Opis:
In this paper, a novel fuel-injection mechatronic control method and system for direct injection (DI) internal combustion engines (ICE) is proposed. This method and system is based on the energy saving in a capacitance using DC-DC converter, giving a very fast ON state of the fuel injectors’ electro-magnetic fluidical valves without an application of the initial load current. A fuel-injection controller for the DI ICEs that provides a very short rising time of an electromagnet-winding current in an initial ON state of the fuel-injector’s electromagnetic fluidical valves, which improves a fuel-injection controller reliability and simplify its construction, is presented. Due to a number of advantages of afore -mentioned fuel-injection mechatronic control method and system, it may be utilised for the DI ICEs with fuel injectors dedicated to all types of liquid and/or gas fuels, for example, gasoline, diesel-oil, alkohol, LPG and NPG.

Opis:
The multiple fuel injection is being applied not only in diesel engines but in direct injection gasoline engines as well. The injection duration in gasoline engines is similar (pressure values at present approx. 20 MPa) to the injection duration of diesel fuel. The methodology and results of the tests related to the fuel dose division and injection strategy on the thermodynamic indexes during the combustion process have been presented in the paper. The tests were performed for several ways of fuel dose division at injection pressures of 5, 10 and 20 MPa (modifying also the time of the injection). The paper presents: state of research on the effects of multiple injection in gasoline engines, research equipment and methodology when applying the Rapid Compression Machine, estimation of the thermodynamic indexes, injection strategies, influence of injection pressure on the thermodynamic indexes, single fuel dose, two-phase fuel injection, three-phase fuel injection, changes in the combustion pressure, changes of the average thermodynamic temperature of the charge in the cylinder, heat release rate, heat release and relative value of the heat used for strategies, the influence of the fuel injection pressure on the course of the combustion in a Rapid Compression Machine including the course of the heat release.

Opis:
This paper analyzes aprocess of combustion in a spark-ignition engine. The aim of the analysis was to determine the differences in the combustion process between the engine with a classic multipoint injection system and a system which injects fuel directly to the cylinders as well. To aid in the analysis the measurements of the high variable pressure in the engine's cylinder against the crankshaft angle were taken. This allowed us to obtain indicated diagrams for both types of engines. To eliminate distortions, both functions were approximated using combined functions. The other basic parameters were also measured: torque, RPM and instantaneous fuel consumption. The analysis of the indicated diagrams yielded an indicated mean pressure and thermal efficiency for both fuel systems. Then, a comprehensive analysis ofpressures in cylinders was performed in order to determine the way the flame spreads in the cylinder for the two types of engines. The results obtained from this analysis show that the speed of combustion is greater for the charge formed by the dual-injector fuel system. The increased speed of the combustion, especially when it reaches a 50% fraction of the exhaust gas in the cylinder, is what accounts for the increase in the indicated mean pressure and the increase in the thermal efficiency of the engine with a dual-injector fuel system. The time of the spreading of the flame, as well as the fast burn period were reduced. The increased efficiency of the combustion process in the cylinder me ans that the heat losses through the cylinder sleeve are greatly reduced. The results of the research in this paper confirm the purposefulness of using a dual-injector fuel system in a spark-ignition engine.

Opis:
This paper is about computer modelling of a four-stroke spark-ignition engine with a dual-injector system. Using a KIVA-3V program for Linux, computer simulations were performed for one of the cylinders fuelled by multipoint injection and by the dual-injector system, i. e. with direct injection into the cylinders on top of MPI. The modelling was done for a combustion engine Toyota 2SZ-FE with a dual-injector system. Both simulations were done for the same parameters of engine's work, i.e. at the same RPM of 2000 and the intake pipe pressure of 0.079 MPa. KIVA-3V program models the processes taking place in an internat combustion engine while taking into account physical and chemical phenomena occurring during the formation of a charge and during its combustion. Using a stochastic model of injection the program takes into account the movement of droplets and their dispersion. The results of the simulation show that the dual-injector system has an improved volumetric coefficient, i.e. improved engine performance. An increase in the engine's indicated pressure was also observed; this increases the engine's total efficiency. The intensification of the charge's angular momentum in a cylinder with a dual-injector system can explain the improvements in the course of combustion process. Because the air-fuel mixture was already partially formed in the engine there was a small increase in the unburned hydrocarbons in the cylinder. However, a marked drop in the carbon monoxide and nitric oxide were observed for the dual-injector system. Analyzing the overall results of the simulations one can ascertain a positive impact of using a dual-injector system on the working parameters of a spark-ignition engine.

The paper analyses the impact of using a dual-injection system on the engine's working parameters. The analysis is based on the results of the test stand research on a four-stroke four-cylinder, spark-ignition engine. Dual-injection system combines the multipoint injection with additional injection directly into the combustion chamber. It is used to increase the performance of an engine without affecting the fuel consumption or the low toxicity of exhaust gas. For the purposes of this research an engine from Toyota Yaris was fitted with the direct injection by installing high pressure injectors on the cylinder head. This engine is factory-equipped with MPL Based on the tests performed four controlling characteristics of the torque and brake specific fuel consumption were prepared. The controlling value was the proportion of the fuel injected into the inlet channel to the fuel injected directly into the combustion chamber. The same relationships were also described in relation to temperature of the exhaust gas and the fraction in volume in the exhaust gas of ingredients such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, unburned hydrocarbons and nitric oxide. Points of measurement were decided upon basedon the existing literature on the subject. The analysis of the test results shows apossibility ofa 2-4% decrease in the brake specific fuel consumption for the dual-injection engine in the low and middle RPM range and for the partial loads. The dual-injection engine also shows a decrease in the nitric oxide's fraction in the exhaust gas and a lower temperature of the exhaust gas. There was a small increase in the carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.

Opis:
The operating conditions of injectors in spark ignition engines with direct fuel injection make them susceptible to coking, which leads to a reduced quality of fuel atomization. This can be observed by a drop in performance and an increase in exhaust emissions, especially particulate matter. One effective method of reducing injector coking is by using detergentdispersing gasoline additives. The article describes the effect of using an admixture with a varied alcohol content on the quantitative and qualitative fuel atomization indicators. The research consisted of a 48-hour engine test, done in accordance with the CEC F-113-KC procedure (CEC-F-113 test). After each test cycle, the injectors underwent optical tests with the use of an isochoric chamber. The spray penetration and surface area were analyzed at a set of different fuel injection parameter values. The research performed resulted in determining the influence of each tested admixture on the change of injection time and on the geometric indicators of the fuel spray. The obtained characteristics of the engine in operation and conducted stationary tests enabled the operational evaluation of the impact an alcohol admixture with gasoline fuels had on key engine parameters.

Opis:
In this study dual fuel direct injection was studied in terms of utilizing in compression ignition engines gaseous fuels with high octane number which are stored in liquid form, specifically liquid propane. Due to the fact that propane is not as much knock-resistant as natural gas, instead of conventional dual fuel system a system based on simultaneous direct injection of two fuel was selected as the most promissing one. Dual fuel operation was compared with pure diesel operation. The performed simulations showed huge potential of dual fuel system for burning light hydrocarbons in heavy duty compression ignition engines. However, further secondary fuel injection system optimization is required in order to improve atomization and lower the emissions.

Opis:
The main objective of this research was an attempt to evaluate the delay times of the actual needle opening of the diesel injectors in relation to the time of triggering the current control signals opening the solenoid and piezoelectric high-pressure injectors of diesel engines. The conducted tests take into account the variability of fuel injection pressure and backpressure prevailing in the operational chamber of the engine. To determine accurately the time of actual injection start, the optical tests analysing the image of the injector tip were used. Such high resolution images were obtained by high-speed recording with a frequency of 250 kHz (Dt = 0.004 ms). Based on a comparison of the results obtained, it was found that the maximum delay time of fuel injection for a piezoelectric diesel injector is about 12% shorter than for a solenoid injector. Experimentally obtained results of the injection time delay were used as a basis to formulate mathematical models describing the delay of the real fuel injection in relation to the signal controlling the opening of the diesel injectors. These models take into account the dependence of the injector reaction from the injection pressure and the backpressure in the operational chamber of the engine. The correctness of the obtained models is confirmed by acceptable values of the determination coefficient (for solenoid injector – 0.6, for piezoelectric injector – above 0.8 – for correlation of injection delay and backpressure).
