 1000 C for 60 min, after quenching martensitic microstructure was obtained with the primary phases, and the least amount of bainite.

In the present work the effect of nitrogen on WC9 alloy at various weight percentages was analyzed and tested for their microstructural and mechanical properties. The nitrogen was added at 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.25 wt. % in the solid form as nitrided ferrochrome to WC9 alloy. The samples were heat treated by solution annealing process at a temperature of 1100°C for 5 hours to improve the austenitic formation. Microstructures and mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, % elongation and % reduction of WC9-N alloy were examined. It was observed that increasing nitrogen wt. % increases the mechanical properties. The obtained mechanical properties were compared with base WC9 and C12A grade steel, where it was found to be replacement for C12A grade steel at its composition at lower end. The material cost analysis for WC9-N and C12A grade steel was done and both were compared.

Opis:
Inconel 718 is a precipitation hardenable nickel-iron based superalloy. It has exceptionally high strength and ductility compared to other metallic materials. This is due to intense precipitation of the γ’ and γ” strengthening phases in the temperature range 650-850°C. The main purpose of the authors was to analyze the aging process in Inconel 718 obtained in accordance with AMS 5596, and its effect on the mechanical properties. Tensile and hardness tests were used to evaluate the mechanical properties, in the initial aging process and after reheating, as a function of temperature and time respectively in the ranges 650°-900°C and 5-480 min. In addition, to link the mechanical properties with the microstructure transmission microscopy observations were carried out in selected specimens. As a result, factors influencing the microstructure changes at various stages of strengthening were observed. The authors found that the γ’’ phase nucleates mostly homogenously in the temperature range 650-750°C, causing the greatest increase in strength. On the other hand, the γ’ and δ phases are formed heterogeneously at 850°C or after longer annealing in 800°C, which may weaken the material.

The paper presents the results of research on the influence of the time of annealing after welding at the temperature of 750°C on the mechanical properties of a homogeneous welded joint of T91 steel. The welded joints were annealed at 750°C for 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 and 2.0 hours. The research scope included the basic study, i.e. the measurement of hardness, the test of impact energy, the static tensile test, bending test, as well as the accelerated creep test. The results of the tests of mechanical properties indicate the possibility of using shorter annealing times for thin-walled welded joints, and thus the possibility of savings as a result of flexible heat treatments.

Purpose: of this article is to present the results of tests carried out on the impact of repeated heating on the corrosion resistance of a Co-Cr-W prosthetic alloy. Design/methodology/approach: The study used samples prepared in a manner analogous to the production of a dental prosthesis. The effect of three and six-time heating of the material on its properties such as corrosion resistance, microstructure and material hardness were carried out. Findings: Repeated heating of the chromium-cobalt alloy has no significant effect on the polarization resistance and the potentiodynamic characteristics of the material. The introduction of heating in alloy treatment results in an increase in the hardness of the material, however, the number of annealing cycles does not affect this feature significantly. Samples subjected to different amounts of thermal treatments have different microstructure; it should be assumed that this will change the mechanical properties. Research limitations/implications: Microstructure tests carried out after electrochemical corrosion tests showed changes in the microstructure of samples subjected to subsequent annealing. The tests of material hardness and corrosion did not show any significant differences that may result from differences in structure, therefore further tests characterizing the physical properties of the material will be carried out. Originality/value: The article is a description of preliminary research on the impact of multiple annealing used in dental prosthetics on the properties of metallic material. Further work will be carried out to identify the properties that may be affected by the indicated changes in microstructure.

Opis:
The paper presents an effect of stress relief annealing, applied to casts after the repair by welding, on the microstructure and mechanical properties of quenched and tempered martensitic GX12CrMoVNbN9 – 1 cast steel (called GP91). The test pieces being the subject of research were taken out from a test coupon. Heat treatment of GP91 cast steel was carried out at the parameters of temperature and time appropriate for the treatment of multi-ton steel casts, while stress relief annealing was performed at the temperatures of 730 and 750ºC. After quenching and tempering GP91 cast steel was characterized by the microstructure of high-tempered martensite with numerous precipitations of carbides of diverse size. Mechanical properties of the investigated cast steel after heat treatment fulfilled the standard requirements. Stress relief annealing contributes to the processes of recovery and recrystallization of the matrix as well as the privileged precipitation of M23C6 carbides on grain boundaries. Changes in the microstructure of the examined cast steel cause deterioration in mechanical properties – the higher the temperature of stress relief annealing, the greater the deterioration.

Opis:
The article presents the microstructure and mechanical properties of cast duplex stainless steel type 23Cr-5Mn-2Ni-3Mo. It has been shown that the structure of the tested cast steel is composed of ferrite enriched in Cr, Mo and Si, and austenite enriched in Mn and Ni. In the initial state, at the interface, precipitates rich in Cr and Mo were present. A high carbon content (0.08%C) in this cast steel indicates that probably those were complex carbides of the M23C6 type and/or σ phase. Studies have proved that the solution annealing conducted at 1060°C was not sufficient for their full dissolution, while at the solutioning temperature of 1150°C, the structure of the tested material was composed of ferrite and austenite. Partial replacement of Ni by two other austenite-forming elements, which are Mn and N, has ensured obtaining mechanical properties comparable to cast duplex 24Cr-5Ni-3Mo steel of the second generation. Basing on the results of static tensile test, a twice higher yield strength was proved to be obtained, compared to the cast austenitic 18Cr-9Ni and 19Cr-11Ni-2Mo steel commonly used in the foundry industry. In addition to the high yield strength (YS = 547 ÷ 572 MPa), the tested cast steel was characterized by the following mechanical properties: UTS = 731 ÷ 750 MPa, EL = 21 ÷ 29.5%, R.A. = 43 ÷ 52%, hardness 256 ÷ 266 HB. Fractures formed in mechanical tests showed ductile-brittle character.
W artykule przedstawiono mikrostrukturę i właściwości mechaniczne, kwasoodpornego staliwa ferrytyczno - austenitycznego 23Cr-5Mn-2Ni-3Mo typu duplex. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej statycznej próby rozciągania wykazano dwukrotnie wyższą granicę plastyczności w porównaniu do często stosowanego w przemyśle odlewniczym austenitycznego staliwa 18Cr-9Ni i 19Cr-11Ni-2Mo. Poza wysoką granicą plastyczności (Rp0,2 = 547 ÷ 572 MPa), badane staliwo charakteryzowało się następującymi właściwościami mechanicznymi: Rm = 731 ÷ 750 MPa, As = 21 ÷ 29,5%, Z = 43 ÷ 52%, HB = 256 ÷ 266. Przełomy po badaniach wytrzymałościowych wykazywały charakter ciagliwo-kruchy.
