Opis:
Purpose: The latest studies in the literature on the subject discuss the topic of future competences in the industry sector. The purpose of this article is to indicate the key competences for the implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions. The presented results are part of wider research (Michna, Kmieciak, Kruszewska, 2021). Design/methodology/approach: The research methods consist of a comprehensive literature review of the subject under study and the results of empirical research conducted in 2021 based on an anonymous online survey completed by employees from different levels of organization, operating in diverse industries and located in multiple locations. Findings: Study presents competences with the highest importance for survey participants - problem solving, process understanding, efficiency in working with data; and with the lowest importance - leadership skills and coding skills. Research limitations/implications: Competences were grouped according to literature study results, chosen group was not always natural for specific competence, which could lead to difficulties in research. The study group was anonymous, it consisted of random employees from multiple organizations, not selected in advance. Practical implications: The study’s results provide knowledge about general perception of competences in Industry 4.0 with a division of specific groups: technical, social, economic, political and environmental. Originality/value: The study can help HR practitioners and Industry 4.0 specialists in analyzing human resources competences and planning the development of possible competence gaps.

The main subject for consideration concentrates on the social innovation defined as a tool to support the change related to Industry 4.0. It seems obvious that the Fourth Industrial Revolution transforms social life, the Internet of things (IoT), cloud data, big data, autonomous robots, additive manufacturing, augmented reality, etc., which are listed as basic elements of Industry 4.0. It also transforms the economic sphere, especially work organisation and the labour market. Current prognoses of the possible economic and social impact of digital technology often highlight positive aspects, but we also need to predict and study possible negative consequences. In order to design a 'more satisfactory' social environment that takes into account the needs of the present, we need new ways of social functioning. It is assumed that social innovations can be treated as instruments useful for overcoming challenges posed by Industry 4.0. The analysis will be theoretical, hence such notions as social innovations, Industry 4.0 and others will be defined. This discussion will help to understand and solve future social problems.

Współcześnie innowacje stanowią jeden z podstawowych czynników sprzyjających budowaniu przewagi konkurencyjnej przedsiębiorstwa. Nigdy jeszcze w historii ludzkości poziom jej innowacyjności nie był tak wysoki. Dotyczy to nie tylko instytucji badawczo-rozwojowych, różnego rodzaju organizacji, w tym przedsiębiorstw, ale nawet administracji publicznej. Jedną z nowych koncepcji zarządzania, wykorzystującą najnowsze zdobycze techniki i technologii, z których wiele stanowi innowacje na skalę światową, jest przemysł 4.0 (ang. Industry 4.0). Jest to koncepcja zarządzania ery cyfrowej, zasadniczo różna od innych, na temat której pisze się w ostatnim okresie bardzo dużo i z którą w nauce i praktyce zarządzania wiąże się wiele nadziei. Wielu badaczy uważa, iż jest to model funkcjonowania przedsiębiorstwa przyszłości, od którego nie ma już odwrotu, gdyż zapewnia przedsiębiorstwu możliwości i poziom konkurencyjności, jakiego jeszcze do tej pory nie było [7]1. Skoro jednak poziom innowacyjności w aktualnych organizacjach jest najwyższy z dotychczas osiągniętych, to czy w przyszłości da się go jeszcze podwyższyć? Czy technologie uwzględniane w ramach koncepcji przemysłu 4.0 będą pomocne i w jaki sposób w tym procesie? Odpowiedź na te pytania jest celem, który autor chce osiągnąć w ramach niniejszego artykułu. Dociekania naukowe prowadzone były z wykorzystaniem takich metod badawczych, jak: analiza i synteza literatury przedmiotu (polskiej i zagranicznej), ankietowanie i wywiady oraz wnioskowanie logiczne. Nieoceniona okazała się również dyskusja, jaka wywiązała się po wystąpieniu autora na temat innowacyjności w warunkach gospodarki cyfrowej, które miało miejsce podczas sympozjum naukowego na Politechnice Wrocławskiej w 2019 roku. W opinii autora metody te stanowią wystarczające instrumentarium badawcze, aby udzielić wstępnej (ex ante) odpowiedzi na sformułowany problem badawczy.
The chapter presents reflections on the potential of supporting the processes of creating innovation in economic organizations by individual technologies included in the Industry 4.0 concept. To this end, basic information on this concept and innovation creation processes in organizations was presented. Answers to research questions were based on literature studies and empirical studies.

Purpose: The article aims to identify areas of knowledge, key skills, and competencies of engineers and managers necessary in the Industry 5.0 environment. Design/methodology/approach: The achievements and results presented in the article were obtained based on literature research and expert research conducted among 25 professionals with experience in management, innovation, and technology of Industry 4.0. The research technique was a standardized interview. Findings: Based on the research results obtained, the essential knowledge areas and competencies of engineers and managers of industrial enterprises oriented to the implementation of the Industry 5.0 concept were identified. Research limitations/implications: The analysis of experts' opinions is only a signaling of the problem of the need for changes in the development of knowledge and competencies of industry employees functioning in the Industry 5.0 environment. The research should be extended to other areas of the economy, e.g., services, education, quality of life, and Society 5.0. Originality/value: Original achievements obtained during the research include getting valuable research results in the areas of knowledge, required key skills, and competencies required of future industry employees. The research results were obtained directly from experts who, through their daily experience, meet the knowledge and competence deficits of modern companies. In addition, experts have the necessary knowledge of new technologies and requirements posed by the Industry 5.0 environment.

Purpose: The aim of the article is to identify the key components of the business model of an enterprise operating in the Industry 5.0 environment Design/methodology/approach: The achievements and results presented in the article were obtained on the basis of literature research and expert research conducted among 25 professionals with experience in strategic management, Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 technologies. The research technique was the Delphi method. The key components of the business model were presented in the form of Business Model Canvas. Findings: Based on the research results obtained, components shaping the business model of a company operating in the Industry 5.0 environment were identified. Research limitations/implications: The analysis of experts' opinions is a preliminary stage of identifying key components of the business model of a company operating in the Industry 5.0 environment. The research should be extended to the analysis of case studies of companies implementing Industry 4.0 technologies. Originality/value: The original achievements obtained during the research include obtaining valuable research results in the field of key components of the business model affecting the formation of its architecture, competitive advantage and value creation and monetization. The research results were obtained directly from experts who have the necessary knowledge of strategic management, Industry 4.0 technologies and Industry 5.0 pillars.

Artykuł przedstawia zmiany dotyczące koncepcji wartościowania techniki jako jednego z narzędzi kontrolowania skutków jej upowszechniania. Zmiany te wiązały się z przemianami samej techniki i ze środowiskowymi, społecznymi (kulturowymi) skutkami jakie one wywoływały. Były także związane ze sposobami upowszechniania techniki i w konsekwencji tłem były tu również zmiany w sposobie pojmowania techniki w relacji do człowieka, społeczeństwa, kultury i natury. Najnowszym wyzwaniem jest perspektywa przemysłu 4.0 i związane z nim kształtowanie się społeczeństwa cyfrowego.
The article presents some changes concerning with the technology assessment understood as one of tools of the controlling of impacts of the technology dissemination. Those changes were connected with the changes of technology and with its environmental, societal (cultural) impacts. They were also connected with the ways of dissemination of technology as well as with the changes of its understanding in the relations with the man, society, culture and nature. The latest challenge is connected with the perspective of industry 4.0 and with the development of digital society.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to discuss the impact COVID-19 pandemic on implementation 4.0 technologies in enterprises and supply chains. Design/methodology/approach: The study performs review of literature to identify key aspects of Industry 4.0, the COVID-19 pandemic in the economy. Findings: The paper explained the changes in the functioning of enterprises and supply chains and their transformation towards Industry 4.0. The authors defined the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the context of applying technology trends of the Industry 4.0 by enterprises and supply chains. We claim that in the enterprises and supply chains will be the need to invest in new technologies for the long term and implement new infrastructures. The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to help us push the accelerator pedal on Industry 4.0 in the industries, especially manufacturing industry. Originality/value: The study is one of the analysis of the relationships between enterprises and supply chains in the framework of Industry 4.0 and the aspects the COVID-19 pandemic in creating value chain. The study can be addressed to project managers and supply chains managers responded for implementation technologies of Industry 4.0.

Celem artykułu jest podkreślenie kluczowej roli danych jako łącznika oraz logistyki jako wspólnego elementu między branżą e-commerce a Przemysłem 4.0.
An increasing number of exploiters (users and maintainers) of technical means requires taking action aimed at providing such people with appropriate living space, including in the workplace, which will be adapted to their needs and in which these means will fulfill their tasks in accordance with their intended use. The aim, as a result of which these activities are undertaken, should be to ensure appropriate conditions for functioning in the space in question. Therefore, it is necessary to develop methods and techniques for assessing the quality of life that will enable the collection, processing and analysis of spatial data. This need prompted the author to review in the literature model solutions in the discussed area, taking into account the aspect of space, and to propose a concept of using the above-mentioned methods in improving the quality of life of the older people.

W niniejszym artykule zaprezentowano, na przykładzie Przemysłu 4.0, podejścia badawcze pozwalające zidentyfikować zdarzenia bezprecedensowe w ujęciu dzikich kart, które umożliwiają zminimalizować efekt niepewności. Przemysł 4.0 jest to nowatorska, dziś jeszcze niepewna, wizja złożonego systemu w skali i wymiarach, do tej pory niestosowanych. Wszystkie podmioty biorące udział w budowie Przemysłu 4.0 powinny mieć świadomość możliwości zaistnienia wydarzeń bezprecedensowych, nawet jeśli prawdopodobieństwo ich wystąpienia jest niskie.
This article presents research attitude to identify unprecedented events as wild card in order to minimiz uncertainty in the sphere of Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 is an innovative, still uncertain today, a vision of a complex system in scale and dimensions, so far not used. All actors involved in the construction of Industry 4.0 should be aware of the possibility of unprecedented events, even if the probability of their occurrence is low.

Purpose: The fourth industrial revolution has a strong influence on changes in enterprises towards smart manufacturing. Technological progress and digital economies created new conditions for business. Currently producers aiming at digitalization of processes and smart manufacturing based on key technologies (pillars) of Industry 4.0. In transformation process, the question arises, from what to start the changes and which path to choose to smart manufacturing (SM). Apart from big projects of SM, changes need the concept of Kaizen based on small steps of changes on workstations towards smart production. The purpose of the paper is the presentation of links between Smart Manufacturing (SM) projects and Kaizen. Design/methodology/approach: The paper was realized based on literature review and examples of SM projects. Findings: The study found that Kaizen is evolving with the automation and digitisation of production. IC technologies facilitate Kaizen improvements. The automation of production processes provides insight into historical data through process monitoring. Fully autonomous equipment is equipped with systems for transferring data to a central decision-making system. The machine operator's job is to collaborate with robots and control machine operation in real time using simple data visualisation and warning systems. Research limitations/implications: The work prepared is of a high degree of generality. Kaizen is implemented at workplaces and is concerned with practical improvements. These improvements are many, following the principle of small steps. The publication focuses on presenting the idea of Kaizen in SM projects. Practical implications: The paper can have an impact on the practical application of Kaizen in SM projects as it presents examples of Kaizen improvements. Originality/value The topic of adapting Kaizen to SM projects is a new area of research that will be strongly built upon due to the utility of Smart Kaizen.

Rozwój koncepcji Przemysł 4.0, podyktowany potrzebą odwrócenia trendu spadku produkcji przemysłowej europejskich przedsiębiorstw, zmusza współczesne przedsiębiorstwa, szczególnie sektora MŚP, do szybkiego i elastycznego dostosowania się do zmieniających się warunków popytowych oraz redukcji kosztów wytwarzania oraz poszukiwania nowych rozwiązań biznesowych. W ramach proponowanej koncepcji Przemysł 4.0 następuje ścisłe połączenie obiektów fizycznych z siecią informacyjną. Powstają wyrafinowane sieci przedsiębiorstw, połączonych inteligentnymi zasobami, komunikującymi się za pośrednictwem Internetu. Funkcjonowanie małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw w sieciach produkcyjnych daje dziś wiele dodatkowych możliwości rozwoju, choć jednocześnie rodzi pewne obawy i wymaga rozwiązania wielu problemów. Celem artykułu jest analiza warunków rozwoju sieci produkcyjnych polskich małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw zdolnych do funkcjonowania w ramach koncepcji Przemysł 4.0 oraz zaproponowano model ich integracji.
Development of the concept Industry 4.0, dictated by the need to reverse the trend of decline in industrial production of European enterprises, forces modern enterprises, especially the SME sector, to adapt quickly and flexibly to changing demand conditions and to reduce production costs and search for new business solutions. As part of the proposed Industry 4.0 concept, there is a close connection between physical objects and the information network. Sophisticated enterprise networks are created, connected by intelligent resources, communicating over the Internet. The functioning of small and medium-sized enterprises in production networks today gives many additional development opportunities, although at the same time it raises some concerns and requires solving many problems. The main goal of the article is to analyze the conditions for the development of production networks of Polish small and medium enterprises able to function as a part of the Industry 4.0 concept and a model for their integration has been proposed.

Przeanalizowano także wymierne efekty Przemysłu 4.0, takie jak poprawa wydajności produkcji, skrócenie czasu przestoju maszyn, redukcja kosztów utrzymania ruchu, zwiększenie bezpieczeństwa pracowników oraz optymalizacja procesów logistycznych. Wszystkie te elementy wskazują na to, jak wiele korzyści przynosi Przemysł 4.0 dla przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych. Jest to jednak proces wymagający dużego nakładu pracy i inwestycji w nowe technologie, a także odpowiedniego przeszkolenia pracowników, którzy będą obsługiwać te nowoczesne urządzenia.
The article discusses many aspects of Industry 4.0. In the introduction, the definition of Industry 4.0 was quoted, followed by topics related to maintenance engineering and machine operation, machine diagnosis using AI, the use of AI to maintain industrial plant operation, sensor systems, cloud measurement data processing, redistribution of critical information and system integration. The measurable effects of Industry 4.0 were also analyzed, such as improving production efficiency, reducing machine downtime, reducing maintenance costs, increasing employee safety and optimizing logistics processes. All these elements show how many benefits Industry 4.0 brings to industrial enterprises. However, this is a process that requires a lot of work and investment in new technologies, as well as appropriate training of employees who will operate these modern devices.

This paper discusses the research problem concerned with identifying the source of the economic efficiency of enterprises operating in the conditions of Industry 4.0. The purpose of this study was to describe scalability 4.0 using the example of Amazon, a global company. In the authors’ opinion, it can serve as an example of an organisation which consciously implements a strategy of building value relying on various forms of economies of scale based on contemporary Industry 4.0 technologies. In particular, the authors of this paper point to the capacity to achieve economies of scale, the network effect, the long tail effect, and the Big Data effect by Amazon as a whole and by individual Amazon Group entities.
W artykule omówiono problem badawczy związany z identyfikacją źródła efektywności ekonomicznej przedsiębiorstw działających w warunkach Przemysłu 4.0. Celem tego badania było opisanie skalowalności 4.0 na przykładzie globalnej firmy Amazon. Zdaniem autorów może ona służyć jako przykład organizacji, która świadomie realizuje strategię budowania wartości na podstawie różnych form ekonomii skali, opierając się na współczesnych technologiach Przemysłu 4.0. Autorzy artykułu wskazują przede wszystkim na możliwość osiągnięcia korzyści skali, efektu sieci, efektu długiego ogona oraz efektu Big Data zarówno przez Amazon jako całość, jak i przez poszczególne podmioty Grupy Amazon.

Background: Over the last few years, the Industry 4.0 concept has attracted attention among both academics and practitioners. Industry 4.0 is a very broad domain including production processes, efficiency, data management, relationship with consumers, competitiveness, and much more. Therefore, the aim of the paper was to analyze the main contributions published on the topic of Industry 4.0. Methods: The literature review method was used to verify current knowledge on the Industry 4.0 topic, with the use of developed methods for literature review research dedicated to it. Results: On the basis of the literature review procedure, answers to the research questions were obtained: RQ1: Is the "Industry 4.0" topic still relevant for researchers? RQ2: Does the national policy on Industry 4.0 influence the research interest in Industry 4.0? RQ3: What are the key components of Industry 4.0? RQ4: What are the implications of Industry 4.0 for other research topics? Conclusions: This paper contributes theoretically to the development of the literature on Industry 4.0. Results obtained from the research not only summarise the current research activities but also indicate existing potential research directions. The findings of this review can be used as the basis for future research on Industry 4.0 and related topics, as well as a guideline for making a literature review.
Wstęp: W ciągu ostatnich lat, koncepcja Przemysłu 4.0 przyciąga uwagę zarówno przedstawicieli nauki jak i przemysłu. Przemysł 4.0 dotyczy procesów produkcji, wydajności, zarządzania danymi czy relacjami z klientami, kwestiami związanymi z konkurencyjnością oraz wiele innych zagadnień. Metody: W pracy wykorzystano metodę analizy literatury celem weryfikacji aktualnego stanu wiedzy w zakresie koncepcji Przemysłu 4.0. W tym celu wykorzystano dedykowaną procedurę przeprowadzania badań literatury. Wyniki: Na podstawie opracowanej procedury przeprowadzania studiów literatury, uzyskano odpowiedzi na wskazane pytania badawcze tj.: PB1:Czy pojęcie Przemysł 4.0 jest wciąż istotne dla badaczy? PB2: Czy programy prowadzone na szczeblu krajowym wpływają na zainteresowanie badaczy w zakresie Przemysłu 4.0? PB3: Jakie są kluczowe komponenty Przemysłu 4.0? PB4: Jakie Przemysł 4.0 wywołuje implikacje na inne tematy badawcze? Wnioski: Zaprezentowany artykuł wnosi wkład w rozwój literatury nad koncepcją Przemysłu 4.0. Wyniki uzyskane z przeprowadzonej analizy literatury nie tylko stanowią podsumowanie dotychczasowej wiedzy na temat koncepcji Przemysłu 4.0, lecz również wskazują kierunki potencjalnych badań. Rezultaty z przeprowadzonych studiów literatury mogą zostać wykorzystane jako wskazówki do przeprowadzenia dalszych badań nad koncepcją Przemysłu 4.0 oraz tematów z nią związanych, jak również służyć mogą jako wytyczne do przeprowadzenia badań literatury w wskazanym obszarze.

Purpose: On the basis of their own research, the authors of the article undertook to determine the factors determining future social and economic development and to develop recommendations for strengthening active economic, social and labour market policies in mining municipalities and districts in Poland – in the perspective of the "European Green Deal" plan and "Just Transition" Design/methodology: the results presented in the article were obtained on the basis of the implementation of questionnaire research, expert interviews, literature review, critical literature analysis, documentation analysis, statistical descriptive analysis. Findings: As a result of the analyses and surveys carried out, the article presents an extensive set of conclusions, the most important of which are those relating to social. The presented attempt of the prospective approach to the phenomena and processes which may result from the transformation of the hard coal mining in Poland is aimed at better understanding of the role which may be fulfilled in the future by the local self-government in the area of which the operating or disused mines and mining enterprises are located. Secondly which are related to the perspective of the hard coal mining transformation process, first of all showed terms the scale of challenges faced by mining municipalities. The indicated processes are nowadays dominated by the challenge of creating new ecological solutions of high quality both in the sphere of their social acceptance in the utilitarian dimension. It is a process that allows for a better understanding of the role of local government in the transformation process, which will probably take up, in a fragmentary way, economic, social and environmental challenges resulting from the contemporary development of economy based on knowledge and determined by the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Originality: the findings and recommendations of the study may become relevant for practitioners and researchers dealing with climate change mitigation, strategy implementation, cross-sectoral partnerships and sustainable development of transformed areas.
