Opis:
The article describes the most important problems of philosophy of Albert Camus: life as the experience of absurdity, and rebellion as a human reaction to it. It also depicts the relations between that postulates and explains Camus’s ways of reasoning and argumentation. Furthermore, the article shows Camus’s answers to the basic philosophical questions. It proves that the Nobel prize winner was not only a writer, but a philosopher and an existentialist as well.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to contribute to the discussion about the relevance of existential issues in contemporary education. The analyses presented in the paper are related to the problems of self-reflection, self-questioning and the process of spiritual and moral development of human beings. Firstly, the author begins by depicting the meaning of human existence in the light of philosophy. What is at issue here is a question of being oneself, recognizing personal truth and finding one’s own voice as opposed to being inauthentic or fleeing from oneself. Special attention is paid to the language as an essential, constitutive element of being. Secondly, the article attempts to consider some educational implications resulting from the deep ontological relationship between human beings and language. Describing them, the author indicates that ignoring vital questions in language education contributes to spiritual vacuity in the lives of young people and reduces educational thinking merely to instrumental, pragmatic problems concerned with qualification and transfer of communicative skills.

Opis:
Analysing contemporary works on patterns of interpersonal conflict formation and resolution, one can quite easily notice the predominant tendency to reduce the problem of interpersonal disputes exclusively to psychological and pedagogical issues. Thus, matters such as the root causes of conflicts, attitudes towards them and conflict resolution strategies predominate. Conclusions arising from the research are reflected in recommendations and proposals with regard to conflict resolution in the school, work or family environment. Not denying in any way the importance of the research results on the psychological determinants of problematic interpersonal relations and the resulting recommendations, it is worth asking whether psychological knowledge, awareness of one’s own needs, communication and negotiation skills are sufficient to effectively confront difficulties in interpersonal relations and fulfil oneself as a person. This article attempts to argue for the inclusion of philosophical issues in the discussion of interpersonal conflict resolution, with a special focus on issues derived from existential philosophy of a theistic nature and personalism.

We refer to the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas, existentialist philosophers such as Søren Kierkegaard, Martin Heidegger, the founder of psychoanalysis - Sigmund Freud, as well as to that of the Russian thinker Nikolai Berdyaev and German philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. The intent of the author is to show von Balthasar’s eclectic work, i.e. the analysis and assimilation of new ideas in the main body of the Swiss theologian theory.

In this article author analyses the value on being itself as a basis and reason for prolongation of the mankind. Against some nihilistic and existentialist philosophers and writers who denied the value of life-giving, author refers to thoughts of Emmanuel Levinas and Remi Brague and shows that, like in the ancient and scholastic philosophy, we can find here the belief that Being is essentially connected with the Good itself. Neitherscience (as well as ideologies it evolves), nor pessimistic overview can give us such a powerful perspective to mankind’s durability and its genuine value as a humanism, strengthened with religious faith, can do.

Opis:
Artykuł stanowi próbę przeanalizowania religijnej i egzystencjalnej funkcji przyrody w prozie Wojciecha Kuczoka. Wielokrotnie przez pisarza podkreślana przed-człowieczość jaskiń, budzący grozę majestat górskich szczytów, obcowanie z formacjami powstałymi przed milionami lat – wszystko to „wywołuje metafizyczny dreszcz”, prowadzi do nadania naturze wymiaru sakralnego.
The article is an attempt to analyze the religious and existential function of nature in the prose of Wojciech Kuczok. The writer repeatedly emphasizes the pre humanity of caves, the terrifying majesty of mountain peaks and age of natural formations that were created millions of years ago – all this “causes a metaphysical thrill” and leads to finding a sacred dimension in natural world. The concept of time is transforming and revaluating, human life seems to be just a glimpse comparing to eternity of the natural world. Therefore, in Kuczok’s writings, the real temples are not churches or cathedrals built by human hands, but caves and grottos – only in these “eternal miracles” human is able to look for “God’s traces”.

Opis:
Two hundred years have passed since the question of subjectivity (re-interpreted through Kierkegaard’s existentialism) became central in modern philosophy. Over these two centuries, multiple theories addressed and questioned the borders between authentic subjectivity and an internalized panopticon of the hegemonic views that dominate the subject. Nevertheless, they still have to be definitively defined. As we may try to point Fake News (FN) is an opponent to subjectivity, and yet it comes from the subject. FN is the intentional spreading through new technologies of false information on a global level by subjects that use social media, a process influencing not only the sense of socio-political reality but also the concept of identity. Identities (personal or collective) are in general the combination of the socially determined understanding of ‘who I am’ and the socially and psychologically influenced ‘mental model’ of ‘what the world - and the self within it - should be’, all expressed and produced under the fundamental influence of our idiosyncratic characteristics. One of the fields that all these factors meet and interact is the new mediated environment where almost everyone can participate and contribute. According to the Sociology of Communication as founded by Giddens, Habermas and Luckmann (Leydesdorff 2000) this makes the public part of our identity the dominant one, creating a ritual in which our narcissistic elements dominate our private ones. The Self, addressing itself into the public like an echo and back to the Self, becomes ritualized. In our paper, we explore the interrelation of this phenomenon with the creation and distribution of Fake News, from the vantage point of Kierkegaard’s existential philosophy.

Opis:
This paper proposes a new interpretation of Niyevsky’s novel The Devils. This reading opposes the very influential line of interpretation employed in wkolai Vsevolodowich Stavrogin – a relentlessly intriguing character in Fyodor Dostoorks of thinkers working within the current of Russian symbolism and “cultural renaissance” from the beginning of the 20th century. The author argues that this “religious” interpretive tradition contributes to one of the greatest misunderstand-ings concerning Dostoyevsky’s work in that it oversimplifies its ambivalence and obscures one of Dostoyevsky’s darkest insights into the human soul, initially revealed in Notes From the Under-ground and from that time on recurring in each of his major novels. In the first part of the article, several classic Russian interpretations of Stavrogin are examined in order to show their common tendency to morally judge Stavrogin from the Orthodox point of view, recognize his greatest sin in the lack of faith in God and for that reason see before him only the perspective of self-disintegration and inevitable death. The author argues that “religious” interpretations do not explain the mystery of Stavrogin. What is more, they homogenize the complexity of his character and offer an all-to-easy solution to the vital philosophical problem which reiterates in Dostoyevsky’s entire mature fiction and which finds its greatest artistic representation in Stavrogin himself.

The paper discusses the French science fiction short film The Jetty (La Jetée) by Chris Marker. Made in 1962, the black and white film is constructed almost entirely from still photos. The author first gives a summary of the plot and then considers the genre and aesthetic syncretism of Marker’s work. Musical, rhythmical and visual aspects of the movie are also covered. Using Waldemar Frąc’s theory of “possible cinema”, whose main ideas are presented in the article, various possible ways of interpreting the film are shown.
