    The aim of this study was to determine the influence of social media on students’ awareness of responsible behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic. The field study was carried out with a sample of 726 students from Northern Border University. Data were collected from electronically retrieved questionnaires via various communication channels and analysed using hierarchical linear regression. The study found a relationship between the use of social media sites and awareness among students, affected by age differences. With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, universities face the challenge of ensuring precautionary guidelines to prevent the virus are followed while educating their students, and social media plays a significant role in disseminating this information. Therefore, studying how social media helps develop students’ awareness can contribute to addressing some of the problems faced by decisionmakers in Saudi universities.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza metodologicznych i etycznych uwarunkowań prowadzenia badań w trudnym terenie. Zaakcentowany został problem rozumienia badanych przez badacza, zwłaszcza w przypadku prowadzenia badań w odmiennym kulturowo kraju, gdzie nie do końca może on liczyć na sięganie do własnych zasobów mentalnych, w tym dotychczasowych doświadczeń. W artykule został podjęty także wątek budowania relacji z badanymi oraz problem etyki, który często stoi w sprzeczności wobec efektywności pozyskiwania danych.
    The aim of the paper is discussion over methodological and ethical conditions of research carried out in hostile environment. The problem of high importance is understanding people in culturally different country where researcher faces huge problems in using his/her mental capacities including past experiences. There is also discussed problem of relations created with interviewees and ethics that in many situations is contradictory toward effectiveness in data collection.

    Sporządzanie zapisków terenowych pozostaje integralną częścią obserwacji uczestniczącej, która polega na tym, że badacz uzyskuje wgląd w konkretne sytuacje społeczne i zjawiska kulturowe. Procedura notowania z pozoru wydaje się prosta, jednak w istocie jest to złożony proces, uwarunkowany przez rozmaite okoliczności oraz mający swe korelaty cielesne i materialne. Dlatego warto zdawać sobie sprawę nie tylko z tego, co badacz zapisuje, ale także, że w ogóle zapisuje oraz – nade wszystko – jak to robi. Kwestie te należy zaś analizować w sposób zindywidualizowany i zlokalizowany, zorientowany na działania konkretnego badacza w konkretnym terenie. W artykule podejmuję refleksję nad praktycznymi aspektami tworzenia notatek terenowych na przykładzie własnych badań nad autyzmem.
    Writing field notes is a vital part of participant observation necessary to gain insight into specific social situations and cultural phenomena. The procedure of data recording seems deceptively straightforward, but is indeed a complex process conditioned by various circumstances, which have their own specific materiality and corporeality. Therefore, it is worth perceiving not only what a researcher writes, but also that he/she writes, and above all – how he/she writes. This in turn should be analysed as individual and localised practice, associated with a particular researcher and a particular field. In the paper I pay attention to the practical aspects of note-taking on an example of my own research on autism.

    The article deals with the diverse images of Polishchuk in Polish writing in the interwar period. The author analyses selected texts of literary prose (A. F. Ossendowski), journalistic (J. Nowakowski) and ethnographical works (J. Obrębski). As we may see, Ossendowski in his popular novel In Polish jungle (1935) offered the mythical portrait of Polishchuk. The legend of so-called “forest people” was also very popular in Polish fictional literature (J. Weyssenhoff, M. Rodziewiczówna). Readers favored the artistic image of an inhabitant of Polesia. There were some polemics arguments about the literary image of Polishchuk in the Polish newspapers (for example J. Nowakowski’s article The letter from Polesia published in the periodical “Marchołt” in 1936). The more actual observations of Polesia and its culture were presented by B. Malinowski’s pupil – J. Obrębski in his ethnographical study (1934 1936). His field exploration provided more legitimate facts and image of living conditions and customs of Polishchuks and therefore did not affirm provide the myth of them.

    Celem artykułu jest ustalenie stanu znajomości i rozumienia zwyczajów, obrzędów oraz wierzeń czasu narodzin związanych z matką i dzieckiem oraz odpowiedź na pytanie, czy nadal są one upowszechniane i kultywowane we wsi Białobrzegi w województwie lubelskim. Po wstępnych rozważaniach terminologicznych, przywołujących definicje badanych problemów, przedstawiono zwyczaje, obrzędy i wierzenia związane z kobietą w ciąży, następnie omówiono zakazy i nakazy obowiązujące kobietę brzemienną. Kolejno zaprezentowano prognozy i wróżby dotyczące płci mającego narodzić się dziecka. W przeprowadzonych badaniach (czerwiec–wrzesień 2013 r.) wykorzystano głównie metodę pogłębionych badań terenowych Bronisława Malinowskiego, metodę biograficzną oraz analityczno-krytyczną źródeł, a także elementy metody porównawczej. Podstawę badań terenowych stanowiły wywiady wśród mieszkańców wsi Białobrzegi powyżej 65 roku życia oraz obserwacja uczestnicząca.
    Customs, Rituals and Beliefs Associated with a Pregnant Woman and Forecasts and Predictions about Having Sex Born Child: The Study of a Village Bialobrzegi in the Province of Lublin The aim of the article is to determine the state of knowledge and understanding customs, rituals and beliefs connected with the time of birth and to answer the question whether they are still observed and popularized in the village of Bialobrzegi in the province of Lublin. After giving first some consideration to the terminology of the subject, there were presented the customs, rituals and beliefs in connection with a woman expecting a baby, prohibitions and obligations of the pregnant women and magical practices enhancing fertility as well as predictions and indicators of the gender of an unborn baby. In the conducted research (June–September 2013) the mainly applied method was the deepened study of an area by Bronisław Malinowski, the biographical method, as well as elements of the comparative method. The basis of the study of an area were interviews carried out among all the inhabitants of the village Bialobrzegi, choosing people over 65 years old, and observations made during the study.

    Na przełomie lat 1980-1981, podczas wiercenia otworu poszukiwawczego "Daszewo-1" wystąpiła otwarta erupcja węglowodorów. Intensywny wypływ ropy naftowej na powierzchnię wraz z towarzyszącym jej gazem ziemnym trwał 33 dni i w tym czasie przedostało się do środowiska od kilkunastu do kilkudziesięciu tysięcy ton ropy naftowej. W wyniku zaistniałej erupcji stwierdzono zanieczyszczenie gleb ropą naftową wokół otworu "Daszewo-1" na obszarze 27 ha. Dla ukazania aktualnego stanu środowiska gruntowo-wodnego, po upływie około 30 lat od zaistniałej awarii pobrano do badań laboratoryjnych próbki gleb, gruntów i wód podziemnych w celu oznaczenia w nich koncentracji węglowodorów. Otrzymane wyniki porównano z aktualnie obowiązującymi standardami jakości gleb i gruntów oraz wód podziemnych dla terenów upraw rolniczych i nie stwierdzono przekroczeń dopuszczalnych koncentracji węglowodorów.
    At the turn of 1980-1981, when exploration well "Daszewo-1" was drilled, an intense eruption of oil and natural gas occurred. It lasted 33 days and during that time dozen to tens thousands tones of oil were released to the environment. The soils around well "Daszewo-1" were polluted in the area of 27 ha. After 30 years the soil, ground and groundwater samples were taken for laboratory analyses, during which hydrocarbon concentrations were established. The obtained results were compared with the present qualitative standards of soil, ground and groundwater in the agricultural areas. They do not reveal any higher values than the standards for admissible hydrocarbon concentrations.
