    With the start of the new century, and especially during the last decade, many writers are starting to putt he focus on the body and its various problems derived from the current socioeconomic system. One of them is Marta Sanz, for whom, in her own words, writing consists of “naming the body” and, thanks to that, “conquering the territory”. His discourse is frontally opposed to the discourse of postmodernity and to the models of advanced capitalism, above all and more consciously in his latest novels. What this article aims to show is how and in what way the body and its repolitization constitute one of the central axes of this author’s writing.

    The article develops the analysis of recurrent kitschy motifs in poetry and prose by Justyna Bargielska. This authoress consciously and intensively takes advantage of pop-cultural kitsch, kitsch connected to maternity and femininity, sacrokitsch and consolatory kitsch used in mourning practices. She derives many fetishized objects from these areas and transforms them into private talismans; she also borrows many established pop-cultural visions that serve her heroines to create their identity, but sometimes these patterns become a costume for individual fears and phantasies. The term ‘kitschism’ was invented by Bargielska herself and it suggests intellectual distance towards the figures and requisites used. The writer’s attitude towards kitschy cliches is developed as a dialectical movement of attraction and repulsion, and is not meant to overthrow dominant stereotypes; this approach is often similar to camp strategies, yet it extends beyond ludic or ironic games. Bargielska is interested mainly in the anthropological aspect of kitsch, which is situated between the individual and the community. The writer tests the usefulness of cliches while confronting her heroines with the most serious subjects, like death, love or loss.

    Julia Fiedorczuk’s academic, journalistic and critical activity invites readings of her poetry in the context of ecopoetics, which she actively promotes. Her ecocritically oriented poems explore the links between poetry and natural environment, proposing an interdisciplinary practice of cocreation of the human and non-human world, as well as a re-evaluation of our understanding of the relations between them. It is, at the same time, a type of poetry that exposes its gender affiliation; it evokes and deconstructs the culturally instilled associations between femininity and nature, and formulates questions pertaining to identity and metaphysics. With her “woman and world: user’s manuals” project, poetically original yet deeply rooted in (post)modern contexts, Fiedorczuk represents one of the most interesting currents of contemporary – and not just women’s – poetry.

    The paper deals with the topic of ecologically oriented poetry of Krystyna Miłobędzka as a vital tradition for 21st-century Polish ecopoets. The author tries to trace the changes in the poetic canon after 1990 and shows the increasing interest in Miłobędzka’s poetry among modern poets. By analyzing mainly meta-poetic texts, the paper contrasts Miłobędzka’s posthumanistic, “event-driven” way of writing with the humanistic lyrical subject of Wisława Szymborska’s poetry. The author presents the former as more influential and more productive for modern, ecopoetic styles, including elements such as: waking the awareness, organic perspective of language, an egalitarian way of life and thinking about relations in categories of space and adhesion rather than domination.

    The closer we get to our times, the more often school reforms take place in different countries. They are an attempt to respond to deep social changes. However, in most cases, these reforms are not veryeffective. The author gives examples of failed Polish educational reforms of the last half-century. It is noted that there was a large gap between the façade proclamations of the benefits that the announcedreforms were supposed to bring and their real effects. Therefore, the author puts forward a thesis that too often reformers play a confidence game and in fact the announced change in education means nochange in practice. Meanwhile, real, profound school reforms are essential, as society and the economy will increasingly need graduates educated to meet the needs of the 21 st century. They are supposed to be people who think critically, are creative, have high communication skills, and are focused on cooperation with others. For the preparation of such graduates to be possible, there needs to be a radical change in the concept of the school and in the way teachers work.

    Tekst stanowi analizę intertekstualnych relacji łączących literaturę z fotografią. W celu ich wydobycia autorka proponuje wykorzystanie pojęć „foto-grafemiczności” tekstu (rozumianej jako zespół cech wskazujących na pokrewieństwo tekstu i fotografii) oraz „foto-grafemu” (będącego ich jednostkową tekstową realizacją), inspirowanych Derridiańskimi kategoriami „gramatologicznymi”. Sposób ich funkcjonowania w tekście poetyckim zaprezentowany zostaje na przykładzie wiersza Las tropikalny Tomasza Różyckiego.
    The paper is an attempt at analyzing the intertextual relations between literature and photography. In order to extract them, the notions of textual “photo-graphemicality” (understood as a number of features indicating similarities between a text and a photograph) and “photo-grapheme’ (their individual textual realization), inspired by Derridean “grammatological” categories. Their functioning in a poetic text is presented using the example of Las tropikalny by Tomasz Różycki.

    The article tackles the issue of the contemporary childhood. The author notes that in search of a happy childhood, the essence of childhood is often lost. Instead of a genuinely careless and happy childhood, the reality created for today’s children is full of appearances. In her discussion of the subject, the author refers to a selected approach to happiness. She also identifies, based on Janusz Czapiński’s proposal, the difference between happiness and feeling happy. She points to the fact that 21st-century life is an endless chase after the future, lacking the opportunity to focus on here and now. Childhood too is treated as a race towards adulthood. In the course of her argument, the author identifies and describes selected styles of creating a happy childhood: an abundant childhood, an active childhood, a childhood in the limelight, a boundless childhood, a childhood among people. Concluding her argument, the author proposes that instead of chasing happiness and creating the appearances of a happy childhood for children, it might be better to simply slow down the pace of life when possible and value the present. After all, “sharing the joy of life is the essence of a satisfying child-parent relationship”. The author also discusses the role of the teacher as a person supporting the parents in their parenting roles.

    The aim of the article was to analyse the Germany’s European policy under the rule of Chancellor A. Merkel in terms of solving emerging crises in the European Union in the 21st century. The author presented a thesis that despite the scale of problems, Chancellor Merkel was successful in finding solutions favourable to Europe. Her methods were often controversial and debatable, but she was able to break the resistance of her opponents. After Brexit, her greatest objectives were to maintain the cohesion of Member States and to guide the EU safely through the COVID-19 epidemic.
    Celem artykułu była analiza polityki europejskiej Niemiec pod rządami kanclerz A. Merkel pod kątem rozwiązywania zaistniałych kryzysów w Unii Europejskiej w XXI wieku. Autor przedstawił tezę, że pomimo skali problemów, kanclerz Merkel na ogół z powodzeniem znajdowała korzystne dla Europy rozwiązania. Jej metody były niejednokrotnie kontrowersyjne i dyskusyjne, ale potrafiła przełamać opór swoich przeciwników. Po Brexicie jej największą zasługą było utrzymanie spoistości państw członkowskich i bezpieczne prowadzenie UE przez epidemię COVID-19.

    Today, EU and China – along the US – undoubtedly play a key role in the international arena. They have established strategic partnership in their bilateral relations and strive to develop cooperation in all areas. Yet, they also dissent on many important issues. In this article, I investigate the premises of EU- China bilateral relations, as well as opportunities and threats to both parties as far as their status on the global stage is concerned. Moreover, I test the thesis I deem controversial, which claims that the 21st century will be Asian century, and de facto the era of China. The literature on contemporary China, on the role it plays in the international arena and on its relations with the EU is abundant. However no definite answer has been given yet as to where China is heading and whether rhe EU will break up in the 21st century. China’s “turn to multilateralism” is questioned, with some researchers claiming that it simply serves to conceal China’s long-term goal, i.e. taking control over the world in the second half of the 21st century.
    Nie ulega wątpliwości, że zarówno Unia Europejska, jak i Chiny odgrywają dziś – obok Stanów Zjednoczonych – główne role na arenie międzynarodowej. We wzajemnych relacjach mają status partnerów strategicznych i starają się rozwijać współpracę we wszystkich dziedzinach, ale też występują między nimi różnice zdań i stanowisk w wielu istotnych sprawach. Na łamach niniejszego artykułu próbuję pokazać przesłanki, szanse i zagrożenia dla obu tych aktorów na arenie międzynarodowej oraz ich wzajemne relacje dziś i w przyszłości. Ponadto próbuję zweryfikować kontrowersyjną – moim zdaniem – hipotezę, lansowaną przez wielu badaczy, a która zakłada, że wiek XXI będzie wiekiem Azji, czyli de facto Chin. Na temat współczesnych Chin i ich roli na arenie międzynarodowej oraz stosunków z Unią Europejską ukazało się już dużo publikacji na całym świecie, ale wciąż nie wiemy dokąd tak naprawdę Chiny zmierzają i czy Unia Europejska nie rozpadnie się w XXI wieku? Istnieją też wątpliwości odnośnie chińskiego „zwrotu w kierunku multilateralizmu”. Zdaniem niektórych badaczy, ma on całkowicie pozorny charakter i służy tylko do kamuflowania dalekosiężnych celów ChRL, czyli przejęcia przez nią kontroli nad światem w drugiej połowie XXI wieku.

    Artykuł przedstawia zjawisko popularności motywów słowiańskich w najnowszej polskiej kulturze popularnej. Jego celem jest pokazanie zmian w podejściu do Słowiańszczyzny po 1989 roku. Punktem wyjścia jest koncepcja krytyki fantazmatycznej Marii Janion i refleksja nad zmianą współcześnie podejścia do tradycji romantycznej, by stworzyć nowe narracje o polskiej tożsamości, w których ważna może być Słowiańszczyzna pojęta jako fantazmat. Dlatego obok form pisarstwa historycznego coraz większą rolę odgrywają różne rodzaje twórczości fantastycznej. Kluczowe są dwa stanowiska: sceptyczne wobec możliwości stworzenia słowiańskiej fantastyki (Andrzeja Sapkowskiego) oraz kreatywne, zafascynowane słowiańskim dziedzictwem (Marii Janion). Artykuł kończy propozycja interpretacji mody na Słowiańszczyznę w odniesieniu do badań z kręgu teorii widmologii.
    Article presents the phenomenon of the popularity of Slavic motifs in the latest Polish popular culture. Its aim is to show the changes in the approach to Slavism after 1989. The starting point is the concept of phantasmatic criticism by Maria Janion and a reflection on the contemporary change in the approach to the Romantic tradition in order to create new narratives about Polish identity, in which Slavism is understood as a phantasm which may be important. Therefore, in addition to the forms of historical writing, various types of fantasy work play an increasingly important role. Two positions are crucial: skeptical about the possibility of creating Slavic fantasy (Andrzej Sapkowski) and creative, inspired by Slavic heritage (Maria Janion). The article ends with a proposal to interpret the fashion for the Slavs in relation to research in the field of spectral theory.

Jego celem jest prześledzenie wieloaspektowości wykorzystywanych przez twórców relacji transtekstualnych w celu zrealizowania reprezentatywnego dla kultury konwergencji wysokojakościowego tekstu kultury popularnej i ukazanie wynikających z tego konotacji pojęć ‘polski’ i ‘słowiański’.
    This article is a case study presenting an analysis and interpretation of the short film Operation Basilisk, produced as part of the ‘Polish Legends’ project, representing the convention of New Adventure Cinema. Its aim is to trace the multifaceted nature of the transtextual relations used by the filmmakers in order to realize a high quality popular culture text representative of convergence culture and to show the resulting connotations of the terms ‘Polish’ and ‘Slavic’.

    Artykuł prezentuje wypowiedzi czeskich publicystystów, socjologów i kulturoznawców na temat własnej tożsamości jednostkowej i zbiorowej przełomu XX i XXI wieku oraz ich uwagi o wzajemnej ocenie dwóch tożsamości narodowych: czeskiej i polskiej, dokonywanej często za pomocą stereotypów. Przypomina różne czeskie i obce interptretacje dwóch postaci: historycznej Jana Husa i fikcyjnej, literackiej Josefa Švejka jako symboli (ikon) dwojakiej czeskości.
    The article presents speeches of Czech publicists, sociologists and culture studies specialists on the Czech social and individual identity at the turn of the 21st century and their observations on two national identities, Czech and Polish, frequently based on stereotypes. It provides different Czech and foreign interpretations of two protagonists: the historical, Jan Hus, and the fictional and literary, Josef Švejk as symbols (icons) of the dual Czechhood.
