In the paper, the author attempts to point out the meaning of procedures for the environmental management system (EMS). Particular attention is paid to form and content as well as to the functions, proprieties and structure of the procedures. The analyses were carried out taking into account a systemic approach of the essential topics to the ISO 14001 standard. Based on the chosen procedure, some fundamental methods of elaborating upon and implementing the EMS procedures were outlined. It was also presented that procedures written in accordance with these rules might provide vital support to the improvement of the organization’s management systems and might optimize the processes in the areas they cover.

Consumer approach of people caused that the high use of many natural resources exceeded the possibilities of reconstruction of our planet. These resources are first used in manufacturing companies to produce goods and services, which will later be sold to customers to meet their requirements. That is why the ecological education of people in this regard is so important. The purpose of this article was to define the ecological footprint and to show the size of this index in the world and Europe. Examples of actions that every company can make in its operation, to influence the improvement of this index, were also presented.

W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę dwóch podstawowych standardów dotyczących i jednocześnie definiujących wymagania względem Systemu Zarządzania Środowiskowego. Dokonano ponadto analizy różnic powstających na płaszczyźnie oceny tychże wymagań zawartych w obydwu standardach, czyli certyfikacji systemu zarządzania środowiskiem na zgodność z normą ISO 14001 oraz weryfikacji EMAS.
In this paper a characterization of two basic standards concerning and simultaneously defining requirements relative to the Environmental Management System was presented. Moreover, the analysis of differences rising on the plain of the assessment of these requirements in both standards, that is the certification of the environmental management system to the compliance with the ISO 14001 norm and the EMAS verification, was conducted.

Prawidłowe planowanie strategiczne może prawidłowo ukierunkować rozwój podstawowych procesów społeczno-gospodarczych danej społeczności, z uwzględnieniem zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju. Praca przedstawia rolę, jaką w procesie tym powinny odgrywać zasoby środowiska przyrodniczego. Opisuje możliwe metody wdrażania i waloryzowania zasobów środowiska.

W pracy na przykładzie kompleksu rafineryjno-petrochemicznego omówiono zintegrowane podejście do zagadnień ochrony środowiska. This paper presents integrated model approach to refining, petrochemical and energy complex which allows for looking at environmental protection in integrated way. Inputs, outputs and intermediate streams, and the impact of their interactions on emissivity of installations were analysed. An attempt was made to demonstrate that, in accordance with the law of conservation of mass and energy, there is virtually impossible to act within a single component of the environment without consequences for another one or for the quantity and quality of production.

W pracy, na przykładzie działań prowadzonych w zakładzie produkcyjnym będącym kompleksem rafineryjno-petrochemicznym o projektowej wydajności ok. 17 Mg ropy naftowej rocznie z własnym systemem energetycznym, pokazano możliwe sposoby dostosowania instalacji produkcyjnych do obowiązujących przepisów prawa oraz wytycznych europejskich w zakresie ochrony środowiska. Stosując podejścia zintegrowane, przedsięwzięcia środowiskowe zestawiono wraz z działaniami poprawiającymi efektywność energetyczną w skali całego zakładu. Podjęto próbę znalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakie konsekwencje towarzyszą ograniczaniu emisji przemysłowych.
Based on selected activities undertaken in the refinery and petrochemical complex with the projected capacity of 17 Mg crude oil annually with own energy system, the present study shows possible ways of bringing production installations into line with binding legal rules and European Union guidelines on environmental protection. Having adopted an integrated approach, we correlated some environmental protection undertakings with energy-related efficiency improvements affecting the whole plant. Our aim was to try to answer the following question – what consequences follow from the limitation of industrial emissions.

The article analyses the problems (dilemmas) in approach to the environmental protection and management. EU has declared the plan for the Great Reset of global economy and environmental politics. The idea is not new, but the approach is expected to be completely different. While the EU leaders set the strategy of centralisation, there are strong claims for opposite way – decentralisation. The second dilemma we analyse in our article is the problem of European Commission massive support of green investments (including using of renewable sources of energy and focus of environmental protection), especially after lockdowns connected with covid pandemic which meets with the strong negative position of those economical circles which see such types of initiatives as green shooting to the economy. Terra Carta as an integral part of Sustainable Markets Initiative was launched in 2020. The third dilemma we pay our attention is connected with the efficiency of new environmental taxes. The article focuses also on the good practice as can be seen in environmental protection management efforts and green solutions for using and saving energy resources. As an examples we assess the projects supporting use of renewable energy in Africa (e.g. Lights for Africa), Cradle to Cradle Program (C2C) and we go back to the Come2CoM. The whole is analysed in the context of corporate social responsibility.

The article attempts to demonstrate the role of decision-making process in actions for sustainable development implemented as part of environmental protection, which is viewed here in a systemic way. The article presents the definition of a system and its surroundings (environment), and points out that environmental protection can be described in this systemic perspective both in general and specific terms. This makes it possible to indicate the scheme and structure of decision-making process. The article examines the possibility of applying Mazur’s control system for designing a scheme of actions that would be adequate for environmental protection, with emphasis placed on the optimisation stage. The author shows that the system developed by Mazur can be used in the PDCA methodology, which is based on the Deming cycle and included in the ISO 14001 standard. As a result, the potential of the systemic approach to environmental protection is shown and it is explained how to move from this approach to a broader strategy for environmental protection and ultimately, to the implementation of sustainable development goals.
W artykule podjęto próbę wskazania roli procesu decyzyjnego w działaniach podejmowanych na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju realizowanych w ramach ochrony środowiska ujmowanej systemowo. Przedstawiony został charakterystyczny dla tego ujęcia sposób określania systemu i jego otoczenia (środowiska) wraz ze wskazaniem możliwości opisu ogólnego oraz szczegółowego ochrony środowiska w tej perspektywie. Dzięki temu, możliwe było wskazanie schematu i struktury procesu decyzyjnego. Analizie poddano możliwość wykorzystania systemu sterującego Mazura, w konstruowaniu schematu postępowania, adekwatnego dla ochrony środowiska, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem etapu optymalizacji. Autor wskazał na możliwość wykorzystania tego systemu w metodyce PDCA opartej na cyklu Deminga i uwzględnionej w normie ISO 14001. W efekcie możliwe było wskazanie potencjału systemowego ujęcia ochrony środowiska oraz ukazanie ścieżki przejścia od takiego ujęcia do konstrukcji szerszej strategii ochrony środowiska a w konsekwencji do realizacji celów zrównoważonego rozwoju.

Przedstawiony został charakterystyczny dla tego ujęcia sposób określania systemu i jego otoczenia (środowiska) wraz ze wskazaniem możliwości opisu ogólnego oraz szczegółowego ochrony środowiska w tej perspektywie. Dzięki temu, możliwe było wskazanie schematu i struktury procesu decyzyjnego. Analizie poddano możliwość wykorzystania systemu sterującego Mazura, w konstruowaniu schematu postępowania, adekwatnego dla ochrony środowiska, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem etapu optymalizacji. The article addresses a very important issue, being the lack of a specific environmental protection scientific discipline in Poland. The actual situation in this extent is analysed and compared to the solutions of the EU based on the systematic basis accepted by the OECD. The author presents methodological solutions in his study, which may serve as the basis for the creation of a substantive framework for the designation of a separate environmental protection scientific discipline. These assumptions are supported by holistic elements, which are essential to environmental management with regard for the concept of sustainable development.

Konkurencyjność ta przejawia się rozwojem i kształtowaniem m.in. specyficznego obszaru w strukturze klastrowej, w obrębie którego może rozwinąć się regionalne otoczenie edukacyjne, w ramach którego funkcjonują współpracujące i konkurujące ze sobą podmioty edukacyjne kształcące przyszłe kadry, zapewniając zaspokojenie potrzeb edukacyjnych w obrębie różnorodności językowej na potrzeby poszerzającego się zasięgu terenów wydobywczych.
The basis of functioning of a mining company and the cluster is determined by its resourcebase whose source-lifespan decides about the termination of its life cycle. Most frequently a large global company seeks new mining areas and, on the other hand, a small one can enter and continue functioning within the mining cluster still remaining competitive in the industry. This competitiveness is manifested by the development and shaping of the specific surrounding in the structure of the cluster. Within such a cluster, a regional educational environment can develop in which educational entities operate, cooperate and compete providing future personnel and education needs within the linguistic diversity for the needs of the expanding range of mining areas.

Includes the identification and analysis of the vehicle recycling system using the example of buses in consideration of economic and business issues in Poland, specialising in the collection of cars/buses, their dismantling, segregation of materials and secondary use (recycling), given the regulatory changes proposed by the EU. The operations listed are interrelated. Reusing materials identical to their original purpose (including reuse of steel for car bodies) and assemblies from end-of-life vehicles (after possible reconditioning) can be applied as spare parts for repairs, subject to the observance of certain rules and the law. Life extension activities contribute to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. The paper presents a case for dismantling a bus.
