    Introduction: This paper focuses on providing social care to a close relative. It is crucial in social services. Design: qualitative methodology – method of semi-structured interviews. Methods: respondents were selected to satisfy specific criteria. Particularly, these criteria were the care of a close relative who was assigned level III or IV care benefits. Another criterion according to which we selected respondents was that the carer belonged to the age group in which a person is still usually economically active. The research sample consisted of 6 respondents. Results: Based on the data analysis, we created categories to present the content of semi-structured interviews. Needs focusing on the body carried over into maintenance of one’s own physical and mental health are: the need for safety, the need for acceptance, the need for acknowledgement and respect, and the need for self-fulfilment and perspective. Conclusions: It is important to identify the care of a close relative, the specifics and needs, in the interests of configuring effective management of medical, psychological and social care, and creation of a system of social protection.

    The presented article concerns the phenomenon of infantilization of the elderly in many areas of everyday by their family carers. Infantilization means treating an adult like a child. In the sphere of language, this phenomenon is called baby-talk. Often infantilization of the elderly concerns the sphere of communication. The author of the article shows that not only during conversations they are treated as children. Family carers showed signs of infantilization, referring to the care and nursing of the elderly under their care. This article is an excerpt from a broader study of family carers for the elderly. The study was conducted with 20 carers of the elderly using the unstructured interview method in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. The analysis of the research material was performed using the MAXQDA software. The result of a broad analysis is the research report presented in this study, which shows that infantilization is multidimensional and nonconscious. It results from the lack of preparation of the family carers for the role of a caregiver. Due to their insufficient knowledge about looking after an old person, the careres are forced to base their knowledge on their experience as parents.

    Artykuł przedstawia rozwiązania przyjęte przez niemieckiego ustawodawcę w społecznym ubezpieczeniu pielęgnacyjnym, które podkreślają rolę opieki sprawowanej przez krewnych. Zasadnicza część opracowania jest poprzedzona wprowadzeniem oraz genezą ubezpieczenia pielęgnacyjnego w Niemczech. Autor omawia rozwiązania, które w sposób pośredni i bezpośredni przyczyniają się do wspierania opieki sprawowanej nad osobami niesamodzielnymi przez najbliższych. Ubezpieczenie pielęgnacyjne w swoim założeniu nie miało bowiem zwolnić rodziny z obowiązku sprawowania opieki, ale stanowić przede wszystkim system wsparcia takiej opieki, zgodnie z zasadą subsydiarności.
    This article presents solutions adopted by the German legislator in social nursing insurance, which emphasize the role of care performed by the relatives. The basic part of the study is preceded by the introduction and origins of nursing insurance in Germany. The author discusses solutions that directly and indirectly contribute to the support of care given to the dependents by the relatives. Nursing insurance was not intended to exempt the family from the obligation to provide care, but rather to provide support for such care, in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity.

    Opieka postrzegana jest jako zadanie kobiet, które najczęściej realizują nieformalną opiekę nad członkami rodziny, jednak w wyniku zmian społeczno-ekonomicznych i kulturowych coraz częściej starsi mężczyźni pełnią funkcję głównego opiekuna swych przewlekle chorych partnerek. W ramach badań autorka przeprowadziła dziesięć wywiadów pogłębionych z mężczyznami w wieku od 64 do 90 lat, którzy definiowali się jako główni opiekunowie swych przewlekle chorych żon. Celem badań było określenie, w jaki sposób mężczyźni postrzegają siebie jako opiekunów i jak definiują opiekę w ramach swych biografii. Autorka skupiła się również na sposobie konstruowania przez mężów męskości w obliczu podjęcia roli opiekuna. Analizy wykazały, że głównym motywem podejmowania opieki nad żoną przez partnerów było poczucie obowiązku. Ponadto opieka instytucjonalna była najczęściej traktowana jako ostateczność, a w kontekście konstruowania męskości często jako porażka. Analizy wskazały, że istotnym czynnikiem konstruowania męskości przez mężów opiekujących się przewlekle chorymi żonami był sposób definiowania opieki.
    Care is perceived as a female task, and it is still the case that women are most often the ones who provide care among family members. But as an effect of socio-economic and cultural changes, increasing numbers of older husbands have become the primary carers. The author research draws on semi-structured, in-depth interviews with ten men between 64 and 90 years old, who are the primary carer for their wives. The main aim of the article is to describe how older men perceived themselves as carers and defined care in their biographies. The author also tried to describe how older men who care for their wives construct their masculinity in the face of their new roles and tasks. Analysis allowed the main motive of providing care to emerge: obligation. What is more, institutional care was treated by older men as a last resort, also in context of masculinity role. The research findings showed that an important factor in the way masculinity is constructed by older men caring for their wives was the definition of care.

    Opieka należy do kategorii wpisujących się w obszar zainteresowań wielu nauk. Centralne jednak miejsce zajmuje w dyscyplinie nauk pedagogicznych, którą określa się mianem pedagogiki opiekuńczej. W jej obszarze podejmuje się m.in. rozważania nad różnymi wymiarami i przejawami opieki, dokonuje się charakterystyki działalności opiekuńczej wraz z elementami ją konstytuującymi oraz przypisywanymi jej kontekstami. Wiele miejsca poświęca się także wizerunkowi opiekuna jako organizatora i realizatora procesu opiekuńczego. Wśród wielu różnych kwestii związanych z opieką nie może zabraknąć także tych, które wiążą się z jej etycznym charakterem. Stąd też celem prowadzonych rozważań uczyniono analizę opieki jako kategorii pedagogicznej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej wymiaru etycznego. Cel ten osiągnięto poprzez ukazanie opieki w dwóch kontekstach: deontologicznym i aretologicznym. Takie potraktowanie opieki (opiekuńczości) pozwala na ujmowanie jej jako z jednej strony powinności moralnej, a z drugiej natomiast cnoty moralnej. Taki punkt widzenia pozwala na rozpatrywanie opieki zarówno w odniesieniu jej do etyki powinności, jak również do etyki cnoty. Przedstawione w artykule treści mogą stanowić punkt wyjścia do szerszego namysłu nad próbą skonstruowania zarysu etyki opieki, a w szczególności działalności opiekuńczej. Ma to swoje znaczenie zarówno dla teorii, jak i praktyki pedagogicznej, a tym samym sprzyjać może jakości usług świadczonych w ramach tej działalności.
    Care is among the categories that are of interest of many sciences. However, a discipline of pedagogical science that approaches it as the main issue is caring pedagogy. This discipline of pedagogy contemplates different dimensions and manifestations of care, and describes caring activity, including its constituent elements and contexts ascribed to it. Moreover, a lot of attention is devoted to the image of a carer as the organiser and executor of the caring process. The great number of various care-related issues also include those that imply the ethical nature of care. Hence, this discussion is aimed at analysing care as a pedagogical category with particular emphasis on its ethical dimension. This was achieved through presenting care in two contexts, i.e., deontological and aretological ones. Approaching care (caregiving) in this way allows its depiction, on the one hand, as a moral duty, and, on the other hand, as a moral virtue. This standpoint makes it possible to view the issue of care both with reference to the ethics of duty and the ethics of virtue. The content presented in the article may constitute the starting point for a wider reflection on the attempt made at creating the outline of the ethics of care and, in particular, caring activity. This is of importance both for pedagogical theory and practice, and, thereby, may promote the quality of services provided as part of this activity.
