The parish of Czerniewice is one of the rural parish in Poland. The inhabitants of the parish from the generations cultivate religious traditions of the liturgical year. Common annual ecclesiastical celebrations unite and consolidate inhabitants. The annual custom and religious rite evolve, change, part of them decline and in their place appear new. Young people are interested in continuation of tradition, their religious life is not limited to participation in Holy Mass. Thanks to elder parishioners rites and customs, both local and ecclesiastical, are passed down from generation to generation, mainly in the form of active cultivation of the Christian traditions, does not disappeared and are still repeated in subsequent generations. Participation in the social, ecclesial community, belonging to a local organization, heavily integrates parishioners and allows them setting and implement common local goals and modern social media facilitate communications.

The article describes the project, developed in the Cathedral of Lodi, which led to the composition of Introit chants for the Sundays and major feasts of the liturgical year. Starting from the principles of nobility and simplicity, the pieces composed, making the most of the treasury of the liturgical musical tradition, are intended to respond to current liturgical needs.

20 listopada 2022 roku minęło 75 lat od ukazania się encykliki o liturgii Mediator Dei Piusa XII (†1958). Jest ona pierwszym tej rangi dokumentem Kościoła w całości poświęconym zagadnieniom dotyczącym świętej liturgii i ruchu liturgicznego. Ze względu na doniosłą treść otrzymała miano „Magna Charta liturgistorum” (Wielkiej Karty liturgistów). W związku z jubileuszem, w artykule przypomniano zawarte w dokumencie nauczanie, zwracając uwagę na aktualność teologii roku liturgicznego. Pius XII, wytyczając kierunek współczesnej odnowy liturgicznej, swym autorytetem utorował drogę odnowionej po wiekach sakramentalnej wizji roku zbawienia, zgodnie z którą Kościół starożytny budował roczny krąg obchodów liturgicznych. Nie ma wątpliwości, że współczesna heortologia stanowi kontynuację i teologiczne rozwinięcie oraz pogłębienie koncepcji roku kościelnego przedstawionej w encyklice o liturgii Mediator Dei. Świadczą o tym oficjalne dokumenty Magisterium Kościoła, jak również najważniejsze publikacje z teologii roku liturgicznego, zarówno ukazujące się w Europie i w świecie, jak i w Polsce.
November 20, 2022 was the seventy-fifth anniversary of the publication of the Encyclical on the Sacred Liturgy Mediator Dei written by Pope Pius XII (†1958). The encyclical was the first document of the Church at this level devoted in its entirety to matters of the sacred liturgy and the liturgical movement. In fact, in recognition of its significance, it has often been referred to as the “Magna Charta liturgistorum”: the “Great Charter of liturgists.” On account of this anniversary, the article revisits the teaching contained in the document and underlines the continued relevance of the theology of the liturgical year. Charting the course of the modern-day liturgical renewal, Pius XII used his authority to pave the way for the sacramental vision of the year of salvation—renewed after many centuries—upon which the early Church had built its annual cycle of liturgical celebrations. Undoubtedly, today’s heortology is a continuation and a theological development and refinement of the concept of the church year presented in the Encyclical on the Sacred Liturgy Mediator Dei. This view is supported by official documents of the Magisterium of the Church as well as by major publications on the theology of the liturgical year published in Europe, across the world and in Poland.

Rok liturgiczny jest celebracją misterium Chrystusa i Jego zbawczego dzieła rozłożoną w czasie. Naród Wybrany sakralizuje czas, ponieważ w nim poprzez różne wydarzenia objawia się i działa Bóg. Żydowski teolog Abraham Joshua Heschel naucza, że czas jest atrybutem Boga i świętości. Czas przenika i podporządkowuje przestrzeń, bo jest obecnością samego Jahwe. Misterium paschalne Jezusa Chrystusa jest wypełnieniem czasu, lecz nie jego dopełnieniem. Nie tylko człowiek i całe stworzenie zostają odnowione, ale także i czas zostaje oczyszczony, ponieważ zmartwychwstanie stanowi centrum tajemnicy czasu. Treścią roku liturgicznego jest Zbawiciel, a więc w liturgii również czas sprawowania antycypuje czas samego Boga, czyli wieczność. W ten sposób czas przeżywany w Kościele staje się narzędziem uświęcenia.
The liturgical year is the celebration of the mystery of Christ and of His salvific work over time. The Chosen People sanctify time because God reveals and acts through various events within it. The Jewish theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel teaches that time is an attribute of God and of holiness. Time permeates and subordinates space, because it is the very presence of Yahweh Himself. The paschal mystery of Jesus Christ is the fullness of time but not its completion. It is not only man and the whole of creation which are renewed, but time also is purified, because the resurrection becomes the center of the mystery of time. The content of the liturgical year is the Savior, so in the liturgy the time of the celebration anticipates as well the time of God himself, that is, eternity. In this way, time lived in the Church becomes an instrument of sanctification.

Począwszy od roku 1981 aż do 2004, Chiara Lubich w regularnych konferencjach telefonicznych dzieliła się swoim doświadczeniem duchowym z członkami Ruchu Focolari, zachęcając ich do wspólnego podążania do świętości, zgodnie ze słowami psalmisty: „Szczęśliwi, którzy od Ciebie otrzymują pomoc, gdy świętą podróż odbyć zamierzyli w sercu” (Ps 84,6). Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza tych przesłań w odniesieniu do przywołanych w nich okresów cyklu liturgicznego oraz określenie, w jakiej mierze kontemplacja tajemnic Jezusa Chrystusa  w ciągu całego roku może wpłynąć na proces coraz pełniejszego upodobnienia się do Niego.
From 1981 until 2004, Chiara Lubich shared her spiritual experience with the members of the Focolare Movement in regular telephone conferences, inviting them to walk to holiness together, as the psalmist said: “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage” (Ps 84: 6). The purpose of this article is to analyse these messages in relation to the periods of the liturgical cycle they cite, and to determine to what extent the contemplation of the mysteries of Jesus Christ throughout the year can influence the process of becoming more fully conformed to Him.

One of the reasons of a lesser efficiency of preaching in homilies is the fact that every Sunday the homily is preached as if it were independent and not connected with the previous and the following ones. However, it should be possible to end a homily, at least from time to time, with a remark that the homily will be continued, which would really serve emphasizing the sense of continuity and identity of the congregation. The preacher is supposed to discover the way, in which the given Gospel has been passed on by the Lectionary, and what the spirit, the style of the given Evangelist is. The listeners should be introduced into this Gospel, the Gospel should be referred to, the connection between subsequent pericopes should be shown, for example by reminding the message conveyed in the preceding Sundays. In the Lectionary the Gospel according to St Mark has been divided into six parts that are discussed in detail in the present paper. They constitute the following sections: Jesus’ baptism and the first events (the Lord’s Baptism, Sundays II and III); signs of God’s kingdom and the first disputes (Sundays IV to IX); revelation of God’s closeness and the division provoked by the revelation (Sundays X to XIV); the mission and the bread of life (Sundays XV-XXIII); Peter’s confession and the requirements to follow Jesus through the cross of love and service (Sundays XXIV-XXX); Jesus’ revelation in Jerusalem, the final confrontation and the eschatological speech (Sundays XXXI-XXXIII). Such are the main stages of the development of Mark’s message that should be followed by the preacher, so that his preaching could take the faithful through the itinerary of faith contained in the Ordinary Time during the Cycle B Liturgical Year.

Charakterystyczną cechą katolickiej myśli teologicznej ostatnich lat, jest zainteresowanie tematem miłosierdzia. Miłosierdzie Boże oprócz biblijno-dogmatycznego posiada również wymiar liturgiczny. Liturgia bowiem stanowi uprzywilejowane miejsce doświadczenia i głoszenia miłosierdzia Bożego. Dokonuje się to w ciągu całego roku liturgicznego. W rytmie i wydarzeniach czasu bowiem Kościół wspomina i przeżywa tajemnice zbawienia, doświadczając miłosierdzia Bożego, które najpełniej objawia nam Jezus Chrystus. Kościół wyraża i przeżywa swoją wiarę we wszystkich modlitwach, ale czyni to w sposób szczególny w modlitwach towarzyszących sprawowaniu Eucharystii w ciągu całego roku liturgicznego. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób misterium Bożego miłosierdzia celebrowane i odsłaniane jest podczas sprawowania Mszy Świętej w Kościele Polskokatolickim w trakcie całego roku liturgicznego. Nie ma dnia, aby Kościół sprawując Eucharystię, nie odwoływał się do Boga miłosiernego. Mówią o tym modlitwy zawarte w Obrzędach Mszy Świętej Kościoła Polskokatolickiego. Kościół przy każdej okazji wkłada w usta szafarzy świętych misteriów głębokie wołanie ku miłosiernemu Bogu. Nie zależnie od wszelkich wezwań do miłosierdzia Bożego wprost zamieszczonych w Obrzędach Mszy Świętej, Najświętsza Ofiara jest w swej istocie najpotężniejszym błaganiem Boga o litość i miłosierdzie.
A characteristic feature of Catholic theological thought in recent years is the interest in the subject of God`s mercy. The mercy of God apart from its biblical and dogmatic aspect also has a liturgical dimension. Indeed, the liturgy is the privileged place of the experience and proclamation of mercy. This is done throughout the liturgical year. In the rhythm of events and the time we remember and live the mysteries of salvation, experiencing God`s mercy which is most fully revealed by Christ. The Church expresses and experiences her faith in all prayers but does so in a special way in the prayers accompanying the celebration of the Eucharist throughout the liturgical year. The purpose of this article is to show how the mystery of God`s mercy is revealed and celebrated during the celebration of Mass throughout the liturgical year in the Polish Catholic Church. Not a day goes by as the Church celebrates the Eucharist where she does not refer to a merciful God. Prayers contained in the Rite of Mass of the Polish Catholic Church speak of this. At every opportunity the Church cries out to the God of mercy. Of all the calls to the mercy of God which are part of the Holy Mass, the Holy Sacrifice is in its essence the most powerful plea before God for pity and mercy.

Il Concilio Vaticano II nella Costituzione sulla liturgia dispone che si proceda alla riforma dell’Anno liturgico, il che comporta la previa riforma del calendario. Infatti nel 1969, prima di procedere alla pubblicazione del nuovo Breviario e del nuovo Messale, Paolo VI promulgò il Calendario romano generale, riformato in applicazione ai decreti del Vaticano II. Per questo il gruppo di studio, a cui venne demandato il compito della sua revisione, fu posto all’inizio di tutta l’organizzazione tecnica del «Consilium» contrassegnato col n. 1. Le linee programmatiche per la revisione del Calendario sono consegnate nel capitolo V della Costituzione. L’autore del artico ci parla di alcuni criteri che hanno guidato il lavoro della revisione del nuovo Calendario. Per Temporale il nuovo Calendario romano mette in luce più viva il mistero pasquale di Cristo. Invece Sanctorale è stato organizzato secondo i seguenti criteri: i cambiamenti di data, l’universalità della Chiesa e quindi della sua santità e l’eliminazione delle feste di devozione.

Artykuł dotyczy jednego z najistotniejszych aspektów życia Katolickich Kościołów Wschodnich, jakim jest ich wierność własnemu obrządkowi, czyli liturgicznemu, teologicznemu, duchowemu i dyscyplinarnemu dziedzictwu (por. kan. 28 §1 Kodeksu Kanonów Kościołów Wschodnich). Magisterium Kościoła, od dokumentów Soboru Watykańskiego II do wydanej w 1996  r. przez Kongregację Kościołów Wschodnich Instrukcji w sprawie stosowania przepisów liturgicznych Kodeksu Kanonów Kościołów Wschodnich wzywa te wspólnoty do ponownego odkrycia bogactwa swojej tradycji, a gdzie zachodzi taka potrzeba – do roztropnego usunięcia obcych zapożyczeń i powrotu do źródeł. Na przykładzie święta celebrowanego na chrześcijańskim Wschodzie 9 grudnia widać, jak trudny jest ten proces w Ukraińskim Kościele Greckokatolickim. Rzymska reforma ksiąg liturgicznych (lata 40. XX wieku), która przywróciła zmienioną w 1891 r. nazwę i liturgię bizantyńskiego święta „Poczęcie św. Anny, gdy poczęła ona Najświętszą Bogurodzicę”, czeka na pełną recepcję i implementację.
The article concerns one of the most important aspects of the Eastern Catholic Churches’ life, which is their faithfulness to their own rite, that is, a liturgical, theological, spiritual, and disciplinary heritage (c. 28 §1 of The Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches). The Magisterium of the Church, from the documents of the Second Vatican Council to the edition in 1996 by the Congregation for the Oriental Churches of The Instruction for the Application of the Liturgical Prescriptions of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, urges these communities to rediscover the richness of their traditions, and if necessary, to prudently remove foreign borrowings and return to the sources. The example of the holiday celebrated in the Christian East on December 9 shows how difficult this process is in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The Roman reform of liturgical books (1940s), which restored the name and liturgy of the Byzantine feast: The Conception of St. Anne, when she conceived The Holy Mother of God, changed in 1891, is still waiting for full reception and implementation.

Sobór Watykański II podkreśla w swoim nauczaniu, że liturgia Kościoła sprawowana w ciągu roku liturgicznego jest upamiętnieniem zbawczego działa dokonanego przez Chrystusa. Aby to zbawcze działanie Syna Bożego miało swój pełny obraz, Ojcowie Soborowi postulują między innymi reformę kalendarza liturgicznego. Ta z kolei jest ściśle związana z nowym wydaniem Mszału Rzymskiego oraz Liturgii Godzin. Układ nowych ksiąg liturgicznych i teksty w nich zawarte dają możliwość pełniejszego ukazania całego misterium paschalnego Chrystusa, w którym skupia się sens istnienia i działalności Kościoła. Kolejne etapy reformy kalendarza liturgicznego, dokonują się dzięki działalności powołanych do wypełnienia tego zadania komisji – zarówno na szczeblu Stolicy Apostolskiej, jak i diecezji. Artykuł zawiera uwagi ogólne dotyczące kształtowania się Kalendarza Rzymskiego oraz postulaty Vaticanum II dotyczące aktualizacji i reformy kalendarza. W kolejnej części ukazana została realizacja tychże postulatów w dokumentach posoborowych. Na bazie tekstów zachowanych w Archiwum Diecezji Kieleckiej ukazana została recepcja wskazań dotyczących zagadnienia kalendarza partykularnego w diecezji kieleckiej.
The Second Vatican Council in its teaching emphasises that Liturgy of the Church celebrated in the sequence of the liturgical year, is a commemoration of the saving work accomplished by Christ. To this saving work of the Son of God able to express themselves fully Council Fathers postulate, among other things, reform of liturgical calendar. This reform, in turn, is closely related to the new edition of “Roman Missal” and “Liturgy of the Hours.” The arrangement of new liturgical books and texts included in them, make it possible to clarify the specific whole Paschal Mystery of Christ which focuses on the meaning of existence and activity of the Church. Successive stages of the liturgical reform, taking place by the activities set up for the task committee – both at the Holy See and the diocese. The above text contains general remarks concerning developing of Roman Calendar, and the demands of Second Vatican Council concerning the update and the reform of the Calendar. In the next part has been displayed a realization of these demands in the post-conciliar documents. On the basis of the texts preserved in the Archives of the Diocese of Kielce has been shown reception of indications which concern the issue of the particularistic calendar in the Kielce diocese.

Wyjątkowym symbolem Roku Nadzwyczajnego Jubileuszu Miłosierdzia w Rzymie i w poszczególnych diecezjach stała się otwarta przez cały rok Brama Miłosierdzia. Ten symbol potwierdza, że Rok Święty jest szczególnym momentem łaski i odnowy duchowej, a także czasem kontemplacji tajemnicy miłosierdzia. Uprzywilejowanym miejscem kontemplacji tej tajemnicy jest celebracja liturgiczna, ponieważ w niej uobecnia się miłosierdzie Ojca objawione przez Chrystusa. Papieska Rada do spraw Krzewienia Nowej Ewangelizacji wskazała trzy drogi, które pomogą celebrować Rok Święty, aby miłosierdzie było bardziej skutecznie przeżywane i świadczone. Są nimi: rok liturgiczny, celebracja sakramentów i modlitwa obecna w życiu chrześcijańskim. Artykuł szczegółowo omawia te drogi. Lektura tego tekstu pozwala lepiej zrozumieć, że liturgia zawsze czyni żywym i obecnym miłosierdzie Ojca. Liturgia nie jest teorią, oderwaniem od rzeczywistości, ale otwiera człowieka ku pełni życia. Radość z doświadczenia przebaczenia, nawrócenie, miłość Boga i dar miłosierdzia wyrażają się w świadectwie życia. Stąd istotny wniosek: miłosierdzie celebrowane w liturgii jest przeżywane i świadczone. Nadzwyczajny Rok Jubileuszowy miał uświadomić wszystkim ochrzczonym, że są wezwani do tego, aby być wiernymi świadkami miłosierdzia, wyznając je i żyjąc nim w codzienności.
The Holy Door open all year, became a special symbol of the Year of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy in Rome and in particular dioceses. This symbol confirms that the Holy Year is a special moment of grace and spiritual renewal, and also a time of contemplation of the mystery of mercy. The privileged place of contemplation of this mystery is the liturgical celebration, because in it the mercy of the Father revealed by Christ is made present. The Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization has indicated three paths that will help celebrate the Holy Year, that mercy may be more effectively lived in and provided with. These three paths are: the liturgical year, the celebration of the sacraments and the prayer present in Christian life. The article discusses these roads in detail. The reading of this text allows us to understand better that the liturgy always makes the Father’s mercy live and present. The liturgy is not a theory, a detachment from reality, but it opens a man to the fullness of life. The joy of experiencing forgiveness, conversion, God’s love and the gift of mercy are expressed in the testimony of life. Thus the important conclusion: the mercy celebrated in the liturgy is experienced and testified. The Extraordinary Jubilee Year was to make all baptized aware that they were called to be faithful witnesses to mercy, confessing it and living it in everyday life.

Dyrektorium homiletyczne, przedstawiając dynamikę właściwą dla treści homilii, wskazuje na jej trzy elementy: wyjaśnienie tekstów świętych przez pryzmat śmierci i zmartwychwstania Chrystusa; uobecnienie misterium paschalnego w liturgii; przedłużenie owego misterium w życiu wiernych. Takie ujęcie homilii jest przejawem wyraźnego wpływu teologii liturgicznej, według której liturgia łączy w sobie trzy elementy: misterium (misterium Chrystusa), actio (celebrację liturgiczną) i vita (życie chrześcijańskie). Zgodnie z tym podejściem liturgia, a w niej i homilia, jest celebracją (aktualizacją) zbawczego misterium po to, aby ogarnęło ono życie chrześcijan, i zarazem celebracją życia chrześcijan w celu włączenia go w zbawcze misterium. Homilia, która pozostaje zawsze na służbie misterium Chrystusa, jawi się jako szczególne miejsce spotkania teologii, liturgii i chrześcijańskiego życia. W takiej perspektywie podstawowym zadaniem homilisty jest stopniowe odsłanianie i uobecnianie całego misterium Chrystusa z ciągłym odniesieniem do Paschy.
The Homiletic Directory presents the correct dynamics for the contents of a homily by pointing to its three elements: explaining the sacred texts through the prism of the death and resurrection of Christ; making present the Paschal mystery in the liturgy; and extending this mystery into the life of the faithful. Such an approach to preaching a homily reveals the clear impact of liturgical theology, according to which the liturgy combines three elements: the misterium (the mystery of Christ), the actio (the liturgical celebration) and the vita (the Christian life). In this vision, the liturgy and the homily preached during mass are a celebration (an actualization) of the salvific mystery in order that it encompass the lives of Christians and at the same time it is a celebration of the life of Christians, placing them into the saving mystery. In this way, the homily, which is always at the service of the mystery of Christ, becomes a special meeting place for theology, the liturgy and Christian life. In this perspective, the basic task of the homilist is gradually uncovering and making present the whole mystery of Christ by continually referring to the Passover.

Autorka w artykule proponuje analizę teoretycznych i praktycznych aspektów spiralnej koncepcji czasu. W pierwszej części wyjaśnia znaczenie pojęć: czas i wieczność, a następnie omawia konstrukcję spiralnej koncepcji czasu. Kolejne części pracy odnoszą się kolejno do aspektów czasowych w prawie, spojrzenia na czas w świetle nauki Kościoła katolickiego i teologii (perspektywa wieczności) oraz do zastosowania spiralnej koncepcji czasu w normach prawa kanonicznego. Przedmiotowa koncepcja stanowi syntezę dwóch innych teorii czasu, tj. cyklicznej i linearnej. Kościelny prawodawca korzysta ze spiralnej koncepcji czasu i konstruuje normy prawne mające na celu pomoc ludziom w odnalezieniu sensu ich życia – wieczności. Istotne jest, aby ukierunkować ich na troskę o jakość przeżywanego czasu – przemianę chronos w kairos. Współcześnie powszechnym doświadczeniem staje się problem nieustannego braku czasu, pośpiechu i lęku przed śmiercią, związany w pewien sposób z utratą perspektywy wieczności. W tym kontekście kairos to czas niosący nadzieję, dający szansę na wyjście z kryzysu i rozpoczynanie od nowa – korzystając z dotychczasowych doświadczeń, powracając do pewnych zdarzeń, lecz przeżywając je niejako w ruchu spiralnym, na nowym, wyższym etapie rozwoju. Autorka zwraca również uwagę, że prawo kanoniczne jest podporządkowane misji Kościoła, która polega na prowadzeniu wiernych do wieczności. Oznacza to konieczność ciągłego rozwoju i dążenia do chrześcijańskiej doskonałości.
In the article the author proposes the analysis of theoretical and practical aspects of a spiral theory of the time. In the fi rst part she explains the meaning of the terms: time and eternity, afterwards she elaborates the structure of the spiral conception of the time. Consecutive parts of the article refer to temporal aspects in law, the time in the light of the Catholic Church’s knowledge and theology (the perspective of eternity) and applications of the spiral conception of time in provisions of the ecclesiastical law. This conception of time connects circular and linear theories of time. The canon law legislator uses the spiral conception of time and lays down legislative acts which should contribute to the regaining the meaning of life – eternity. It is important to help people take good care of how they live and spend their time in order to transform chronos into kairos. The contemporary problem of a continuous lack of time is becoming more pressing. Living in a great hurry and fear of death are connected with loss of the perspective of eternity. In view of the above, the author draws the conclusion that kairos is a time that gives hope, a time that gives a chance to overcome crisis and to start over, making use of the previous experiences, getting back on to some occurrences, but experiencing them in a spiral growth, being on a new, superior stage of advancement. The author also pays attention to Catholic mission’s domination and canon law’s subordination. The pursuit of eternity requires ceaseless progress and growing in Christian perfection.

Modlitwy za zmarłych rozpowszechniły się w Kościele w okresie patrystycznym i łączyły się z Eucharystią sprawowaną w określone dni. Najstarsze formularze mszalne związane ze zmarłymi pochodzą z V wieku. Natomiast znacznie później, bo pod koniec X lub na początku XI wieku, zaczęto celebrować oficjum i Eucharystię za wszystkich wiernych zmarłych. Dniem celebracji stał się 2 listopada, i najpierw miało to miejsce w benedyktyńskim opactwie w Cluny. Przed Soborem Trydenckim we Wspomnienie wszystkich wiernych zmarłych można było wybierać perykopy spośród kilku proponowanych. W Mszale Piusa V z 1570 roku są już ustalone stałe czytania. Od 1915 roku każdy kapłan może w tym dniu sprawować trzy Msze Święte. Lekcjonarz łaciński wydany po Soborze Watykańskim II proponuje dobrać czytania spośród ponad czterdziestu perykop przeznaczonych dla Mszy za zmarłych. W Lekcjonarzu języka polskiego podano dziewięć stałych czytań dla trzech Mszy. W innych krajach istnieją duże różnice w doborze czytań. Tematem głównym czytań jest misterium paschalne, które obejmuje śmierć, zmartwychwstanie i życie wieczne Chrystusa i wszystkich wiernych.
Prayers for the dead were widespread in the Church in the patristic period and were united with the Eucharist celebrated on particular days. At the end of 10th century or at the beginning of the 11th century, they began to celebrate the Divine Office and the Eucharist for All the Faithful Departed. First, it was in the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny—the celebration was established on November 2. Before the Council of Trent they could choose the readings of Mass from several that were proposed. In the Missal of Pius V, there were established readings. Since 1915, every priest may celebrate three Masses on this day. The Latin Lectionary promulgated after Vatican II proposes the choice of readings from more than forty of the Masses for the dead. The Lectionary in the Polish language has a stable nine readings for three Masses. In other countries, there are large differences in the choice of readings. The principal theme of the biblical texts is the Paschal mystery surrounding the death, resurrection and eternal life of Christ and all the faithful.

Relacja liturgii i czasu jest głęboko zakorzeniona w naturze celebracji. Liturgia wydarza się w czasie, ale z drugiej strony ma ona zdolność interpretowania czasu i jego percepcji. W świecie, który bywa nazywany epoką prędkości, nie tylko liturgia potrzebuje czasu, ale także czas potrzebuje liturgii. Ta wzajemna relacja między czasem a liturgią jest treścią niniejszego artykułu, prezentując zarówno wymiar antropologiczno-fenomenologiczny jak i teologiczny clebracji liturgicznej oraz jej wkład w kształtowanie doświadczenia czasu.
The relationship between time and liturgy is profoundly rooted in the nature of celebration itself. Liturgy occurs in time but, on the other hand, it is able to interpret time and its perception. In our world – undeniably an age of speed – it is not only liturgy which needs time: Time needs liturgy as well. It is this reciprocal relationship between time and liturgy which is the focus of this article. It presents both the anthropological-phenomenological and theological dimensions of the liturgical celebration, and liturgy's contribution to shaping the whole experience of time.
