    The aim of the study was to compare two groups of volunteers who work with people with disabilities: volunteers working in organizations led by social innovators and volunteers who are not affiliated to such organizations. The results show a different picture of both groups in the area of the declared value, objectives and attitudes towards people with disabilities. Volunteers working with social innovators have lower rates of misanthropy, higher individual indicators of social capital, and a higher rate of partnership and innovative attitude. The paper presents guidelines how to work with people with disabilities to maximize their integration into society and create social change.

    In this presentation I try to explain the process of social integration of disabled people. I present the issues of the social and legal situation of the disabled, myths and stereotypes created by society and integration education (the presence of disabled children in normal schools). I prepared it using the available professional literature and generally accepted educational programmes in Polish schools. Moreover, I analised legislative acts concerning the disabled. I also used information from web sites, which are created by various organisations of the disabled. The analysis shows that the number of disabled people depends on the health condition, and living conditions of society and also the efficient work of the health service. Moreover, we must remember that the phenomenon of disability becomes more intensive with aging, as the consequence of the population growing older. Perceiving the status of a disabled person depends on such factors as: value systems in a given society, cultural influences and socioeconomic status of a country. If the marginalisation of certain social groups lasted for a long time, a completely natural reaction in such a situation would be a tendency to strengthen and consolidate one’s identity, and also cultural and social distinction. The prejudices and stereotypes, concerning the disabled functioning in society, account for the main difficulties in their full revalidation and rehabilitation. The idea of integration, which means their full inclusion in social life, requires a change in the attitudes from negative to positive: tolerance, acceptance and cooperation.

    The study is aimed at presenting the educational space of a disabled learner within the category of infrahumanization – social categorizing into “ingroups” and “outgroups”. The presented issues comprise educational space, three functioning forms of education, the phenomenon of infrahumanization and the common group identity. Disabled learners’ functioning within a class is presented in: mainstream school (where the dominating group consists of learners without disabilities), integrated school (where categorization of learners is shaped in the way offering more chances to the disabled), and special school (a segregation-based form). Two dimensions of the discussed phenomenon of infrahumanization are indicated – heterogeneousness, which enhances attitudes of acceptance and understanding within a class group (micro-dimension) and its more serious social consequences (macro-dimension).

    The authors of the contribution deal with evaluation of general motor performance in older school age pupils with a moderate mental disability. The aim of the research was to find out differences in the general motor performance between mentally disabled pupils and non-disabled pupils. The research sample consisted of 100 pupils aged 13 to 15. They included 25 boys and 25 girls with a moderate mental disability and 25 boys and 25 girls without a mental disability. To evaluate the general motor performance, the European test of motor performance Eurofit Special was used, modified for the needs of mentally disabled persons by Jean-Claude de Potter (1996). The research confirmed that the general motor performance of the youth with a moderate mental disability was statistically significantly lower than that of their non-disabled peers.

    The goal of this research was to examine the verbal and non-verbal behaviors of teachers towards mentally disabled students in physical education classes in Special Education Practice Centers (Schools for Mentally Disabled Students) in Turkey. The study was based on qualitative research and data was collected through interview forms prepared by the researchers. The interviews consisted of four semi-structured questions, which were analyzed by using the method of content analysis and qualitative data analysis software. Accordingly, it was observed that teachers used a variety of mimics and gestures as reflections of their body language in order to establish and control class management. The teachers interviewed stated that they consciously used their specific way of posture, walking and sitting in the classroom. They also stated that they frequently changed their positions in the classroom and embraced a variety of distance and touch behaviors towards the mentally disabled students. In conclusion, these teachers have the greatest responsibility to achieve the goals of physical education class for the mentally disabled students. These responsibilities are crucial for the educational advancement of the mentally disabled students. The non-verbal behaviors and expressions of these teachers play a vital role in the mental and behavioral development of the mentally disabled students.

    Human adaptation to the environment plays an important role in their careers and substantially affects its professional development. Adaptation consists of many factors that imply positive or negative conditions of a person’s professional work. The article is a theoretical outline of various possibilities for adapting people in the work environment on the basis of social sciences such as pedagogy, sociology, psychology. The article is a theoretical outline of various possibilities of adapting a man in the work environment on the basis of social sciences such as pedagogy, sociology, psychology. The development of the topic is the analysis of the usefulness of selected theories of professional adaptation for special pedagogy in the functioning of people with disabilities. Complementing this analysis is pointing to various barriers to adaptation to the working environment of the disabled. Conclusions include, among others, strengthening of professional activation and social activation of people with disabilities.
    Adaptacja człowieka do środowiska pracy odgrywa ważną rolę w procesie trwania kariery zawodowej i w zasadniczy sposób wpływa na jego rozwój zawodowy. Adaptacja składa się z wielu czynników, które implikują pozytywne lub negatywne stany wykonywania przez człowieka pracy zawodowej. Artykuł jest teoretycznym zarysowaniem różnych możliwości na przystosowanie człowieka w środowisku pracy zawodowej na gruncie nauk społecznych, takich jak: pedagogika, socjologia, psychologia. Rozwinięciem tematu jest analiza użyteczności wybranych teorii adaptacji zawodowej dla pedagogiki specjalnej w funkcjonowaniu osób z niepełnosprawnościami. Dopełnieniem tej analizy jest wskazanie na różne bariery przystosowania do środowiska pracy niepełnosprawnych. Wnioski obejmują m.in. wzmocnienie aktywizacji zawodowej i aktywizacji socjalnej osób niepełnosprawnych.

    The article presents an empirical study on some predictors of attitudes to disabled people. The assumption was that in market-oriented societies attitudes to the needy and underprivileged are connected with the calculation of the costs and benefits of their inclusion in society. Psychological mercantilism is an individual characteristic which makes people especially keen on conducting such calculations. The relation between mercantilism and attitudes to the disabled with the perception of costs and benefits as mediators was examined in the group of 126 university students. The results showed a negative correlation between the main variables as well as the assumed mediation effect.

    The article raises the issue of research in artistic expression and creativity used in therapy. Such research requires an interdisciplinary approach combining the humanities (art studies) and the social studies (pedagogy, psychology, sociology), which causes issues with implementing a consistent research perspective. The author points out a few issues, called “sensitive areas”, and analyses them in relation to the disabled people theatre. These are: the presentation status of such groups, the dangers of subjectivism or the necessity of implementing the qualitative research model, the methods of research documentation.

    The paper indicates the historical and contemporary case of people with disabilities in one of the richest countries in the world, Saudi Arabia. From the very beginning (September 1932), Saudi Arabia has remembered, supported, and financed the rehabilitation of disabled people with various life dysfunctions. Year by year, the situation of people with disabilities has been improving, thanks to extensive rehabilitation and education programmes for educating children with disabilities.
    Текст указывает на исторический и современный случай положение людей с ограниченными возможностями в одной из самых богатых стран мира, Саудовской Аравии. С самого начала своего существования, то есть с сентября 1932 года, Саудовская Аравия помнит, поддерживает и финансирует реабилитацию инвалидов с различными жизненными дисфункциями. Положение инвалидов с каждым годом становится все лучше и лучше, благодаря обширным реабилитационным и образовательным программам обучения детей с ограниченными возможностями.

Przedstawiam także teoretyczne wzorce adaptacji inności przez rodziców – procesu przyjęcia niepełnosprawności.
    One of the key pedagogical categories is the category of the Other. It can be considered both as experiencing otherness and as a relationship with the Other. The author undertakes some reflections upon experiencing otherness by parents of children with disability and upon the sources of this experience. The theoretical models are also presented of the parental adjustment to otherness – the process of accepting the disability.

    Przedmiotem rozważań poczynionych w artykule jest analiza teoretyczno-prawna nowelizacji polskiego prawa wyborczego odnoszących się do zagadnienia zapewnienia osobom niepełnosprawnym udziału w procedurze wyborczej. Analizie zostaje poddany zarys procesu legislacyjnego zainicjowanego wniesieniem poselskiego projektu ustawy o zmianie niektórych ustaw w celu zwiększenia udziału obywateli w procesie wybierania, funkcjonowania i kontrolowania niektórych organów publicznych (w szczególności poprzez dodanie §2a do art. 52 kodeksu wyborczego), akty normatywne z zakresu prawa wyborczego, prawa ubezpieczeń, poglądy doktryny prawa. W niniejszym artykule Autor udzieli odpowiedzi na pytanie o to, czy nowelizacja art. 52 kodeksu wyborczego polegająca na dodaniu do niego § 2a ma charakter techniczny, czy gwarancyjny? Autor przeprowadzi polemikę, podczas której wykaże, że polskie prawo wyborcze przyjmuje prawną definicję niepełnosprawności. Ponadto, zostanie ustalone, jakie przyczyny niepełnosprawności mogą uzasadniać dobrodziejstwo skorzystania z art. 52 § 2a kodeksu wyborczego.
    The subject of the considerations made in the article is the theoretical and legal analysis of the amendment to the Polish electoral law relating to the issue of ensuring participation of disabled people in the electoral procedure. The outline of the legislative process initiated by submitting a deputy’s bill to amend certain acts in order to increase the participation of citizens in the process of electing, functioning and controlling certain public authorities (in particular by adding § 2a to article 52 of the electoral code), normative acts in the field of electoral law, insurance law, legal doctrine views are analyzed. In the article, the author answers the question whether the amendment to art. 52 of the electoral code, consisting of adding § 2a to it, is technical or warranty? The author conducts a polemic, during which he shows that Polish electoral law adopts the legal definition of disability. In addition, it is determined what causes of disability may justify the benefit of using art. 52 § 2a of the electoral code.

    At the heart of inclusive education is ensuring that students with disabilities have access to high-quality education in a mainstream setting. The way to achieve this goal is to build a new model, a school better adapted to the needs of all students. The paper aims to present the school situation (educational and peer) of students with disabilities against the background of everyday educational practice implemented in many Polish mainstream schools. Adopting the position on the teachers’ fundamental role in designing the development and learning environment, the focus was mainly on their educational activities and attitudes towards inclusive education. Critical points of the didactic and educational process have been identified, which hinder the transition from school routine to education open to the diverse needs of all pupils, including those with disabilities. Significant obstacles to building cooperation, exchanging knowledge among students, and, consequently, increasing the level of social relations were identified, among which the legitimisation of individualistic values, often reinforced by the mechanism of competition, may be particularly important.
    W centrum koncepcji edukacji włączającej jest zapewnienie uczniom z niepełnosprawnością wysokiej jakości kształcenia w placówce ogólnodostępnej. Droga do osiągnięcia tego celu wiedzie przez budowanie nowego modelu, szkoły lepiej dostosowanej do potrzeb wszystkich uczniów. Celem rozważań jest przedstawienie sytuacji szkolnej (dydaktycznej i rówieśniczej) uczniów z niepełnosprawnością na tle codziennej praktyki edukacyjnej realizowanej w wielu polskich szkołach ogólnodostępnych. Przyjmując stanowisko o zasadniczej roli nauczycieli w projektowaniu środowiska rozwoju i uczenia się, skoncentrowano się głównie na ich działalności edukacyjnej i postawach wobec edukacji włączającej. Zidentyfikowano newralgiczne punkty procesu dydaktyczno-wychowawczego, które utrudniają przejście od szkolnej rutyny do edukacji otwartej na zróżnicowane potrzeby wszystkich uczniów, w tym z niepełnosprawnością. Wskazano istotne przeszkody w budowaniu współpracy, wymianie wiedzy wśród uczniów, a w konsekwencji podnoszeniu poziomu relacji społecznych, wśród których szczególne znaczenie może mieć legitymizacja wartości indywidualistycznych, niejednokrotnie wzmacniana mechanizmem rywalizacji. Dystansowanie się części nauczycieli wobec edukacji włączającej (przy uznawaniu jej wartości) często koresponduje z poczuciem braku odpowiedniego przygotowania do pracy z uczniami z niepełnosprawnością oraz krytyczną oceną stanu gotowości szkół ogólnodostępnych do realizacji założeń inkluzji edukacyjnej.

    The article refers to the right to work of people with disabilities. The author explains the meaning of the terms “disabled person”, “disability” in the context of international regulations and national legislation. He also points to the foundations of the right to work in the context of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, as well as the Act on Vocational and Social Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities. The author draws attention to international regulations of the UN and ILO in this field. The article outlines the realization of this right in the context of employment of people with disabilities in protected labor market entities and on the so-called open labor market.
    Artykuł odnosi się do prawa do pracy osób z niepełnosprawnością. Autor wyjaśnia znaczenie pojęć „osoba niepełnosprawna”, „niepełnosprawność” na tle regulacji międzynarodowych oraz ustawodawstwa krajowego. Wskazuje również na podstawy prawa do pracy w kontekście Konstytucji RP, a także ustawy o rehabilitacji zawodowej i społecznej oraz zatrudnianiu osób niepełnosprawnych. Autor zwraca uwagę na regulacje międzynarodowe ONZ i MOP w tym zakresie. Artykuł nakreśla realizację tego prawa w kontekście zatrudnienia osób z niepełnosprawnością w podmiotach chronionego rynku pracy oraz na tzw. otwartym rynku pracy.
