Opis:
The concept of creative recreation is currently gaining a new meaning. The author proposes expanding the meaning of recreation to include creative recreation by drawing on insights from psycho-pedagogical theories of creativity. Nowadays creative recreation is also being explored more broadly in the context of urban space, as exemplified by workshops during which participants try to create urban space. The phenomenon of creative recreation in urban space is therefore an interesting subject for research, especially with a view to identifying factors that determine where creative activity is organised. The main research question addressed in this article is who and why organises outdoor creative recreation in urban recreational space? The study focuses on Łódź, a UNESCO Creative City of Film, which is analysed as an example of a city promoting itself as a creative urban centre. The author analyses results of interviews with experts and organisers of outdoor creative recreation, which show the latter ones as open-minded, engaged, and passionate. Other important characteristics revealed by the interviewees include cooperation with others, attempts to look for new ways of organising leisure time and new forms of mutual promotion. The organisers of outdoor creative recreation also expressed their strong attachment their city.

The aim of the article is to characterise suburban zones, particularly as area performing recreational and tourist functions for inhabitants of large cities (metropolises). The study presents goals and motivations, frequency and duration of recreational and tourist activity undertaken in suburban areas based on information collected from a representative group of Polish urban dwellers. The study is based on a review of the literature, the author’s observations and survey results. Essential quantitative data were obtained from a survey conducted on a representative sample of the Polish population carried out on the end of 2014 using the standardized questionnaire survey method as part of the Omnibus Express service (CATI). Most respondents contacted in the survey undertook tourist and recreational activity in the suburban zone every day or almost every day, usually accompanied by other family members. Their main intention was to rest and enjoy some recreational activities, visit relatives or friends and stay on summer holiday plots. The choice of the suburban zone was to a greater extent motivated by its tourist assets and familiarity with the area than its proximity to the place of permanent residence. Many respondents used some form of accommodation during those stays, including their own (private) summer houses, or relatives’ / friends’ flats, or hotel accommodation. The monitoring of tourist and recreational activity in Poland should be continued and should also focus on spaces used for these purposes. More extensive research would make it possible to identify patterns and trends, also at regional level. Consequently, this kind of research would facilitate a more effective planning and organization of tourism and recreation, which would bring measurable social, economic and spatial effects.

This study focused on investigating the relationship between leisure activity types selected by individuals aged 65 and older and their income. The target population included inhabitants of Mersin Province aged 65 and older. A purposive sample of 228 individuals was recruited to participate in the study. The questionnaire consisted of a demographic information form and the “Leisure participation scale”, including six different activity types for which the respondents were asked to determine the frequency of participation. The collected data were analysed for normality, and by applying the independent T-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). In order to discover the cause of the inter-group differences (e.g. education level), Fisher’s LSD test was used. Significance was set at 0.05. The respondents’ participation in cultural activities was found to be positively correlated with their income level. Individuals in the low income group preferred “volunteering activities”, while individuals in the high income group preferred “cultural activities such as watching TV, going to cinema, concerts, museums”. Individuals in the moderate income group usually opted for “hobbies and indoor activities such as painting, reading, playing musical instruments”. Elderly people with moderate incomes, who tend to prefer indoor activities, should be encouraged to engage in outdoor activities that are more beneficial for their mental, physiological and psychological health. This results of the study can be used as recommendations concerning leisure activity types for private elderly care centers, ministries responsible for the health of elderly people, local authorities and other institutions that plan leisure activities for this social group.

It employed diagnostic survey and the tool used was the questionnaire prepared by the authors. The purpose of the following paper is to characterize selected aspects of physical recreation only of inhabitants with disabilities of the Poznań metropolis. It presents below only the results concerning the basic information of physical recreation of this social group, without the analysis of the conditionality of the participations in this kind of leisure time activities. The study results indicate that the participation of people with disabilities in physical recreation near and away from their place of residence is low. Respondents prefer weekend activity near their place of residence and the forms of recreation are not very diverse. They usually use small recreation and sports facilities or they use outdoor infrastructure. Enhanced involvement of people with disabilities in physical recreation together with personalized, adjusted to a given dysfunction offer is required.

In the global economy based on knowledge it is metropolises that determine the region’s developmental potential. These are the regions of high population density and of diverse levels of life quality. Apart from intrapersonal and interpersonal features it is also environmental factors that impact on the likelihood of someone participating in physical recreation Recognizing characteristic features determining different forms of motor activity, their frequency together with the structure of recreational migrations is crucial in the process of planning and organizing recreational system in cities and metropolises. Therefore, the purpose of the following study is to determine the level of participation in recreational activity of the inhabitants of Poznań metropolis, together with the analysis of selected factors of demographic, social and economic character that have a differentiating effect onto this activity. In the study 1584 inhabitants of Poznań metropolis were examined by 5 professional interviewers between March and June 2016 by means of a standardized questionnaire. The conducted studies proved high diversification of recreational activity of the inhabitants of the Poznań Metropolis and substantiated the directional hypotheses. The obtained results made it possible to identify the groups of inhabitants who participate in recreational activity regularly, seasonally and occasionally. Moreover, the demographic, social and economic variables made it possible to identify a group of inhabitants who are extremely passive or participate in motor recreation very rarely.

The aim of this article is to present results of a study concerning the level of social competences displayed by students of tourism and recreation and how it relates to their work experience. The author hypothesized that the fact of being employed could help to differentiate between different levels of social competences in the student population. Factors such as the length of work experience, positions held, work abroad, internships, and voluntary work were analysed. The study was based on quantitative and qualitative data collected using such tools such as the Social Competence Questionnaire and the Questionnaire for Self-Assessment of Student’s Professional Achievements in order to identify forms of professional activity among the respondents. Full-time students of tourism and recreation were found to have an average level of social competences, and their work experience, considered as a form of social training, did not differentiate between different levels of social competence. No statistically significant correlations were found between the level of social competence and internships at secondary schools, internships at university, work experience in general and in tourism and recreation in particular, and voluntary work. Also, positions held did not differentiate the level of social competence. It could therefore be concluded that the respondents’ work experience was too short to have a measurable effect on the level of their social competences, which take much more time to develop and depend on personal and environmental factors.

The aim of this article is to present biographical narratives about tourist destinations retained in memories of seniors from the period of their youth, i.e. the 60s, 70s and 80s of the last century. The author’s intention was to retrieve those distant memories during narrative interviews with respondents and use them to reconstruct information about tourist destinations. The respondents were not asked any specific questions about their holiday memories and were allowed to choose what they wanted to recall. The preferences revealed during the interviews resemble contemporary trends. It can therefore be concluded that despite the passage of time and all kinds of changes that have taken place over several decades, tourists are invariably attracted to the same destinations.

The main objective of this paper is to identify chief areas and forms of one day leisure activity performed by Poznań Metropolis’ residents. A hypothesis was assumed that the dominant area of tourist holiday activity of interviewees is the Warta River Valley and its main creeks, and the most common form of activity is qualified tourism, nature-based tourism, physical recreation, relax and rest. Method used for hypothesis verification was a diagnostic survey, with a questionnaire interview. Research was conducted in the years 2015 and 2016, on about 1600 residents of the metropolis. The article has a research character and is about preferences in the area of using tourist holiday spaces of Poznań Metropolis. Practical implication of the article is to point out a level of activity in specific tourist holiday areas within the research scope, in order to classify these areas. Results confirmed both assumed theses. Main directions of one day recreation excursions are the Warta Valley and the valleys of rivers Główna and Cybina (especially near the Malta Lake). Preferred forms of tourist recreation are qualified tourism, nature, relaxation and physical recreation.

The article describes the methodology and methods of examining the tourist-recreational activity in urban agglomerations, also in the territorial dimension. The authors present maps showing the regional development of the tourist and recreational economy of the Lviv agglomeration taking into account its functional zones. They also provide a justification for selecting existent and prospective tourist-recreational complexes and places of interests (tourist localities) situated within the functional zones of the agglomeration – urban, suburban and peripheral ones. A number of possible tourist activities and services (products) are proposed for functional zones and selected places of interest. The authors argue that tourist-recreational regionalization must be taken into account when implementing administrative-territorial reforms in the Lviv agglomeration. In particular, it is important to create a standard set of spatial units and develop criteria for selecting them that account for the development of urban and suburban tourism in these areas.

The aim of this article is to show the importance of the largest sports and recreational facilities located in the tourism space of Łódź. The analysis is mainly based on an inventory of stadiums and multi-purpose arenas in Łódź. In addition, the article provides a review of the literature related to sport tourism in cities, with emphasis on definitions of sport tourism and tourism space. Another category of information used by the author includes data compiled by institutions managing the facilities and bodies responsible for the organization of sports events in the city. The sport facilities of interest are also classified according to selected criteria. Finally, the discussion is supported by statistics about tourist traffic during sports and cultural events associated with the analysed sport and recreation facilities. The analysis indicates that the largest sports and recreation facilities play a role in the tourism space of Łódź but it is not as significant played by Piotrkowska Street or the Manufaktura shopping and service center.

The article addresses the question of adapting public spaces, including parks and gardens, to the needs of people with disabilities for the purpose of outdoor recreation. According to the principles of universal design, public spaces should enable social inclusion, which implies respect for current needs of diverse populations. The study described in the article focuses on the needs of people with vision impairment regarding outdoor recreation and adjustments that need to be made in the infrastructure of parks and gardens. The aim of the study was to answer three key questions: (1) How can outdoor experiences be made accessible to people with visual impairments? (2) How can outdoor experiences be encouraged, rethought and redesigned for people with visual impairments? (3) What barriers stop people with visual disabilities from participating in outdoor leisure in sensory gardens? These questions are answered using insights from desk research, data from an inventory of selected sensory gardens and interviews with blind and partially sighted respondents. The study, conducted between June and August 201, covered 15 gardens located in various parts in Poland: in cities, rural areas and areas of natural value. The interviews, involving 32 respondents, were held directly in the gardens in cooperation with the Polish Association for the Blind. The results were used to formulate recommendations for good practice in the field of universal garden design, which can provide sensory experiences for everyone, including people with visual impairments. The observed development of sensory gardens seems to reflects a great interest in this type of outdoor sites, which are conducive to recreation, education, integration, and social inclusion. Solutions applied in sensory gardens should provide inspiration for creating universal gardens, accessible to everyone.
