    Discussed elements of the computer databases used in “input-output” analysis method to identify enterprise impact on the environment. Presented “input-output” database parameters essential for a company performing road transport of finished products. Presented a method for determining parameters: energy consumption by means of road transport and the emissions amount with exhaust fumes from vehicles. Discussed parameters of the computer databases needed to calculate the amount of fees for use of the environment. These data and amount of fees for environment usage may be useful in assessing the scale of the impact on environment by businesses. Described a method for determining the fee for gases and dust emitted into the air from combustion of fuels in internal combustion engines.

    Opis:
    The aim of the paper is to present a state-of-the-art report on service life design methods with reference to engineering structures. The approach to durability assessment and verification method developed in the ISO Standards and scientific literature are discussed. The basic durability requirements presented in the structural codes, as well as full probabilistic procedures taking into account statistical properties, are considered. In particular, the limiting values method, the factor method, the semi-probabilistic dimensioning methods such as the lifetime safety factor method and alternative approaches are presented.

    Sustainable development refers to the development of a business in such a way that future generations will be able to satisfy the same needs. This article describes how sustainable development can be measured by economic performance and a positive impact on the natural environment. A general indicator of a company’s environmental impact is presented in the article. It can be determined, on the one hand, by a company’s environmental impact, and on the other hand, by savings in the use of natural resources, which is associated with savings in a financial sense. Therefore, it can be used to analyze the progress of sustainability in terms of environmental and economic performance. The case study provides an example of how emissions and energy factors can be analyzed to form a synthetic indicator and create a general indicator.

    Górnictwo mimo, że dostarcza gospodarce i społeczeństwu niezbędne surowce mineralne warunkujące rozwój gospodarczy i cywilizacyjny postrzegane jest głównie przez pryzmat negatywnych oddziaływań, szczególnie na środowisko. Nie bierze się pod uwagę, że jak żadna gałąź przemysłu w Polsce, działalność górnicza obwarowana jest systemem prawno-finansowym gwarantującym naprawę i rekompensatę skutków eksploatacji złóż kopalin. W referacie poruszono problem zabezpieczeń prawno-finansowych, jakie ustawodawca przewidział dla naprawy ewentualnych skutków działalności górniczej. Omówiono zagadnienia związane z zajmowaniem terenów pod działalność górniczą oraz rekompensaty za zmianę sposobu użytkowania gruntów, a także obowiązki rekultywacyjne przedsiębiorstw górniczych. Przedstawiono zabezpieczenia, fundusze i gwarancje finansowe na zlikwidowanie negatywnych skutków eksploatacji złóż kopalin, zabezpieczenie roszczeń mogących powstać wskutek wykonywania działalności objętej koncesją oraz zabezpieczenie na przypadek niewykonania lub nienależytego wykonania warunków koncesji. Omówiono zmiany wprowadzone 11 lipca 2014 r. nowelizacją Prawa geologicznego i górniczego odnoszące się do zakresu koncesji dotyczącej poszukiwania i rozpoznawania złóż węglowodorów. Przedstawiono zagadnienie tworzenia funduszu likwidacji zakładu górniczego. Obok zagadnień typowo górniczych poruszono również problem tworzenia gwarancji finansowych na pokrycie kosztów funkcjonowania, zamknięcia oraz rekultywacji obiektów unieszkodliwiania odpadów wydobywczych kategorii A. Omówione w artykule formy zabezpieczeń i gwarancji finansowych zapewniają środki na naprawę skutków działalności górniczej, w tym również środki rekompensujące szkody nawet w sytuacji niewypłacalności przedsiębiorców, np. wskutek utraty rentowności zakładu. Liczne przykłady z górnictwa podziemnego, odkrywkowego i otworowego potwierdzają, że polskie górnictwo wywiązuje się z obowiązków nie tylko naprawy skutków, ale tworzy też nowe wartości użytkowe na oddawanych terenach.
    Mining provides the essential minerals determining the development of the economy and civilization. Despite this, mining is primarily seen as an activity causing damage to the environment. Most people do not know that - unlike any other branch of industry in Poland - mining has a system of legal and financial guarantees to repair and compensate for its negative impact on the environment. The paper addresses the problems of financial and legal security provided by the legislators for the repair of potential effects of mining activities. The issues related to the acquisition of land for mining activities, compensation of the change of land use and reclamation obligations of mining companies were discussed. The hedge funds and financial guarantees to eliminate the negative effects of the operation as well as warranty of claims which could arise as a result of mining activities and financial warranty in case of derogation from the mining permit have been presented. The changes introduced with amendment to the Geological and Mining Law on July 11 2014 relating to the scope of the mining permit concerning exploration and prospecting of hydrocarbons have been discussed. The problems connected to creation of mine closure funds have been described. In addition to typical mining problems the issue of creating financial guarantees to cover the costs of the operation, closure and reclamation of mining waste facilities have been raised. Numerous examples from underground, surface and borehole mining confirm that Polish mining industry complies well with responsibilities not only to repair the negative effects of its operations, but it also creates new values in post-mining areas.

    In pursuance of the Saudi vision 2030, the Al-Hasa municipality has been allocating a total of US$ 60.1 million since 2018 to the implementation of a modern Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW) management system. In addition to the improved old components, the system involves six new-engineered cells, five of which will be gradually implemented in progresses, two waste sort-out lines station, and LFG energy recovery. The present research aimed at investigating the environmental and economic impacts of this MSW management system. For this purpose, the authors applied the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Life Cycle Costs Analysis (LCCA) approaches. The main results showed that the air quality was not affected. For instance, gas emission, like carbon monoxide, was less than 0.1 ppm. However, soil and groundwater were contaminated due to leachate infiltration from the uncontrolled cell in which Chloride, Nitrate, and Sulfate exceeded the maximum limits. As for noise, it was found to be high near the sorting-out station at 71.1 Leq dBA. In terms of the financial aspect, the improved MSW management was relatively feasible despite its high costs over its revenues. Thus, the negative cash-flow could be supplemented by setting household taxes at US$ 29 per capita per year, which makes the project cost-effective. Thus, the research recommends continuing the MSW management project.
