Satisfied desires make you happy. Desires are fantasy narratives a  person tells about her life and goals. They focus on intentional objects that are happiness-makers for the person: to achieve them is supposed to make one happy. Normally, such objects are good things and their context is seen in a positive manner. However, the goals may also be hurtful, as the person herselfsees it. These are, at least sometimes, mad desires. To explain them, it is not enough to say that they are impulsive and irrational, unconscious, or that they are good in disguise. I explain what this means and give some examples. I also consider the thesis that satisfaction of desire is less than full happiness, which may well be true. This becomes clear when we think of moral choices.

Opis:
Since the 1980s sexual diversity has become an object of interest for both sexology and gender studies. There is general agreement that we are witnessing disintegration of traditional sexual practice combined with enhanced pluralism of sex life. The question that remains challenging is whether – or to what extent – it is possible to diversify forms of sexual activity in a society with predominantly heteronormative attitudes. The object of analysis is Salamander – a novel by Jürgen Lodemann from 2011. The author, acting as an advocate of non-normative sexuality, tells a story of Alexa Undine Brandes – an intersexual protagonist entangled in a love triangle. With her anatomically unique body, she is capable of fluent transitions in her erotic activity. The author reflects upon fluid, non-normative sexuality seen as a duality that brings sexual fulfilment and satisfaction. At the same time, however, it can also be classified as destructive passion which – posing a challenge to heteronormative social conventions – may have tragic circumstances, as described by the author.

Opis:
Many conceptual analyses of the structure and mode of operation of the contemporary society outline a worrying and discouraging framework. They describe the decadence of values and they depict a world populated with individuals who are narcissistically self-oriented, looking for the satisfaction of their own desires, unable to desire, build and keep stable, continual and deep relations and affects. Nevertheless, recent psychological research, supported by the evidence of neuroscientific research, has evidenced that the origins of the psychic development of the individual are connected to the domain of the relational experience. New-borns become persons in and thanks to the context of relations where they live and grown up. Thus, relations are an essential feature and a fundamental and peculiar experience for the human being. This is evident if we try to analyse aspects and dimensions, such as attachment, trust, desire and care. Attachment allows not only the survival but also the internalization of relational patterns which are necessary for life. The trust experience in the primal relations allows the vital energy to be addressed towards the world and to build ties thanks to the experience of faith in the other. Experimenting satisfaction and frustration, possibility and limits in the interpersonal relations fosters the development of desire and of the capability of wait, renounce, choice, care, as well as the necessity/opportunity of recognizing/knowing the other. Feeling himself or herself understood by a caring other prepares the ground for the experience of personal safety and thanks to some special pedagogical reinforcements, it opens to the possibility of taking care of someone else, in a structure of mutual exchanges and material, affective and spiritual support which is necessary for any human being. Significant socio-cultural changes occurred in the last decades have influenced those fundamental experiences and contributed to produce new relational styles and models which are characterised by precariousness and discontinuity. It is thus of primary importance to promote and sustain a reflection and education on these themes with the aim of fostering our needs and relations, whose expression is essential for the wellness and selfrealization of individuals and communities. And this is not only in order to achieve a harmonic development of growing-up subjects but even for adults who want to fully accomplish their life and the related needs of sharing, intimacy and generativity. These results have to be achieved by taking into consideration the peculiarity of modern life and by searching for creative solutions thanks to which, at least partially, we can try to combine the new claims with the essential experience of “being” in a relation.

The present article is an attempt to use the metaphorical category of temperature in the interpretation of literary creations of love in two different cultural contexts: against the background of the emotional culture of the inter-war period as well as of the present time. The analysis focusses on two literary texts: Don Juan kommt aus dem Krieg (1936) by Ödön von Horváth as well as Don Juan de la Mancha (2007) by Robert Menasse, which encourage to reflect on remarkable transformations of the culture of love and the positioning of both men and women within the new emotional styles.

The essay is devoted to the novels of the German writer Stephen Thome. The writer’s narrative attention is focused on the puzzlement regarding intimate relations between males and females, aiming at captur-ing to what extent love, “a warming and intoxicating drug in the social coldness” (Volkmar Sigusch) is capable of making life meaningful. In the very centre of the analysis stands on the one hand the ‘in-each other-reflection’ of the male and female positions, on the other hand the palpable ambivalence between the inner freezing of the figures and their desire for gentle intimacy. The attempt has been made in order to open the arranged forms of the fulfillment of the desire – i.e. love and sexuality – to the possibility of depicting the phenomenon which is – according to Sigusch – significant for the late-modern era: more important than the sexual act for the partners is a steady relationship in which they feel accepted and preserved.

The paper focuses upon the latest adult romance novels that appeared after Fifty Shades of Grey, anal-yses their stylistic dimensions and argues with the essay Hard-Core Romance by Eva Illouz. At first the genre is defined, above all on the basis of its medial presence (chapter 1. Genre). Furthermore tempera-ture metaphors in two representative texts of the genre (E.L. James Fifty Shades of Grey and Sylvia Day Bared to You) are analyzed as stylistic (chapter 2. Conventional Temperature Metaphors) as well as rhetorical artifacts (chapter 3. Rhetoric of Metaphor). In conclusion the question of language in the novels and its usefulness in the task described by Illouz is raised (chapter 4. A New Love Order?). The new adult romance novel seems to be a conventional cultural text of little rhetorical power, thus unable to carry important social ideas.

The article presents B. Leśmian as a poet involved in his self-imposed task of promoting a return to primeval nature, but, at the same time, somebody who is fully aware of the utopian character of thus formulated and adopted assumptions. The two contradictory approaches converge in a poetic figure of desire. This particular urge is treated as a model of the imagination of the poet, who creates his poetical world knowing that the ultimate aim is unattainable but constitutes the ideal of poetry and can only be a state of cognitive assurance and self-knowledge or, alternatively, a situation of ontological stability and fulfilment. However, to reach this utmost goal, either on the poetical plane or on the existentialist, epistemological and ontological plane, to fulfill the cherished desires, is not possible within the poetical world created by Leśmian. The raison d’etre of the self manifested by the protagonists of his poems as well as a justification of this poetry is the very striving towards the goal. The article shows the relevant dimensions of that desire as a metapoetical figure, anthropological and existentialist figures and epistemological and ontological figures. It further presents the opposition and the inner conflict within the modern views of the poet, who, consciously inscribes into his project its impracticability. The distance towards the current times and towards the idealistic assumptions of his own poetical programme constitutes the intrinsic originality of Leśmian’s poems.

The article analyses the presentation of the Erlkönig as a cold seducer in transmedia. In this context, not only the famous ballad of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe from 1782 is regarded, but also transformations in arts, illustrations and especially in film are analysed. Within this regard the violent and coldblooded attitude of the Erlkönig towards the child is focused. In the center of the analysis is the recitation and reception of Goethe’s ballad in Andrew Birkin’s Stefan Zweig-adaptation Burning Secret from 1988. The film expands the poetic source by exposing subtexts such as homoerotic, when the baron von Hau-enstein is presented as a cold seducer like the Erlkönig, who attracts the young Edmund. At the same time Birkin adds another interpretation of the ballad, which doesn’t explain the death of the child as something physical, but as an initiation of becoming an adult and the included desires.

At the same time acceptance of spouse’s death and successful adaptation to widowhood are the developmental tasks of late adulthood phase, which may provide to personal growth. A widowed person can decide if they desire to engage new romantic relationship. Research shows that starting a new relationship is motivated by various factors: psychological (e.g. spouse idealization, anxiety), biological (e.g. age, health), and external factors (e.g. socioeconomic situation). New late-life romantic relationships differ from previous stages of life – we can observe changes in: relationship goals, dynamic of the relationship and together activities, although seniors experience passionate love the same way that younger generations do.

Opis:
In spite of popular interpretation of Gilles Deleuze’s philosophy as a kind of postmodernism, poststructuralism or Nietzscheanism, this paper reveals its deep rooting in the transcendental idealism of Immanuel Kant. According to the main thesis, it was Kant who delivered the primary source of philosophical schemes that inspired both the early (expressed mainly in Difference and Repetition, 1986), and late period of Deleuze’s work, starting with the first volume of Capitalism and Schizophrenia called Anti-Oedipus, written in collaboration with Félix Guattari (1972). The main part of the essay contains contextual analysis of the latter. In Anti-Oedipus Deleuze and Guattari propose the concept of desire (unconscious) as a power capable of constituting nomadic subjectivity, characterized by the openness to difference, creativity, and drawing strength from social diversity. However, they note that a desire is characterized by a tendency to undergo internal illusions and, as a result, to block its own revolutionary and creative possibilities. That is why, say Deleuze and Guattari, it is necessary to carry on the critique of pure unconsciousness, whose aim is to reveal these illusions and perhaps to free us from them
Wbrew popularnym interpretacjom filozofii Deleuze’a jako odmiany postmodernizmu, poststrukturalizmu bądź nietzscheanizmu w artykule przedstawione zostaną jej głębokie korzenie pochodzące z idealizmu transcendentalnego Immanuela Kanta.

Niniejszy tekst stanowi próbę ukazania związków pomiędzy myślą Marksa a przedstawioną w Anty-Edypie ontologią pragnienia.
This text attempts to reveal the relationship between Marx’s thought and the ontology of desire presented in Anti-Oedipus. Its key mode of operation, allowing exposure of the relationship between these two philosophical projects, will consist of omitting any references to psychoanalysis. Thus, the basic concepts forming the theoretical grid of Anti-Oedipus – concepts such as desire, body, unconsciousness, code, lack, and even Oedipus – will be explained without reference to the writings of Freud, Lacan and Melanie Klein. Too much time has been devoted to these last-named, as a result narrowing down the circle of recipients of Deleuze and Guattari’s work. It seems that the communication block was created primarily between Anti-Oedipus and the Marxist milieu (not counting a few minor exceptions). This is a channel that should finally be made available.

The work The Passing of Peregrinus by Lucian of Samosata presents a picture of a pseudo-philosopher , who under the disguise of Cynic asceticism and courageous death, hid such an extraordinary desire for fame and publicity that it took on a pathological size. This morbid craving for popularity that he acquired by any possible means finally brought Peregrinus to suicidal death, although, in fact, he did not really want it. What Lucian did not approve of his conduct was falseness, cheap theatrical claptrap, using human simplicity and warm-heartedness. Lucian damasks in a brutal way the unbound craving for publicity from which all actins of Peregrinus stemmed. By removing a tragic mask from his face Lucian pinpoints his ridiculousness and ugliness. It was the pursuit of popularity that brought Peregrinus to destruction. His self-immolation, however, was not viewed upon by Lucian as an act of heroism, but merely as a grotesque and miserable ending of an equally grotesque and deplorable life.

Opis:
Lumen Fidei (The Light of Faith) is intended as the guiding magisterial document for the Year of Faith. Faith is the gateway to salvation. To reach eternal salvation, it is necessary: to have been baptized sacramentally; and to die sincerely professing the Catholic faith. A U.S. Jesuit priest, poet, lyricist, and essayist Leonard Edward Feeney (1897-1978) articulated and defended a strict interpretation of the Roman Catholic doctrine, extra Ecclesiam nulla salus (outside the Church there is no salvation). He took the position that baptism of blood and baptism of desire are unavailing and that therefore no non-Catholics will be saved. Fighting against what he perceived to be the liberalization of Catholic doctrine, he came under ecclesiastical censure. The Vatican’s Holy Office rejected his restrictive view by distinguishing between those who really belong to the Church (in re) and those who belong by desire (in voto). The desire would be explicit in those who were catechumens and implicit in those people of goodwill who would join the Church if they knew it to be the one true Church of Christ. St. Augustine also distinguishes between the sacrament of baptism and the turning of the heart to God. He teaches that if either of these conditions cannot be secured, the other will be sufficient. A baptized child is saved without turning its heart to God, should it die before coming to the age of reason, and a man who turns his heart to God is saved without water baptism, provided he in no way despises the sacrament. St. Thomas states, „some have received the invisible sanctification without visible sacraments, and to their profit; but though it is possible to have the visible sanctification, consisting in a visible sacrament, without the invisible sanctification, it will be to no profit”. The encyclical Lumen Fidei presents faith as a light that dispels the darkness and illuminates the way which is the human being. Respecting the religious sensibility of searchers who lack explicit faith, the letter recognizes that “Religious man strives to see signs of God, in the daily experiences of life, in the cycle of the seasons, in the fruitfulness of the earth and in the movement of the cosmos” (no. 35). It continues, “To the extent that they are sincerely open to love and set out with whatever light they can find, the popes tell us, “[searchers] are already, even without knowing it, on the path leading to faith.” The light of faith in Jesus illumines the path of seekers. Letter to the Hebrews speaks about Enoch and Abel who believed in God before Abraham. Christ is the concentration of light of God, who illumines every human experience and journey of man to God.

Over the course of almost half a century of development, in vitro fertilisation techniques have not only become popular and accessible, but have also gained ethical acceptance even in Catholic circles, despite the unequivocally negative assessment of the Church’s Magisterium. The paper addresses the emotional and persuasive arguments of opponents and supporters of this procedure. The serious arguments, revolve around two issues: on the one hand, the fate of embryos that perish in the course of this procedureand, on the other hand, the separation of the conception of a new person from the parents’ sexual act. These objections have lost none of their relevance and moral weight, which is why Catholic parents, despite the undoubtedly acute suffering that is associatedwith infertility, should maintain a critical and distanced outlook on in vitro fertilisation.
