Opis:
Mental health is defined as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his/her own potential, can cope with the normal stress of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his/her community (World Health Organization, 2004). War and disasters have the greatest impact on mental health and psychosocial well-being. A considerable number of child refugees enter Europe to seek refuge from ongoing conflict and war in their home countries. Refugee children are at greater risk of psychological distress than non-refugee children and they may develop symptoms such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, physical problems or become aggressive. Trauma can impact the children’s physical well-being, cognitive development and psychological/emotional well-being and behavior. Therefore, these children are identified as having unique; however, urgent mental health needs requiring timely interventions. According to these findings, in this article the author is trying to explain the mental health problems and interventions among two refugee children (brother and sister) who stayed in the Transit Centre “Vinojug” in Gevgelija, Republic of Macedonia, two years ago. They had significant psychological disturbances such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, because they lost their home and their father. They have been here only with their pregnant mother. At the beginning they needed individual psychiatric or psychological support, but later also group psycho-social support. Verbal, art and game-based interventions proved effective in reducing the PTSD symptoms and depression. After that, the children showed positive emotions such as gratitude, hope, happiness, and optimism. At the same time they started to attend the local school and the first words in Macedonian language were: “Hello, how are you?” They have already learned the Macedonian language and counted in Macedonian; they knew how to ask for water and learned the basic terms. Hence, when they left the Transit Center with their mother, they were very sad: “Here we have many new friends who help and love us”. Our study provides a strong evidence base regarding the use of verbal and clinical interventions for PTSD and emotional and behavioral difficulties, respectively. Also, the main goal of the psychological workshop is stimulation of the copy strategies, resilience and psychosocial development through structured playful activities such as voice, movement, painting, drawing, song, sound.

The aim of the research was to determine the predictive power of parenting styles in predicting subjective well-being and self-efficacy as aspects of adolescent mental health. The sample consisted of 270 students from four high schools in Serbia, aged 16 and 17. The research was conducted during March and April 2021, and research methods that were used are descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The authoritative parental educational style contributes to the development of adolescents’ experience of self-efficacy and subjective well-being. Authoritative parents - through high warmth and control - provide the child with an optimal environment for development.

The article deals with the subject of students’ mental health, which has been so relevant in recent years. It is based on Furlong’s concept and theory of socio-emotional health. We tried to discover relations between dimensions and their indicators of socio-emotional health and subjective happiness with orientation to Slovak secondary school students. We used the Social-Emotional Health Survey questionnaire, version for adolescents (SEHS-S), and our results solidly confirmed a positive relationship between experiencing happiness and dimensions of socio-emotional health.

The article explores the problem of reconstructing the experience of illness based on the narratives of people with mental disease. The research used the method of biographical interviews. The material consists of 16 biographical narratives of Dr J. Babiński Clinical Hospital patients. Their accounts form a coherent image of suffering caused by the illness included experiences preceding the disease, somatic symptoms, admission, and stay in the hospital. Thanks to the collected narratives, we have the opportunity to learn about the subjective experiences from the patient’s perspective, which is not present in the literature on psychopathology.

Opis:
Ample research has been done on rumination and mental health. However, minimum effort has been exerted to investigate these variables among parents of differently-abled children. The presented study investigates the relationship between rumination and mental health among parents of differently-abled children. The study also aimed to revisit the psychometric characteristics of the rumination scale. Two hundred parents were selected from different rehabilitation schools of the Kashmir Valley. The mean age and standard deviation of the respondents were 40.04 and 5.31, respectively. Results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated that model fit for the rumination scale was poor (c2 /df = 2.33; CFI =.65; AGFI;.76; RMSEA;.08; TLI;.61), whereas the model fit of the mental health was excellent. A negative relationship was found between rumination and mental health on the composite score as well as on their dimensions.

Parentification happens when children take on parental duties, which leads to role reversal between children and their parents. Parentification has multiple causes and can have a short- and long-term negative impact on parentified children. This study examined prevalence and correlates of parentification in Polish adolescents. The study included 557 16-year-old students in four types of Polish high schools. Results indicate that parentification is present to a considerable degree and may negatively affect students’ school functioning and affective well-being.

Opis:
The work concerns the role of childhood experiences in the development of mental health. It is believed that regardless of the emotional relationship and genetic predispositions, appropriately selected stimulants in the environment may also influence the young child’s development. In the first periods of child’s life the experiences gained in family pay as crucial character as the environment where this development takes place. It is emphasized in literature that appropriate intellectual and social development of a child is related with the influence of the external environment as long as it is available and logically designed. In Poland only a few studies concern families with small children – they are usually carried out by sociologists, moreover, there is also very little data on the determinants of the development of children and possible role of these for mental health. It was therefore attempted in this work to describe possible childhood experiences, which may play role in the development of mental health in childhood and adolescence or adulthood.

Opis:
The complex set of political, social, economic and environmental factors that result from military conflicts have an indirect and prolonged effect on public health. The destruction of medical and public health infrastructure complicates the process of providing assistance to victims, limiting both access and quality. Mental health is an important dimension of human capital that significantly affects aspects of human life such as well-being, employment, work, capital, stigma, and so on. According to the WHO, in situations of armed conflict, about 10% of traumatized people will have serious mental health problems, and another 10% will develop behaviors that interfere with their ability to function effectively. Depression, anxiety and psychosomatic problems, such as insomnia, are the most common consequences. The younger generation living in conflict-affected areas is vulnerable to mental health problems. During the war, young people face two types of traumatic events: type I (sudden traumatic event) and type II (prolonged exposure to adverse events, which leads to dysfunctional coping mechanisms). As a result, young people suffer from anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and dissociative disorders. The most important variables that determine the impact of war on the mental health of young people are the deprivation of basic resources (housing, water, food, education, health, etc.); broken family relationships (due to loss, separation or relocation); stigma and discrimination (significantly affect identity); pessimistic worldview (constant feeling of loss and grief, inability to see a bright future). Meta-analyzes use mixed methods to study mental health and psychosocial well-being in non-standard settings, such as focus groups and in-depth interviews. This is necessary for the formation of the research question, modification of tools for the analysis of local situations and interpretation of the collected epidemiological data. Models of rehabilitation of psychosocial systems are based on the need for a multilevel approach to psychosocial interventions that take into account the individual, family and the community as a whole. The public health model requires the interaction between social and individual age and time variables, with particular emphasis on risk and protection groups at different stages of life.
