The article shows the fact that the concept of scientific discourse is interpreted as a complex phenomenon that consists of participants in communication, communication situations and the text itself. The conclusion is that discourse is an abstract invariant description of structural and semantic features that are realized in specific texts. Linguists interpret the concept of discourse as a complex communicative phenomenon that includes the speaker and the addressee of the message, the process of proper formation of speech, extralingual factors of communication, social and cultural background. This article presents a critical reading of the text “10 Best places to visit in Ukraine” and its overlook, research study in the field of online tourism promotion, published online in 2021 by one of the world’s largest tourism publishing houses, Touropia. The study aims at revising some of the characteristics of the ongoing tourism discourse through an analysis of the network of people and practices involved in these publications, their textual features and images. The article analyses the way in which various modes to create a virtual brochure with a promotional message from both institutional and commercial positions were combined. In doing this, it studies the organization of the website and its webpage, as well as the lexico-grammatical and visual features of its promotional messages. The analytical framework used includes critical discourse analysis and a corpus-based tool used to interpret different aspects of this tourism discourse. The places advertised as “Top 10” are presented to an all-aged audience that must be interested in discovering new places, appreciated to nature, fond of history and ready to consume national products. Polyparadigmatic nature has led to the active use of these terms in the field of literature, as a result of which scientific studies address issues of artistic concept, artistic discourse, which will always be open to researchers, while not exhausting its relevance.

Researchers underline, that one of the characteristics of poverty, especially nowadays, is its different perception by men and women. This observation is result of changes in research approach to poverty, which focus now on differences between groups, not on poverty en block. As research shows, women are not only more at risk of entering the sphere of poverty, but also carry a heavier burden and larger responsibility for coping with it (living in poverty and exiting poverty). Such a situation is related to social definitions and images of proper/desired social practices that are attributed to women experiencing poverty. In this article, basing mostly on materials and analyses from the project “Discourses of poverty and social exclusion”, I intend to show how the role of women living in poverty is discoursively constructed, what is their image in society, what are the social expectations. I am focusing on the discourse created by the social actors who are responsible for supporting women in coping with poverty (representatives of social welfare centres and NGOs). Social actors opinions are important, because their image of women living in poverty is a base, to create programs and offerts.

Opis:
Some participants of popular culture do not confine themselves to a one-time contact with a favorite book or movie. Instead, they return to fictional worlds, creating literary texts based on original works and sharing these texts with other followers of the same pop-products. A number of these fan-made pieces contain idealized characters whose mentalities tend to be very similar to the personalities of their creators. Such characters, who are known under the name of Mary Sue, frequently become an object of harsh criticism on the readers’ part. The paper presents various forms of so strong a negative reaction and describes its possible causes, basing on the analysis of a discourse created by the users of Mirriel Literary Forum (a message board which attracts people who are interested in amateurs’ literary pieces). The main goal of the paper is to demonstrate how the information obtained in discourse analysis may shed new light on the rules which govern the lives of all kinds of fan communities – most importantly, the rule of staying faithful to the object of one’s passion, that is, to the worlds created by professional authors. Apart from that, the paper demonstrates a concise discussion of the strong and weak points of the method employed.

The article is methodological and focuses on the study preparation process. The analysis addresses the use of different approaches (induction, deduction) and methods of research (quantitative and qualitative content analysis, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis) to study privacy media discourse. The article aims to promote a multidisciplinary approach to research by demonstrating the possibilities of using different research approaches. The text also shows obstacles that may appear in this type of study. To illustrate the discussed subject, two studies referred to media discourse on privacy in selected Polish media and media discourse on Pegasus, which the author and the team conducted.
Artykuł ma charakter metodologiczny i skupia się na rozważaniach na temat procesu przygotowania badań. Analiza dotyczy wykorzystania różnych podejść (indukcja, dedukcja) i metod badawczych (ilościowa i jakościowa analiza treści, analiza dyskursu, krytyczna analiza dyskursu) do badania dyskursu medialnego na temat prywatności. Celem artykułu jest promowanie interdyscyplinarnego podejścia do badań poprzez pokazanie możliwości wykorzystania różnych podejść badawczych. W tekście pokazano też przeszkody, które mogą pojawić się w tego typu badaniach. W celu zobrazowania analizowanej tematyki odwołano się do dwóch badań: dyskursu medialnego na temat prywatności w wybranych polskich mediach oraz dyskursu medialnego na temat Pegasusa, które przeprowadziła autorka wraz z zespołem.

The paper is an in-depth analysis of the constraints and challenges that the researcher of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) faces in practices connected to the research processes. To fully understand where that trouble derives from, we need to examine the notion of discourse and the process of CDA itself. Then the major issues will be exemplified by particular experiences gained in the process of conducting the research project “Women in Intimate Relationships: The Empirical and Critical Study” financed by the Polish National Science Centre (NCN no 2011/01/D/HS6/02470). On one side, the text is an attempt to structure and systematize the knowledge about difficulties caused by the CDA processes, but on the other, it can be read as a kind of “warning notice” that can save very young researchers from making significant mistakes before they start their CDA investigations.

The subject of the text concerns various forms and methods of the participation of selected Ukrainian youth organizations, which were particularly active in 2018. The author discusses the basic theoretical assumptions by analyzing the issue of participation in relation to Polish and foreign literature of the subject. Then, she describes the research material and methods of analysis of the collected empirical data. In the last part of the article, the author presents the most important conclusions regarding the „soft” and „hard” forms and methods of the participation of six youth organizations operating in Ukraine.
Problematyka tekstu dotyczy różnych form i metod partycypacji wybranych ukraińskich organizacji młodzieżowych, które były szczególnie aktywne w 2018 r. Autorka omawia podstawowe założenia teoretyczne analizując zagadnienie partycypacji w odniesieniu do polskiej i zagranicznej literatury przedmiotu. Następnie opisuje materiał badawczy oraz metody analizy zgromadzonych danych empirycznych. W ostatniej części artykułu autorka prezentuje najważniejsze konkluzje dotyczące „miękkich” i „twardych” form oraz metod partycypacji sześciu badanych organizacji młodzieżowych działających na terenie Ukrainy.

In the article, the results are presented of the research on discursive constructions of social problems and their solutions, which are undertaken by selected youth organizations operating in Poland. Six of them were analyzed: AIESEC Poland [in Polish: AIESEC Polska], ATD Fourth World Poland [ATD Czwarty Świat Polska], UNESCO Initiatives Centre [Centrum Inicjatyw UNESCO], Center for Intercultural Initiatives Horizons [Centrum Inicjatyw Międzykulturowych Horyzonty], All-Polish Youth [Młodzież Wszechpolska] and National Radical Camp [Obóz Narodowo-Radykalny]. The article provides answers to the following research questions: 1) What do selected youth organizations consider to be a problem? 2) By what discursive strategies do they formulate problems? 3) What actions are they taking to solve the problems? The analysis of the content and applied discursive strategies covered a total of 696 texts of various genres and volumes (including programs, statutes, newsletters, entries in social media). The results of the analyses allowed for a description and comparison of the researched organizations using the categories of pedagogy and its different types (pedagogy of the current time, ethno-pedagogy, pedagogy of fear, pan-pedagogy and folkpedagogy), revealing similarities and differences in the scope of issues considered by organizations as problematic, including those related to (multi)cultural issues.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące dyskursywnych konstrukcji problemów społecznych i ich rozwiązań, które podejmowane są przez wybrane organizacje młodzieżowe działające w Polsce. Analizą objęto sześć z nich: AIESEC Polska, ATD Czwarty Świat Polska, Centrum Inicjatyw UNESCO, Centrum Inicjatyw Międzykulturowych Horyzonty, Młodzież Wszechpolska i Obóz Narodowo-Radykalny. W artykule odpowiadamy na następujące pytania badawcze: 1) Co wybrane organizacje młodzieżowe uznają za problem? 2) Przy pomocy jakich strategii dyskursywnych formułują one problemy? oraz 3) Jakie działania ukierunkowane na rozwiązanie problemów podejmują? Analizą treści wypowiedzi i zastosowanych strategii dyskursywnych objęto łącznie 696 różnych gatunkowo i objętościowo tekstów (m.in. programy, regulaminy, statuty, newslettery, wpisy w mediach społecznościowych). Wyniki analiz pozwoliły na opis i porównanie badanych organizacji z wykorzystaniem kategorii pedagogii i różnych jej typów (pedagogii aktualnego czasu, etno-pedagogii, pedagogii lęku, pan-pedagogii i folk-pedagogii) i w efekcie – na ukazanie podobieństw i różnic w zakresie spraw uznawanych przez badane organizacje za problematyczne, w tym dotyczących kwestii (wielo)kulturowych.

Opis:
The study aims to identify problems related to school and school education present in cabaret discourse and the way they are presented. The cabaret is an interesting research area and field of analysis of social problems, including issues related to educational policy. The data collection method was source searching. The analytical material consisted of eight sketches of Polish cabarets, selected according to the criteria: time of publication, popularity, and topicality. The data analysis method belongs to a group of approaches called critical discourse analysis. Applications of discursive strategies described by R. Wodak and M. Reisigl were sought. The results show that in the discourse of Polish cabarets, the school is presented as a subordinate contractor of political and legal regulations. It characterises with low social prestige, which is built on the low assessment of school teaching in terms of content, the low prestige of the teaching profession, and the low assessment of the student’s role. In relations between these entities, the discourse of scolding and disciplining appears as the manifestation of power and hierarchy; of infantilisation and sexism.
Celem badań, których wyniki są prezentowane w niniejszym artykule, jest rozpoznanie problemów odnoszących się do szkoły i edukacji szkolnej obecnych w analizowanym dyskursie kabaretowym oraz sposobu ich prezentacji. Ze względu na swoje cechy dystynktywne oraz przynależność do kultury popularnej kabaret stanowi interesujący poznawczo obszar badawczy, pole analiz wielu problemów społecznych, w tym wypadku kwestii związanych z polityką edukacyjną. Metodą zbierania danych było przeszukiwanie źródeł. Materiał analityczny stanowiło osiem skeczów polskich kabaretów dobranych w sposób systematyczny przy zastosowaniu kryteriów: czasu publikacji, popularności i tematyczności. Metoda analizy danych mieści się w grupie podejść określanych jako Krytyczna Analiza Dyskursu. W analizowanym materiale poszukiwano aplikacji strategii dyskursywnych (nazywania, orzekania, argumentacji, perspektywizacji, wzmacniania i tonowania) opisywanych przez Ruth Wodak i Martina Reisigla. Wyniki analiz pokazują, że w dyskursie polskich kabaretów szkoła prezentowana jest jako podporządkowany wykonawca regulacji polityczno-prawnych. Jako instytucja cechuje się niskim prestiżem społecznym, który budowany jest zarówno poprzez niską ocenę edukacji szkolnej pod kątem merytorycznym, jak i niski prestiż zawodu nauczyciela oraz niską ocenę roli ucznia. W relacjach między podmiotami edukacji szkolnej ujawnia się wyraźnie dyskurs strofująco-dyscyplinujący jako jeden z symptomów władzy i hierarchii. Widoczne są także przejawy infantylizacji oraz seksizmu.

The article focuses on the activities of the Eurasian Economic Union. Organization can be interpreted as a further step in the integration process of the Eurasian bloc. The first detailed integration plan was announced in 2011 by the presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in the articles published in the Russian daily “Izviestia”. The presidents’ articles outlined the future alliance, the most important goals and the principles of integration. Leaders mentioned the rule of equality and sovereignty, emphasized that the organization should be non – exclusive. All presidents stipulated that the alliance will not be politicized and spoke only about the economic integration. Finally, one of the strongly stressed postulates was the cooperation with other international organizations. The analysis showed that only part of the postulates presented at that time was accomplished. The implementation of the main goal, multi-level economic integration, remains incomplete.
Статья посвящена деятельности Евразийского Экономического Союза. Организацию можно интерпретировать как следующий шаг в интеграционном процессе евразийского блока. Первый подробный план интеграции был объявлен в 2011 году президентами России, Беларуси и Казахстана в статьях, опубликованных в российской газете «Известия». В статьях президентов были обозначены перспективы будущего альянса, важнейшие цели и принципы интеграции. Лидеры упомянули правило равенства и суверенитета, подчеркнув, что организация должна быть открытой для всех. Все президенты сделали оговорку, что альянс не будет политизирован, и писали только об экономической интеграции. Наконец, одним из особо подчеркнутых постулатов было сотрудничество с другими международными организациями. Анализ показал, что была выполнена лишь часть представленных в то время постулатов. Реализация главной цели, многоуровневой экономической интеграции, остается незавершенной.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki analizy telewizyjnego orędzia prezydenta Francji Emmanuela Macrona z dnia 16 marca 2020 roku. Stanowi ono przyczynek do wskazania na znaczenie we współczesnym dyskursie politycznym odwoływania się do logiki strachu i poczucia zagrożenia. Analiza treści pozwoliła wskazać najważniejsze cechy retoryki strachu, jaka zdominowała prezydenckie przemówienie pełne sensacyjnych metafor i wojennych odniesień, będących doskonałym przykładem moralnej paniki w czasie kryzysu, w którym zwiększa się zapotrzebowanie na informację. Analizą dyskursu objęto leksykalne i składniowe środki językowe, gdzie niezwykle częste metafory wojenne dają możliwość manipulacji opinią społeczną i wdrażania koncepcji uodpowiedzialnienia obywateli.
The article presents the results of the analysis of the speech of President Emmanuel Macron on March 16, 2020 on French TV. It indicates the importance of referring to the logic of fear and the sense of threat in contemporary political discourse. The analysis of the content allowed to identify the most important features of the rhetoric of fear that dominated the presidential speech full of sensational metaphors and war references, which are an excellent example of moral panic in a crisis when the demand for information increases. The discourse analysis covers lexical and syntactic linguistic means, where extremely frequent war metaphors enable the manipulation of social opinion and the implementation of the concept of citizens’ responsibility.

This article covers the basic terms in educational sciences in English and their equivalents in Polish, including definitions, difficulties in the selection of appropriate equivalent and linguistic traps which may influence on how the particular term is interpreted in the context of a text it is contained within and both Polish and American/British educational reality. This study emphasizes the often overlooked role of technology in Polish politics and aims to analyse its interaction with the ideological stances of the parliamentary Left, Right, and Center. Drawing on the critical discourse analysis framework of E. Laclau and Ch. Mouffe, the authors argue for a reevaluation of the concept of ‘technology’ and its implications. They demonstrate how this redefinition significantly impacts the preferred model of state intervention in technology regulation within specific political contexts. To achieve this, the researchers thoroughly examined transcripts from the deliberations of the Committee on Digitization, Innovations, and New Technologies during the 9th term of the Sejm. This text serves as an introductory overview, laying the groundwork for a more extensive exploration of the intricate relationship between technology and politics. The combination of critical discourse analysis and thematic content analysis proves to be a valuable research approach for this endeavour.
Technologia niezaprzeczalnie odgrywa coraz istotniejszą rolę w życiu politycznym. Pomimo tego rzadko kiedy staje się tematem zainteresowania polskich badaczy. Niniejsza praca ma na celu ukazanie relacji pomiędzy technologią a tożsamością i postulatami polskiej parlamentarnej Lewicy, Prawicy i Centrum. Operacjonalizując założenia krytycznej analizy dyskursu E. Laclaua i Ch. Mouffe, autorzy potwierdzają istotność odmiennego sposobu definiowania pojęcia “technologii” oraz pojęć z nim związanych. Jednocześnie wykazują, w jaki sposób przekłada się on na preferowany przez dane środowisko polityczne model działalności państwa w obszarze regulacji technologii. Wykorzystana do tego celu została analiza stenogramów z posiedzeń Komisji Cyfryzacji, Innowacyjności i Nowych Technologii Sejmu IX kadencji. Niniejszy tekst to wstęp do bardziej pogłębionych badań na temat relacji pomiędzy technologią i polityką. Połączenie krytycznej analizy dyskursu z tematyczną analizą treści stanowi także narzędzie badawcze, które z powodzeniem może zostać wykorzystane w tym celu.

Opis:
Intention of this article is to test of defining attempts of the notion of discourse in the context of the interdisciplinary formulation. It appears here not only as the gathering of texts treat the connection of the statement with the definite conditions of her rise. Such approach founds the existence of interaction among the individual kinds of discoursive behaviours and the specific areas of the social life. The author tries to exchange features of discourse as one of the dimensions of the politics. He also shows the possibilities of use of the discoursive perspective in the methodology of political sciences. The analysis political discourse is correct only when it unites the proprieties of discoursive structures with the proprieties of political processes. One of the limitations the methodological mistake relates to the level of the text exclusively. These problems can be tackled on the basis of the complex analysis the title category presented in the paper.
Intencją artykułu jest próba zdefiniowania pojęcia dyskursu w ujęciu interdyscyplinarnym. Kategoria ta potraktowana zostaje nie tylko jako swoisty zbiór wypowiedzi, ale jako wytwór języka osadzony w ściśle określonym kontekście. Podejście takie zakłada istnienie interakcji między indywidualnymi rodzajami zachowań dyskursywnych a określonymi obszarami sfery publicznej. Autor próbuje wymienić cechy dyskursu jako jednego z wymiarów polityki. Pokazuje również możliwości użycia perspektywy dyskursywnej w metodologii badań politologicznych. Analiza dyskursu jest poprawna tylko wówczas, gdy łączy właściwości struktur dyskursywnych z właściwościami procesów politycznych. Ograniczenie się wyłącznie do poziomu tekstu jest poważnym błędem metodologicznym. Dyskursy stanowią bowiem semiotyczny kontekst praktyki politycznej, a tym samym pozostają odrębnym wymiarem systemu politycznego.

In 2018, Armenia’s velvet revolution brought about a peaceful transition when it looked like open conflict would result. The revolution was welcomed by the majority of the Armenian people but its nature and its legacy have been disputed. This has occurred during the period of misinformation and disinformation. This papers uses analytical tools derived from the neo-Gramscian approach to analyse the events of the revolution and its aftermath with a view to understanding its impact and how to rebuild society from the divisions that have beset it beyond ideology.

In recent years, the amount of empirical research on populism has increased dramatically. The purpose of this text is to analyze these strands of existing research on populism which employ qualitative methods. Additionally, the paper discusses their basic categories and research design, and highlights the advantages and drawbacks of each of these approaches. The paper presents the three most influential trends in qualitative research on populism: ideology analysismorphological approach, discourse theory, and historical-discursive analysis.
W ostatnich latach lawinowo rośnie liczba empirycznych badań nad populizmem. Celem niniejszego tekstu jest analiza już istniejących badań nad populizmem korzystających z metod jakościowych, omówienie ich podstawowych kategorii oraz struktury badania, a także wskazanie na zalety oraz problemy każdego z omawianych podejść. Artykuł przedstawia trzy najbardziej wpływowe nurty jakościowych badań nad populizmem: analizę ideologii-podejście morfologiczne, teorię dyskursu oraz analizę historyczno-dyskursywną.
