    Opis:
    The ban on the use of meat and bone meals in animal nutrition significantly worsened the protein deficit in animal feeding. Soybean meal, obtained mainly from genetically modified soybeans, turned out to be an excellent solution. However, in accordance with Polish regulations on animal nutrition, the ban on the use of genetically modified feeds will apply from January 1, 2021. The article discusses domestic protein sources that can be an alternative protein source in feed.

    Opis:
    This article aims at the presentation of new approach to the growing need for establishing strategies of feeding farm animals in coming decades. According to FAO forecasts, in 2050 the global population will reach 9 billion people. Already now, the food production is under enormous pressure and struggling with many problems. It is therefore, an urgent need to develop and introduce sustainable production of high-quality protein foods. Poland is a country where there is a limited range of high-protein feed sources, which constitute valuable components for the feed and food production. In the future, insects may become the only effective solution for feeding a constantly growing population. Protein of insect origin, can already be used to produce fish feed in the EU. Current research will be the basis for decisions about the safe introduction of insect protein into the feeding system of farm animals. An example of such research can be GOSPOSTRATEG, the project financed by the National Center for Research and Development, entitled “Developing a strategy for using alternative sources of insect protein in animal nutrition to spread its production on the territory of the Republic of Poland”. This project is implemented by a consortium consisting of: the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the National Veterinary Institute-National Research Institute in Puławy.

    Opis:
    Due to the lack of history of insects production for food and feed purposes in Europe, food and feed safety issues, food and feed law requirements, are a new challenge for policy, producers and consumers. Producers of insects for feed and food must ensure compliance with the standards established for other types of production by introducing, documenting, implementing and maintaining continuous food and feed safety management procedures. Before placing the product on the market, it must be preceded by a risk assessment aimed at identifying and controlling hazards that could adversely affect the safety of insect products in the production chain. The requirements of EU law apply to all insect producers who rearing, processing, handling, or distributing insects in the food and feed chain. In this article major issues of these aspects were presented.
