    This article shows the author’s development path. In the first part of the text: Significant inspirations. From early childhood to doctoral thesis, the author discusses the impact of the most significant people from his family background and intellectuals on the current level of his general theoretical knowledge and practice in aesthetic education, including the multiple experiences of working in agricultural schools as well as the ministerial pedagogical supervision. In the second part: Pedagogy of culture as an inspiration for educational theories and practice, the author shows the stages from 1995 to the revived pedagogy of culture, signalling its multiple effects, also in the field of aesthetic education.

    My paper deals with the significance of introducing the cultural component in foreign language teaching as well as the necessity of developing young people’s sensitivity to culture, especially to art and literature. In the article, the basic definitions and relevant terms connected with culture are discussed, according to the current status of glottodidactic knowledge. The question of how and to what extent should the cultural component be introduced in the school is also raised. Moreover, the aims of teaching cultural elements as well as their role and importance in foreign language learning are presented. In the final part of the text I describe an example of a practical pedagogical application of the cultural component, which can be used during English classes. This crosscultural studies project consists of three lessons, focused on a chosen aspect of British culture, namely the creation of two representatives of the 18thcentury art and literature. The presentation of this project supports the thesis that the combination of teaching language together with cultural elements is possible. It also serves as an example of how to achieve this aim and, simultaneously, how to make lessons both educational and untypical, which means more entertaining for the students. All in all, the aim of the article is to emphasise the need for aesthetic education as well as to raise teachers’ and educators’ awareness of the aforementioned problem.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniom uczuć i emocji zawartym w bogatej spuściźnie naukowej Stefana Szumana, opisanym w świetle jego dorobku pedagogicznego i psychologicznego. Przedstawiono w nim biografię uczonego, a następnie scharakteryzowano jego dorobek naukowy z zakresu psychologii i pedagogiki. Ponieważ Szuman w sposób szczególny interesował się twórczością artystyczną dzieci, omówiono jego poglądy w tej dziedzinie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem znaczenia uczuć i emocji, które towarzyszą tworzeniu i odbiorowi dzieł sztuki przez dzieci i młodzież. Następnie dokonano charakterystyki cech osobowych nauczycieli według Szumana, którego zdaniem nauczyciele w swojej pracy zawodowej powinni się zajmować dobrym wychowaniem estetycznym uczniów w szkołach. Zaprezentowano także poglądy polskiego psychologa na rolę sztuki w życiu dorosłego człowieka. W artykule zaakcentowano te elementy poglądów Szumana, w których wypowiadał się o udziale uczuć w procesie powstawania i odbioru dzieł sztuki.
    The article is devoted to the issues of feelings and emotions and contained in the rich scientific heritage of Stefan Szuman, described in the context of his pedagogical and psychological achievements. It presents the scholar’s biography, and then characterizes his scientific achievements in the field of psychology and pedagogy. Due to Szuman’s particular interest in children’s artistic creation, his views in this field were discussed, with particular emphasis on the importance of feelings and emotions that accompany children and young people in creating and receiving works of art. Then, the characteristics of teachers’ personal traits according to Szuman were also made. In his opinion, teachers’ professional work should focus on good aesthetic education of students in schools. The views of the Polish psychologist on the role of art in adult life were also presented. The article indicates those elements of Szuman’s views in which he spoke about the participation of feelings in the process of creating and receiving works of art.

    W artykule rozpatrzono analizowanie architektury jako źródło kompleksowego wychowania uczniów szkoły ogólnokształcącej, w szczególności wychowania estetycznego. Jej wpływ wychowawczy wynika z artystycznych cech architektury, które mają ogromny potencjał do wykorzystania w działaniach szkoleniowych i wychowawczych. Podkreślono ścisłe powiązanie architektury z licznymi materialnymi i duchowymi przejawami kultury ludzkości, a zatem z różnymi dziedzinami wiedzy naukowej i twórczości artystycznej nauczanymi w szkole ogólnokształcącej. Autorka określa zasady wykorzystania badania architektury w wychowaniu estetycznym, na podstawie których można opracowywać skuteczne metody wychowawcze.
    The article analyses architecture as a source of comprehensive education of general secondary school students, in particular aesthetic education. Its educational impact is due to the artistic features of architecture that have great potential for use in training and educational activities. The close connection of architecture with numerous material and spiritual manifestations of human culture, and therefore with various fields of scientific knowledge and artistic creativity taught in general secondary school was emphasized. The author defines the principles of using architecture research in aesthetic education, on the basis of which it is possible to develop effective educational technologies.

    Artykuł ukazuje pedagogiczny wymiar oddziaływania sztuki na człowieka. Inicjowane w kontakcie z dziełami sztuki przeżycia estetyczne odgrywają istotną rolę w kształtowaniu systemu postaw i systemu wartości człowieka. W trakcie przeżycia estetycznego odsłaniają się przed jednostką nie tylko wartości estetyczne, ale także wartości poznawcze i społeczno-moralne. Kontakt ze sztuką ułatwia samopoznanie i wspiera intelektualne rozpoznawanie coraz bardziej złożonej rzeczywistości, buduje porozumienie między ludźmi, pomaga w wewnętrznej pracy nad sobą. Wykorzystywanie przeżyć estetycznych w procesach kształcenia, wychowania i samokszatłtowania może być przeciwwagą dla utylitarnych i pragmatycznych tendencji we współczesnej edukacji, sprzyjać może kształtowaniu dojrzałej osobowości.
    The article presents the pedagogical impact of art on a human being. The aesthetic experience that comes with dealing with pieces of art has a substantial role in creating an axiological human system. In the process of aesthetic experience, not only does an individual discover the aesthetic values, but also cognitive, social and moral ones. Dealing with art facilitates self-discovery and supports intellectual understanding of the complex reality, creates a good rapport between people, helps in working on your inner self. Banausic and pragmatic tendencies may be counterbalanced by using aesthetic experiences in modern education in order to foster the formation of a mature personality.
