Opis:
The article discusses the methods of defining and describing the processes of learning in what is generally acknowledged as the learning environment. In the contemporary pedagogical discourse the category of the “learning environment” (formerly associated with the surroundings of school and the classroom) is always expanding and acquiring new meanings, in the wake of ecological changes and the virtualisation of contemporary culture. The “learning environment” becomes a part of the ongoing descholarisation, which manifests itself, for example, in the “open space” movement, outdoor education or “Gesamtschule”, the trends related to the transfer of education outside of school. In the last part of the text, a postulate is formed to include a “learning for the environment” category to the pedagogical theory and practice. This stems from the need to deepen the social sensitivity of the threat of degradation of the entire ecosystem in which we live today.

Opis:
The aim of this work was to estimate mobility of pollutants contained in ashsludge granulates, expressed by their possibilities of elution by water and by estimating their potential danger to the environment. Materials used in experimental research (one stage leaching tests) was ash-sludge granulates made of two different kinds of waste: fly ashes from brown coal (30%) from 'Bełchatów' Powerplant and communal sewage sludge (70%) from municipal sewage treatment plant in Zabrze (southern Poland). However sewage sludge are an alternative to organic fertilizers (e.g. manure) and nitrogen and phosphorus content is relatively high but potassium concentrations are much less. Tested sewage sludge were modified by various potassium salts, which would improve their fertilizing abilities because potassium is easy-leaching element during sewage treatment. In first part of sewages KCl and in second K2SO4 were used both in load 344 g/kg d.m. Blank tests were carried on unmodified material. One stage leaching test were carried and equilibrium was reached after 24 hours. Water extracts (eluates) were analyzed for presence of nitrogen group compounds, phosphorus, chlorides, sulphates, magnesium, calcium and heavy metals. Also loads of particular compounds were calculated. On the basis of research (leaching test) there has been calculated a load of the pollution that were being washed out in mg/kg dry mass of used granulates. Eluates obtained in one-stage leaching tests had alkaline pH and high EC value which rise with potassium concentrations. In eluates from tested materials some parameters (e.g. ammonium, nitrites, COD, sulphates and potassium) exceed polish limits for sewages discharged to waters and grounds. Especially high were chlorides concentrations (10 times to high) due to KCl content. The highest heavy metals concentrations were observed in eluates from granulates modified by K2SO4 due to lower pH value in comparison to unmodified material. In next step in this researches will be to find optimal balance between fly ash and sewage sludge and use compounds for pH corrections.

The subject of the considerations contained in the study is an attempt to determine whether when creating the content of Art. 4 of the Act of April 27, 2001, Environmental Protection Law, was used as a model for solutions regarding the use of water contained in the Water Law Act. This view is expressed quite often in the reference literature. The analysis carried out in this paper proves that such a view is not sufficiently justified, as evidenced primarily by significant differences in the regulation method used in Art. 4 and in the Water Law Act.

Measles-mumps vaccinations might be responsible for the development of autism spectrum diseases (ASD), including high functioning autism, such as Asperger’s syndrome; that is what Wakefield et al. suggested in a paper in The Lancet twenty years ago [1]. Later, the Lancet Editors retracted this publication [2], due to the fact that Wakefield had „produced“ fake, falsified results, and that he was implicated in interests regarding material compensation from pharmaceutical companies producing vaccines to families with ASD. The Wakefield publication had the effect that consequently vaccination rates declined dramatically, and fuelled discussions about other environmental factors (bacteria, mercury, pesticides, etc.).

Opis:
Biosurfactants are surface-active molecules produced by variety of microorganisms like bacteria, yeasts or fungi. They consist of both hydrophilic (polar head) and hydrophobic (non-polar chain) moiety. Such structure allows them to reduce interfacial tension or create microemulsions. Biosurfactants can be produced as a part of cell membrane or extracellular compounds. They show foaming, wetting, emulsifying and dispersing properties. Biosurfactants are characterized by low toxicity, high biodegradability and they do not accumulate in living organisms. Biosurfactants are mostly used in environmental clean-up technologies. However due to many properties biosurfactants find use in various industries, such as: petroleum, pharmaceutical, textile or cosmetic. Microbial surface active compounds can improve the degradation of hydrocarbons from soil and water. Besides they are capable of degrading polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Biosurfactants help removing heavy metals like lead, cadmium or zinc, from soil. Rhamnolipids synthesized by bacteria of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa are the most commonly used biosurfactants in the remediation process. The aim of this paper is to present different applications of biosurfactants in environmental remediation based on literature review. The paper is based on literature studies.

The present article aims to reflect on the relationship of man to nature, namely the relationship of culture and environmental crisis. The following considerations are largely based on the one hand, the concept of evolutionary ontology Šmajs Joseph, on the other hand, the idea of Erich Fromm that in the context of the environmental crisis and its relation to culture and humanity offer attractive incentives for reflection. This concerns in particular the attempt to develop a more moderate approach that could serve as an acceptable platform for further reflection on this issue. While such an approach is based on the traditional view on this issue, which in the last century attempted to justify the extension of moral respect to all living flesh, no response yet on their weaknesses and try to give new impetus to the still current discourse. Therefore your attention article focuses on reflection on the transformation of culture that in these contexts, the words ŠMAJS appears to be an evolutionary possibility and an existential necessity.

The problem discussed in the article has become an inherent part of the contemporary tendency of growing interest in environmental issues, permeating from the natural sciences to the humanities and social sciences. The author, as a humanist by training, combined the concept of the human environ- ment, and thus the natural issue, with the humanistic and social problems in the article (i.e., he did so in the interdisciplinary dimension). Such a vision (a specific philosophy) of combining these mul- tidisciplinary issues has also led the author to outline his concept of environmental security, closely related to the idea of the human environment discussed earlier.

Opis:
Hydroxylapatites are important biomaterials. Substitutions of Pb for Ca and As for P in hydroxylapatites are recently intensively studied due to their significance in the environmental immobilization of Pb and As (Lee et al. 2009, Chlebowska et al. 2015, Motyka et al. 2015). The general chemical formula of minerals in the apatite group is expressed by A 5 (XO 4 ) 3 Z, where A are bivalent cations (e.g., Ca 2+ or Pb 2+ , cations are distributed on two distinct crystallographic sites), XO 4 is a trivalent oxyanion (e.g., PO 4 3, AsO 4 3 - ), and Z is a monovalent anion (OH, F, Cl, or O). Positions Z and X may be partly filled with carbonate CO 3 2−. The structure of hydroxylapatite allows for unlimited substitutions of Pb 2+ for Ca 2+ and AsO 4 3− for PO 4 3−. The ability of lead and arsenic apatites to immobilize these toxic elements result from their high durability and low solubility at the conditions on the Earth surface. Various apatites possess different thermodynamic properties including different solubility in aqueous solutions but the systematic variation of these properties in solid solution series is poorly understood. The main objective of this research is determination of systematic variation in the solubilities of hydroxylapatites resulting from cationic substitutions of Pb 2+ for Ca 2+ and anionic substitutions of AsO 4 3− for PO 4 3− in their structure. Three solid solution series were synthesized: - HPY hydroxypyromorphite Pb 5 (PO 4 ) 3 OH – HAP hydroxyapatite Ca 5 (PO 4 ) 3 OH, HMi hydroxymimetite Pb 5 (AsO 4 ) 3 OH – JBM johnbaumite Ca 5 (AsO 4 ) 3 OH, - HAP hydroxyapatite Ca 5 (PO 4 ) 3 OH – JBM johnbaumite Ca 5 (AsO 4 ) 3 OH. The phases were synthesized from aqueous solutions at high pH above 8, at ambient temperature, by dropwise mixing of chemical reagents. The products are white, fine, homogeneous crystalline powders. Chemical composition determined by SEM/EDS is close to theoretical. X-ray diffraction confirms their crystalline structure and systematic changes in unit cell parameters with ionic substitution. Dissolution experiments were run in thermostatic bath at 25°C. An aliquot of 0.5 g of apatite was dissolved in 250 mL of 0.05M NH 4 NO 3 background solution at pH in the range of 3.5–5.0. Background solution was used to keep the ionic strength constant. The dissolution was carried out for 3 months. The bottles were manually stirred at least two times a week. The solution was syringe-sampled periodically and filtered through 0.2 μm polycarbonate filter to remove the suspended solids. The concentration of Pb and Ca was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The concentration of dissolved phosphates and arsenates was determined by UV-vis colorimetry using a molybdenum blue method. The plateau on concentration evolution patterns from the dissolution experiments was observed to determine equilibrium in the suspensions. Dissolution of all the phases at the conditions of these experiments is incongruent. An increase in solution pH resulting from dissolution was observed in all cases. The system was considered in equilibrium when at least three consecutive samples showed identical concentration of Ca 2+ or AsO 4 3−. The equilibrium in HPY series was assumed by analogy. All the concentrations were recalculated to activities using PHREEQC model with Llnl database. The solubility K sp determined for the endmembers at 25°C conform with the literature data and equal to: HPY-K sp = 10 −7 7. 31 , HAP-K sp = 10 −55.66 , HMi-K sp = 10 −71. 56 , and JBM K sp = 10 −37.76. This confirms that, despite the incongruence of dissolution, the experimental procedure and the calculation scheme provide reliable approximation of the solubilities. The most soluble phase is johnbaumite Ca 5 (AsO 4 ) 3 OH. The solubility of all hydroxylapatites decreases linearly with the increase of Pb and P content. These trends do not correlate with the changes in Gibbs free energy of formation of the phases in question. This indicates that structural (e.g. the size of the ions) and the chemical factors (e.g. electronegativity) play the dominant role in the solubility of substituted hydroxylapatites.

The European Commission assumes that apart from the legal regulations and the other instruments, the market administrative instruments should be applied to a large extent, therein the systems of trading the powers to emission, taxes and grants, as the remunerative tool of realizing the ecological purposes and the other aims of the policy at the Union and national level. This is according to the Lisbon strategy, the strategy for the balanced development and the strategy towards the better legal regulations. The most important aspect of this longlasting role is the fact that these instruments afford the relevant, presented in this document, benefits for the fiscal goals, within the environmental protection and the allocation of the resources. By means of this document the Commission would like to initiate the discussion about the greater participating of the community market instruments in implementation of these purposes, particularly, if it concerns the indirect taxes. In this document there are also the other areas defined about applying the market instruments, in case of which the Community could facilitate the exchange of some verified solutions. The Commission expects the reaction to their presented conceptions and the answer to some basic particular questions and also the opinion about the market instruments, which of them would be the best to achieve the maximum of positive effects.

It was presented the ways of methane leakages during transport by sea. Due to greenhouse (GH), effect of carbon dioxide on atmosphere it was mentioned the carbon cycle on the Earth. Carbon dioxide is the main GH gas and it was indicated the change of concentration during last sixty years. It was increased about 30%. The possible methane leakages from vessels may increase the total GH effect due to high Global Warming Potential (GWP) of methane and other hydrocarbons. The carbon dioxide emission from engines is about 30% lower that from liquid marine fuels (diesel oils and heavy fuels). The liquefied natural gas (LNG) or compressed natural gas (CNG) seems to be a good ecological marine fuel. Due to methane leakages estimated on the level of 1-10% from mining to burning in the engines and the GWP on the level about 72-84 the look on methane as ecological fuel may change. It was calculated the equivalent effect (additional effect) of using methane as a marine fuel. Methane leakage on the level of 1-2.5% is equivalent to the same warming effect to the atmosphere as using popular marine diesel oils. Therefore, the leakage of methane during all operations should be as small as possible. In many cases, it is a serious problem for calculating the real leakages so they may be only estimated.

In long tradition the pedagogical reflection, taking into account the multiplicity of ways that impact the environment and his “presence” in a person’s life develops knowledge about its different types, but also the ontological, epistemological and axiological models. Knowledge of the environment is also, and perhaps above all a challenge for teaching practice which includes human lifelong activity. In this respect it has already identified a number of models such conduct educational that takes into the environmental conditions. We can talk about environmental education, socio-cultural animation and a whole range of educational activities undertaken and implemented and carried out on the basis of social work. Not without significance are also influences from other social sciences, which in conjunction with the activities characteristic of pedagogy expanded possible ways to the educational impact.
