Opis:
This paper reports on the studies of oxidation kinetics of silicon strained by silicon germanium layers. Experimental results of natural, chemical and thermal oxide formation are presented. The oxidation rates of silicon strained by SiGe layers have been compared with the rates of pure Si oxidation. The oxidation kinetics was studied using the parallel model proposed by Beck and Majkusiak. This model was fitted with good result to the obtained experimental data and the parameter that is most probably responsible for the strain effect was identified, as well as its dependence on Ge content in the SiGe layer.

Opis:
The kinetics of oxidation of aromatic anils to benzaldehyde and azobenzene by magnesium monoperoxyphthalate (MMPP) has been studied in aqueous acetic acid medium. The low dielectric constant of the medium facilitates the reactivity. It has been found that ionic strength of the reaction has no significant effect on rate. The added acrylonitrile has no effect on the reaction rate indicating the absence of free radical mechanism. The added Mn(II) decreases the rate of the reaction, which indicates the involvement of two-electron transfer. Highly negative ΔS# values indicate a structured transition state. The deviation of Hammett plot is noted and a non-linear concave downward curve is obtained for the anils with substituents in the aniline moiety. The observed break in the log kobs versus σ is attributed to the transition state whereas the non-linear concave upward curve is observed for the substituents in the benzaldehyde moiety and a non-linear concacve upward curve is observed for the substituents in the combination of aniline and benzaldehyde moiety and a suitable mechanism is proposed.

The kinetics of oxidation of amino acids namely, alanine, glycine, leucine, phenyl alanine and valine by N-chloropyrazinamide (NCPZA) in aqueous acetic acid medium in the presence of hydrochloric acid have been investigated. The observed rate of oxidation is first order in [NCPZA], [H+] and [Clˉ]. The order with respect to [amino acid] is zero. The rate of oxidation increases with increase in the percentage of acetic acid. The reaction rate increases slightly with increase in ionic strength, while retards with addition of pyrazinamide. Arrhenius and thermodynamic activation parameters have been evaluated from Arrhenius plot by studying the reaction at different temperatures. A most probable reaction mechanism has been proposed and an appropriate rate law is deduced to account for the observed kinetic data.

Opis:
A low-pressure liquid oxidation method was proposed and proven to be effective to extract vanadium and chromium simultaneously from the vanadium slag in concentrated NaOH aqueous solutions. The effect of temperature, NaOH mass concentration, liquid-to-solid mass ratio, stirring speed and pressure on the extraction of vanadium and chromium in NaOH aqueous solutions were systematically investigated. Under the optimal reaction conditions (temperature of 473 K, liquid-to-solid mass ratio of 6:1, stirring speed of 700 rpm, NaOH mass concentration of 50%, pressure of 1 MPa and reaction time of 180 min), the vanadium and chromium recovery reached 95% and 90%, respectively. It was found that the reaction temperature and NaOH concentration were important factors for the extraction of vanadium and chromium. The kinetics of the decomposition of vanadium slag in concentrated NaOH aqueous under low pressure was analyzed using the shrinking core model, and the results indicated that the extraction of vanadium and chromium were both governed by the internal diffusion step, with apparent activation energies calculated to be 26.22 and 32.79 kJ/mol, respectively.

Opis:
The effect of sodium sulfide waste water recycling on the separation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite was investigated in this work. The waste water, which was separated from the slurry after selective flotation, was recycled in the flotation system. This operation significantly improved the subsequent flotation of chalcopyrite and saved the reagent. The results showed that the depression efficiency of sodium sulfide gradually disappeared in the recycling tests due to the consumption. The consumption of sodium sulfide in the separation was not only caused by the adsorption on mineral surfaces but also resulted from the precipitation of metal ions which released from minerals. These effects decreased the solution reducibility and the adsorption of hydrosulfide ions, finally resulting in the less depression for chalcopyrite flotation. After adding a certain amount of sodium sulfide to the recycling, the depression of chalcopyrite performed well and the pulp potential maintained at a relatively lower level. Moreover, the pulp potential was an available parameter to control the flotation separation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite, which made the method easily applied to industry.

Opis:
In this paper, an attempt has been made to estimate the uncertainty of measurements of the parameters that describe the kinetics of oxidation of the particulate matter (PM) produced during fuel combustion in compression ignition (CI) engines. The kinetics of the process is characterized by two basic parameters: activation energy Ea and PM oxidation rate constant k0. One of the methods to determine the values of these quantities is based on gravimetric measurements of the decrement of mass of the particulate matter when being burnt. The course of the PM oxidation process depends with considerable significance on the repeatability of process conditions, which affects the values of the kinetics parameters being determined. The parameters Ea and k0 are of fundamental importance at simulation tests and at analysing the PM oxidation (combustion) process; they are also vital to developing the methods of reconditioning automotive exhaust gas filters. It is essential that for the above needs, the parameters Ea and k0 should be determined with a definite level of reliability; this means that the measurement results must be subjected to a statistical analysis. A procedure of statistical analysis of measurement results and the estimated values of the above parameters, obtained from experimental investigations of the kinetics of the PM oxidation process, have been presented below. About 1 000 realizations were recorded in various process conditions on a test stand for gravimetric investigations of the PM oxidation process. For the needs of this paper, a series of measurement results was selected from that, based on predefined criteria. The selected results were subjected to a Dixon's Q test, which is to eliminate outliers from the data set. For the normal probability distribution of data and a specific confidence level having been assumed, the uncertainty level was calculated and the measurement result was specified as an arithmetic mean of the series of individual results with the corresponding uncertainty interval. In result of the statistical analysis, reliable values of the parameters Ea and k0 and of their uncertainty were determined with the assumed confidence level. For the calculated Ea and k0 parameter values to be additionally verified, they were subjected to a statistical test in order to eliminate those being outside of the range determined for the assumed confidence level and for the standard deviation of the series of measurements. The test confirmed the uncertainty to have been estimated correctly; moreover, conclusions from this work could be formulated based on this test.
W artykule podjęto próbę oszacowania niepewności pomiarów parametrów kinetyki utleniania cząstek stałych (PM), powstających podczas spalania paliwa w silnikach o zapłonie samoczynnym. Kinetykę procesu charakteryzują dwa podstawowe parametry: energia aktywacji Ea i stała szybkości k0 utleniania PM. Parametry Ea i k0 mają podstawowe znaczenie w badaniach symulacyjnych i analizie procesu utleniania (spalania) PM; mają one podstawowe znaczenie przy opracowaniu technologii regeneracji samochodowych filtrów spalin. W celu dodatkowej weryfikacji obliczonych wartości parametrów Ea i k0 przeprowadzono test statystyczny polegający na odrzucaniu wartości tych parametrów wykraczających poza obszar wyznaczony w oparciu o założony poziom ufności i odchylenie standardowe serii pomiarów. Przeprowadzony test potwierdził poprawność oszacowania niepewności i pozwolił na sformułowanie wniosków.

This study concerns the application of artificial neural networks in oxidation kinetic analysis of ceramic nanocomposites. The oxidation of the Ti-Si-C ceramic nanocomposite in dry air was studied. The size of the nanoparticles was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The gaseous oxidation products were analysed by mass spectroscopy (MS) while the solid oxidation products by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The kinetic analysis of the oxidation was based on the Coats-Redfern equation. The kinetic models were identified for the consecutive stages and then the A and E parameters of the Arrhenius equations were evaluated. Artificial neural networks were used at each step of the kinetic calculations.

Opis:
The kinetics of oxidation of α, Β-unsaturated alcohols (allyl alcohol, Crotyl alcohol, Cinnamyl alcohol) by quinaldinium fluorochromate has been studied in aqueous acid medium at 313 K. α, Β- unsaturated alcohols were converted to the corresponding acrolein, crotonaldehyde and cinnamaldehyde. The reaction is first order each in oxidant, substrate and H+. The decrease in di electric constant of the medium increases the rate of the reaction. Increase in ionic strength by the addition of sodium perchlorate has no effect on the rate constant. There is no polymerization with acrylonitrile. The reaction has been conducted at four different temperatures and activation parameters were calculated. From the observed kinetic results a suitable mechanism consistent with rate law has been proposed. The relative reactivity order was found to be Cinnamyl alcohol > Crotyl alcohol > Allyl alcohol.
