This article concentrates on the characterization of the transition from social interactions to interpersonal communication. For this purpose analysis of the structure of communication process was conducted on two levels: general and specific. The former focuses on the conditions of the transition from interaction to communication, and further to contact. The latter offers the analysis of the dimensions of interpersonal communication. The conclusion deals with the importance of interlocutors’ intentionality as well as appropriate regulation and coordination of the dimensions of communication for effective communication.

During communication in early childhood education, the teacher may adopt a fully dominant role in speaking in the classroom. He manages verbal space by agreeing to or refusing the possibility of speaking up, therefore socializing children to function in a structure of power and control. In order to verify the above statement I observed classes in the grades of early education in 3 public elementary schools in a large provincial town in the school year 2013/2014. The observation was aimed at the use of language situations that bore signs of teacher verbal violence against children. The aim of my research was to find out what means of verbal violence teachers of early education use in their communication with pupils and in what situations they do it. On the basis of observations, I singled out several kinds of situations, where a teacher used language to prepare children to function in a reality of subordination to authority, such as: teacher drill, action “in the school way”, the cult of formal correctness, the cult of silence, and the facade of appearances.

Research has not yet adequately explored the potential interplay between the physician’s gender and the patient’s perception of the service quality. Although various studies have covered the measurement of service quality in the hospital industry, the gender perspective has not been touched on significantly. This study is a review article that aims to explore how gender matters to the physician-patient interaction in the service setting. It discusses the patient’s responses to physicians of different genders and the behavior of physicians of different genders. Consequently, it was found that gender is one of the factors that influence the physician-patient interaction and patients’ perception of the doctor’s competence. The gender of the physician as well as the patient could influence the communication level in medical encounters. Gender-based stereotypes in the service encounter could also affect the patient-physician interaction and the evaluations that patients give to physicians. Moreover, it was discussed that traditions, religion, culture, stereotypes and past experience serve as a foundation for customers to form a preference for the physician’s sex. The relationship between the physician and the patient is shaped by many factors lying on both the patient’s and the doctor’s side. These factors include the difference in communication style between males and females, the patient-physician gender dyad, the difference in personality traits between males and females. All these factors fall under the service dimension that is essential in measuring the quality of service.

At a time when China is assuming an increasingly influential role in world geostrategy, especially through economic and diplomatic power, there is still some ignorance about Chinese culture (Jullien, 2010). The aim of this article is to contribute to the understanding of the values of Chinese culture by reviewing the concepts of culture and communication in Chinese society based on the cultural dimensions advocated by Hofstede and on Miike’s “Asiacentric” perspectives. Based on the interpretation of these concepts, the present study argues that the development of communicative and intercultural competences is crucial not only to approach Chinese culture without generalizations or stereotyped insights but also for the benefit of dialogue between cultures and nations, so imperative these days.
Numa época em que a China assume um papel cada vez mais influente na geoestratégia mundial, sobretudo através do poderio económico e diplomático, persiste ainda algum desconhecimento sobre a cultura chinesa (Jullien, 2010). O objetivo deste artigo é contribuir para a compreensão dos valores da cultura chinesa analisando os conceitos de cultura e de comunicação na sociedade chinesa à luz das dimensões culturais preconizadas por Hofstede e das perspectivas “asiacêntricas” defendidas por Miike. Com base na interpertação destes conceitos, o presente estudo defende que o desenvolvimento de competências comunicativas e interculturais se apresenta como um meio indispensável não só para conhecer a cultura chinesa sem uma abordagem apriorística ou estereotipada mas também para o sucesso do diálogo entre culturas e povos, tão premente nos dias que correm.

The paper concentrates on the notion of interaction with regard to se-lected theoretical orientations and perspectives. First, the definitions of the three frequently overlapping terms – communication, discourse and interaction – are discussed with particular attention given to their mutual relationships within presented interpretations. Next, the status of interaction in some psychological, sociological and pedagogical ori-en¬tations is briefly illustrated and a closer look is taken at interaction within cognitive, sociocultural and interactionist approaches to foreign language teaching and learning. The following part of the article fo-cuses on types of interaction in the foreign language classroom. Finally, the selected interpretations of the construct of interactional com-petence are presented and analysed.

Most sociological action theories and typologies were not able to establish interdependencies and sequences between different types of action. They also ignored the existential meaning of the choices the typologies implicitly involved. The imaginative dispositions and the ability to critically examine one’s own presuppositions are shown to constitute action as a future-oriented, self-expressing, and interpersonal phenomenon. Both dimensions may be found in the Socratic dialogical attitude but should not be taken as constituting a normative nor even a desirable type of action. The article identifies several limits of dialogue and its relationships with other types of action defined according to the same criteria.

Game theory can be viewed as an important contribution to multi-agent modeling, with widespread applications in economics and other social sciences. This paper presents two distinct approaches to extending – sociologizing – classical game theory: firstly, a system/institutional approach – social science game theory (SGT), and secondly, Erving Goffman’s interactionist approach (I-game theory). The two approaches are presented and compared; they are also contrasted with the classical theory. The article ends by concluding that due to the social science game theory, sociologists and social scientists are no longer forced into the classical straightjacket with its hyper-rationality, anomic players, and the absence of any social fabric (institutional and cultural formations). Moreover, the new game theory offers a reliable toolbox of social science concepts and methods for describing, analyzing, and explaining highly diverse interaction phenomena. We claim that those two approaches have already proved themselves useful for investigating and modeling a variety of interaction processes including cooperation, conflict, and negotiation.

Assessing as an integral element of the education process is the subject of many discussions. They focus, among other things, on the systems, methods, tools and criteria for assessing student’s educational achievements described in the context of didactic measurement theories and applicable legal bases. Relatively little space is devoted to research on the communication, axiological and formation aspects of this process, personal relationships that are/can be associated with it, and concern teachers and students. In the light of the findings presented, it is this dimension of assessment that should be more appreciated in educational theory and practice. This can be supported by the exemplary evaluation strategies described in the text, understood as interactive communication, the main purpose of which is to support and stimulate student development as part of non-standard assessment practices that a teacher can use.
Ocenianie, jako integralny element procesu kształcenia, stanowi przedmiot wielu dyskusji i ciągle aktualnych, ważnych problemów. Koncentrują się one m.in. wokół stosowanych w szkole systemów, metod, narzędzi i kryteriów oceny osiągnięć edukacyjnych ucznia, opisywanych w kontekście teorii pomiaru dydaktycznego i obowiązujących podstaw prawnych. Stosunkowo niewiele miejsca poświęca się w badaniach nad ocenianiem komunikacyjnym, aksjologicznym i formacyjnym aspektom tego procesu, relacjom personalnym, jakie z nim są lub mogą być związane, a dotyczą nauczycieli i uczniów. W świetle przedstawionych ustaleń to właśnie ten wymiar oceniania powinien być bardziej dowartościowany w teorii i praktyce edukacyjnej. Mogą temu sprzyjać opisane w tekście przykładowe strategie oceniania rozumianego jako komunikacja interakcyjna, której głównym celem jest wspieranie i stymulowanie rozwoju ucznia w ramach niestandardowych praktyk oceniania, jakie może stosować nauczyciel.

Opis:
Efficient communication is the key to mutual understanding between the authorities and citizens, and thus to public support for government decisions. EU Member States follow the principle that the democracy is based on the lasting dialogue focused on the inclusion of all citizens in decision-making processes. At local level, Member States implemented communication projects and initiatives, which then became the cornerstone for national programs directed at the support of communication. The purpose of all communication initiatives is to involve the citizens in discussions concerning the development of towns, city areas, regions, states and to listen to public proposals, which are then included in the national policies. The exemplary experience of Germany, France, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden and Finland has been researched.

Technologie wspomagające w edukacji dzieci i młodzieży z niepełnosprawnością wzroku stają się coraz powszechniejsze. Pomimo ograniczonych danych na temat ich efektywności, w literaturze można znaleźć informacje, że pozytywnie oddziałują na dostęp do informacji. Odpowiednio dobrane i zaimplementowane rozwiązania mają jednak szersze znaczenie, wykraczające poza dostęp do materiałów edukacyjnych. Mogą one wzbogacić integrację społeczną, umożliwiając wszystkim zainteresowanym interakcję w formalnych i nieformalnych sytuacjach komunikacyjnych.
Assistive technology has been present in the educational setting of children with visual impairments for years. Although there is still shortage of solid data that proves its validity, literature informs about the increased access to information among children with disabilities. The effective selection and implementation of assistive solutions has a broader meaning apart from giving access to learning aids. It can also support social inclusion by offering tools that allow for unimpaired interactions in a variety of formal and informal communication situations.

The play world of children with autism is based on a fixed formula of their behaviour. They do not participate willingly in games taken up spontaneously and any attempts to initiate them or join games voluntarily are not always successful. They wish to participate in social contacts like every child, they have motivation towards it but they lack the appropriate knowledge and skills in how to get involved in them normally (Pisula, 2005, p. 103; see Njardvik, Matson & Cherry, 1999, pp. 287-295). The effective method that supports problem solving and enables children to learn social skills, including play skills, is the usage of Comic Strip Conversations, which arranges in a systematic way “what people say and do, and emphasize what people may be thinking” (Gray, 1994, p. 1).

The article deals with the most important results of the grant research into interpersonal relations in young offenders institutes. The young offenders institutes are resocializing and reeducational establishments for maladaptive children and teenagers. In these institutes the research was done into relations between management workers and educators, relations among the educators themselves, relations between educators and wards and the attitudes of staff to the interpersonal behaviour. Information on results gained mostly by standardized methods are rather illustrative in the article. The main emphasis is put on the results of the so called non-structured participative observation. Students of the resocialization branch of counselling examined the communication of the pedagogical workers as well as the wards during the period of 4-10 weeks in 10 different institutes. The article informs mainly about the communication between management workers and educators and also between educators and wards.

The present paper discusses selected terminological problems typical of the field of foreign language teaching and learning. The discussion concentrates on several terms commonly used in various glottodidactic debates, namely: competence, communication, interaction, discourse, authenticity and individual differences. The article attempts to indicate the sources of inconsistencies in the terminology, offers several examples and interpretations of these terms in questions from the relevant literature, and determines potential consequences. The aim of the paper is also to indicate areas of glottodidactic research which may be particularly sensitive to such terminological confusion and to stress the necessity of identifying the theoretical perspective and defining the terms central to the particular research project or discussion.
