Opis:
Word formation is significant for the linguistic and cognitive development of the child and it is possible to get and interpret data concerning decoding and encoding word-formative structures by children with intellectual disability through linguistic analysis. This task is so much important because Polish literature lacks studies concerning word formation competence of children with intellectual disability. The article shows the need for research and their description as well as the evaluation of understanding and forming word-formative structures by children with intellectual disability in comparison with analogical abilities of children without such a disability.

Opis:
The paper presents the mechanisms that led to the first American legal regulations and organizations for the protection of minors and the elimination of child abuse. The background for the considerations is the case that shocked the American public opinion in the second half of the 19th century. It concerned a 10-year-old girl, Mary Ellen Wilson, who was a victim of violence and neglect on the part of her guardians. The attempts to save the child showed that the American system of social welfare lacked adequate institutional and organizational instruments to protect a child who was a victim of violence and abuse. Based on the literature and available archival materials – official documents and press publications from the discussed period – the course of the trial was reconstructed, as well as the initiatives undertaken after its completion, which led to the establishment of the first American organization aimed to protect children. The summary presents the characteristics of the American movement for the protection of children against the background of European initiatives undertaken in this field.

Opis:
The article presents the need to make the culture of children's rights fundamental from the earliest years of their lives, given the idea of children's social participation. Creating and practising such a culture throughout childhood is a task that requires not only a thorough knowledge of the child’s rights among both parents and teachers but also the wider acceptance of these ideas and the creation of the right environment for sharing and speaking up for them both at home and in early education settings. The academic and colloquial discourse on parental practices and institutional childcare often overlooks the dimension/significance of recognising children's participation in safeguarding their human rights. Meanwhile, the processes of early normative socialisation are of great importance to their development and their future attitudes towards law in general and towards their human rights and others' rights. Social participation is where the child can experience his or her rights and learn about respecting others' rights. With this in mind, a question must be asked about how children's rights are realised in early childhood in the context of their participation in the socialisation process. The author uses the example of the child’s right to a family as a lens to observe how the idea of the children’s participation in securing children’s rights may be realised or violated. The article is based on an analysis of the subject's literature, in which legal discourse and teachings on child-rearing and early education are used as the interpretative context.

Opis:
Play is a typical and natural activity in children, which introduces it to the real world. It plays an uncommonly important function, thanks to the which the little person learns and gains information about their environment, the properties of objects, social relations or other rules. This area is different in children with autism. In most cases, play is accompanied by significant deficits, and the burden of focus of revalidation influences remains on the development of areas that are more disturbed, such as communication, disturbances in social interactions or behaviour hindering functioning. In course of therapeutic work, we sometimes forget the seemingly trivial activity that the playing of a child may be in view of adults. Considering this, it is worthwhile to take a look at the role ascribe to play by specialists over the years, and what it looks like in autistic children.

Opis:
Aggression is defined as the intentional action which causes pain and injury. The actions of an aggressive nature are designed to cause physical or mental harm to another person (Aronson, Wilson, & Akert, 1997). In contrast, violence is defined as an intentional action that goes beyond social norms and causes mental or physical pain (Pospiszyl, 1999). The article is concentrated on aggressive and violent language among children and adolescents. The term of ”language of aggression” has not been precisely defined yet. The language of aggression occurs the most when negative emotions and intentions are involved in the communication (Majchrzyk, 2002). The language of aggression is not only about using specific bad words but also about the way we speak. The article presents an overview of Polish and foreign literature concerning the issue of the language of aggression in children and adolescents. It shows why do teenagers and children use aggressive language, how is defined term of ”aggressive language” and what specialists can do to prevent such kind of problem.

Janusz Korczak (the pen name of Henryk Goldszmit), writer, doctor, but above all one the best tutors and teachers. Korczak fought for improvement of children’s lives. By his life and convictions he tried to prove that a child is a complete human being, not only a person in the making. Struggling for human dignity of a child, he concentrated his efforts on three areas: dignity of children, the rights of children and their place in a society. We can learn his stance on the situation of children, in the context of the European Children’s Rights Movement at the beginning of the 20th century, when he says: „wzywam o magna charta libertatis, o prawa dziecka” – (“I call for Magna Charta Libertatis, for children’s rights”). The voice of Janusz Korczak in his famous pedagogical essay “Jak kochać dziecko” – (“How to Love a Child”) has retained its significance to the present day. Fighting for children’s rights, the “Old Doctor” (his second pseudonym) concentrated on the position of children in the adults’ world and their mutual relationships. That is why the analysis of the main spheres of activity of the adults and children (family, school, society) is so important today, and consequently, finding the answer to the questions: To what extent are the Korczak’s objectives in the abovementioned spheres realized today? How children’s rights are respected?

Opis:
Child rights can be considered through the different characteristics of human rights, according to the classification “3P” as Protection, Provision, and Participation. The (potential) distinction between child rights and human rights recalls the former perspective about children’s not seen as human beings. The development of the fields on childhood studies such as “children’s participation” and “agency” are also related to the concept “empowerment,” which indicates the power relations between children and grown-ups. The main purpose of this paper is to debate all those notions through the children’s own experiences by referring to various examples in the frame of Power of children as the Fourth-P right. After discussing how children have the power to “challenge the authority,” I will indicate some examples from Little Review, as a remarkable experience of children’s participation. Lastly, I will try to reveal what today’s children consider the topic of child rights by sharing the findings of a pilot research with children, which I realized in 2019 December. In this study, twelve children who were 11-year-old then, wrote their commentaries about children’s rights and the requirements to have the rights. Thus, in the final part of this paper, the rights will be addressed through children’s perspectives.

The status of children in family and society is low since the year dot. This state of things is caused especially by adultcentrism, which means the view on youngsters from adult perspective, including the belief that adulthood is normality and standard, whereas childhood is state of incompleteness and imperfection. The article discusses the roots of adultcentric notions, instrumental treatment and social exclusion of children. The author examines the changes in social status of children and the influenceof consumerism and information revolution on contemporary role of children in family and society. She also considers why the objectification of children is so difficult to end.

The purpose of this article is to present the protection of children's rights in the light of Polish and international legal regulations. Considerations regarding the legal basis for the protection of children's rights were divided into four parts. The right to be brought up in the family as a basic unit of society was discussed first of all. The next part elaborates on the right to decent social conditions. And the following deliberations are related to the right to education as the right to culture to which each and every child is entitled. The right to live as the inalienable right which is inevitably combined with the right to health protection was described as well.

The paper discusses the issue of functioning of the rural child during the time of the profanum, within the period from the late Middle Ages till the 19th century. The purpose of this text is to attempt to answer the questions: how did peasant children participate in the time of the profanum – understood as a time of non-celebration, and thus working time resulting from the rhythm of nature and the calendar of fieldwork, and the time of play? What did rural children learn during that time? What social and cultural skills did they acquire? The analysis of iconographic, memoir and literary sources serves the historical and pedagogical interpretation.
