Opis:
The article shows the comparison of various types of unmanned aerial vehicles intended for transport and inspection tasks. We have considered multi-rotors, planes, helicopters and hybrid solutions combining features of other types. Each of the vehicles has been analyzed in terms of maximum load, range, exceptional features that distinguish them from others, the complexity of construction and control. The comparison was created based on literature analysis and our own experience from participation in multiple competition with inspection, emergency and transportation tasks. It is worth mentioning that competition task required full or partial autonomous mode. Vehicles which we are working on and which are compared in this paper can be classified between micro and tactical short range unmanned vehicles. Comparison was presented in form of table which present set of features for each type of vehicle, it makes it possible to evaluate their utility for considered tasks. Based on the analysis, our own concept of unmanned air vehicle was presented, it combines advantages of different constructions while trying to eliminate the greatest drawbacks; and we believe it is feasible to be applied in transport and inspection tasks.

Opis:
With the growing intensity of civil usage of the UAV, one of the most important problems is safety. It consists of operational safe use of the UAV in the common air area and reliability of the aerial vehicle construction. Each flying object is subjected to external loads, which influence on it in flight and on the ground. The external loads are mainly caused by aerodynamic, weight and inertia influence, ground reaction force and the power unit [1]. That is why during service, UAV structures are prone to many mechanical and environmental conditions that can damage to composite structures in the form of delamination, fiber breakage, and matrix cracking. Monitoring the level and type of damage to a composite structure is vital to determining the component’s structural integrity and preventing the failure of the structure during flight [2]. Non-destructive testing which has been used so far to identify defects in the aircraft structure made from metallic materials has a quite limited application in the case of composite structures. With the growing use of composites in the aviation industry, a necessity appears to work out a method allowing identification of technological defects and damages appeared in the process of the UAV’s operation. The answer to the appearing demand could be, for instance, the active thermography technique used for the thin wall test of the skin elements of the UAV. The obtained research results bring closer the problem of selection of the quick, well-fitted non-destructive testing method depending on the kind of the diagnosed construction.

Opis:
Unmanned aerial systems are in many countries one of the most dynamically developing branches of technology. They have also been recognized and are being utilized by scientists who find remote sensing indispensable in their work. Today, it is increasingly common to find research teams utilizing so-called drones in field research. Unmanned systems are becoming ever more important for environment monitoring by, on the one hand, providing data from inaccessible or remote areas, and, on the other hand, reducing the human costs required by traditional large field teams while also increasing the efficiency of the work. This paper presents the possibility of utilizing UAVs for image data collection in woodland areas. Flights over Głuchów and an Arboretum were performed using two different UAVs (Mentor, AVI). The flights were made in 2010 in the middle of the growing season. Images were taken with Sigma DP2 digital cameras in four spectral channels: R (red), G (green), B (blue) and IR (infrared). Images were saved in 8-bit. The Głuchów forest complex is located in the Głuchów forest district, which forms a part of the Rogów forest division. From the administrative viewpoint, the forest division is located in the Łódzkie province, Skierniewicki Poviat. The Arboretum is a park with a collection of trees and shrubs from different regions of the world. The area is characterized by a high variability of species and trees of varying heights. It is located in the Łódzkie province, Skierniewicki Poviat.

Opis:
The research described in this article was conducted in the Tatra National Park in Poland, which is considered as one of the most-visited national parks in Europe. The exceptional popularity of this place is responsible for intensification of morphogenetic processes, resulting in the development of numerous forms of erosion. This article presents the outcomes of the research whose purpose was to verify the usability of unmanned aerial vehicles to check the condition of hiking trails and forests in alpine areas. An octocopter equipped with a non-metric camera was used for measurements. The paper sketches the methodology of data acquisition in harsh conditions and demanding locations of hiking trails on steep Tatra slopes. The paper also describes stages that lead to elaboration of basic photogrammetric products relying on SfM (Structure from Motion) technique. Finally, it shows the applicability of the prepared products to the evaluation of erosion along hiking trails, and to the study of plant succession or tree stand condition in the area located next to hiking trails.

Railway infrastructure managers are obliged to check technical condition of infrastructure in order to maintain safe traffic. Usually this is done using conventional methods and tools or directly through the inspections made by the technical staff . Technological development which is currently being experienced indicates the availability of new measurement methods that can be used to monitor the condition of railway infrastructure. However, the introduction of new methods for monitoring the infrastructure is usually a change affecting safety, which requires an assessment of the significance of the change for the maintenance of the required level of railway traffic safety. The authors assessed the significance of the change in the method of infrastructure monitoring and related risk assessment as a result of the use of the contactless method of checking the railway surface as an alternative method to staff inspections. Additional control measures or preventive measures for potential threats have also been indicated.

The purpose of this article is to determine the potential of imaging obtained using an unmannedaerial platform (UAV) to create a digital model of terrain for aggregate heaps (DTMs). In addition, the intermediategoal is to carry out an independent accuracy check of the calculated 3D model, which in the study will be referred to an independent measurement using GNSS technology. The research object was a heap of natural aggregate with irregular shape and height differences up to 11 meters. Three point clouds with different detail parameters were generated from the acquired images. For further analysis, a point cloud with the best ratio of terrain reflection accuracy to the calculated RMSE value was selected. Independent control of 3D model accuracy was based on seven heap control points measured in the field and the same points generated on the 3D model . The deviations of several centimeters between field control points and points from the model may indicate the great potential of UAV technology and the possibility of its use in various engineering tasks.

The presence of unmanned aerial vehicles in the airspace is affected by stimulating the development of aviation but also led to the creation of a new kind of threat. The variety of design and versatility of their applications made unmanned aerial vehicles widely available to all people. The number of flight incidents involving UAV was largely caused by failure to follow the rules of safe operation and the lack of experience of the operator. Due to the effects which may entail collision with an unmanned aircraft, aviation authorities and the users themselves take a series of measures aimed at their elimination.

Opis:
Automating the tasks that require manpower has been considered as an area of active research in science and technology. Challenges in designing such systems include accuracy in the parameters of performance, minimal hardware, cost-efficiency, and security. The efficiency of drones designed for replacing humans is often evaluated using their weight, flying time, and power consumption. Herein, the prototypebased Drone model has been designed and discussed for horticulture applications. In this model, a horticulture drone has been designed for structuring and cutting of plants in street interstates. This methodology focuses on automation engineering that is utilized for cutting the plants in less time and less power, thereby diminishing the contamination that may happen by utilizing fuels. The epic part of this plan includes the less weight drone predesigned using Computer-Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application (CATIA) V5 Software. The throttle for the motors is adjusted at 50% to get the required thrust for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to fly. Experimental results show that the horticulture drone has comparatively more flying time and less power consumption.

Opis:
Drones are considered to be an important part of future 6G telecommunication systems. Thanks to their quick deployment potential, they provide additional connectivity options in the form of a flying hotspot. However, in such use cases, they typically require a wireless backhaul link to facilitate their proper operation, which might be a challenging task in dense urban environments. One of the potential methods that may be relied upon to connect such nodes is the integrated access and backhaul (IAB) approach, where part of the spectrum allocated to users accessing the base station is used for wireless backhauling. Thus, in this work, we consider the problem of establishing a multi-hop wireless backhaul link following the IAB concept, with the aid of drone relay stations (DRSs) and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs). We formulate the problem of coverage improvement with a fixed number of relays, assuming certain throughput requirements for the backhaul link. The simulations show that the use of RISs offers a coverage improvement in such a scenario or a reduction in the number of nodes involved in ensuring the required backhaul performance.

Opis:
The topic of this paper is a concept of a new type of a sensor intended for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Its operation is based on processing images acquired from a thermal camera operating in the long-wave infrared band (LWIR) placed underneath a vehicle’s chassis. The vehicle’s spatial displacement is determined by analyzing movement of characteristic thermal radiation points (ground, forest, buildings, etc.) in pictures acquired by the thermal camera. Magnitude and direction of displacement is obtained by processing stream of consecutive pictures with optical-flow based algorithm in real time. Radiation distribution analysis allows to calculate camera’s self-translation vector. Advantages of measuring translation based on thermal image analysis is lack of drift effect, resistance to magnetic field variations, low susceptibility to electromagnetic interference and change in weather conditions as compared to traditional inertial navigation sensors. As opposed to visible light situational awareness sensors, it offers operation in complete darkness (harsh weather nights and indoors).

The flying wing configuration has been considered by airplane designers for more than one hundred years. Tailless aircraft have been inspired by nature and its solutions. In present times, this configuration is used to design Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). This type of plane could serve personal, military and research purposes. The flying wing is characterized by large amount of payload space, smaller wetted area than conventional airplane and stealth capability. This makes, that it is widely applicable in rescue operations, geodetic and cartographic research, monitoring of natural resources, taking pictures or videos. Despite all the merits of tailless plane, it also has its downsides. The main problem of this type of aircraft is longitudinal stability. A conventional airplane can compensate the pitch moment of the wing with its horizontal tail but a flying wing is tailless. A slow decay of oscillations amplitude is the problem, which can be solved by active control or proper aerodynamic design. A combination of geometric characteristic such as sweep, taper, twist and location of vertical stabilizers along span, can lead to stable flying wing. In this article, the results of phugoid oscillations analysis of unmanned flying wing are presented. Research platform was X8-2, popular flying wing UAV, designed for First Person View (FPV) method to control the vehicle. The calculations were performed using 3D panel method. On the basis of calculations for three versions of the model aircraft, the dynamic characteristics were created. The analysis of longitudinal stability undertaken here has indicated propriety of applied changes in geometry.
